Rita Moreno is an absolute living legend who is celebrating her 93rd birthday and about eight decades in Hollywood. She came to New York with her mom from Puerto Rico when she was five years old. She got started in dance classes at age nine and started her career in the entertainment industry quickly thereafter. She's been in so many classic movies, like The King and I, Singin' in the Rain, and West Side Story. She was the first Latina to win an Oscar. She became the second woman and third person to win an EGOT. A year later, she won a second Emmy for her work on The Rockford Files. Rita has done countless guest appearances, was a lead in a bunch of TV shows, but what our Millennial hearts will care about the most is that she provided the voice of the title character in the PBS Series, Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?. A tribute Barbie of her was just released based on her look that she wore when she won an Oscar in 1962.To this day, she is one of the busiest stars in show business. Gospel's story begins with The Great Migration, when millions of African Americans from the rural Southern United States moved to urban areas in the North, Midwest, and West beginning in the early 20th century. But as this new style arrived on the scene, it wasn't immediately accepted, because until this new fusion of music and message came along, most preachers and church leaders believed you didn't SING gospel — you PREACHED it. We learn a bit about Gospel's story from Stacey L. Holman, Series Producer and Director of the new 4-part series on PBS called Gospel.

If I had a dollar (or a euro) for everyone who's ever told me they want to host a travel show, I would've recorded this episode of Camera Ready & Abel from my villa in Italy instead of my office in Brooklyn. My guest for this episode, Kathy McCabe, is here to share how she did something truly remarkable, how she made her dream a reality and turned her passion for Italy into the Dream of Italy newsletter, magazine, podcast and PBS Series distributed to 97% of the United States (and the number one watched program of any genre distributed by American Public Television on Amazon Prime.) Kathy is a beautiful example of the transformational power of traveling, following your dream and thriving in life. Key takeaways Build a community, not an audience. Gather emails and communicate directly with your audience. Own your content as much as you can Show up consistently Be tenacious and committed - and believe that it's possible Your reputation and your track record matter a lot - especially in fund-raising Visit Dream of Italy and listen to the Dream of Italy Podcast (which The New York Times recommends as one of “13 podcasts for wandering souls.”) Connect with Kathy on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

Mona Haydar and her husband Sebastian Robins gained international attention for their “Ask a Muslim” project— a booth offering free donuts in exchange for dialogue in the wake of the Paris and San Bernardino extremist attacks. Not long after, Mona's hip-hop anthem, “Hijabi (Wrap My Hijab),” gained more than 8 million views on YouTube, and Billboard named it one of the “Best Protest Songs” of the year. Now the couple star in the new PBS series, The Great Muslim American Road Trip, in which they explore the Muslim experience in America on a 2,500-mile drive from Chicago to Los Angeles. Although they are practicing Muslims (Sebastian converted after meeting Mona), the couple, like most Americans, are unfamiliar with Islam's deeps roots in America. The road trip enables them to experience the breathtaking panoramas and iconic roadside attractions that have made Route 66 famous, and learn more about the history of their faith and what it means to be Muslim in America today.

Inga Witscher is fourth-generation farmer who is also the host of the PBS show, “Around the Farm Table.” This is a show that introduces you to the people who are growing your food. Inga then takes it back to her farm kitchen and show you how to prepare these farm fresh ingredients for your family. Here's the twist in all of this -- she didn't always want to be a farmer. In this conversation, she shares what brought her back to the farm and inspired her to launch the PBS series that brings consumers, just like you, a little closer to where all of those items you bring into your home every day originated. She swaps farm life stories with Inside the Bullseye's host, Amy Pflugshaupt, she gives you a sneak peek of Season 8 of “Around the Farm Table,” and shares a great story about how the hardest part of farming is getting up early to “put the makeup on her Jersey cows' eyes.” (It's a great laugh you wont want to miss). Inga was recently awarded the 2021 Storyteller Award from Slow Food USA. Slow Food USA's vision is to create a world where all people can enjoy food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it and good for the planet. This summer, Arkansas PBS will expand its original content to help combat summer learning loss after a year of education disruptions from COVID-19. The new, six-week series, ' Rise and Shine ,' is partnership with Arkansas teachers of the year and the Arkanasas Department of Education and airs weekdays from 8 - 11:30 a.m. beginning July 6.
Beginning tomorrow, PBS will premiere the first of a four-part series, co-hosted by Steven Johnson titled Extra Life: A Short History of Living Longer . The series and the companion book are set in the context of today’s COVID-19 crisis and explores the lessons learned from previous global pandemics and reveals how a public health revolution was launched. Johnson looks at the milestones of this progress from the discoveries of vaccines and antibiotics, to the introduction of things that are now commonplace. Johnson also turns his keen analytical eye to the present: Do we risk regressing in life expectancy as our public health systems face unprecedented challenges such as the one we’re living through? Are we overlooking any current technologies or field of research that will enable us to live even longer than we do now?
Today we talk to Kate Sullivan. She is the host of the PBS Series, To Dine For ––now in its third season. An accomplished television reporter, she crafted a fantasy job for herself – having a meal and a one-on-one conversation with visionaries at their favorite hometown restaurants. Howard Schultz of Starbucks, Norman Lear, Mark Cuban––and someone we all revere, chef Jose Andrés. In this episode we’ll eavesdrop on Kate’s own dinner with Andres in Barcelona – and how her hunch that bonding over a meal would make for great TV storytelling.Photo Courtesy of Kate Sullivan.Let's Talk About Food is powered by Simplecast.
Given that some of the most influential narratives and Torah legislation are but a few verses long, why is so much of the book of Exodus chapters and chapters of detailed, repetitive descriptions of the instructions and building of the Tabernacle (Mishkan), the priestly uniforms, the utensils, the hundreds of curtain rods and hooks? I answer this question through my reflecting on the observations of Henry Louis Gates in his PBS Series (during Black History month) on the history of the Black Church in America.
Kenny and Mike discuss the upcoming PBS Series, The Black Church: This is Our Story, This is Our Song with series director and producer Stacey Holman. The Black Church premieres February 16 and 17 at 9pm ET on PBS. Hosted and produced by Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., The Black Church series examines the 400 year history of the Black Church and it's place at the heart of black history and culture in America. Dr Gates travels throughout the country interviewing church leaders, theologians, historians, and celebrities who have been inspired and nurtured by the Black Church. Contributors include Rev. Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr. Rev William Barber, Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Cornel West, Oprah Winfrey, Yolanda Adams, Jennifer Hudson, and John Legend. Through 400 years of slavery, persecution, and prejudice the Church has served as the hub where African Americans could not only be reminded of their place as beloved children of God, they also experienced a more realized Kingdom of God through powerful preaching, singing, and community. Such experience of God and God's Kingdom offered hope, promise, and assurance of rising beyond the struggles imparted by racism and hate. The Black Church in America also served as the organizing force behind protests for civil rights, education programs, employment programs and other social initiatives. The Black Church also served as a place where some of the greatest singers and musicians were nurtured and developed their talents that would have a most profound impact on American culture. During today’s conversation with Reagan Foundation and Institute Executive Director John Heubusch, Judge Ginsburg discusses his new book, Voices of our Republic, is a companion piece to his 3-part 2020 PBS Series, A more or less perfect union, which he also talks about with us today. Voices of Our Republic features thoughts about the Constitution from personalities, dignitaries, and everyday heroes, who help answer the question of why the Constitution is so important and how it can be applied to political discourse today. Each person emphasizes a different part of the Constitution―from the Bill of Rights to the 19th Amendment and beyond―and why those particular passages are important, serving as a key resource for those looking to better appreciate the foundation of American government and to increase our understanding of its application during its initial creation and still today. Let’s listen.

The PBS Series that Melissa's been binge watching while staying-at-home. POLDARK In this episode we hear a bit more about what makes Melissa tick. In an event that seems like a lifetime ago, Melissa experienced a major setback. While none of us enjoys making a mistake, Melissa shares how making a “BIG MISTAKE” early in life crushed her confidence. Having the courage to ever step out again, working through the mess of the aftermath of her setback, and quieting the voice that wants to remind her of the failure have all been a part of the journey. Part of being human is making mistakes - it takes courage to accept this truth. Connect with Melissa : melissacdyer.com IG @melissacdyer_
