I know, I said I was going to be gone for a few weeks, and I am. I'm not here. Let's keep this just between us. I needed to come out of the domeworld quickly becauseI've had three synchronicities in the past two days about an episode that I put out on May 19th of last year. The episode is called the Final Death of the Small Self, and because of these synchronicities and the people who've brought them to me, and because of all of my new listeners, hi, hello, welcomeagain, I've decided to reissue this episode. Because of all of that, and also because of the times that we're all going through and what I'm hearing from people about how hard it is right now. What do we do? How do we make it through? What is the move here? Also in this episode, you'll hear the voice of the greatDavid Coleman, who I believe saved my life that night and brought me through the portal to the other side. He is a great man, a great astrologer, a kind and wonderful human who, if you're looking for help with anything anomalous, if you're looking for a deep dive into your astrological chart, if you're looking for a helper and guide, I can't recommend highly enough. If nothing else, become a patron and support the enormous work he puts in each month bringing us the astrological weather and powerful Hermetic practices. Also, I said f*ck a LOT in this episode. Meditation is great, its benefits incredible. And…most of us resist it. Not just because we are busy, but because meditation—like any space of quiet—would have us face stories and beliefs that we prefer to avoid. In this episode, we explore our resistance to meditation and, hand-in-hand, a practice that may help us look forward to learning meditative practice like never before. This episode launches a mini-series made up of short episodes about meditation for people who know little about meditation, resist meditation, or feel bad at meditative practice.

As many of you know, I helped start a small construction company in order to Resolve a problem I was having, construction cost being extremely high today. So far, we have been able to bring in projects 15% to 27% less than previous bids we received. We are also working for other small owners and developers as a third-party owner's representative and/or general contractor helping them bring their self-storage projects in utilizing the same process. We are often asked how our prices can be lower than others today. On this episode I welcome author Mike Fiorito back onto the podcast. We have a wonderful conversation and explore themes from Mike's new book "For All We Know", which is available for pre-order. Also, I take care of some housekeeping (AKA FIRETENDING) at the beginning of the podcast, talking about some radical new frequencies that are coming through. The podcast is changing, The Bridge Collective is changing, the work is deepening. I have this burning clarity and am being called to lay out the journey that I know so so well, for the benefit of all of us. Stay tuned! The next episode will be a solo episode called The Final Death of the Small Self, highlighting a story I've never told, and a pivoting moment on the path - maybe the initiating moment on the path. “Awesome” is used so often these days—at least in the US—that it has almost lost its meaning. It seems that it hardly has a bigger impact than saying “Oh, that's nice.” But, for astronauts, the truly awesome experience of seeing the Earth from space with our own eyes is transformative—an experience that catalyzes the profound shift in the way we think about ourselves, our lives, and our home planet Earth. In 1987, Frank White coined the term “overview effect” to describe this experience. But there's something with the “overview” label that never sat well with me and I couldn't point out why—until an article titled The ‘Small Self' Effect and the research it referred to caught my attention. In this episode, you'll learn about the small self effect and how the experience of looking at Earth from orbit profoundly transforms astronauts. I outline the history of Frank White's overview effect. I describe how awe triggered the small self in me while I was in space. I also discuss how psychologists define awe and underscore how being awestruck can elicit feelings of belonging and hope that are critical to forming the cooperation and collaboration needed to form and sustain social groups—from families and communities to countries and humankind. “‘Feeling small, blissfully overwhelmed, more connected to others, and filled with the desire to do good towards others are the common themes in every astronaut's account of their experience of looking at the Earth from orbit.” - Kathy Sullivan This week on Kathy Sullivan Explores: ● What “awesome” means to astronauts● Frank White's Overview Effect● What “awe” means to psychologists● The small self effect and how awe may have a vital social function Resources Mentioned: ● The Atlantic | The ‘Small Self' Effect by Shannon Stirone● Awe, the Small Self, and Prosocial Behavior Our Favorite Quotes: ● “The vast panorama out my window triggered a feeling of awe unlike any I have ever known. Today, I'm interviewing Sandra Pelley who is a very talented spiritual coach. She helps her clients have more compassion towards themselves. We're discussing the ways we're showing up to our lives, showing up for our businesses, becoming more visible and how can you do more of that in your life. I definitely had some breakthroughs and can't wait to hear what you takeaway from it. Enjoy. Sandra shares her insights: And it's because they've been given this space where they can develop the confidence, where they can start to be seen. Now, does this mean that they've gone from not being seen on camera to suddenly running a business where they're showing themselves 100%. No, it's a process. Because you have to go through each of those steps of first of all being heard. I think that's probably the first one is knowing that you have something to say and everybody's story out there is so important and show up with that story. It's not whine about the story, but tell your story, so that people learn from it and can grow on their own. Understand that they've got something to say too. My bike was stolen. I felt violated and yet in that moment of violation, I judged myself in that - Oh, but you haven't been violated in a physical way. Well, stop that. I felt violated. Own that feeling and speak about it with my community because we have to recognize these emotions and feelings and own them. Show up in that feeling that emotion that you're feeling. Because it's so important because other people have those same experiences. So, even though it was just my mountain bike, I felt violated in the moment. And I'm owning that now because that was such a horrible part and a horrible thing to have happened to me, personally. And I'm recognizing me. And I think that's what's important when we tell people our stories is we're giving others the allowance to recognize themselves right now and show up again. To start to see that there's other ways that we don't have to do the ways that we were told they had to be done as a child. And that's what this is all about. It's breaking those expectations; breaking through those limitations and starting to be okay with laying down the pathway of our own growth for our own sake. Because you know what when I take care of myself, the growth I've seen in my husband, there's no measurement where we would have whined and cried and screamed and bellowed and even argued over the stolen bike. We sat down the other day after coming back from the cops and reporting it. And my husband made the decision that he wanted another bike. He stepped into recognizing his value in that moment, and for our relationship, like we're will be married 38 years in two days here right. And for him to be at that point now where he's recognizing his value I've never seen this in him before. And it's because of the work I'm doing on myself and my own path. And when I heard him say yes, go to Calgary Alberta and get this bicycle for me. It was just like this big mind blowing moment. Be clear about what you want. So if you want to be seen, be clear about being seen. The thing that when you start speaking about this last little bit here, what do I want to leave people with. It's a quote that I believe actually came possibly from one of your podcasts that Lisa Nichols said - I must amplify so I can amplify others. I know, by showing up and amplifying myself, my light, my energy, whatever that is, my love for myself that I amplified others. And that is a direct result to what I'm seeing in my husband and in my community right now is because I amplified myself so others can amplify. Sandra Pelley - The Sandini - is an inner peace mentor and the visionary behind the Guide Academy, teaching you to go BIG with your Little You, also known as your Inner Child or Small Self. She works with empty nesters who are ready to make changes and have no idea where to start. Sandra helps them through simple yet profound steps towards a confident new version of themselves, one who can now be happy and have fun. As a wayshower and mentor who helps her clients through and out of a period of time where everything might seem like it's going wrong, Sandra uses her unique ability as an energy chameleon to flow to the epi centers that are ready to be worked with. These are often events, limiting beliefs, and expectations from childhood that, once revealed, can empower these beautiful souls to new awareness around what has been holding them back. Sandra has many healing modalities in her coaching tool kit. Life circumstances, a medical background, author of her own book, A Spiritual How-To and training in Reiki, Energy work, and Shamanism opened the doorway to limitless potential which Sandra invites you to join her in. Do you ever ask yourself what are you honoring? The moments you are feeling resistance in your life and are not sure how to move forward I invite you to check IN with yourself like I was invited to by my husband. Last weekend when I scheduled a meeting with a beautiful soul I have connected online, Missy the astrologer, I completely forgot about the meeting and then I was facing resistance. The thoughts in my mind were: Do I really want to go? I am being so in my flow and creating. I would have to take a taxi. I will need to get ready and head out again…. All these thoughts were making me feel smaller, they were irritating and frustrating me. So I asked my amazing hubby how can I best decide. He invited me to check in on what I am honoring? There is no right or wrong AND you get to check IN and see…. Are you honoring your commitments? Are you honoring your word? Are you honoring your body? Are you honoring your energy? Are you honoring the inspired ideas? Or Are you honoring your comfort? Are you honoring your ego? Are you honoring your small self who wants to keep you small and exactly where you are? No right or wrong answer my love, Just awareness… and awareness is a key to an abundant, fulfilling and joyful life. What are you honoring today?
In the tradition of the English troubadour, Nick Mulvey is a soulful multi-instrumentalist, an Earth protector, and a student of Celtic Shamanism. Most importantly, he is generous with his insights for young artists. This podcast flows in three parts, first we discuss Nick's musical background from studying in Havana at nineteen, to playing hang drum with Portico Quartet, to his embodied solo career as a singer-songwriter. We then discuss Nick's pilgrimage to Embercombe in Southwest England where Mac McCartney taught him the spiritual nourishment of Northern European indigeneity and shamanism. Finally we explore Nick's work as an environmental protector and his recent experience at COP26. Throughout the conversation, Nick drops beautiful gems of wisdom for emerging artists and offers playful backstories for some of his most popular songs. Nick Mulvey is an English musician and a passionate environmentalist. He studied ethnomusicology at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London where he was a founding member of the band Portico Quartet. Nick released his Mercury Prize-nominated solo album “First Mind” in 2014, following it up three years later with “Wake Up Now.” His most recent album “Begin Again,” explores reconnection to his ancestral roots. The small self comes from a perception of yourself as the individual human existing in a malevolent universe where you must protect yourself from danger and consider your needs above all else. This is created from the illusion of imperfection and disconnection. It's based in Fear. The Source Self is one with All That Is and seeks to add love into its reality by seeing the truth and seeking greater connection with All That Is. It's based in love. In this episode, Joshua explains the difference between the two and how to see yourself as the Source Self, which is limitless and the truth of who you really are. This week David talks with Desmond Spann, a poet, creator, emcee, and educator based in the Portland area, about his Friday Reflections podcast and more. Desmond talks about his journey and the importance of words and writing as a means for expressing and experiencing emotions. One thing Desmond shares with us that really sticks out in this interview, is his view that you can train your emotions, not control your emotions. Encouraging us to be aware of how we feel in the moment and choosing to retell ourselves a more positive narrative, all with the intentions of moving away from the fear based culture we currently live it. This is an interesting episode, filled with insight into what Desmond has done and is doing with his work. As always there’s close connection between food (or the emotions around food) and what David’s guests are doing. Desmond shares his One Small Bite- write everyday even if it is just one word and build on it to help facilitate more self-reflections. He suggests starting with a word to summarize the day, whatever feels right to you. Writing every day is something both Desmond and David do and they mention the positive impacts it has had in their lives, even being a reason each of them had the material to put together a book. A little about Desmond Spann: In the face of rapid change, people are unsure of the world and doubt who we are. We realized we sheltered ourselves in the commutes to and from work. We stayed busy to hide our pain pretending everything was all good. Now that normal is gone, we are left with ourselves. We are left with our pain and we are strangers to ourselves. As a Hip Hop poet, Desmond Spann creates poetry, music, and shares stories and insights to liberate our truth from fear. This truth may convince us of our inherit self-worth. This truth may show people how to create a society that systemically works for everyone. It's a truth that seeks to bring clarity and awakened our deepest sense of who we are. Because when we liberate ourselves from fear, we discover who we are. We act. We impact this world for the better.Have you heard about the new One Small Bite Facebook community? I frequently get asked by listeners and readers about funding into a Self Administered Pension. There seems to be a lot of confusion about what it is, or indeed isn't, and who they are or aren't well suited to. So that is this weeks' objective, to answer these very queries. I hope it is of use. My father used to shoot. He'd go out with his busted old shotgun with the stock taped on with insulation tape! He'd walk around fields for what seemed like days at a time, coming home with the occasional pheasant! As frowned upon and macabre as that may seem to some today, when you are from the midlands of Ireland that was (and remains) the equivalent of golfers hunting for birdies today! I remember vividly the first time he took me out shooting. Being fiercely animal-centered I wasn't up for shooting any live animal, but I do remember taking my first shot with a shot-gun in the wilds of Kilkenny. Aiming for a tree, with nerves and an unsteady hand (I was 10!) I let fly a cartridge, missed the tree and very nearly shot a passing duck. Luckily he passed unharmed, but that was essentially the beginning and the end of my shooting career! Whenever I see a duck these days I'm reminded of that fond memory. If It Looks Like A Duck, Quacks Like A Duck, Its A Duck! A Small Self-Administered Pension Scheme (SSAS) is just that, a pension, which is small in number of members, and which is self-administered! There are lots of misconceptions about what they do and don't do. If you like detail then I strongly suggest reading this, Chapter 19 of the Revenue's Pension Manual. That will keep you going for a while! I get a lot of questions about Self-Administered Schemes, so here are some of the typical questions I get asked about them, and a broad answer to help get some clarity around them. Thanks for your time. Paddy.

We dig in to the values that have informed their decision-making and market development, including their decision to farm in a the small-but-progressive city of Moscow. Kelly and Russell talk about how they’ve developed a CSA model that really works for them as farmers, their efforts to foster an active market farming community, and their recent diversification into seed production – and how all of that ties back to a philosophy of giving good weight to their customers and community. Our work, as practitioners, ultimately centers itself around our ability to shift our perspective from what is contracted to that which is utterly expansive. Once we see this new, more comprehensive view, our work evolves toward integrating this new vision with our old perspective. This dance back and forth becomes a way of living that incorporates a commitment to benefitting all beings. Sitting still regularly supports this realization. As it's incorporated, it naturally, and spontaneously, begins to loosen whatever it is that might be binding us. This opening allows for us to hold both the manifest with the Unmanifest all at once as we live in the world. From here we can then, all at once, begin to support a conscious coexistence of separation and unity; conventional reality and Ultimate reality; the ego and what's forever beyond the ego; what's playing on the stage of mind with what's in the audience; the many and the one. Michael describes how this process takes on certain characteristics over time, offering us a simple map of experience and development. We begin with a sense of pleasure, which offers us refuge from what threatens our egos. Over time, this gives way to an eventual resistance to what is going on. The ego sees that meditation actually prevents us from hiding and therefore, at the most primal level, we see that there's no hiding. If we can stick with our practice at this point, we have the opportunity to open to what is without flinching. This stage of openness supports realization and a deep peace. Finally, integrating this peace, this Big Self awareness, into the habitual moves of our small self allows for us to become an embodied blessing that can truly serve all things.
