Advances in technology and genetics have enriched our insight, bridging neurology and psychiatry, and emphasising the uniqueness of thought and behaviour. As neuroscience shapes medicine, education and commerce, it raises ethical and societal questions. Understanding the brain's intricacies leads us to consider free will, accountability, and the persistent puzzle of cause and effect, reminding us knowledge remains provisional and growing. For those with faith, these developments inspire humility and awe, acknowledging human knowledge as both privilege and duty.Dr Mathew Santhosh Thomas is an Internal Medicine specialist with experience in academic and rural missional healthcare settings. Recorded on 20 November 2025 for ICMDA Webinars.Dr Peter Saunders chairs a webinar with John DicksonIs religion a pernicious force in the world? Does it poison everything? Would we be better off without religion in general and Christianity in particular? Many think so.But the critics are only partly right: this is not what Christianity was at its foundation or on its best days. Jesus of Nazareth gave the world a beautiful melody - of charity, humility, and human dignity - and while many of its followers have been tone-deaf, many others have sung the tune and transformed the world.Dickson provides an honest account of the mixed history of Christianity and asks skeptics to listen again to the melody of Christ, despite the discord produced by too many unbelievers. He also asks Christians to reflect soberly on their own participation in the tragic inconsistencies of Christendom and pleads with them to live in tune with their Maestro.John started out as a professional singer-songwriter, he now works as an author, speaker, historian, and media presenter. John hosts the Undeceptions podcast and has hosted four television documentaries. The most recent documentary The First Hymn: Resurrecting a song buried for millennia, was released in April 2025.John has published over 20 books, including Bullies and Saints: An Honest look at the Good and Evil of Christian History (2021). He has held a variety of teaching and research positions before becoming the Jean Kvamme Distinguished Professor of Biblical Studies and Public Christianity at Wheaton College in Illinois in 2022. That may be why you chose a healthcare career in the first place. But in the long run, for many of us, that's not enough. During our training we learn the scientific story of health, sickness and healing. It's a powerful story that is the basis for our work. Scripture also tells a powerful story about health, sickness and healing.  These two narratives are actually one unified account of God's creative and redemptive work in human lives. Living in that unified story while we're at work renews our purpose, mitigates our compassion fatigue and brings us satisfaction. Recorded on 31 July 2025 for ICMDA Webinars.Dr Peter Saunders chairs a webinar with Dr James MagaraChristian character is the true mark of a believer - even more so for medical professionals whose work touches lives deeply. It reflects our identity in Christ and sustains integrity in high-pressure environments. From the beginning, God intended that image and likeness come before dominion; so too, in medicine, competence must be clothed in compassion, humility, and truth. Christian character shapes how we lead, serve, and respond - especially when no one is watching. It is the foundation for trust, resilience, and ethical practice. As Christian medics, our greatest testimony is more than skill, it is Christlike character in every patient interaction and decision we make.Dr James Magara is a dental surgeon and strategic leader with a BDS from Makerere University and an MSc in Dental Prosthetics from the University of Bristol (UK). He leads Jubilee Dental, a multi-location practice with over 30 years of service, and serves as Dean of the Uganda Christian University School of Dentistry.A futurist and leadership trainer, he holds a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership from Regent University and has spoken at leadership forums across three continents. Dr. Magara chairs the Uganda Heart Institute Board and CASTLE Think Tank and is committed to raising healthcare and leadership standards across Africa. To listen live to future ICMDA webinars visit https://icmda.net/resources/webinars/

Life coaching, like athletic coaching, helps a person or group improve in an area of interest or concern. It is based on the fact that the person or group knows themselves, their situation, and their options best. The life coach helps them explore actions to take to deal with the situation.Individual and life coaching is increasingly being used by healthcare professionals and organizations to promote healthcare professional wellness, improve processes, and decrease the likelihood of burnout. ICMDA is exploring making life coaching available to Christian healthcare professionals and organizations who desire it.Sharon A. (“Shari”) Falkenheimer, M.D., M.P.H., M.A. (Bioethics), PhD is board certified in Aerospace Medicine. She has over 40 years of experience in a variety of roles including teaching, applied research, clinical medicine, medical leadership and planning. Recorded on 19 June 2025 for ICMDA Webinars.Dr Peter Saunders chairs a webinar with Prof Christoffer Grundmann This webinar sketches the history of Christian medical missions from Jesus' healing ministry to present day Christian medical services. First it will touch upon the beginnings of institutional care for the sick in the 4th century up until the middle of the 19th century, a time when not much could be done except providing compassionate care. The second section will focus on the emergence of Christian medical missions as an epiphenomenon of the development of scientific medicine in the 19th century, while the third addresses the transformations of such work necessitated by changes in the overall framework during the 20th century, showing that such ministry represents a vital element in the proclamation of the gospel since it witnesses to the corporeality of salvation in Christ.Christoffer-Hinrich Grundmann, (MTh, Dr. theol., Dr. theol. habil.) is Emeritus Eckrich University Professor in Religion and the Healing Arts of Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, IN, USA. Before he worked as Lutheran Pastor in Caracas, Venezuela, taught at the Tamilnadu Theological Seminary Arasaradi, Madurai, India, after which he joined the German Institute for Medical Missions at Tübingen, Germany, as theological consultant and hospital chaplain and briefly at the center for healthcare ethics at Hannover, Germany. Sent to heal! Emergence and Development of Medical Mission (2005) is one of the several books he authored besides numerous articles on topics of medical missions, health and healing, and on inter-religious dialogue.
