Dive deep into this MAJOR PASSAGE! What about "submission" in Ephesians 5:22-24? Paul teaches reciprocating submission among Spirit-filled believers (compare 5:18b-21, and 5:33). What about "love"? Paul teaches that even mutual up-building must have LOVE as a major component. Just "as Christ" loved in 5:23b, 25b and throughout this passage, so too for the partners in the Christian marriage of 5:33. What about "head"? Paul is not not referring to authority or source. He is talking about the GREAT MYSTERY of 5:31 and 32 - the unity of believers and Christ in one joint-body.Go deeper? Read Beyond Eden, Ephesians 5:15-6:9 by Bruce C. E. In Leaders Getting Coffee episode 35, our guest is Olympic High Jump champion, Hamish Kerr. He describes himself as too tall for a runner. So it was just as well that a young Hamish Kerr scuttled down to the High Jump enclosure after his 800 metre race ended. There he found a natural ability and reduced competition; a combination that saw him develop a passion for this highly technical event at a remarkably young age. Hamish Kerr’s is the classic Kiwi story. After winning the NZ Secondary Schools title for Auckland Grammar School, he headed off to Massey University and forgot about athletics for a couple of years. But the passion still burned, and an opportunity to attend the World University Games rekindled a love affair with the sport through which he would become a world an Olympic champion. With his degree completed, he moved to Christchurch to follow the coaching and worked part time in a hardware store while he worked on the physical and mental techniques that would make him successful. On the Leaders Getting Coffee podcast, Bruce Cotterill talks to Hamish about his gradual journey to the top of the Olympic podium, a journey that now includes Commonwealth Games and World Indoor titles alongside his Olympic triumph. And he takes us step by step through that agonising Olympic qualifying session which saw him almost leave the competition prematurely, and a finals day filled with the drama that can only be delivered by an energy sapping one on one jump off for the gold medal. And he’s not finished yet. Hamish Kerr has an aspirational message for our future leaders and an agenda that will see him attempt to defend his title in Los Angeles in 2028.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In today's Q&A show, we have an interesting mix between lengthy emails and quick quips on YouTube—and lots of sprinting commentary in this episode! Other topics include: Is building an aerobic base necessary if you have minimal training time? How often should I sprint? Can AirDyne sprints replace running? How much rest should I take when sprinting? And when it comes to eating breakfast: yes or no? And should dogs eat a carnivore diet? What about Omega-3 salmon: yes or no? I also answer comments on restrictive dieting, respond to feedback from an appreciative listener about a John Gray show, and talk about being intuitive to avoid overtraining. Thanks for your interest and please participate in the conversation by emailing podcast@bradventures.com or commenting on my YouTube videos!   TIMESTAMPS: Jim asks about the conflicting advice from people about slowing down to establish your aerobic base. If you don't have time to train you still must build your aerobic base. If you can't carry on a conversation, you are breathing too hard. [01:53] The human is only capable of maximum explosive energy for only up to around seven seconds. [13:12] Luke wants to know how often he should be sprinting in order to avoid injury. This really has to do with how much rest you take. [19:27] Zanado asks about riding the Airdyne bike as he tries to keep training after a bad accident. [23:43] Michael is asking to clarify how much rest should be between sprints. When you want to sprint, keep it between 10 and 20 seconds. [26:54] Donna from Kona asks “Breakfast or no breakfast?” One has to be careful adding fasting, which is stressful in itself, to one's very stress everyday life. [29:49] Bacon is not one of the nutritious meats that you need in your diet. Chicken and pork have a very low score in comparison to cattle raised in the open. [36:09] Sophia wonders if the Airdyne bike is a good substitute for sprinting since she pulled her hamstring. [40:12] Grandma Patriot wants to know the best way to get her puppy started on a carnivore diet.  [43:58] Regina asks “Can sprinting work for people with exercise intolerance where they crash after walking?” [49:42] Dee Bradford commented on Brad's video where he was talking about hematocrit. A very high hematocrit is a concern. [52:16] Angela was concerned about Brad's mention of eating wild caught salmon.  What about the Omega 3s and Omega 6s? [53:23] Another YouTube comment points out that if our ancestors had more food, they probably would have lived longer.  [56:47] Ian writes in the whole point of working out is to cause stress spikes to your system. [59:18] Quill5 heard the show about relationships wisdom from Dr. John Gray, and Quill learned that if they are about to get angry, they just hold on and think about it and relax and then they're able to respond instead of react. [59:47] Chad comments that it is easy to get carried away with strategies that could be characterized as biohacking. [01:00:22] James is commenting on overtraining.  When he realizes that he has been overtraining, he loses his motivation to get out there and exercise. However, what you're about to hear in this episode is an insight into the mind of the Olympic champion and you'll be amazed at how close he came to bowing out in the Qualifiers which in his mind would have meant retirement. The pressure that come on one single jump is insane and when you need to be relaxed and in flow when jumping how you handle that pressure is the difference. Some other cool parts of this episode that should out for me was..Growing up playing lot's of sports, playing on the wing in rugbyHow at the age of 11 he was arguably faster than Rieko IoaneHis journey into High Jump and why he quit after schoolAn insight in to the training schedule of an individual athleteHow important your mindset in as a world class athleteWhy he wasn't keen to settle on the split gold medalWhat made him take off to the middle of the Javelin field once he had won the goldAnd heaps more!As you'll hear Hamish is a very smart, open and honest man who gives so much gold (excuse the pun) in this episode. If at first you don't succeed, try again.  A common sentiment, but particularly relevant for athletes, and one Hamish Kerr is familiar with.  The Olympic high jump gold medallist told Mike Hosking that his first attempt at the Fosbury flop left him with a bloody nose, as he hit his nose against his knee on the way over.  Kerr's come a long way since that first jump, and now his goal is to leap 2.4 meters – four centimetres higher than his medal winning 2.36 meters.   “For me it's just about getting stronger and faster and that's something we really worked on this year,” he told Hosking.  “Probably the most we've done of that in my whole career, and that's, that's why I've done so well.”  The world record is 2.45 meters, and if he continues the way he does, Kerr thinks the goal is within reach.  “If I have another four years of that, then there's no reason why I wouldn't be getting better.”  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In today's episode I welcome track star Sue McDonald to the show! Sue is no ordinary track star—she is shattering world records in the masters track and field arena going where no human has ever gone before in her age groups and putting out unbelievable times at 61 years old! This mother of three from Santa Barbara, California, is virtually on world record watch every time she competes, and I had a great visit meeting her personally in her home environment and finding out the secrets of what is possible when you take care of your body and you dedicate yourself to training and competitive goals and literally defy the aging process. Regardless of whether you're interested in trying to challenge Sue or take down her records, it's great to realize what's possible when you continue that dedication to peak performance and setting challenging goals and having a wonderful consistent training regimen.  In this episode, Sue describes her lifestyle and her training regimen as “boring”, but what you get out of that is the realization that these little things do really count every single day—and that you can get better even as you age chronologically. I can't think of a more inspiring guest to have you reflect on your own lifestyle and your own personal goals. Instead of just sitting back and telling stories about how things were so great back in the day, Sue is doing things that will just blow your mind and in a variety of events: she's an elite sprinter, middle distance runner, and a multi-event athlete with things like High Jump and Heptathlon. Join me and Sue in Santa Barbara for this awesome conversation to learn some of her secrets and get inspired to go out there and set your own goals!   LINKS: Brad Kearns.com Brad's Shopping page B.rad Whey Protein Isolate Superfuel - The Best Protein on The Planet! On this episode of the world famous Sofa King Podcast, we look at the US Navy's Operation Highjump. Just a year after WWII, the famous explorer, Admiral Richard Byrd, launched an operation of 70 ships, 33 aircraft, and 4700 men to establish a base in Antarctica. Why? Well, ‘Merca! Also, rumors persisted that the Nazis had laid claim to some land down there and some leaders (maybe old Adolf himself) escaped to a secret base (in Nazi UFOs?). Regardless of why, Highjump became the start of legitimate research in Antarctica. It was the precursor to the strange Antarctic Treaty of 1959. But it is a continent of mystery. Did the US detonate 3 nukes there in the 1950s? Why do some think the entrance to the Hollow Earth is found here? What does the mysterious missing diary of Admiral Byrd say he found? She is also the strength and conditioning coach for World Champion and Olympic medalist high jumper Nicola Olyslagers (formerly McDermott). Previously, she worked as the Head of Physical Preparation of the Australian Women's Hockey Team, NSWIS, and HPSNZ, working with NZ Rowing and leading NZ women's hockey. She is an elite level 3 ASCA coach with a master's in strength and conditioning and over 17 years of experience. Strength is far more expansive than what is gained from lifting barbells. It encapsulates a large number of qualities and abilities. When it comes to helping high-level athletes break through a performance barrier, what is needed is not simply “more barbell strength” but improving one's total strength and movement package. Many forms of movement and strength can be employed to do this. This week's podcast guest, Nicolai Morris, uses many strength and movement methods in her training. One of Nicolai's athletes, Nicola Olyslagers, recently set the Oceanic high jump record at 2.03 meters (6'8”), and in today's episode, Nicolai goes through the various strength and movement methods that helped set Olyslagers up for success on the high jump apron. Our discussion also deals with pole vault, swimming, and athlete autonomy. This episode was an expansive discussion on the role of strength and coordination in high jump training and beyond. And even in drilling, I do better when I relax rather than tensing up and trying so hard. So it's a really fascinating one. And yeah, in swimming, when you try hard, it destroys you in an event in a 200” “But we've been doing a lot of work on her weaknesses. For her, that's often single leg strength, stability and hinging, hip extension type work and cross chain work are kind of key elements that have come across the whole way through that” “So we added in a bit of an obstacle course where she'd land on different soft, hard, interesting, big surfaces. And I told her to be creative, and she's a creative person, and went, all right, just chuck a bunch of things down on the ground. Make it fun, make it challenging, but make sure you are landing on different surfaces, hard and soft” “But our traditional model will help. We don't really have access to a gymnastics facility over the next four, five weeks. Coming into world indoors, let's go backwards. And we went back to our traditional way of doing things and you could see the position wasn't there. And immediately after the competition, it was. Yet we're going back to gymnastics” “She's got a beach right near her and her initial training, no matter when she comes back, will always start on sand and grass rather than going straight on track, which isn't uncommon. But the sand, she's always done blocks of sand her entire life.
