John D. Groendyke is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Groendyke Transport, Inc., the fifth-largest motor carrier of bulk commodities serving the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico.It all began on July 12, 1932, when John's father, Harold Groendyke, transported his first load of kerosene from Borger, Texas, to Beaver, Oklahoma. He drove a two-axle Ford truck equipped with a 3,000-gallon tank mounted on a homemade chassis.  That was the start of the tank truck industry and Groendyke Transport Company.John received his Bachelor of Science in Business from Oklahoma State University and his law degree from the University of Oklahoma. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, and after a two-year tour of duty, he returned to Enid, Oklahoma, to join the family trucking operation.In 2024 John received a Lifetime Achievement Award from National Tank Truck Carriers.In his oral history interview, John talks about his father building a truck, the effect of technology on the trucking industry, and his extensive car collection on the podcast and oral history website VoicesOfOklahoma.com.

The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services teams have continued to serve in the Texas panhandle as firefighters work to contain the wildfires that have ravaged the area. As residents return, many to homes that are completely lost, trained Emotional and Spiritual Care workers are on hand to encourage, pray and listen to those devastated by the tragic situation.   More than 400 homes and businesses have been destroyed by the fires, and residents are just beginning the physically and emotionally challenging task of inspecting their properties and seeking resources to support the lengthy process of recovery. On Friday afternoon, the police were alerted to a disturbance in the 1200 block of Indiana Street. The situation escalated when the suspect fled the scene with the female victim, suspected to be taken against her will, as the Borger police were dispatched around 3:40 p.m. A vehicle matching the suspect's description was soon spotted by officers, leading to a pursuit towards Fritch. The chase came to a head near the Hutchison-Potter County line where, according to Police Chief Donnie Davis, the male driver was shot with a firearm found inside the vehicle. Reports from ABC 7 News confirmed that it was the victim who had managed to fire the shot. The suspect, wounded but alive with non-life threatening injuries, was rushed to an Amarillo hospital. The woman, having survived the ordeal, was evaluated at a local hospital. As the investigation unfolds, details such as the suspect's identity and specific charges remain under wraps.
