Alrinthea Carter and Natalie have two huge things in common, they are both eldest daughters in their families and capricorns. Eldest daughters are known for having a high sense of responsibility and a need to please those around them. Capricorns are the astrological signs that are most known for being loyal, ambitious, and hardworking. Natalie and Alrinthea will go through key moments in their lives where being either an eldest daughter or Capricorn shaped their experiences, identities within their families, and their viewpoints on who they are as people.Support the ShowMake sure you have subscribed to us on Patreon! It is good to see us doing another Wicked themed episode, isn't it? Julia Washington (Prose and Glow) is back to give special focus to the character Galinda in the 2024 hit movie, Wicked. Galinda the Good? Are we sure about that? Glinda has been raising quite the internet buzz about whether or not she's the movie's main villain or just a girl who wouldn't take one more scary step because she just wasn't ready. While dissecting Julia's reaction to Galinda, Natalie and her will also discuss white women's role in Patriarchy, the 2024 election, and what happens when you align yourself too closely to Patriarchy in order to keep yourself safe. Today, we are holding space for the 2024 film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Wicked. Chris Derosa (Fixing Famous People) is back on the podcast to talk about what it felt like to sit through Wicked once….twice….possibly three times and be riveted at the return of talent and magic in theaters. We will honor the feelings we had to make room for when Defying Gravity was sung. The press tour and the reactions to the film will be analyzed We will also bring into question why it gets so hard for us to celebrate a film that is being championed by two women who are unafraid to show their true emotions about female friendship and the power behind their latest project.. Julia has been creating content about dating herself and doing activities that you would find in a standard Rom Com to try and find her ideal relationship. Her and Natalie will discuss how the dating landscape has changed as women's expectations for relationships and dating have evolved as they do things like de-centering men and honing in on their own independence and power. Natalie is joined by her friend Shanaz to get her thoughts straight on the Netflix docu-series, America's Sweethearts Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. After a casual watch of the show, Natalie was convinced that DCC and the series was a great work of women supporting other women and her ideal type of feminism. It took a lot of people, including Shanaz, to get her to watch it again and see the sinister misogyny lurking behind the pretty facade. Shanaz and Natalie will talk about a lack of body diversity, low pay, women being in competition with one another, women being a commodity for men, and other ways misogyny presents itself within DCC.Make sure you have subscribed to us on Patreon! A word from the founder: My name is Tara Fountain, and I am the founder of PURPLE Women, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. In 2011, the Lord led my family and I to Loganville, GA from CT. And I knew it was with great purpose and also knew I had to just be obedient and trust God in the unknown. So, about a year later, God started to birth a great passion within me for his daughters. I mean, this was a strong desire as if they were my daughters. He then gave me a vision of the mission, and my answer was devotedly YES! And it was like I experienced the birthing of a child, locking eyes with it, wanting to protect it, and felt an unspeakable feeling of joy. It was the best feeling I have ever felt in my life. I believe I even let out a scream of such excitement. It was truly a spiritual birthing experience. God then surrounded me with a group of women who believed in the mission and shared the same passion. We then started meeting and planning. I just knew this was about to take off. In the midst of God forming PURPLE Women, my husband wasn't having the same experience of GA as I was. He really started to miss family and CT. We then made the decision to go back to CT. This truly broke my heart. I have this group of women alongside me, ready to see the vision come to pass and I have to now tell them I'm leaving. I tried to make the best out of the situation by telling them nothing has to change, we can continue to move forward with everything and that I'll just be out of state and can do things from afar. Well, that didn't work. After returning back to CT, it only lasted about a month and everyone went their separate ways. It took a long talk with God and a lot of praying for me to come to peace with this situation. It wasn't long after returning home that my husband and I both realized that we wanted to return to GA. So, the plan was to get into a job that we could transfer to GA with. We did just that and fast forward 10 years, we had 2 cars filled driving back to GA. At this time, PURPLE Women was not in my thoughts or plans really. The desire was still there subconsciously but that's where it stayed. In January of 2022, I was sitting in my room on my bed writing down some goals and visions for the new year. I then started feeling those birthing pains again and I instantly was like, is this for real, are you sure Lord? With all types of emotions: doubt, fear, excitement, and joy all in one. But then I remembered my Yes, and then the confidence came and then the reassurance that I was chosen for this came. I then started to ask the Lord where do I start, do I reach out to the same women I was with before? I didn't feel led to reach back out to them. I then instantly felt in my spirit to start at women's shelters. I was like okay Lord you're going to have to talk with my husband about that one and give him peace with me going to women's shelters. Then I started researching women's shelters and Athens was coming up as I searched but still, nothing resonated with me. I then just told the Lord, you lead and I'll follow. During this time, I had started my health & life coaching business as well as my bath & body business. Which, led me to seek out vendor opportunities to market my businesses. I applied to several markets and shows. I then got accepted into Athens Farmers Market. I was very excited about this new journey and couldn't wait to start selling my products. So, on my second market day, this woman comes up to my table and starts having some small talk with my husband and I. I knew there was an agenda with her I just didn't know what. She then buys a product and then goes into telling us that she is going up to sing. The Athens Farmers Market has live entertainment. We said okay we'll be listening out for you. She sang beautifully. As the market was ending my husband went to go grab him and I something to drink and he had to pass the woman to get there. As he was passing her, she asked him to come over, so he did and she asks him "Do you think your wife would mind coming down to my women's shelter and speaking to the women?" My husband's face lit up and he came and told me, and I was blown away. I was like Lord you are something else. It was so divine and every time I visited her women's shelter myself and the women experienced the deep love that God has for his daughters. God had us planted at a church in Loganville, that was an hour away from where we lived. At this church was women that was appointed to be destiny helpers for PURPLE Women, believing in the mission and sharing the same passion. Our Mission is to connect with and inspire women to live empowered lives through discovering and following God's predestined purpose to thrive as prudent, unique, reverent, powerful, loving, and esteemed women. And here is our vision; As women today, we are faced with the pressures to be perfect in our appearance, in our homes, and in the world around us. As we put our focus on this perfect image, we are masking what's truly going on. We are trying to cover up the hurt, loneliness, abandonment, divorce, loss, depression, oppression, abuse, rejection and uncertainties. Our goal at Purple Women is to teach women that our God is a God of restoration. He will restore every area of your life. Not to where it used to be, not to where you imagined it would be but to where it is predestined to be. Join us on this mission to restore all women, from young to the old, whom God loves so much! With the passion of God, we are on a mission to restore all of the King's daughters! Our reality tv historian, Annie Sieg, joins the show today to talk about the flop that was Vanderpump Rules season 11. It didn't take us long to realize that this season would not be delivering us the girl power season of our dreams were we abandoned trying to see Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz as good people who deserve audiences. Instead, we were delivered a season of any type of misogyny you could see in your everyday life. We had women be expected to the do the emotional and mental labor to make men feel better about their actions. It was a season where women spent more time disrespecting one another's boundaries then lending a helping hand. And it was worst of all, a season that tried to center and put on a pedestal the very men who were hurting the women of the series. We wanted better, Bravo. How did we fall for men who don't like us? How often did I wake up and realize I was in a love triangle? Natalie is joined by the hosts of the podcast To All the YA I've Loved Before for this week's episode! Kaycee and Ashley explore the young adult literature millenials consumed such as Sweet Valley High, Gossip Girl, Dear America, and other young adult literature that was aimed specifically at young girls. Natalie and her two guests will have some fun reminiscing about their favorite teen book series while also deep diving on the weird messages those books gave them as young pre-teen girls. There will also be some recommendations of some YA Lit you can check out to see how the genre has evolved to be more inclusive and less misogynistic. Make sure you have subscribed to us on Patreon! Natalie is joined by Genevieve and Beatrice (Soul Meets Body) to talk about how their band Soul Meets Body and the music they are creating fights against gender norms, stigmas against mental health, and having negative thoughts about your own body. Topics of discussion will include how beauty standards hold us back from trying new things, the stupid ways we try to gender the process of making music and art, how illogical it is to spread hate instead of hype, and the cost misogyny has on audiences who love music. There will also be personal stories about how misogyny has affected the artistry of Natalie, Genevieve, and Beatrice. In 2024 we don't even bat an eyelid if a woman wears pants, or slacks as they used to be called, but it was a very different scene in 1933. At the time, women wearing pants was deemed immodest, unbecoming and unfeminine.
Pride. Greed. Lust. Envy. Gluttony. Wrath. Sloth. Are these sins deadly or are they the very things misogyny tries to keep women and other marginalized voices from so they never come into their own power? Karen from the podcast Deconversion Therapy is here to help us answer that very question. Natalie and Karen will discuss really ridiculous ways misogyny tries to make us feel guilty for enjoying ourselves or just wanting better for ourselves. Why did they ever tell us sticking up for ourselves and using our voice was a sin? Hmmm I wonder.Make sure you have subscribed to us on Patreon! Did he use ChatGPT to script his dates? What is his responsibility to udience members to make me believe he has the emotional investment needed for this kind of experiment?Trevor: Trevor had us heartbroken and ready to root for him. Natalie and Kristen will talk about the double standards Kristen has observed as a professional royal watcher. There will also be conversation around how we help bring marginalized voices to the table, the vulnerability it takes to stick up for yourself and your talents, and the emotional/mental labor that is involved when we are constantly asked to model to men how to not be misogynist and how we expect respect when it comes to the things we know.Make sure you have subscribed to us on Patreon! JD Ross (Weirdwide) did in-depth research for an episode on his podcast about incels and incel culture. After listening, Natalie knew this was a topic that needed to be covered because who is a better example of people living comfortably with misogyny than the incels of the internet? JD and Natalie will discuss how the term incel (involuntary celibate) was coined and how forums like Reddit allowed for men who have violent resentment towards women were able to form a community online. The entitlement that is featured in incel men will also be discussed as well as how their culture revolves around fantasies of violence against women, getting even, resenting that they're undesirable, and sometimes carrying out their violent thoughts.Natalie will also express her fears on how misogynistic or incel mindsets are starting to become mainstream and JD will validate her fear by talking about the well-known men and leaders who help incels perpetuate their warped beliefs.Make sure you have subscribed to us on Patreon! Ellen Moore (The Slut Show with Ellen Moore) joins Natalie for another fantastic conversation about sexuality. This time, the women will explore how ADHD affects how you experience sex and intimate relationships. They will share their own experiences with how their brain functions during moments of pleasure, both inside and outside of the bedroom. Julia Washington (Pop Culture Makes Me Jealous) is back this week to discuss how misogyny makes it incredibly hard for women and other marginalized groups to experience joy. Natalie and Julia discuss how women's hobbies and interests aren't taken seriously and how happiness has been weaponized against women making them feel uncomfortable when they are experiencing pride within themselves. Other topics include how racism, classism, and fatphobia also contribute to marginalized joy. Chris Derosa (Fixing Famous People) is a tv producer who has worked with some of your favorite housewives! Natalie dives back into the Bravo-verse to pick Chris's brain about the value The Real Housewives franchise has brought to television and how they are the representation we have of older women in media. From health scares, unemployments, jail sentences, divorces, and other life hurdles, The Real Housewives has given a platform for women to talk about their life stories. The two friends also touch on how The Real Housewives may promote this idea that we always have to keep up with everyone around us and stunt for Instagram, but they also offer an example of people who are confident enough to not need to race their peers to the top. Natalie and guest Julia Washington let listeners in on one of their privately most talked about topics. This is an episode designed around the idea of what makes it hard to be a deprogrammed woman who has to live in a world where other women uphold misogynistic beliefs or Patriarchal standards. The women go into what makes them frustrated when it comes to living a life that isn't centered around men but living in a world where centering men is very much the status quo.
