Ever since I was a little kid, I've loved even-numbered years — because I absolutely love the Olympics. They combine my two truest boyhood passions: sports and America.I was a sports-obsessed little Pittsburgh kid. When I was nine, I won a contest at a local video rental store ahead of Super Bowl XXX by correctly identifying the first points the Steelers ever scored in a Super Bowl as a safety. Before I even entered junior high, I'd been to several dozen Penn State football games with my dad, and probably about a dozen wrestling meets. I can still name the four Pittsburgh Penguins who won gold medals with the Czech Republic at the 1998 Nagano Olympics (Jaromir Jagr, Martin Straka, Jiri Slegr, and Robert Lang) as well as each of their Pittsburgh jersey numbers (68, 82, 71, 20). I was star-struck when I got to be a ball boy for a Team USA soccer game in Hershey, PA, and actually got to feed Mia Hamm the ball for a throw-in....Ad-free podcasts are here!To listen to this podcast ad-free, and to enjoy our subscriber only premium content, go to ReadTangle.com to sign up!You can subscribe to Tangle by clicking here or drop something in our tip jar by clicking here. Tyler Kennedy didn't think Toews and Makar played great for the Canadiens in the Gold Medal Game. How close was Sidney Crosby to playing? Bob wants to do what it takes for Crosby and Malkin to go back to the postseason.
Tyler Kennedy thinks the Penguins should give Avery Hayes a chance on the top line. He wouldn't mess with any other lines. What is Connor McDavid's legacy?
Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson wonder if Evgeni Malkin can go back to the "good old days" and carry the Penguins while Sidney Crosby is out with injury. Also, should the Pens consider adding another center to bolster line depth?
The Penguins get back to it tonight in their first game without Sidney Crosby following his injury in the Olympics. They are in a playoff spot and have been one of the best stories in the NHL. But the guys have a big question – why is nobody going to the games? Is it more complex than the ticket price, concessions, travel to the game, etc. or is it really that simple?

After years and years of trade rumors, it finally happened. Sam Girard has been traded by the Avalanche, as they send him and a 2028 2nd round pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Brett Kulak. How does Kulak fit with the Avalanche, and is this a good value trade for the Avalanche to have made? With the salary cap space opened up, what other trade avenues does this open up? Is Konnor Griffin going to be on the Major League roster? Griffin mashed two home runs against the Red Sox in spring training. The Penguins placed Sidney Crosby on injured reserve with a lower body injury and is expected to miss a minimum of four weeks. The NHL trade deadline is March 6th and Joe thinks the Pens may stand pat.
Trading Stuart Skinner and playing Sergei Murashov could be the best thing for the Pens. The Penguins' season may have been ruined by the Olympics. Joe and Bob are concerned about Paul Skenes pitching in the World Baseball Classic.
Antonio is a hockey player who wrote a great story on USA Hockey. He shares the highs and lows of Sid's Golden Goal and the new jubilation of Jack Hughes scoring the Golden Goal. "The Football Town" documentary releases on Saturday and Antonio saw Bob at a screening!
Sid said he didn't have a problem with the hit that Radko Gudas made on him when he was injured. Sid said it was just an unfortunate thing. Crosby is confident the Penguins can still make the playoffs but this stretch is very difficult.
Sidney Crosby is going to miss, at minimum, the next four weeks. Jay thinks it's a big loss and the whole team needs to come together to overcome not having Sid in the lineup. Dan Muse has done a good job getting the best out of players, and this will be a real test. Jay thinks Evgeni Malkin has been on a mission to be great, but it's unrealistic that Malkin can carry the Penguins.
Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson react to the most recent trade the Penguins made from Tuesday.
The big breaking news of the day is Sidney Crosby being out for ‘at least' 4 weeks after the lower-body injury suffered last week in the Olympics. Does this ruin the Penguins' season? Historically, Evgeni Malkin has stepped up big when Crosby has been absent, but can he do that at 39? One of our biggest fans, and a massive Penguins fan, told us he was ‘spiraling' with this news. For as fun as this season has been and as fun as the US winning a gold medal was – was it all worth it? The guys don't think we should just accept the fact that the Olympics could very well cost the Penguins a playoff spot.
Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. TK reacted to the news of Sidney Crosby being out for ‘at least' a month as the Penguins pursue a playoff spot. Tyler expects Evgeni Malkin to step up, even at 39-years-old, like he has done in the past without Sid. He thinks Kyle Dubas will be aggressive as the trade deadline approaches. Dubas made another trade TK liked yesterday, moving on from one defenseman to acquire another. Tyler said it's very good that Geno got this time off because he's at the age where that is necessary in the middle of the season. Tyler admitted he would give Jack Hughes a standing ovation tomorrow night if he was at the game. TK told us a wild story about an injury he suffered off-the-ice during his career that he had to slyly lie about.

Olympic Hangover 02/23/26 Sidney Crosby played well in the Milan Cortina Olympic prelims, then sustained a serious lower body injury in Team Canada's quarterfinal game against Czechia. Team USA ultimately won gold in dramatic OT fashion, with NJD's Jack Hughes netting the deciding tally. The Penguins are back in action on home ice, this Thursday against Hughes's NHL squad, followed by a Saturday visit to MSG and the reigning gold medal-winning HC, former PIT bench boss Mike Sullivan. What was the coolest part of Team USA winning the gold medal for the first time since 1980s? Connor Hellebuyck should have won the MVP. Will the Olympics have an impact on USA hockey??
Bubba Chandler had a good first inning, but walked in one run on four pitches against the Yankees. Should the Penguins trade Stuart Skinner? What are the greatest moments in American sports history?
Pittsburgh Penguins analyst Tyler Kennedy joins us. TK, being Canadian, rooted for Canada and thought it was an incredible game. Were you happy with 3-on-3 hockey? Canada may have played better, but the USA stole the game with Connor Hellebuyck.
The NBC broadcast of the Olympics was great. Kenny Albert did a great job calling the game. It was great to see Eddie Olczyk in the booth after his battle with cancer and he was very objective. Kenny Albert has a feel for the moment. Connor Hellebuyck won the game for Team USA, supported by strong penalty killing.
What was Sidney Crosby's motivation and thought process as he was ruled out for Team Canada? Sid made a very selfless decision that he wouldn't be able to help the team due to his injury. Do you like the 3-on-3 overtime?
Team USA got dominated at times by Team Canada, but Connor Hellebuyck was great. That was one of the greatest goalie performances we've ever seen. We hear from callers on Team USA and Sidney Crosby's injury.
This injury report is brought to you by Shenderovich, Shenderovich & Fishman.
Tyler Kennedy joins the show! Did he celebrate as a US Citizen or a Canadian Citizen? When Jack Hughes scored, he said he was gutted but the rest of the house was celebratory. Tyler says that if Crosby plays, the Canadians would have won. TK says this was probably Crosby's last chance to play in the Olympics.

Do you feel bad for Sidney Crosby? Is Crosby going to play in the 2030 Olympics? If this was his last chance, he could not win Gold. Poni says that he feels bad for Sid because he couldn't finish. I do not feel bad for him. This was a prime opportunity for the younger generation to get the job done while Crosby has already been there and done that. Mullsy agrees with Poni. Daryl, who wanted Sid to break his leg a week ago, calls in. He says he cares about Sid as a Penguin.Â

The Donny Football Debrief: The NHL is returning to the All Star Game next year in what will probably be the worst event of all time. Could the Cowboys franchise tag George Pickens?
Crosby said that Team Canada "deserved better." Nathan MacKinnon said that Canada was the better team. All that matters is the scoreboard and it showed that Team USA won 2-1. Poni says that he thinks some players value the process more than the results. The guys say that MacKinnon should be more upset about missing an open net than thinking they deserved better.
