This week it's a 4.5 hour special edition of Regional Rasslin, as we present a special 3-Part episode all rolled into one MEGA edition of the program. Information so fun and detailed that we wanted to share it with the territory era fans, as we sift through Ole Anderson's book "Inside Out: How Corporate America Destroyed Professional Wrestling". Bob Roop discusses the business practices of Ole Anderson and Jim Barnett in Georgia Championship Wrestling in the early 1980s. We go deep behind the scenes as first, we discuss Ole's expansion into Ohio, Michigan, and West Virginia. How it all came about, dealing with the Sheik & Vince McMahon Sr., the power of cable TV, making syndicated TV deals, the cities & average revenue! Then, we dive into Ole's thoughts on promoter Jim Barnett, accusations on Barnett skimming money off the top across all the cities, crooked State Athletic Commissions, Fire Marshals. From there we talk the many issues between Ole Anderson and Jim Barnett. Ole's accusations of Jim Barnett stealing money from the Georgia territory, Anderson removing Barnett of his financial "duties", and how the slow takeover of Vince McMahon begins! Finally, we discuss the Vince McMahon buyout of Georgia Championship Wrestling, the wrath of Jim Barnett, Ole Anderson's response, the Brisco "Blood Oath", the end of an era at WTBS, Black Saturday, & more!FOR MORE 70s & 80s WRESTLING HISTORY DISCUSSED WITH BOB ROOP, PLEASE TUNE INTO "THE WRESTLING STOOP" PODCAST, new episodes drop Thursdays at midnight (est).Ole's book is available on Amazon, and through Scott Teal at Crowbar Press at https://www.crowbarpress.com/cbp-books/01-oa.htmlPlease Subscribe to our Patreon to help pay the bills, https://www.patreon.com/wrestlecopiaIncludes the $5 “All Access” Tier & $9 "VIP Superfan" Tier featuring our VIDEO CASTS, Patreon Watch-Along Series, our insanely detailed show notes (for the Grenade, Monday Warfare, Regional Rasslin, Puro Academy, & Retro Re-View), Early Show Releases! It's not often a person in wrestling starts at the absolute bottom and works his way to the absolute top. That's exactly what Teddy Long spent decades doing. It all started for him in the late 1980s. A young Long ran errands for wrestlers in Jim Crocket Promotions, which was broadcast weekly on WTBS out of Atlanta. He would also set up the ring before the matches. And quickly, he got his first promotion when he was given a referee shirt. “I went out and the first match I did was Ron Bass and Black Bart. They were in a Texas Death Match,” Long said. But unfortunately for the young Long, he didn't quite understand the pre-scripted nature of pro wrestling, specifically when the wrestlers started bleeding.

Originally from Georgia, Arn Anderson (real name Martin Lunde) was billed as from Minnesota when he teamed with Old Anderson to form the “Minnesota Wrecking Crew” for Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. But unlike many wrestlers of that era Anderson's weekly wrestling show was the national one that was broadcast on WTBS, one of the early channels that was on cable systems in most of the country. That meant Anderson very quickly became known all over the country.

The BBC Wartime Broadcasting Service (WTBS) is a little-known piece of Cold War history that would have been for many the last human voice they heard after a nuclear attack on the UK. Iain started work for the BBC in 1988 and due to the pressure on training space, was trained in the nuclear bunker at BBC Wood Norton. After training he went to Broadcasting House in London where he first encountered some of the technical infrastructure the WTBS would use. Iain did a spell in the main control room and recalls the red phone which was the link from Whitehall to initiate the BBC War Book. Over time Iain has collected knowledge on all aspects of the WTBS and he shares details of where it would have been broadcast from, what would have been heard, and who, in the event of an attack, would have descended into the bunkers to broadcast it. Iain also delivers a talk on the subject. I did have the remote learn their commands and they worked fine.  I found selecting activities to be a bit confusing likewise I felt switching between devices was cumbersome.  For the price that this remote costs I would expect that an activity with a TV, streamer, and receiver would automatically select the appropriate buttons on the remote.  Programming the remote is too cumbersome and non-intuitive Cable Turns 75 this Month The beginning of cable TV goes back to June of 1948 when John Walson set up an antenna on top of a mountain near the city of Mahanoy City, PA. From there he strung a cable down the mountain to a point in the city that allowed TV signals to be received by homes that connected to it. That essentially was the first cable service in the United States. Believe it or not, that “cable” company is still running today. 1948 - FCC freezes new broadcasting licenses and cable grows considerably. 1962 - FCC prevents cable companies from importing signals from far away, halting the industry in its tracks.  1972 - HBO is launched as the nation's first pay-TV network. Cable is back in business! 1976 - WTBS is launched. broadcasting from Atlanta and using satellites to become the nation's first superstation. The Atlanta Braves gain fans from all over the country. 1984 - Congress passes the Cable Communications Policy Act, loosing restrictions and appropriating funds for continued growth. Cable grew so rapidly that by 1990, there were more than 50 million subscribers across the country and at least 79 networks, an increase from just 28 at the beginning of the decade. Some of the networks that launched during this time included: Showtime Nickelodeon,  USA Network, ESPN, CNN, MTV, The Disney Channel, AMC, FX 1990 - Cable subscribers reach 50 million and there are at least 79 networks available to consumers. 1992 - Congress passes the Cable Television Consumer Protection Act that freezes prices and requires cable companies to carry local channels for free. 2000 - 2007 - The average cable subscriber has access to more than 50 channels. To fuel growth, things such as high-definition broadcasting, DVR service, on-demand programming, premium channels, interactive guides, and much more became new features and eventually standards. Cable companies begin to add high-speed internet which may have hastened the cable company's demise as a TV provider. It also may be what saves them as a viable company. 2007 - Netflix launches its streaming platform, setting the stage for the current upheaval and uncertainty in the industry.
