Tommy Dewey is best known for playing Alex Cole on the Hulu series “Casual” for five seasons. This year, two movies benefit from his talents—the Jason Reitman ensemble comedy “Saturday Night”, and Caroline Lindy's romantic/horror/comedy “Your Monster,” where he brilliantly plays the titular character. On this episode, he talks about what went into deciding on the proper mixture of absurdity and tenderness for that special role. He explains why, if a comedy script connects with him, he “maybe reads it once and stay the hell away from it.” Plus how writing can help you as an actor, the increased pressure of 3-dimensionality the higher you are on a call sheet, and much more. Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast from Filmmaker Magazine. In each episode, host Peter Rinaldi invites one working actor to do a deep dive into their unique process, psychology, and approach to the craft. Follow Back To One on Instagram

SummaryWhat should we think of when we consider organization integrity issues? How do you distinguish between positive and negative forms of power? How do we nurture power for organizational integrity? These are the fairly complex questions that we address in the podcast today. In this NGO Soul+Strategy episode, I interview Bhavika Patel, Senior Adviser for Equalities and Inclusion at Oxfam Great Britain, and Alex Cole-Hamilton, independent consultant and one of the founders of the Power and Integrity Initiative, on their work on positive power for organizational integrity.Bhavika's Bio:Currently the Senior Adviser for Equalities and Inclusion at OxfamBrings HR, culture, and EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusion) experience, with practical experience in understanding power in relation to EDI and organizational ways of workingLed on HR issues in Oxfam, and has been a Talent Advisor at UNICEFMSC in applied positive coaching psychology Alex's Bio:Independent consultant, advising boards and executives on ethics and integrity risks and related decision-making frameworksFormer head of Ethics and Compliance, Oxfam Great BritainFormer head of Corporate Responsibility, OxfamFormer ethical trade project manager, The Body ShopWe discuss: The Power & Integrity Initiative is focused on UK-specific agencies; it aims to complement, but not overlap, with other ongoing activities, such as the RINGO project, Pledge4Change, #ShiftThePower etc.Concrete examples of measures and policy areas related to organizational integrity: safeguarding, anti-racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), environmental sustainability practices, anti-corruptionHow is power perceived in general? And in our sector? How can integrity be understood more holistically, going beyond the classical interpretation of ethics, to look at people's behavior and organizational behavior in relationship to each other? The initiative just went through several Labs to pilot getting to a shared understanding of what power is (not easy!); their write-up on what was learned will be published in late 2023Positive power as a concept comes out of the thinking on transformative power, led by Srilatha Batliwala and others at CREA. It also builds on notions of power with, power within, power for and not just power over (hierarchical or positional or coercive power)Even if power is used with good intention by (in)formal leaders in our sector, whether we like it or not, the impact of white-normed organizational systems and processes is not neutralResources:Website of Power & IntegrityAlex's WebsiteBhavika's LinkedIn ProfileAlex's LinkedIn Profile YouTube video of this podcastClick here to subscribe to be alerted when new podcast episodes come out or when Tosca produces other thought leadership pieces. tosca@5oaksconsulting.org You can find Tosca's content by following her on her social media channels: Twitter

Dealing with disinformation tops the agenda for all kinds of organizations working on all kinds of issues. We're bombarded by fake news, foreign propaganda, consumer scams and other kinds of deliberate disinformation that make it hard to sort out fact from fiction. Alex Cole has been on the frontlines of information wars around the world. He says America is “under a disinformation assault from within and outside our borders.” The “urgency to counter this threat can't be overstated.” And “convenient solutions” are hard to find. Alex is Vice President of External Affairs at Internews, an international nonprofit that believes “everyone deserves trustworthy news and information.” Internews has 30 offices worldwide and supports independent media in 100 countries, reaching millions of people with information they can trust. At the global nonprofit IREX, he helped organizations in Ukraine and other countries fight back against the onslaught of disinformation from the Putin regime in Russia. On this episode of Achieve Great Things, we'll talk about real solutions—practical steps your organization can take to fight one of the most important challenges facing the field of communications—and democracy itself.

The crypto contagion continues. So far this year we have seen the debacle of the Terra-Luna ecosystem, as well as bankruptcies among Celsius, Voyager, and now FTX. Solvency is being tested with many of these centralized crypto exchanges. The recent collapse of FTX has shown there was an obvious mismanagement of funds and didn't resemble any protocols around risk management. It also highlights the counter-party risk among crypto exchanges and why the motto is always "don't trust but verify". What future for the Scottish Lib Dems? As Nicola Sturgeon recently declared her intention to hold a second independence referendum without Westminster's consent, I spoke with Alex Cole-Hamilton, leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, to discuss the future of the union. Can the Scottish Lib Dems benefit from the recent wins that their English counterparts have had lately? How will the Scottish Lib Dems tailor their electoral strategy under a Truss premiership?
Alot of crazy baseball stuff to catch up on this week! Real stirrups are making a come back, sort of. We address a mis-guided critique and look forward to next year's Hall of Fame eligible players, hint, it doesn't take very long, as well as review the Derek Jeter documentary so far and discuss what the most common jersey number is throughout the history of baseball. We then remember Alex Cole's limited time in the big leagues as it corresponded with the movie Major League before open some 2003 Topps in this week's version of Wax Pack Heroes. Me and Alex discuss our best moments from the Bitcoin Conference in Miami. We explained the freedom Bitcoin brings for international countries. Korea, Africa, and Venezuela all deal with fallacies with government policies and weak monetary policies. Bitcoin helps with these problems by having a sound monetary system that's decentralized and not controlled by anyone. It provides a store of value against currency devaluation. It also can be used as a medium of exchange. More and more institutions are using Bitcoin globally and we highlighted how it helps countries with authoritative regimes. We also spoke on how the U.S could be moving towards a bitcoin standard with more options to use Bitcoin at retail stores to buy items. With the Strike announcement, they are partnering with NCR so everyone has the option to use Bitcoin at most major retail chains, such as McDonald's, Walmart, Best Buy, Chick-Fil-A, etc. If a merchant want's to accept the payment in dollar's, they have the option to convert that Bitcoin into dollar's, if they want Bitcoin, they will get the desired currency they prefer. Which opens the doors for more adoption and the flexibility to move away from using the legacy financial system with Visa and MasterCard. We also discuss the ESG conversation around Bitcoin and it's sustainability for 2022. It's just another challenge that this asset will overcome and we described how there are many alternatives to mining bitcoin with renewables. Such as flare gas, wind, solar, and even hydroelectric. A panel of industry experts joined us for Little Questions Live in front of a studio audience at the RSA in London. On this special edition of the podcast we discuss the relationship between a CAD and the CEO. The panel were Victoria McKenzie Gould (CAD - M&S), Fiona Thorne (Former CAD - Flutter), Alex Cole (Former CAD - Bupa) and Ed Petter (CAD - BT). This fascinating conversation was chaired by Andrew Brown from Apella Advisors and Matthew Wall from Taylor Bennet. During the event there were questions from the audience and our panel discussed a wide range of topics. Ed Petter tells us what he thinks a CEO wants from a corporate affairs director. Victoria McKenzie Gould - CAD at M&S - shares her thoughts on what really annoys a CEO. Alex Cole is the former CAD at Bupa and tells us why she doesn't use the phrase 'brutal honesty', but prefers something else instead (and it's brilliant!), and former CAD at Flutter, Fiona Thorne tells us what annoys a corporate affairs director more than anything else. Summary What is wrong with the current approach to organizational ethics and integrity in NGOs?Why is using a lens of power analysis so helpful to bring INGO governance into focus?Only by looking at the very core of how organizations work, we can begin to achieve the deep and effective change needed across the sector. In this episode, we discuss organizational ethics and integrity concerns in INGOs with Alex Cole-Hamilton, independent consultant.Alex's BioIndependent consultant, advising boards and executives on ethics and integrity risks and related decision-making frameworksFormer head of Ethics and Compliance, Oxfam Great Britain (GB)Former head of Corporate Responsibility, Oxfam GBFormer Ethical Trade project manager, The Body Shop Quotes“At that time, it felt colonial to work in the NGO sector, so I went to work in the private sector instead”“The field of ethics and integrity is quite young in INGOs”“This approach feels big upfront, but will actually make this work more manageable in the medium term” We discussed: Concrete examples of issues that are relevant for INGO's ethics and integrity: environmental footprint; pay equity; anti-modern slavery practices; decolonizing aid; safeguarding, etc.The benefits of categorizing our work on organizational ethics and integrity into three categories: 1) organizational behavior; 2) individual behavior; 3) risk and assurance It is useful to distinguish between the issues relevant to integrity and ethics, and how they need to be operationalized in individual behavior, culture, leadership, the NGO's supply chains, etc.How the steer needs to come from donors as well as those who govern the INGO to redirect some money from direct programming to organizational ethics and integrity practices – especially given the strengths of the ‘overhead myth' How abuse of power is at the root of many violations of integrity, and how a power analysis therefore can be usefully applied by boards. How much thought do you give to the packaging that inevitably comes with your order? Not much? Well, get ready to start looking at it differently. Did you know that, what is affectionately known as “smart packaging” is more than just being able to track your goods with extremely high accuracy? It's much more personal than that. It's about automatically re-ordering goods when you start to get low and enabling your doctor to monitor your parent's pill intake, all without you needing to think about it. It's also about allowing people to know if the Covid-test, or vaccine they're about to take is the real deal or a counterfeit. It's about monitoring the temperature of every single bottle individually. It's about providing companies with a real shot at sustainability. It's about the future. With us this week is Dr. Alex Cole, Head of Strategic marketing for CPI, a leading independent technology innovation center that acts as a catalyst for bringing innovative ideas and research into the marketplace. Join us as we talk about the world of smart packaging, its possibilities and what the future is bound to look like. Learn more about CPI: https://www.uk-cpi.com

This episode of the You and Me Podcast spotlights REAL BRIDE Alexandra Cole, owner of her incredible business 'Flawless', a luxury make-up artistry based in Toronto, Canada as she wed her gorgeous beau Ethan in between the crazy COVID year of restrictions that was 2020.A long distance relationship followed until an unexpected proposal at Alex's grandmothers house cemented their future, A short engagement followed, with Alex ensuring that their wedding fell on her grandparents anniversary - a super important moment for her, and it just so happened with all her vendors falling into place, it was manifested to be.A dreamy idea grew to an amazing minimalist art deco inspired wedding day - sleek and modern to match her grandparents property, a less is more approach. Alex knew that with intimate details highly thought of, they could reduce the additional elements (such as flowers) and really allow their surroundings to shine. COVID came through and changed their plans, like so many others had happen to them during 2020, however Alex suggested that sending out invitations, round by round, helped navigate the guest list reduction, and manage expectations of all involved with their wedding day. This conversation with Alex delves into the advantages of working within the industry, and how to then decide on what to include in your own wedding, the importance of family and tradition and advises future brides to go into your wedding planning journey with an idea of what you want for your day, which will help reduce the indecision and the unknown! CJLO Sports - Episode 3 ft. Alex Cole & Will Power by CJLO Sports
Happy Monday, everyone! This week, Ryan and Alex try the very delectable Old Chub Scotch Ale by Oskar Blues Brewery. Being known as one of the first craft breweries to can their beer, Oskar Blues has been around since 1997. They began canning their craft beer in 2002 and in 2012, they marketed beer that came in resealable aluminum containers. In 2012, they also expanded and opened a secondary location in North Carolina. Oddly enough, Oskar Blues only packages their beers in cans and kegs, never bottles. They are considered to be the largest craft brewery by volume to avoid the usage of glass bottles. They focus largely on the whole can shtick due to cans holding the freshness of the beer better than the glass, as well as eliminating the harmful effects of light. Old Chub has semi-sweet flavors of cocoa and coffee, with a touch of smoke coming from a dash of beechwood-smoked malt added to the beer. We’ll also be talking with Award Winning Brewer and Beer Author, Randy Mosher. Randy’s been homebrewing for over 20 years and always likes to push the boundaries of brewing. He’s also the author of a many beer educational books, and we’re very honored and excited that he took a moment to chat with us. This week on FDB - we learn how not to bake cookies, discover the only thing that would keep us from being best friend’s with Nicholas Cage, educate ourselves with some beer terminology, and more! Now please kick back, and enjoy another sit down with Friends Drink Beer. To support Oskar Blues Brewery and find out more about their other beers, visit: www.oskarblues.com To learn more about Randy Mosher and his vast beer knowledge, visit his website, RandyMosher.com. Also be sure to pick up one of his books and learn about beer for yourself. Our personal favorite is “Tasting Beer: An Insider’s Guide to the World’s Greatest Drink” where you can learn about beer styles, flavor profiles, craft beer trends, and food and beer pairings.
