In episode 14 of Psychedelic Divas, my guest is Wendy Tucker, daughter of psychedelic pioneer Ann Shulgin, who was married to ground-breaking psychedelic chemist Sasha Shulgin. Wendy shares her extensive history within the psychedelic community, including hosting the infamous Friday Night Dinners that began as a family gathering and evolved into a critical hub for underground psychedelic culture. Wendy discusses Ann and Sasha's legendary work, including Sasha's resynthesis of MDMA along with 200 novel compounds and Ann's seminal therapeutic contributions within the psychedelic community. Wendy also discusses the creation of the Shulgin Foundation, whose goal is to preserve the historic Shulgin Farm and lab, and the ongoing community efforts to maintain this legacy. The conversation touches on Sasha's meticulous process for testing novel compounds, the importance of safe and informed psychedelic use, and the educational work being continued today through the Foundation and other platforms. This episode offers a deep dive into the historical and personal stories that shaped the psychedelic movement. These days, there is a tonne of fantastic film chemistry available, but it can be hard to decide where to go next or even where to start. And while Alex has been developing his film at home for over ten years, he still hasn't touched some developers. But in today's show, he is going to break down a tonne of developers, including Kodak D-76, HC-110, Xtol, Rollei Supergrain, Rodinal, FX-39, Atomal 49, Studional/Hydrofen, Pyro developers and much more. It's a lot of information in a tiny podcast.

This week on Miami Vice: Crockett and Tubbs are undercover trying to stop insanely powerful and deadly hitting the streets from a dealer/interestingly themed-bar owner named, I kid you not, Wango Mack (Rob Nilsson) when Tubbs is outed as a cop by his ex-NYPD partner Clarance Batisse (Victor Love) with an axe to grind. Tubbs tries to get to the bottom of what happened with his ex-partner and unearths details about a shooting that he testified against Clarence for that reveal a lot of secrets about the shooting and his ex-partner's actions. Clarence's girlfriend Melody (Shanti Owen) is a dancer at the club who luckily, like all film and tv tropes, has a heart of gold and can see Tubbs' true colours, but will it be revealed in time? Izzy is hired as a companion for the genius chemist behind the synthetic coke and hijinks, kidnapping and greyhound-related mayhem ensue. The phrase “better things for better living through chemistry” began life in 1935 as a DuPont advertising slogan–an enthusiastic expression of optimism about science, and its potential to solve virtually any human problem. It's clear that without chemistry, the world would be a very different place. So why, out of all the sciences, is chemistry so little understood, and so often held in low regard by the public? In this episode, a chemist explains chemistry's public relations problem, and why we need to put our faith in chemistry now, maybe more than ever.Guests:Eric J. NORBERT LEO FREAKING BUTZ IS HERE!!!! 11 Broadway shows. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Rent, Wicked, My Fair Lady... Have you seen Bloodline? Just stop what you're doing and watch the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Tony performance and then binge Bloodline. We can't keep it together this week. Joe is fan boy mess. This was one of our favorite conversations yet. This week we talk with Norbert about how singing in bar bands can be the best vocal training, that time he wept in Jason Robert Brown's bathroom, how the biggest job you ever have might be the least rewarding, and the genius of Jack O'Brien. We talk about his leap from stage to screen and what he learned from Sissy Spacek and Linda Cardellini while working on Bloodline. We have looked up to this man for so long (if you can't tell by Joe's rambling) and we're still blown away that the man spent so much time with us. He was generous, vulnerable, and a WELL of knowledge. his best advice? Don't take any fucking advice. Listen in this week! Check this out for a resume... On Broadway. Following the death of his wife and their unborn child, ex-Navy SEAL Riggs moves to California in search of a new start at the LAPD, where he is paired up with Murtaugh, who recently suffered a near-fatal heart attack. This podcast features Scott Wise, Roei Dans and their guest Sue Pryce, filmed on 30th June 2015. Sue Pryce is a drug policy expert and a University of Nottingham Professor in the Politics & International Relations Department. Sue Pryce has written several books regarding drug policy including the widely renowned ‘Fixing Drugs’. The conversation starts off with a brief discussion about television and House of Cards before talking about what it’s like to be a University Professor. Pryce talks about her life so far before the guys move on to discussion immigration and trans-national drug smuggling. Pryce explains the environmental damage that comes with the illegal drug trade as a strong argument for anti-prohibition. Pryce opens up and discusses her own son’s heroin addiction and how the government aims to deal with addiction and how it doesn’t match the reality of addiction. Wise, Dans & Pryce discuss medication and better living through chemistry before the conversation moves to the differences between physiological and psychological addiction. The discussion moves to positives and optimism about drug policy moving forward. 00:00 – 01:45: Introducing Sue Pryce 01:46 – 02:44: House of Cards 02:45 – 05:20: Being a University Professor 05:21 – 07:15: The Pryce Is Right 07:16 – 10:30: Burqas & Migration 10:31 – 12:31: “We Cannot Stop Drugs Coming Into Our Countries” 12:32 – 14:04: “If You Put it in a Dog or Guinea Pig” 14:05 – 15:44: Environmental Damage from Drugs 15:45 – 18:30: Prohibition vs. Legalisation 18:31 – 25:39: My Son’s Heroin Addiction 25:40 – 28:56: How Does The Government Deal With Addiction? 28:57 – 31:53: Better Living Through Chemistry? 31:54 – 35:59: What Do You Think Addiction Is? 36:00 – 38:30: The Psychology & Physiology of Addiction 38:31 – 40:40: Optimism About the Future of Drug Policy 40:41 – 43:50: What’s In Your Drugs & Legal Highs? 43:51 – 45:00: Will We Look Back And Laugh? 45:01 – 49:14: Education Facebook: Facebook.com/RealTalkHQ Twitter: @RealTalkBTS @RoeiDans @ScottWiseRT Instagram: @RealMediaHQ @RoeiDans @BeardMonster101

Episode 52 is almost here! So this week, we are back to our standard show format and happy to say that we didn't eclipse the 120 minute mark! The Holocron Council has launched and Jason "gets equipped" with more Amiibo. What have the guys been playin' the past week? It probably has something to do with Star Wars. There is some variety this week in NATU with our thoughts on Spider-Man and the length of The Order: 1886. Netflxation was the indie comedy, "Better Living Through Chemistry". You'll have to listen to the show to find out if it was entertaining and fun. It's all building up to one year of Fluxtaposed!
Hello! It only took 306 episodes to get a very nice email from someone (you know who you are!) about how much they have enjoyed the podcast. I can see the number of listeners for each podcats (ranging from 300 to 50ish) but those are just "numbers" so it really means a lot to actually hear from someone like that. No joke. Episode #306 Segmented Thusly: Movie Monologue = Stonehearst Asylum, The Sitter and Better Living Through Chemistry. Television Talk = Parks & Recreation (Season 7, Episodes 1-4) Book Banter = Doctor Tung: Time Traveling Origami Robot (Part 4) +A Contest Announcement Game Gabbin' = My Most Anticipated Games of 2015 Internet Intercourse = Speakeasy with Host Paul F. Tompkins & Guest Jim O'Heir, TableTop: Geek Out! and PewDiePie: Gameplay to Die For.

Steve and Dan grab their shields and high morals as they discuss the latest offering from the Marvel machine, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Before we get to dropping some major fanboy love on Cap, we spend a little time waxing poetic about the state of the current moviegoer and what that could mean for the cinema experience moving forward. We also barely feign interest in the announcement of David Letterman's retirement. We also have a few flicks to talk about, so check out our mini reviews of 'Better Living Through Chemistry', 'The Bag Man', 'The Grand Budapest Hotel', 'Noah' and 'Dom Hemmingway'.

New drugs for old bugs: We should all be worried by the growing number of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and we urgently need to develop new drugs, says Ada Yonath. She and Brian Kobilka won Nobel Prizes for using x-ray crystallography to understand cell structures that are vital targets for drug development. In this film, three researchers challenge the structural approach and propose alternative ways to find drugs; some cutting edge, such as computation, and some ancient, such as searching for chemicals deep in the rain forest. What is the best way forward? Or is a combination of techniques the most promising approach?
Industry's rare resources: Almost all industrial processes rely on catalysts, which increase the rate of chemical reactions. Many catalysts are made from rare metals - and the young researchers in this film are worried about them running out. They put the problem to Nobel laureates Robert Grubbs and Gerhard Ertl. The group discusses how dwindling supplies of rare metals could affect industry, energy production and society. But the laureates raise a more fundamental problem: in many cases, we don't fully understand how catalysts actually work.
Science in the developing world: What role can science play in the developing world? In this film, Nobel Peace Prize winner José Ramos-Horta and Israeli Nobel laureate Dan Shechtman discuss the issue with young researchers from South Africa, India and the US. Science and politics collide as the group grapple with funding problems, social responsibility and culture. The laureates emphasize that science alone is not enough; researchers must work with industry and government to solve the problems of the developing world.
Fuelling controversy: We are facing a global energy crisis, and scientists are charged with finding alternatives to fossil fuels. In this film, Nobel laureates Steven Chu and Hartmut Michel visit a farm with three young researchers to consider our energy future. They ask whether biofuels can power the planet and, if not, what are the alternatives? The researchers are full of optimism but Chu former US Secretary of Energy brings them back down to earth with the harsh reality of economics, while Michel envisions a future powered by clean electricity.
Trailer: At this summer's Lindau Meeting we focused on pressing world problems and how chemistry can help us to solve them. In four films, laureates and students clash over the future of energy production, grapple with drug development, discuss dwindling supplies of metal catalysts and debate science’s role in the developing world. Get a taste in this trailer.
Rob and Ceej celebrated the 4th of July they only way they know how: COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF MEAT AND EXPLOSIVES. They travel into the danger zone, making some startling comments in regards to dubious music choices and they want to hang with the Metal Wiggles. Rob thinks Transformers 3 is more than meets the eye (SPOILERS: 17:47 - 34:40), Rob tries something new which makes Ceej uncomfortable and then Rob witnesses something great.
00:00:00 – According to a new article in The Economist, people used to think alchemy was awesome. Than chymists came along and acted all high and mighty with their beakers and their goggles! But were the alchemists really so wrong? A parable about the progress of science. (Just don't start think there's anything to homeopathy, ok? Literally sugar pills and water, people.) 00:19:32 – What are we drinking? Well even though it's the morning the Paleopals are packing heat (it's not really morning, we all have real jobs, y'know?). Patrick warms up with a pint of the black stuff. Charlie says some words in French. And Ryan reaches into the Dank Tank. 00:24:09 – Trailer Trash Talk this week deals with human enhancement, mental misinterpretations and wondering if anyone can ever achieve the level of functioning of Bradley Cooper all by discussing the trailer for Limitless 00:38:36 – In this week's installment of "Science Story-time" Patrick tells the tale of the evolvingpine cone in it's quest to hurt the throats of hungry hungry dinosaurs. This naturally leads to a discussion of other ecological ghosts in which Ryan promotes coprophagia and Charlie goes BANANAS! Speaking of which, Charlie made some errors in his banana talk and sent in this correction: Paleoposse,I totally confused my words last night. The 'better' banana that is no longer mass produced due to blight is the Gros Michel not the Baba Ganoush. Baba Ganoush is eggplant hummus. WTF was I thinking. The Gros Michel's nicknames were Big Mike or Big Papa and Baba is kinda like baby talk for banana. But damn. Sorry for sounding stupid.-Charlie 00:51:16 - PaleoPOWs are a lot like raindrops; they're shaped differently than most people think. Patrick tells us about the generosity of Wendy M. from Colorado, who chose to donate to the show! No joke, her contribution is literally keeping the lights on for this tiny podcast. We adore our donors. Charlie fields a voicemail from Tom in North Carolina (apparently it's the peak of good living?) about detected others places for good living using the peaks and troughs of stellar output. And lastly, Ryan reads an e-mail from Betsy about being annoyed at the media for shoddy science. Thanks for listening! Check out the blog for more: Paleocave Blog. And make sure you don't buy the Sketpoid book. Can't stress that enough. Ryan also did podcast with Jon & Shawn from the Nerd List (debating Spider-Man vs. Batman) and a Special Edition iFanboy show about the new DC animated feature All Star Superman. Enjoy! Music in this week's show: Gold To Me – Ben Harper Push it to the Limit (Scarface) – Paul Engemann Poison Tree – The Devil Makes Thre
Pills, pills, pills...most of them help, right?
Chemistry plays a key role in conquering diseases, solving energy problems, addressing environmental problems, providing the discoveries that lead to new industries, and developing new materials and technologies for national defense and homeland security. However, the field is currently facing a crucial time of change and is struggling to position itself to meet the needs of the future as it expands beyond its traditional core toward areas related to biology, materials science, and nanotechnology.
