Alexa is in the company of composer, musical director, pianist, arranger and app creator Rowland Braché. Originally from Melbourne, Rowland has worked as an MD for productions such as West Side Story, The Last Five Years, Into the Woods and A Chorus Line. He joined Book Music and Lyrics in London in 2015 and was a finalist for the Stars and Drew Best New Song Prize in 2017. Rowland created the UK's premier female vocal rock group called Rock Goddess and is the creator of the Warble app, which was ranked in the top 50 educational apps.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Warble is an app designed for singers, particularly those in the performing arts industry, who struggle to find suitable repertoire. Singers put their vocal range into the app, and it generates a curated list of songs within their range, addressing the common question of which songs to sing that best suit their voice. The motivation behind creating Warble stems from Rowland's experiences while working at a dance college. Many talented singers attended the college, but as the focus was primarily on dance, their vocal abilities went unexplored. This inspired the idea for an app that empowers singers by helping them discover songs that showcase their voice and provides a platform for exploration. When using the app, you specify your voice type, for example, soprano, alto, baritone or tenor, and then the app gives you songs that correspond to that voice type. Then you can filter through different categories such as decade, artist, composer, musical style and genre. If you're searching for a song for a specific audition, say a 1950s ballad, you can find that through the app quite easily by using the filters. Alternatively, you can utilise the voice range feature by inputting your personal vocal range. For example, if your range spans from G3 to E5, by entering these notes, the app will display all the songs available within that range. Free and premium versions of the app are available on Android and IOS. You can find it by searching Warble in the app store and Google play store.   BEST MOMENTS ‘One of my friends even uses it to find songs for karaoke' ‘I found so many songs that made me think "why haven't I heard this before?"' ‘I want to make Warble a one-stop shop for everything you need'   EPISODE RESOURCES Social Media: @warble_app Instagram: @rowlyb Relevant Links & Mentions: Shows/songs referenced: Kimberly Akimbo; Into the Woods; Six; Defying Gravity (from Wicked) Book, Music & Lyrics: https://www.bookmusicandlyrics.com/ Singing Teachers Talk Podcast: Ep. 55 Teaching Singing for Mental Health and Wellbeing with Cat Ogden Singing Teachers Talk Podcast: Ep 65. In this episode, Mark talks with Kelli Warble, long-time modeler and now works at Arizona State University primarily in physics education. They talk about her early exposure to modeling instruction and the new units for modeling in the middle school math classroom that they're working on, including this summer's bite-size workshops in middle school math. They also talk about several of Kelli's top tips for teaching in the modeling classroom - most of which would be excellent tips for any classroom. Guests Kelli Warble Kelli Warble became hooked on teaching after securing a part-time job running mathematics and science activities for 2nd through 9th graders at an after-school program in central Phoenix. She received early exposure to physics education research via the Methods of Teaching Physics course at Arizona State University, which was (and still is) anchored in Modeling Instruction pedagogy. In 1994, Kelli started teaching mathematics and physics in the Phoenix metropolitan area. She spent 18 years as a high school teacher, primarily at Title I schools. As a high school teacher, Kelli constantly strived towards integrating the Modeling Instruction pedagogy embedded in her science courses into her mathematics courses as well. In fall 2012 she became the full-time Physics Teacher in Residence for Arizona State University. At Arizona State, Kelli currently teaches courses focused on physics education, runs the Learning Assistant program, and is a member of the APS IDEA team focused on diversity and inclusion initiatives. Kelli is also consulting on a new initiative, funded by the Arizona STEM Acceleration Project, to develop curricular materials for Modeling in Middle School Mathematics. She currently serves on the board of the American Modeling Teachers Association as past president, and is also on the board of the American Association of Physics Teachers as president elect. Website | Twitter | Discord: Kelli W#4784 Highlights [5:12] Kelli Warble "One of the ones that we're working on is a modeling workshop in middle school mathematics. ...and we will be leading our first workshops this June 2023 in Mesa, Arizona." TRANSCRIPT OF AUDIO From the Cumberland Gap to the Atlantic Ocean, this is Virginia Water Radio for the weeks of May 9 and May 16, 2022.   This episode from is part of a series this year of episodes related to trees and shrubs. MUSIC – ~14 sec – instrumental. That's part of “New Spring Waltz,” by the late Madeline MacNeil, who was a well-known and highly regarded musician based in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. Each new spring brings a chance to focus on the life cycles of wildlife.  This mid-spring episode of Water Radio explores some connections among nesting birds, trees, and water.  Have a listen for about 30 seconds to three mystery sounds, and see if you know these three bird species who nest in trees near water, either always or at least sometimes.  And here's a hint: you'll be singing a melodious trill, if you hit this mystery out of the park. SOUNDS  - 29 sec. If you guessed two warblers and an oriole, you're right!  And you get bodacious bird bragging rights if you recognized, first, the Prothonotary Warbler; second, the Northern Parula, also a kind of warbler; and third, the bird for which Baltimore's baseball team is named, the Baltimore Oriole.  All three of these songbirds are found in Virginia in the spring and summer breeding season.  During that period, the Prothonotary Warbler is common in Virginia's central and southern Coastal Plain and can occasionally be found in some other parts of the Commonwealth; the Baltimore Oriole is common outside of the Coastal Plain; and the Northern Parula is common statewide.  The three species show a range of attachment to water-side trees as their nesting habitat.  The Prothonotary Warbler is particularly known for nesting in cavities in trees around water; in fact, the bird is sometimes called the “Swamp Warbler” in the southeastern United States.  The Northern Parula typically nests in trees along rivers and wetlands, especially in areas where it can find the materials it prefers for making its hanging nests: Spanish Moss or a kind of stringy lichen; this bird is also known to make nests out of debris left in trees after floods.  The Baltimore Oriole is the least water-attached of these three species, being found nesting high in trees in many areas outside of deep woods, including parks and yards; however, streamsides are among the species preferred areas for the bird's fibrous, hanging nests. If you're near streams, rivers, or wetlands and you see or hear any of these three birds, look to nearby trees for cavities or hanging materials that may be harboring the birds' next generation. Thanks to Lang Elliott for permission to use the bird sounds, from the Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs.  Thanks also to Janita Baker of Blue Lion Dulcimers and Guitars for permission to use Madeline MacNeil's music, and we close with about 25 more seconds of “New Spring Waltz.” MUSIC – ~26 sec – instrumental. For the Fourth of July, I wanted to get an all American interview about banding together with friends regarding our favorite cars in car clubs. I talked to two guests, Brian Little and previous show guest Doug Warble (episode 357) from the Susquehanna Valley GTO Club, which is a Chapter of the GTO Association of America. It's 80+ members strong! They came on to talk about starting and running a car club and growing it's membership. It turns out the techniques to growing ANY organization apply....and it all comes down to the the "want to" to see it happen. It’s time to blow this popsicle stand, so bring Maris a machine gun, and turn Warble loose, because they’re all out of bubblegum, and eat pieces of crap like these for breakfast!

Warble was created by Carolyn Holliday, Founder after personally experiencing the pain of a bad boss.  She didn't believe she could turn to HR or higher level executives to help her.  She was faced with two options: 1.  She could continue to suffer and incur obstruction and targeting while my boss now attempted to dismantle my reputation, or 2. She could walk away taking her self-respect, experience, and reputation with her.  She chose option 2.  This was the inspiration for Warble.  Warble is designed to help companies identify people problems before they negatively impact corporate culture and revenues.  This week our guest from Warble will be Jerry Moyer, who joined Warble, Inc in January 2018 to help deliver on its mission - helping companies identify people problems before they negatively impact corporate culture and revenues. Through Warble’s web-based service, employees around the US can give anonymous feedback about co-workers or leaders who are exhibiting harmful or disruptive behavior that is impacting culture, productivity, or employee well-being.  We will be asking Jerry to talk to us about: The Warble Founder's StoryWhat is Warble? How does Warble work?Who uses Warble? How does a company know they got a Warble, and what usually happens? Any weird Warble stories to share?  @DrivethruHR @MikeVanDervort @CUEincsa @RobinSchooling @WarbleInc

This weeks interview is Doug Warble with the Susquehanna Valley GTO club. They'll be hosting the GTOAA National Meet June 26-30, 2018 Valley Forge, PA. Doug grew up around cars and when his dad purchased a GTO "parts car" his life changed to revolve around Pontiacs. He is a fountain of information and I dared to ask him about his favorite obsession. The GTOAA was founded in 1979 by Tony Bastion for the restoration, preservation and enjoyment of GTOs. The first meet was in Indianapolis Indiana and has grown nationwide. The GTOAA now boasts 4000 members across the US. The organization recently started spot lighting the regional chapters and boosting them on the national web site and Facebook. This action has significantly increased it's membership and should make for a great turnout at the national meet.
