On this Episode of Luke Who's Talking I'm going to talk about, Test Drives, Dog Jumps and Challenge Results. Yeah, so I took a new vehicle for a test drive the other week. As I've possibly mentioned before im wanting a slight off roader, so I can do some gravel etc, but nothing too massive for everyday driving. I've settled on a Subaru XV, it has that all wheel drive capability and also isnt a big slug of a vehicle, I probably should order one at some point. Next, animals for sport, controversial. However, my brother entered his two doggies in a ‘High Jump' competiton at one of the local shows and won!!. One dog won the ‘medium' category, managing 1.8m and the other won the ‘big' category jumping 2.2m. Video: To wrap things almost up, just a rundown of my 65 Roses Challeenge, I managed to ride 720km, and raise just over $1,000. Thank you to everyone who go on board with it, whether you made a donation or just shared posts, or even just started a conversation about it. Of course, some manufacturers do this without changing the name - like Toyota with Yaris and Yaris Cross. Either way, beancounters inside carmakers jump at this kind of thing, because the fundamental R&D is already in the can - amortised and paid for - you just jack the car up a bit, you give it marginally different styling, bit of botox if you’re lucky, slap on a new badge - and there’s a brand new SUV, at a fraction of the cost of developing a bespoke one. Like, don’t get me wrong here: Stonic is an awesome styling exercise. It looks great - the proportions are spot on, and the front end in particular came together really well. Especially on GT-Line, which you’re predominately looking at in this review. With cars being the fashion statement they often are in the minds of many, there’s all too frequently a line in the sand with the letters ‘SUV’ on one side. The ‘must have’ side. It’s kinda non-negotiable. So there will be people out there for whom only an SUV will do. This ultimatum will be delivered to you in some way - probably not in the manner of the butler handing you a gilt-edged envelope. For these people (who I would argue can’t see the forest here, for the trees) Stonic will be a contender in the way Rio won’t. Stonic is priced - and equipped - competitively against its peers, such as Mazda’s CX-3 and Big Sister’s Venue. You’ll pay roughly $10,000 more for a fully-loaded CX-3. However, the Mazda’s not a rip-off. CX-3 delivers roughly 50 per cent more power from its 2.0-litre four, and it has AWD and adaptive cruise, for example - both of which the Stonic lacks. If you go dollar-for-dollar with CX-3, you’re looking at a front-drive CX-3 Maxx Sport - and then you’re back to manual seats, non-adaptive cruise control and smaller 16-inch alloys. Stonic GT-Line starts looking pretty sharp against a Maxx Sport CX-3. Hyundai Venue is close to a direct Stonic competitor on price and spec. Like Stonic, Venue is front-drive only, but even here, Venue will give you about 25 per cent better power to weight. So, there’s your boxed set of three diminutive SUVs, if you want to duck out and test drive today, comparatively. CX-3 for polish and performance; Stonic as the price-leader; Venue in the middle. Just make sure you drive variants at the same price-point, otherwise this will skew your perception.

Elektrisch fahren ist in. Zumindest ein bisschen – sprich, als Hybridfahrzeug. Das sieht man auch bei Subaru so und hat dem XV einen Hybridantrieb spendiert. Vermarktet wird diese Version unter dem Namen Subaru XV e-Boxer. Darum geht es diesmal!Der Subaru XV verbindet das Beste zweier Welten – optisch und technisch: So sieht es zumindest der Hersteller und das ist auch nicht falsch. Insbesondre ist das dann so, wenn man sich für den XV e-Boxer entscheidet. Der fährt als Alternative zum klassischen 1,6-Liter-Boxermotor mit einem 110 kW/150 PS starken 2,0-Liter-Benziner mit einem kleinen Elektromotor vor. Power und Drive!    Wer sich für einen Subaru XV entscheidet, muss zudem auch noch eine Motorisierung auswählen. Hier stehen zwei zur Wahl: ein 1,6-Liter-Benziner mit 84 kW/114 PS und der e-Boxer, dessen 110 kW/150 PS starker 2,0-Liter-Benziner von einem kleinen Elektromotor flankiert wird. Hierbei handelt es sich um ein Mildhybrid-System. Das verbindet die klassischen Vorzüge der Boxerbauweise mit den Vorteilen einer elektrischen Unterstützung. So kann man streckenweise auch rein elektrisch fahren.   Der Vierzylinder, der aus zwei Litern Hubraum 110 kW/150 PS und 194 Nm Drehmoment entwickelt, wird von einem 12,3 kW/16,7 PS starken Elektromotor unterstützt.Dieses E-Aggregat bezieht seine Energie aus einer 13,5 kW großen Lithium-Ionen-Batterie, die mit rekuperierter Bremsenergie und überschüssigem Drehmoment gespeist wird. Diese Kombination garantiert ein üppiges Drehmoment schon bei niedrigen Drehzahlen, was unter anderem zu einem kraftvollen Antritt beispielsweise beim Ampelstart sorgt. Die Beschleunigung von 0-100 km/h erledigt der XV e-Boxer in 10,7 Sek., die Spitze wird bei 193 km/h erreicht.  Der Kraftstoffverbrauch liegt kombiniert bei 6,5 l/100km, die CO2-Emissionen kombiniert bei 149 g/km. Das Zusammenspiel zwischen Benzinmotor und Elektroaggregat koordiniert das System automatisch zwischen drei Fahrmodi. Der Elektromotor beschleunigt den Subaru XV leise und lokal emissionsfrei – bis zu 1,6 Kilometer weit bei maximal 40 km/h. Die Kosten!Wenn Sie sich beeilen und noch in diesem Jahr die Lieferung schaffen, dann kostet der Subaru XV als 2.0ie e-Boxer Platinum Lineartronic dank der reduzierten Mehrwertsteuer 36,593,60 Euro. I currently drive a Subaru XV and love it. However, we are planning on getting a trailer yacht. I have been researching a tow vehicle. I'm allowing 2.5T GTM for the boat, trailer and extras. (It’s quoted at around 1.8T, so I’m being conservative.) I'm considering Mitsubishi Triton GSR, with roll top tonneau, or possibly a Pajero. Because we also use canoes and kayaks, and have kids with bikes, the ute looks the most logical. However, given the what is to be towed, and the gear, I wonder if I should look to a higher towing safety margin - eg. a Landcruiser 200? - Valerie OK - I think you’re on the right track. (I actually own a Triton GSR with the roll-top.) It’s great for that kind of thing but if you plan on carrying those kayaks on racks, I’d want to know how the racks integrate with the roll-top (like, the rear rack). Exactly how do we make that work without interfering with the rolltop? Triton is excellent value among utes. I’d really like it to come with adaptive cruise, but hey - there’s no such thing as the perfect ute. Super Select II (the transfer case in Triton) is excellent. I really like the way 4H is available with the centre diff unlocked. This means you can drive in 4H on a high traction surface, which is excellent on a steep driveway, or in the wet, or on a good dirt road. And then, if things get really slippery, you just turn the knob and lock the centre diff. This is a brilliant differentiating feature that most competing utes cannot match. And let’s not forget Triton is $12k - or thereabouts - cheaper than a Ranger Wildtrak. However, like all utes, Triton does feel somewhat tractor-like in comparison to a nice, smooth, nimble Subaru XV, and the footprint is considerably larger - longer. But utes often are not as practical as the pre-purchase fantasy might suggest. Like, for normal domestic duties, such as grocery shopping … where exactly do the groceries go, with the kids and hubby on board? Ute trays - very hard on the eggs. Unless you want them pre-scrambled. The roll-top is great for added security, but the height limitation is absolute. Bikes can of course go in the tray, or on a towball-mounted carrier. It’s dead easy to fit a roof rack on a dual cab, and mount the kayaks on that. Still, despite the default Shitsville ute infatuation, a Pajero Sport might be better as a family all-rounder. Certainly I’d get a Pajero Sport over a Pajero - given Pajero is as old as me, from a geriatric point of view. (An’d I’m pretty fuckin’ old.) Pajero Sport is - essentially - a Triton ute, re-engineered with a wagon body, plus an eight-speed auto and a coil-sprung rear (both for added refinement). To me, Landcruiser 200 is not that much of an upgrade, in practical terms. Valerie has already built in more than enough operational safety margin for towing with either Bits-o-shitty. Twenty-something per cent (worst case) is an adequate safety margin. To me, buying a Landcruiser 200 means spending double the cash for 400 kilos of extra tow capacity which will never be needed.

Seit November 2017 ist die zweite Modellgeneration des Subaru XV in Deutschland erhältlich. Ihr charakteristische Design resultiert aus der gezielten Kombination sportlich-eleganter und robuster Elemente – ganz im Sinne der Subaru-Designphilosophie „Dynamic x Solid“. Wir haben den neuen XV mal näher betrachtet – und natürlich auch gefahren! Darum geht es diesmal!Subaru hat die Pressemappe zum aktuellen XV mit „Subaru XV: Crossover-SUV in Reinkultur“ betitelt. Das ist so gut, da muss ich nicht noch selbst eine Überschrift erfinden. Und - die Formulierung passt, denn der XV verbindet das Beste zweier Welten: Sportliche Eleganz zum einen, den Komfort einer Limousine mit dem robusten Charakter und der hohen Funktionalität eines Allrounders zum anderen.  In der neuen, der zweiten XV Modellgeneration kommen ein nochmals erhöhter Fahrspaß und eine erweiterte Sicherheitsausstattung dazu.  Power und Drive!    Wer sich einen Subaru XV kaufen will, der kann zwischen zwei kraftvollen Benziner-Boxermotoren wählen. Einem 1,6 Liter Vierzylinder mit 84 kW/114 PS sowie einem 2,0 Liter mit 115 kW/156 PS. Wir hatten den größeren der beiden Motoren an Bord, serienmäßig kombiniert mit einem überarbeiteten Lineartronic-Getriebe. Ich bevorzuge den vollautomatischen Gangwechsel, wer mag, kann aber mit dem manuellen Siebengang-Modus auch selbst schalten. Der Durchschnittsverbrauch liegt bei 6,9 Litern je 100 Kilometer, der CO2-Ausstoß beträgt 155 g/km. Mit dem Zweilitermotor ist der XV 194 km/h schnell, Tempo 100 wird in 10,4 Sekunden erreicht. Der Subaru XV verfügt serienmäßig über den permanenten Allradantrieb Symmetrical AWD.  Erstmals hat der XV das Allradmanagement-System X-Mode, das Fahrten bei widrigen Bedingungen noch sicherer macht, an Bord.  Es koordiniert Motormanagement, Allradantrieb, Bremskraft und andere Funktionen und gewährleistet beste Traktion.  68 Sekunden Die Kosten!Den Subaru XV gibt es in sechs unterschiedlichen Motor- und Ausstattungskombinationen. Der Einstiegspreis für den günstigsten XV liegt bei 22.980,-- €. Dafür kann man dann den XV 1.6i Trend mit Lineartronic und 84/114 kW/PS sein eigen nennen! Das andere Ende der Preisliste markiert der Subaru XV „Exclusive+“ mit 2,0-Liter-Boxer-Motor mit 115 kW/156 PS und natürlich auch mit Lineartronic für  32.980,- €. Managing Director of Subaru Australia comment on their latest launch and the small SUV market. In 2012Subaru launched the XV onto the Australian market, their smallest car in their current fleet. The latest XV is over 90% changed from the previous model with a few extra off road features but a host of comfort improvements. Subarus are car like in their on-road performance and competent in their off-road capability. Where does the new XV fit in that continuum. Colin Christie is the Managing director of Subaru Australia. A listener called in and asked about buying an SUV. The reason was that he and his partner had two dogs, went camping a bit, also they were surfers so they carried their boards. They have a small SUV - a Subaru XV. But they need something bigger not the least because they are going to have their first child. They need more room in the back for the dogs and a pram. Of course, if you know me, I tried to suggest a station wagon but that didn't gain much traction. They are hovering around a Kia Sportage. Are there in the right ball park? Subaru XV Avventura Urbana. È il concetto adottato da Subaru per descrivere in due parole le caratteristiche salienti della nuova XV, crossover esposto in anteprima mondiale nella versione di serie al recente Salone di Francoforte. XV si posiziona a metà strada tra Impreza e Forester nella gamma delle Pleiadi. Il designer Masahiko Kobayashi è riuscito a confezionare una vettura pratica ed affidabile con paraurti sagomati per penetrare meglio l’aria, il primo montante arretrato e una facilità di accesso a bordo grazie alle soglie delle portiere basse, in un abito davvero attraente che mostra il design delle future Subaru. Nonostante l'elevata altezza da terra (22 cm), il baricentro è il più basso della sua categoria per una guida dinamica e sicura. La visibilità anteriore e posteriore è ottimale, da record i livelli standard di sicurezza come testimoniato dal punteggio di 90% ottenuto nei test Euro Ncap per la protezione dei bambini e le 5 stelle complessive. Inoltre, il motore è stato montato in modo che slitti sotto la cellula di sicurezza in caso di incidente frontale. Tra le altre dotazioni base, 7 airbag, ESP e cerchi in lega smaltati da 17”. Elegante e con un aspetto da SUV, nella prova su strada attorno a Firenze (l’Italia è stata scelta per la presentazione internazionale), la Subaru XV ha mostrato doti di agilità, performance, funzionalità e versatilità fuori dal comune, oltre a dimostrarsi assolutamente rispettosa dell’ambiente. Quest’ultimo elemento è garantito anche dal sistema Stop&Start di serie, dall’inedito cambio a variazione continua LinearTronic con palette al volante (in opzione sui benzina) e da un computer di bordo che fornisce varie informazioni su consumi ed efficienza. La sostenibilità ambientale si deve soprattutto ad una gamma motoristica parsimoniosa. Per l’Europa l’offerta prevede tre propulsori. Il boxer benzina di 1,6 litri da 114 CV, il boxer benzina 2.0 da 150 CV e l’esclusivo boxer TD 2.0 da 147 CV, già rinomato su Forester, Legacy ed Impreza per prestazioni, leggerezza e fluidità (sviluppato esclusivamente per l’Europa). Il motore a gasolio è stato reso più efficiente grazie a varie migliorìe ed è abbinato al cambio manuale a sei rapporti (arriverà anche il CVT). Le emissioni di CO2 sono in generale sotto i 160 g/km e i consumi nel ciclo combinato non vanno oltre i 7 litri/100 km, mentre la trazione integrale Symmetrical AWD Subaru infonde sicurezza in tutte le condizioni stradali, non solo sulla neve, anche grazie all’avanzato telaio Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control. La gamma italiana prevede 2 allestimenti, sul diesel c'è anche l’allestimento Exclusive che aggiunge, tra gli altri, equipaggiamenti quali tetto apribile, sedili elettrici e navigatore satellitare con schermo da 6,1 pollici. All’interno si respira un’atmosfera rilassante all’insegna del lusso e dell’eleganza con largo utilizzo di pelle, metallo e plastiche nobili. Sulle versioni con cambio manuale è infine di serie l’assistenza alla partenza in salita.
