Appreciative Rest is Taking in and Appreciating the beauty around you. (Phase III of The UnVeiling Method - 7 Forms of Rest Other Than Sleep) Creative rest practice is the active form of appreciative rest where you are creating by painting, writing, sewing, singing, playing an instrument etc. Signs of Appreciative Rest Depletion: ● focus on the needs of others and don't consider your needs a priority. ● talk yourself out of self-care as if you don't deserve being cared for. ● feel you are being selfish whenever you consider doing something for yourself. ● often feel your work is not of value or that others do not appreciate your contributions. ● find it difficult to enjoy things in nature or in your environment. How are you being creative in your life? What's your favorite way to express your creativity? How do you feel when you are being creative? What do you notice when you haven't spent time creating like you'd like to? Myrko Thum quote: “The present moment is the only thing where there is no time. It is the point between past and future. It is always there and it is the only point we can access in time. Everything that happens, happens in the present moment. Everything that ever happened and will ever happen can only happen in the present moment. It is impossible for anything to exist outside of it.” Active forms of creative rest allow us to be in the present moment and to allow space for our mind, body and higher self to align. Spend 10 - 15 minutes on your chosen creative rest. Set a timer on your phone if that helps. At the end of your creative rest, use the reflection questions in the notes below to guide you further. Reflection Questions for after the creative rest time: What did you notice about how that 10 - 15 minutes felt, was it fast or slow? How much did you create vs how much you expected yourself to create in this time? Was it more or less? What did you notice about your thoughts before you began and now? How do you feel now? Loving side quest for this week: Take a moment to schedule in 10 min to spend in creative rest this week. In Episode 163 of Beyond Chronic Burnout, we're closing out our three-part August series on "Tools & Resources to Use When You're in Burnout to Manage Your Energy" with a groundbreaking conversation. Our guest today is Tomer Aharoni, the co-founder and CEO of Nagish, an innovative app that's revolutionizing communication for individuals with hearing challenges by providing real-time captions for phone calls and in-person conversations—all while maintaining user privacy. Join host Carole Jean Whittington as she delves into Tomer's journey from being a software engineer at Bloomberg and researcher at Columbia University to creating a tool that's not only making communication more accessible but also helping neurodivergent and disabled individuals manage one of the most common energy drains: auditory processing delays and disorders. In this episode, Tomer shares how Nagish can be a game-changer for those who experience burnout, especially when the simple act of making a phone call feels like an overwhelming task. Whether you're someone who struggles with auditory processing or just hates making phone calls, this conversation is packed with insights on how to reclaim your energy and break through communication barriers. Tune in to learn more about the connection between accessible communication and burnout management, and discover how tools like Nagish can support your journey to a more balanced and energized life.
In Part 2 of our 3-part series, "Tools & Resources to Help When You're in Burnout," we dive deep into the challenges neurodivergent and disabled adults face during job transitions. Often, burnout is already in full swing after completing that degree, project, or job, and many of us don't even realize it. At 18, 21, 40, or 80 years old, being autistic or ADHD doesn't change, though those around us sometimes forget. Moreover, we often fail to acknowledge pivotal moments of transition and the immense power they hold. In this episode, Jackie Coursey—also known as the Queen of Unstuck—joins me to discuss these transition challenges, whether in life or work. Jackie will share her strategies, including what she calls a "self-care sandwich," how to approach a transition if you're currently in one, ways to earn an income during the in-between, and key considerations to set yourself up for success in the next chapter. Don't miss this insightful conversation packed with practical advice to help you navigate your transitions with confidence and care.
