Chris Assaad is a multi-talented artist, singer-songwriter, wordsmith and speaker. His songs are pure alchemy that open the heart and inspire, connecting us to our wholeness and joy. His music soothes and seduces with exquisite layers of acoustic and electric acoustic guitars falling over R&B, reggae and soul-infused grooves serenaded by Chris's richly textured emotive vocals. Chris is an up-and-coming artist within the conscious music community and wellness & transformation movement opening up for artists such as Trevor Hall, Ayla Nereo, Michael Franti and Nick Mulvey. He has also collaborated live and in the studio with Mose and has been a featured guest on Lee Harris' Impact The World podcast and Portal Presents live series. We had the pleasure of interviewing Louis Knight over Zoom video. New Mythology is the third album from Mercury Prize-nominated artist Nick Mulvey and his first in 5 years. Out today on Verve Forecast (Fiction Records in the UK), the record was recorded in Paris with renowned producer Renaud Letang (Manu Chao, Feist, Connan Mockasin) and is a stunning 13 track collection brimming with Nick's innate musicality and insatiable curiosity about the connection between humans and the planet we live on. The album was featured this morning on NPR's New Music Friday, with Robin Hilton saying It might be my favorite record of the week…almost like living room recordings that start very quiet but then they'll bloom in these beautiful ways." “The Gift” was also just featured as a Song of the Day on KUTX and Mulvey's interview with Variance Magazine ran yesterday.Journeys come in a myriad of forms. Nick Mulvey knows this, he's been on many since he released his sophomore album Wake Up Now. Be it a change in geographical scenery – a physical move of home from the UK to Ibiza, and back – to the sea-sawing wonder and vulnerability of the everyday human experience; in this case becoming a father and navigating the pandemic. Most pertinent though, when it comes to his powerful songwriting, has been his journey to compute the scope and scale of his feelings: an attempt to embody the personal all the way to the planetary – and grasp their true inseparability. Nick Mulvey has come a long way since the release of his critically acclaimed debut album First Mind in 2014. A musician, composer and producer, he has amassed a staggering 587 million streams globally, the equivalent of half a million albums sold and has completely sold out his first headline UK tour since before the pandemic, including his headline show at London's Koko. Dr. Paulette Steeves (Cree and Métis) is an Associate Professor in Sociology at Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and a Canada Research Chair in Healing and Reconciliation. Dr. Steeves' research focus is on the Pleistocene history of the Western Hemisphere, reclaiming and rewriting Indigenous histories and healing and reconciliation, and she argues that Indigenous peoples were present in the Western Hemisphere as early as 100,000 years ago, and possibly much earlier. Her first book - which should be in every library - is "The Indigenous Paleolithic of the Americas," published in July 2021 by The University of Nebraska Press.Dr. Steeves has said that rewriting and un-erasing Indigenous histories becomes a part of healing and reconciliation, transforming public consciousness, and confronting and challenging racism.During this podcast, Tiokasin talks with Dr. Steeves about her current work on the "Canadian Residential School and Colonial Institutions Database, 1620 to the Present." This is a comprehensive database of Residential Schools, Indian Hospitals, and Indian Day Schools in Canada. There are now 950 sites in the database. Dr. Steeves says, "The numbers of missing and deceased children who were forced to attend residential schools in Canada may never be known. We must work to find the ones we can, to locate the hundreds of unmarked burials at residential schools, Indian day schools, and Indian hospitals, and to acknowledge the children, and honor their memories." Visit https://www.crscid.com/database for more information. If you notice a school or institution is missing, email the information to Dr. Steeves at paulette.steeves@algomau.ca and the information will be added to the database.Production Credits:Tiokasin Ghosthorse (Lakota), Host and Executive ProducerLiz Hill (Red Lake Ojibwe), ProducerMalcolm Burn, Studio Engineer, Radio Kingston, WKNY 1490 AM and 107.9 FM, Kingston, NYTiokasin Ghosthorse, Audio EditorMusic Selections:1. In the tradition of the English troubadour, Nick Mulvey is a soulful multi-instrumentalist, an Earth protector, and a student of Celtic Shamanism. Most importantly, he is generous with his insights for young artists. This podcast flows in three parts, first we discuss Nick's musical background from studying in Havana at nineteen, to playing hang drum with Portico Quartet, to his embodied solo career as a singer-songwriter. We then discuss Nick's pilgrimage to Embercombe in Southwest England where Mac McCartney taught him the spiritual nourishment of Northern European indigeneity and shamanism. Finally we explore Nick's work as an environmental protector and his recent experience at COP26. Throughout the conversation, Nick drops beautiful gems of wisdom for emerging artists and offers playful backstories for some of his most popular songs. Nick Mulvey is an English musician and a passionate environmentalist. He studied ethnomusicology at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London where he was a founding member of the band Portico Quartet. Nick released his Mercury Prize-nominated solo album “First Mind” in 2014, following it up three years later with “Wake Up Now.” His most recent album “Begin Again,” explores reconnection to his ancestral roots. Powracam do Was z solowym odcinkiem, jak zwykle dotyczącym moich aktualnych refleksji. Dziś padło na umiejętność samouspokajania się (self-soothing), czyli jak można polegać na sobie i brać odpowiedzialność za swój wewnętrzny świat, szczególnie w trudnych sytuacjach, w których łatwo uzależnić się od wsparcia z zewnątrz. A gdyby tak polegać na sobie? Zamiast zawsze dzwonić do przyjaciół w kryzysie i pytać o rady, nauczyć się, że same/sami potrafimy ukoić się w smutku, lęku czy złości? Okazać sobie współczucie i znaleźć rozwiązanie w sobie? Talents RAJE

As you know, we're exploring the impact of Covid-19 and other 21st century traumas on UK life - particularly the worlds of business, culture and education - talking to those working at the coalface. A special area of focus, over a number of episodes, is the music industry. Already a sector facing radical adaptation in a digital age, always treading a fine line between a public devoted to live music, festivals and championing their favourite artists and unsustainable business models, the death of record sales and a fragile future for many grassroots music venues. Throw in a global pandemic, and even the most fundamental recording, touring, creating and performing becomes a minefield. We've spoken to Norman Cook about club and festival survival, Meeta Raval about the state of opera and Amy Lamé about London's night-time economy in lockdown - with many more expert voices still to come, who will help to unpick this complex and valuable world. In this podcast episode, our special guest is Fiona Bevan. East Anglian Fiona is both a singer-songwriter of her own folk-inspired music and one of the UK's most prolific pop and rock songwriters for global acts as diverse as Kylie Minogue, Steps, Nick Mulvey, Lewis Capaldi, Aurora, Ed Harcourt and The Backstreet Boys to name just a handful. A contributor to a clutch of top 40 hit singles and albums, and an acclaimed performer of her own work, Fiona is still best known by many for co-writing the song 'Little Things' with Ed Sheeran. The song was released by One Direction in 2012, getting to number one in 13 countries with platinum certified sales in the UK, USA, Australia, Norway, Mexico and Canada, winning a coveted BMI award for the song-writing. Richard spoke to Fiona about the real lows of being a performer when you are banned from performing, the highs of having a dizzyingly upbeat track included on one of the biggest selling albums of 2020 - and what she thinks needs to change as the industry recovers from this unprecedented crisis. --- Useful links: https://fionabevan.co.uk/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiona_Bevan http://www.navigatorrecords.co.uk/artists/fiona-bevan/ https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/kylie-minogue-songwriter-fiona-bevan-paid-only-100-in-streaming-royalties-for-album-work-xbdl0cxcs https://www.songwritingmagazine.co.uk/how-i-wrote/one-direction-little-things-fiona-bevan --- For more information on how you can get involved with The Possibility Club – an inclusive community of professionals working out what's next, have a look here > www.thepossibilityclub.org You can also receive Finding Chances, a free weekly letter from Richard Freeman, looking behind-the-scenes at business, culture, community and education by signing-up at findingchances.substack.com/ We'd love to know what you think of this podcast. Choix musicaux: Nick Mulvey "Moment Of Surrender" et Beautiful Chorus "Hymns of spirit/ Darling"

"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery One of the often taken-for-granted and overlooked aspects of climate is our oceans. And by oceans, we mean ocean. One. All "oceans" are part of the same system, and they have been absorbing the heat and CO2 that we have been so irresponsibly emitting. But how can we get people to take action on climate, sustained and long-term? Our guest, Philippe Cousteau Jr. believes it all begins when we fall in love with our oceans. Standing on the shoulders of his father, Philippe Sr. and grandfather, Jacques Cousteau, Philippe reaches even further by taking us with him to explore just how endlessly immense the sea is, how much it has loved us, and how much we love it back. London-based songwriter Nick Mulvey already had a wealth of musical knowledge before coming to the fore with a solo project in 2012, with years of formal education in Havana, Cuba studying music and art, as well as being an active member in Mercury Award nominees Portico Quartet. His first musical interactions were with piano and drums before he acquired a guitar in Southern Spain at the age of 18. He moved to Cuba a year later, and returned to the U.K. to study ethnomusicology at the School of Oriental and African Studies, submerging himself in different styles of music but specializing in West and Central African in particular. It was during this time that Mulvey met his Portico Quartet bandmates in 2005, where he played the Hang. After a successful stint with the outfit -- which included a Mercury Prize nomination in 2008, 150 shows worldwide, and signing to Peter Gabriel's Real World Records -- Mulvey decided it was time to leave in 2011 and return to his first inspiration, the guitar. With an abundance of genres at his fingertips, Mulvey set about creating a sound that was both striking and unique, intertwining influences of great musicians such as Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, and Tom Waits with a variety of African styles, including guitarist Kawele. This resulted in the sweet melodies and rhythmic strumming patterns that can be heard on his Fever to the Form EP, which was produced by Dan Carey (Steve Mason, Bat for Lashes) and released in 2013. In the meantime, he supported the likes of Willy Mason, Lianne La Havas, and Laura Marling on tour. Mulvey's full-length debut, First Mind, arrived in 2014 via Universal's Fiction and Harvest Records. It became a Top Ten album in the U.K. as well as a Mercury Prize nominee. His second LP was recorded live in the studio with his band and producer Ethan Johns before being passed along to Carey for the finishing electronic touches. Titled Wake Up Now, it was released in mid-2017 and addressed topics including the refugee crisis. Dancing for the Answers, a four-track EP, followed in 2018. Mulvey kicked off 2019 with the single "Moment of Surrender."-Allmusic / Scott Kerr  nickmulvey.comeastforest.org

As the founder of Openlab.fm, not only did Robert have a beautiful vision when he started the station - at a time when options were limited - to create an alternative place for us to rest our weary ears upon, but, he gave us hope.  A hope for exactly the kind of scene we are starting to experience musically on the island now. Through nights like World Unplugged, SoFar Sounds and little impromtpu gigs from Nick Mulvey at La Paloma.  Musically the island is opening up. Changing. We wished to unleash this audio, recorded By Jo Youle the presenter of this show in 2014 in Santa Gertrudis, to remind people what OpenLab.fm is about. Remember its roots, its soul and why even now, it still needs help to stay On Air. Robert is widely known for this track, Children, which exploded in 1996 on his album Dreamland. But his connection to the island through music was also linked to so many other aspects, like his creativity, his love of nature, architecture and design. We wanted to celebrate on this podcast the fact Openlab.fm is back on analogue and FM dial this summer in Ibiza, but also to let you know they need help to keep the dream alive.   Please Pop onto their website and donate if you can to keep this incredible radio stations output and sound quality high and on air. www.openlab.fm  Come follow us on Instagram @theresetrebel Revie us on iTunes if you like todays show.

In this episode John journeys to Mr Dan's Studio in Streatham to talk with Nick Mulvey and producer Dan Carey about how they recorded and produced Nick's Mercury nominated debut album 'First Mind'. The boys dive deep into the working processes and shared memories of the time they spent together in the musical playground that is Dan's home studio. Listen to find out how a collection of dirty cups worked their way into the rhythm section of 'Venus', what advice a dream incarnation of David Bowie had for Nick before recording 'Dancing for the Answers', and whether daily micro-dosing of psychedelics was a studio success. Tracks Discussed: Fever to the Form, Venus, Dancing For The Answers  If you'd like to help support the show you can donate as little or as much as you'd like here, (we really appreciate your contributions): Donate You can learn more about our partners Focusrite here. Follow us on Social Media to keep up to date with the latest episodes and submit questions: InstagramFacebookTwitter Visit our website to join our mailing list: www.tapenotes.co.uk

Wow. What a year it's been! Incredible to think Inner Truth only launched to friends and family in January this year and now we stand at 58 episodes with tens of thousands of downloads. It's hard to believe that somehow I ended up interviewing some of my favourite artists (Nick Mulvey!), writers, and most inspiring leaders in the conscious field. Most of all its been amazing to start conversations in this area, build a wonderful audience, and connect with so many amazing souls along the journey. Its always the reflections that you have on the episodes that light me up and its incredible when people are inspired to take action from something they've listened to on the show. So to say thank you in some small way, I put together a Best Of Inner Truth 2018 highlights show. Its bumper length (2 hours) and packed with some of the best wisdom shared over the year from everyone including Shaman Durek, Jamie Catto, Ruby Warrington, Nick Mulvey + more! I hope you love it! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Nick Mulvey is someone who’s been at the top of my Spotify playlists for years now and someone I’ve followed right from his early EPs back in 2014. His debut album First Mind was an amazing release that got a Mercury Prize nomination but its his second album – Wake Up Now – released last year that really showed a big shift in his personal vulnerability and willingness to address deep issues. The album explores a lot of really profound topics on what it means to be human and what it means to be truly alive. Talking about themes like awakening, being present, being mindful and our response to the refugee crisis. It was a big departure from some of the safer territory of traditional singer-songwriters and showed both a big step in terms of personal vulnerability but also trailblazing a way into more conscious music making. In this talk we spoke about what was going on inside his head between the albums, what that journey of ever deeper personal vulnerability in the music is like, and how he feels now its come out.
