Starlight Thursdays Episode 202 Welcome Madam Bliss to the series! With over 18 years of DJing she's enjoyed entertaining dance floors at music festivals such as Emissions, Burning Man, Nights of Fire, Rock the Resort, Crystal Mountain and many, many more. This artist, remixer, producer and DJ thrives off the edm bass music scene. She is known to mix all different types of Bass music together to form her own unique sound. Her roots are breakbeats, house, jungle and hip hop. She grew up as a house dancer turned breakdancer who was compelled by the beat. Her roots also run deep with Reggae and dancehall. Over the years a deep love for Dubstep, Drum and Bass and Trap Music formed. Anything Bass heavy and soulful that evokes good feelings is her kind of style. She has released a bunch of tracks. Her work has appeared on We Got This Music, Street Ritual, Shadowtrix, BKoast, Pinecone Moonshine and other labels. . She has been playing guitar and keys since childhood. If your lucky you may even catch her doing one of her breakdance performances in between mixing and scratching! Let's take a closer look in a little interview with Madam Bliss. Why did you get into DJing and music production? I love to dance and I'm addicted to good beats. Where do you currently live? Whitefish, Montana. Is that where you're from originally? No, Media, Pennsylvania(outside of Philadelphia). What inspires you to DJ? Heavy and feel good bass vibrations with soothing intricate and dance worthy sounds. What inspires you about electronic music culture? It inspires me in all aspects of life. I love the feeling when there is a big group of people that come together to share the love of a certain type of music. I love meeting awesome people and working with them on new music or dance moves. It inspires me to be more creative and to move my body in new ways. The energy in electronic music really matches my personality and it inspires me to go further in life. What genres are in your mix? Rooted Dubstep, Bass music, Baltimore Club, Trap, reggae. Can you tell us a little bit about it? This mix was deeply inspired by rooted dubstep and bass music. My 2 favorite genres of music. Now that I live here in Montana in the mountains, it has given me the clarity to really dive into what moves me as an artist and DJ. One of my favorite eras of DJing is when I spun dubstep back in 2009. I made an all vinyl mix called DuBlissious with my favorite hand picked records. Still one of my favorite mixes. This is a continuation of that mix, I even reinvented some of the mixes from the first edition. This mix has a lot of melodic feels with deep bass lines delivered in the most beautiful of transitions. I took old school rooted dubstep and mixed it with more present day basslines, keeping it locked around 140bpm. I carried reggae sounding beats throughout. The beauty of these tunes have put me in a trance when I listen back to this mix, really taking the listener on a journey. This mix includes some of my most favorite 140bpm tunes I've produced myself as well as brand new production that I have yet to release. It also includes some of my favorite tunes that really moved me by other amazing producers. Who are some of the artists in your mix? Cimm, Shlump, Nahlith, Oz, Hamdi, Rakjay, Substrada, Vaski, The Maker, Eva808, Wildabeast, 6Blocc, Madam Bliss, Headland, Merricat Black, Skinny Limbs, G-space, Subscape, Matty G, Tiedye Ky, Pipus, Tsou, Kursa, Hexed X Labs, Chief Kaya, Synkro, MRK1, DJ Sliink, Scuba, M!ngo. We're so glad you shared this mix with us. This one is a special addition to the series and overall fire set. Anything else you want us to know? I want you to know that you are amazing for giving DJs and producers in Montana the chance to share their music with like minded people. I truly appreciate you and your crew!!! Hello all! The Engineer here. Welcome to Episode 88 of the BUDDHA BEATS podcast! I hope you're doing well. Question for you: Do you remember when breakbeats was the new hotness? No? Break-whats? For those who weren't around in the scene when breakbeats were all the rage at the time, check this video out for a small primer (https://youtu.be/B4r0MdBQI6U). The reason for the reference, is that this month's mix is all breaks and bass. This includes genres like Baltimore Bass style, Rave Breaks, Funky Breaks, Ghetto Bass, and others. NOTE!: Some tracks have adult language, so I apologize for that, and you have been warned. That being said, these tracks — like many — take me back to when I first heard, or spun tracks from these genres, and I thought I would share these with you all. Now, what's more important, is that all of the tracks listed here except the last one are by artists on Bandcamp.com. As an artist, it's tough to get people to notice your work, and Bandcamp is a great place to find some of the most creative pieces out there. I wanted to make sure these amazing productions and the artists who brought them to life get to an audience, with me as the conduit. I have included links in the track listing (https://daibutsumusic.com/buddhabeats/episode88), so if you like what you've heard, PLEASE. GO. SUPPORT. THESE. ARTISTS. While there are free tracks on Bandcamp (where you pay what you think the track is worth), please spend a few bucks and help these fine folks out. You'd like to hear more of their music right? Me too. So, let's get them acknowledged, and a few buck towards, bills, gear, services that they need to continue doing what they clearly love doing: making dope music. Daibutsu Music has a store there too, and I love getting an email that lets me know someone purchased my work on the Bandcamp platform. Please share this mix on your social feeds, it is greatly appreciated. Enjoy the mix!
For Episode 72, Shannon sits down with one of the forefathers of Philly Club Music. Meet DJ Sega. The producer and phenomenal DJ has been blaring down sound systems around the world for more than a decade with his hard-hitting high energy club anthems and edits. And he's truly a student of the game.Sega's passion for producing and Djing came at a rough time period in his life. After the death of his grandmother, the Philly native locked into production as a way to process and mourn her loss . But after a few short years of toiling away his musical production software, Sega created something special.Combining the fundamental roots of Baltimore Club and Jersey Club's rhythmic flare, Sega was one of the first producers to craft the Philly Club sound, a fast and energetic genre that rests at 140 BPM, sometimes soaring to 155 BPM.Laden with samples of rock, hip-hop and everything else in between, Sega's infectious beats have had crowds rocking around all the world and now, the producer has been building up a steady following with his weekly DJ Twitch streams and helpful content on producing, streaming and other music related topics.Shannon spoke to the Philly legend about his early days DJing at Philly's famed Jamz Entertainment Center, the emergence of Philly Club, his time with Mad Decent and Sega finally sets the record straight about what really happened between him and Diplo.Tracklist ~DJ Sega - At All (The DJ Sega Remix)DJ Sega - Hey Mr DJ (The DJ Sega Remix)Support the show

We had the pleasure of interviewing John Duff over Zoom video! Singer-Songwriter, Director, & Social Media Influencer John Duff released a new single with the help from his dog (DJ Baby Duff). DJ Baby Duff is a double-Sagittarius short-haired Brussels Griffon. She weighs six pounds and stands at about four apples tall. One day, Baby stepped on John's phone and changed the music - and that’s when John realized: she had a gift and she should become a DJ."I asked her if she wanted to do a song, and she didn’t say anything so, I decided for her. She mainly likes treats. I’m not even sure she’s enjoying this whole process, but that doesn’t matter! I’m a mom and I’m having a lot of fun. The more fame we get, the more treats she gets," said Duff. The song “100% Baby” was written long before Baby made her move to LA. It was originally a mid-tempo bubblegum track, inspired by the word “baby” and it’s over-usage in pop music. When DJ Baby Duff heard the track, she didn’t react at all. She doesn’t enjoy the sound of music, but mama knew what to do - so, John had her inject it with some puppy energy. Very inspired by Duff's love of Baltimore Club music. The music video for “100% Baby" was a collaboration with animator Sqott. John started following his Instagram @sqott after they both met very drunk at a saké bar in the East Village years ago. "He creates the wildest animations - all very similar in style to “100% Baby”. We didn’t want the video to be too sexy, cause she’s so young - and so his colorful larger than life style really felt like a natural fit,” said John. In terms of making the video - the first step was dieting. Baby was going through a rough patch at the top of quarantine. When she first moved to LA she was three pounds, and within a month she was five pounds. That’s nearly doubling in size, which obviously weighed very heavily on her confidence (pun very much intended). Baby trained with an incredible dog trainer, Kirstin McMillan - as Baby wanted to perform all of her own stunts. We then worked with a photographer, Davide Laffe, to capture her best angles as she dazzled everyone on set with her shear athleticism, beauty, and charisma. The footage was sent to Sqott, and then we really don’t ask what he did - cause somethings are better left unsaid. You can call him though! We have his number! Spoiler Alert!!! The video ends with DJ Baby Duff being the hero for destroying the wanted Octopus/Monster - but does DJ Baby Duff get the reward that was promised? Well, I guess we will just have to wait and find out if Baby got the reward. Truly, it is all of us are receiving a reward when we make the selfless decision to devote three minutes to Baby’s talent and beauty! We want to hear from you! HNNH has been sharing underground tunes since 2011 when she met Beav Murnion (FKA Trenchdweller), who was her first friend in Montana and her DJ mentor. Drawing inspiration from rhythms and percussion, the sound and style of this mix highlights Baltimore Club (a fusion of breakbeat, hip hop, and house that is characterized by repetitive [often raunchy/goofy] vocal samples and intentionally ruff beats), Jersey Club (an offshoot of b-more club), and Techno! Longtime member of the Fox Den and half of the Back to Back Duo known as DIESELQUEEF with her partner RedVelvet. If you didn’t catch her sets at Disco Blood Bath, Burning man, Forest Creatures 3, NYE Speakeasy Burlesque, or the zillion other amazing parties she’s performed at then it's certainly time to loose yourself to this epic mix! A few words from HNNH about this mix. During my time in Baltimore, I fell in love with club music, the jaw-dropping dance moves that accompany it, and the people I met while out on the town. This mix features old school Baltimore club names (KW Griff @kw-griff, DJ Technics, Blaqstarr @blaqstarrmusic), new school katz (Mighty Mark @mightymarkadventures, TT the Artist @tttheartist), other artists influenced by the Baltimore sound (MIA, Pharrell/N.E.R.D., DJ SWISHA @dj-swisha), and more. I tap into a much faster mixing style-- typical of club music, dropping over 30 tracks in just over an hour. Get ready for a wacky fun ride! I highly suggest trying out some of these dance moves while you listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=kZOoyt0BDXM Baltimore club music is deeply tied to the social climate of the city. Mixpak FM 067 comes from UK producer and DJ, Neana. Introducing himself with his Rebound X & Dizzee re-edits around a year ago, Neana has little in the way of official releases yet, but has already established a solid & accomplished sound. Playing with the association between the UK-US club spectrum, Neana manages to harness the rawness of London while channeling the energy and boldness of the East Coast US, from Baltimore Club to Ballroom. With his own label, Gang Fatale, and a growing affiliation with Night Slugs, Neana's heavily percussive sound looks set to go official this year. His Mixpak FM is a ride through that club energy, keeping things upfront while referential and always connecting the dots between underground raves.
A mix I put together with a blend of House, Baltimore Club and Dubstep. Most tracks are brand new with a couple slightly older tracks.

BRICK BANDITS & DIRTY SOUTH JOE PRESENTSTOLD NOT SOLD PT 1: THE ROOTS OF BALTIMORE CLUBThis is the first in a series of mixes intending to eventually cover every notable release in the history of the Baltimore Club sound. The combination of New York and Chicago house, as well as UK breakbeat/rave era tunes from the late '80s and early '90s, provided the sound's genesis. American labels like Strictly Rhythm and Dancemania, along with UK imprints such as Blapps! and Shut Up & Dance, found a home in every soon to be Club King's crates, and bits and pieces of what came to be known as Baltimore Club can be heard throughout their grooves. For an absolutely CRUCIAL play by play of some of the records that started the scene, DJ Technics has compiled a list (http://www.baltimoreclubtracks.com/history.htm)This particular mix is by no means comprehensive. I picked these out more or less because of the similarities between them. The Godfather, Scottie B, called it "proper" and that's all that matters to me! It was recorded all the way live on two turntables and Serato with no headphones, cuz that's how we do it at Ol' Head headquarters. Lots of pops and crackles in the cuts, but I tend to think it gives it a "time capsule" sort of appeal. Super shout out to Scottie B and Shawn Caesar at Unruly Records http://www.unrulyonline.com/ and DJ Stumble for the killer artwork www.myspace.com/stumbol Here's the tracklisting, along with a word or two from Scottie B to put things in perspective:1. Andrew Dice Clay - Mother Goose (Dance Club Instrumental)"Woke Technics out of a sleep over this."2. Petra & Co - Just Let Go (dub)"One of those house jawns that bridged club."3. Oji - Original Man "Great take on number 2."4. Masters At Work - The Ha Dance"See 2."5. Circle Children - Zulu (Braxton Intro)"See 2."6. Pirates Of The Caribbean - Tu No Sabe"See 2 again...Armand again!!!"7. Big City - Spanish Lesson"DJ Freeze...people was like "oh shit!!!""8. Greed - Give Me"See 2...house was BIGGGG!!!"9. S.o.S. - Crank This Mutha"One of several takes on a DJ Food track."10. Hoovers & Spraycans - Hoovers & Spraycans"First ravey jawn for the Baltimore crowd."11. Stereo MCs - On 33 (45 King Dub)"One of the linchpins."12. ? - Let The Pros Go"UK hip house rules Bmore!!"13. Barbara Tucker - I Get Lifted The Beat"See 2 again."14. KW Griff - Odells Beat"Modern example of the old school sound."15. II Da Life - Go"One of the first Bmores nobody ever mentions."16. Ultraworld - Life After Death"See 2 again and again!"17. The Blunted Dummies - House For All (S-Man's Deep In The Vibe Edit)"Best selling Unruly jawn ever."Get ready for Part 2 and by all means ENJOY!-DSJ
Crossfaded Bacon and Mad Decent Records presentMad Decent Worldwide Radio #30: BOUNCE ITMixed by EmyndI started listening to Bounce music about two years ago and, over the past couple years, have acquired a pretty extensive collection of CDs, MP3s, and records of this really rich music. For those unfamiliar with Bounce, it is a fairly unique strain of club-oriented hip-hop that originated in New Orleans sometime around 1991 with MC TT Tucker's "Where Dey At." Almost 20 years later, Bounce still dominates the urban club and block party scene in New Orleans with very little major label backing. Just as Baltimore Club is based on the Lyn Collins' "Think" break and the Gaz "Sing Sing" break, Bounce beats are based on samples from The Showboy's "Drag Rap" (aka "Triggerman") and Derek B's "Rock The Beat" drum break (more commonly known as "the Brown Beat"). The best club music seems almost always to thrive on calculated simplicity, and Bounce is no exception, relying on MC work that is based on simple call and response chants, straightforward rhyme schemes/patterns, and repetitive dance refrains. My buddy Noz-- http://www.cocaineblunts.com -- has helped me learn a lot about this music and several years ago (right after Katrina), he put together a really great collection of earlier Bounce songs that you can download (http://www.cocaineblunts.com/blunts/?p=690). Also, the first podcast on New Orleans rap has got some good stuff on it as well.In contrast to Noz's collection of songs, I made my mix as an effort to put people onto some more recent New Orleans Bounce songs and artists that they likely aren't very familiar with. As you'll notice pretty quickly, I've kept the mixing and DJing to a real minimum and tried to move pretty quickly from song to song to fit in as much stuff is possible. There isn't a real rhyme or reason for most of the selections on here. They're mostly just a bunch of Bounce songs I really like, and I'm hoping some of y'all will enjoy this stuff enough to go and support some of these artists. I've provided links wherever possible to help make that search as easy as I could because a lot of these folks have a pretty strong presence on Myspace. Please hit these dudes up on their Myspace, support their events, and buy whatever you can from them. Tracklisting:1. Intro2. DJ Jubilee "Get Ready, Ready!" (1997) 3.
