Bussin' With The Boys
Tight End Pod (with TJ Hockenson & George Kittle)

Bussin' With The Boys

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 3, 2021 84:11

Recorded: February 26, 2021 | Tight End pod for the boys? Absolutely. TJ Hockenson (TE for the Detroit Lions) makes his bus debut and George Kittle (TE for the San Francisco 49ers) returns to keep Taylor's seat warm. Lock in, it's a banger. The boys are all fresh off a workout when they get to the bus, so the first topic of conversation is obviously pre-workout (which they peer-pressured Will into taking in a specifically savage way). Next up, they dive into college ball talk when George and TJ, who played together at Iowa, claim that Iowa has officially become Tight End U. Then, TJ tells the boys what it's like to be a 1st Round draft pick, George calls him out on his fashion choices, and they all talk about blocking people on Twitter. Finally, TJ shares why he and NFL commish, Roger Goodell, are such good friends (plus a little surprise that indicates Goodell may actually be for the boys), what it was like playing with Matthew Stafford, and what's so exciting about Lions' new head coach, Dan Campbell (besides that electric press conference, obviously). Tight ends need appreciation. This pod is for them. Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon presents singer Nick Reese of Joyous Wolf (mercifully not of 'Global Death' or 'Intense Resentment' - we'll explain that later in the chat) Press release: Joyous Wolf is an American Rock Band formed in Orange County, California, in 2014. With humble beginnings, playing any venue that would have them, Joyous Wolf - Nick Reese (vocals), Blake Allard (guitar), Greg Braccio (bass), Robert Sodaro (drums) - have created their own hybrid of hard driving rock & roll, soul, blues, and alternative music. Heavily influenced by artists spanning not only various genres, but literally decades of music, their electric live performances would take them from the clubs of the Sunset Strip to international tours, earning them a recording deal with Roadrunner Records in 2018. The quartet has shown to be a force both on and off stage, having released their critically acclaimed debut EP “Place In Time” on Roadrunner in 2019, which led to subsequent tours supporting rock icons such as Slash, and Deep Purple. Their new, highly anticipated single, “Odyssey”, was released on June 19th on Roadrunner.   Support ROCK TALK WITH MITCH LAFON with a donation here: www.paylpal.me/MitchLafon   And follow on Twitter: @mitchlafon (Recorded February 2021) Help support the show. Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon presents TEN YEARS AFTER - Ric Lee. We discuss the band's upcoming deluxe reissue, the band's storied career, working with Alvin Lee, the greatest venues to play, his memoir 'From Headstocks To Woodstock' and much more.   PRESS RELEASE:   FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TEN YEARS AFTER TO RELEASE “A STING IN THE TALE” (DELUXE EDITION) THROUGH DEKO ENTERTAINMENT. THIS RELEASE COMES WITH 4 LIVE BONUS TRACKS INCLUDING THEIR HIT SONG “I’D LOVE TO CHANGE THE WORLD”. Ten Years After are best known for their Platinum selling album “A Space in Time” which featured the Top 40 hit "I'd Love to Change the World", and their prodigious performance appearance at the Woodstock Festival in upstate New York, August 1969. Their rendition of "I'm Going Home" was featured in both the subsequent film and soundtrack album and catapulted them to star status. Original members Ric Lee and Chick Churchill have continued this legacy and are now rounded out by Guitarist/Vocalist Marcus Bonfanti and Bass Icon Colin Hodgkinson. “A Sting in the Tale” was engineered and produced by Bonfanti at his ‘Cricklewood Green’ Studios in Cricklewood, North London and mixed by acclaimed Canadian mix engineer Doug Organ in Edmonton Canada. The 4 bonus live tracks, including “I’d Love To Change The World” were recorded during a subsequent tour in Erfurt, Germany. As Drummer Ric Lee states, “The creative process of the studio album was a joy. Writing and recording together, being able to construct songs that reflect the personalities, memories and experiences of each of the members was extremely satisfying. We’re very happy that Deko suggested adding four ‘live’ bonus tracks to make this the DeLuxe Edition. The title “A Sting In The Tale” reflects the same sentiment Ric & Chick wished to convey in the 2015 live album “The Name Remains The Same”. Through the new lineup the music continues to evolve and grow fifty years on. The sound of the band will always be heavily rooted in the way they paved the way during the late sixties and early seventies and will never forget its incredible heritage. This new record is the ‘Sting’ in the continuing Tale of Ten Years After. Deko Entertainment Bruce Pucciarello on Ten Years After joining the Deko family, “Their story is legend and working with these guys at DEKO has been a privilege. The album, classic organic contemporary, forward, it just rocks. You put it on…you can’t just listen once.” The subject material on the album ranges from childhood memories of growing up in post war Britain, songs of love lost to the rock n roll lifestyle as well as sincere odes to a life well lived. They pay homage to the steam train drivers of the past and guitar heroes of the future as well as other interesting characters the band have encountered since they embarked on this journey over fifty years ago.  View video for Suranne Suranne here: https://tinyurl.com/yykhpd9f There are limited edition bundles (while supplies last), which can be ordered via: https://tinyurl.com/yyu3la2y Product Includes: - One (1) TEN YEARS AFTER - “A Sting in the Tale (Deluxe Edition)” CD - One (1) TEN YEARS AFTER Tee - One (1) TEN YEARS AFTER Tote Bag - One (1) TEN YEARS AFTER Autographed Photo “A Sting in the Tale” (Deluxe Edition) Tracklist: 1. It marked the fifth No. 1 single of the band's career and was heralded by Paper, Loudwire, CNN, Forbes, and more. The band also has the incredible and impressive distinction of being the first female-fronted band to have back-to-back No. 1 singles at the active rock format and the first female-fronted act to have five No. 1 singles on the Billboard chart. Leading into the album release, The Pretty Reckless released stunning music videos for standout tracks "And So It Went" and "25." After countless gigs, the band returned with Going To Hell in 2014. Not only did the record crash the Top 5 of the Billboard Top 200, but it also ignited three #1 hits — the Platinum-certified "Heaven Knows" (the biggest rock song of 2014), "Fucked Up World," and "Follow Me Down" — a feat that had not been accomplished by a female-fronted group since The Pretenders in 1984. Meanwhile, their third offering, Who You Selling For, saw them return to #1 on the Mainstream Rock Songs Chart with "Take Me Down," which cemented them as "the first band to send its first four singles to #1 on the chart," according to Billboard. Praise followed from Vogue, Nylon, and more as the quartet lit up television shows such as Letterman and Conan. With over half-a-billion streams, they headlined countless sold out shows and toured with Guns N' Roses, Soundgarden, and many other heavy hitters. The title track of their fourth album Death By Rock And Roll hit No. 1 on the rock charts and stayed there for multiple weeks. It marked the fifth No. 1 single of the band's career. Recorded: February 15, 2021 Nate Bargatze is one funny MFer. The boy hopped on the bus to catch up with Comp & The Crew, and he did not disappoint. A Nashville native with a new Netflix special coming out March 18 called, "The Greatest Average American," Nate jumps right into things by talking about his own podcasting experience, why consistency is huge, and the process of "making it" in football vs comedy. Next, Nate addresses how difficult the road is for a comic trying to make it, Will gives some insight into why he has always focused on creating business ventures outside of football, and Nate reveals who he thinks had the most impressive rise to fame of any comedian. After that, Will and Nate share how valuable it is to have mentors, the importance of setting attainable goals, and why accountability is crucial. At this point, Nate starts whipping out stories from his comedy journey that leave everybody on the bus rolling, he opens up about how he knew he wanted to be a comedian, and he explains the path his life took to go from a rookie stand-up to a legit world-renowned talent. Then, we hear about Nate's clown father (no, really, his dad was a clown AND a magician), performing in front of tiny crowds, doing shows to audiences who don't speak English, and the worst performance he's ever had. This one's packed with laughs, so beware if you're taking this one to the gym with you. The new album, "Relentless" is produced by Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Archon Angel, Timo Tolkii's Avalon) and will be released on April 9, 2021. Today, fans can get their first taste of the album with the release of the single 'Strong Pressure'. Listen HERE: https://youtu.be/Eax-jFaAkoA Pre-order/save "Relentless" on CD, Limited Edition Green Vinyl, and/or Digital formats HERE: https://orcd.co/sweetoblivion "Relentless" is the hotly anticipated sophomore album from the new metal project Sweet Oblivion, which showcases former Queensrÿche vocalist Geoff Tate. Conceived, overseen, and A&R'ed by Serafino Perugino, President and A&R director of Frontiers Records, the project sees Tate returning to a musical style he is revered for. The self-titled debut album caused quite a stir in the international hard rock and metal scene since it brought Tate back to a musical landscape akin to the sound of the stone cold classic metal albums he released with Queensrÿche during the ‘80s. But what made the album work so well was that instead of being a simple throwback, other different musical influences were thrown into the mix, allowing fans to hear Tate in a simultaneously familiar and new musical setting. While the production and main songwriting on the previous record were handled by Simone Mularoni of DGM, this time the production was instead handled by his fellow Italian metal maestro Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Timo Tolkki's Avalon, Archon Angel). Not only does Aldo have producution and songwriting credits on the album, he also features on guitar. Other musicians appearing on the album include Michele Sanna on drums, Luigi Andreone on bass, and Antonio Agate on keyboards. This time around, Tate is more involved in the songwriting and asked Aldo to draft a very special song for him, which he would ultimately sing in Italian. The song, 'Aria', also features guitars from Walter Cianciusi and Dario Parente, who are now in the Operation: Mindcrime live band with Tate. "I have been spending more and more time in Italy over the last few years and the people and culture have captured my heart. I truly enjoyed working with my Italian counterparts to create this classic metal album," says Tate. Musically, this album showcases the great songwriting and performing talents of Tate, Lonobile and his cast of musicians and also marks a very welcomed return for Tate to a style that he made famous along with his former band. Fans of Tate’s work in Queensryche’s early days and of the previous Sweet Oblivion record will not want to miss this!
