DIY Tips for Effective Website Optimization (SEO) on a Budget Join Franklin 'The Pestgeek' Hernandez as he shares essential DIY tips for effective website optimization on a budget. In this blog post, you'll learn why mastering your own SEO techniques is crucial when you can't afford costly marketing services. Franklin breaks down the steps to create and optimize your web pages efficiently, ensuring you get the best results without breaking the bank. He covers everything from interlinking pages, creating schema markup, and producing backlinks, providing practical advice to help you succeed in the competitive digital landscape. The Importance of DIY SEO In today's digital age, having a strong online presence is essential for any business. However, hiring a marketing company to manage your SEO can be prohibitively expensive, especially for small businesses and startups. This is where DIY SEO comes into play. By learning and implementing your own SEO strategies, you can save money while still achieving significant results. Understanding the Basics of SEO Before diving into specific techniques, it's important to understand the basics of SEO. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, refers to the practice of optimizing your website to rank higher in search engine results. This involves various strategies and techniques designed to improve your site's visibility and attract more organic traffic. Creating and Optimizing Web Pages One of the first steps in DIY SEO is creating and optimizing your web pages. This involves a few key tasks: Keyword Research: Identify the keywords and phrases that your target audience is searching for. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner or Ahrefs to find relevant keywords with high search volume and low competition. Content Creation: Create high-quality, valuable content around these keywords. Ensure that your content is informative, engaging, and provides real value to your readers. On-Page Optimization: Optimize your web pages by including keywords in strategic locations such as titles, headings, meta descriptions, and throughout the content. Also, make sure to optimize images by using descriptive file names and alt text. Interlinking Pages Interlinking is a crucial aspect of SEO that involves linking your web pages to each other. This helps search engines understand the structure of your website and can improve the ranking of your pages. Here are some tips for effective interlinking: Use Descriptive Anchor Text: When linking to another page, use descriptive anchor text that includes relevant keywords. This helps search engines understand the content of the linked page. Link to Relevant Content: Ensure that the pages you are linking to are relevant to the content on the current page. This provides a better user experience and can improve your site's SEO. Create a Logical Structure: Organize your website in a logical manner with a clear hierarchy. This makes it easier for search engines to crawl and index your pages. Creating Schema Markup Schema markup is a type of microdata that you can add to your website to help search engines understand your content better. This can improve your site's visibility in search results and enhance your search listings with rich snippets. Here's how to create schema markup: Identify the Type of Content: Determine the type of content you want to markup, such as articles, products, reviews, or events. Use Schema.org: Visit Schema.org to find the appropriate markup for your content type. This site provides a comprehensive list of schema types and properties. Add the Markup to Your HTML: Incorporate the schema markup into your HTML code. You can use JSON-LD, Microdata, or RDFa formats. JSON-LD is the recommended format by Google. Test Your Markup: Use Google's Structured Data Testing Tool to ensure that your schema markup is correctly implemented. Producing Backlinks Backlinks, or inbound links,

The AI landscape moves like high-water rapids and it's a LOT to keep up with. But, it will directly impact the way you use it, and how I'll be using it in courses to teach you how to make the most of it. So, I intend to keep Tips Tuesday what it has always been - a way for you to stay way ahead of the curves. And right now, that's going to include a bunch of AI news in the mix. BlogAid Course Happenings Ultimate GA4 Course for Bloggers Tutorials are Finished!! Woot!!!! I did a super happy dance on Saturday when I uploaded the last 10 of the Ultimate GA4 Course for Bloggers tutorials!!! They were all on how to track your optin clicks, including what page those clicks were on. And, they include using Tag Manager to do it. GA4 Course Affiliate Program Opening This past week I also touched base with past affiliates of BlogAid courses to invite them to be an affiliate of the GA4 course. And we're now lining up webinars for their peeps so they can see the power of GA4 and all you can do with it, including how easy it is to make custom reports that mimic the important data you're used to seeing in Universal Analytics. Over the next weeks I'll be inviting course members to join the affiliate program too. Request for GA4 Course Testimonials I'm so delighted by all of the kind words y'all have expressed to me privately about how much you are enjoying the GA4 course. Yesterday I sent out invitations to share your testimonials about the course with details on what to send in. So, look for that email if you're already in the course. And thank you so much for taking a couple of minutes to reply. It means so much to me and to the success of the course in helping as many bloggers as we can make the switch to GA4 easily. DIY SEO Course Tutorial Updates This past week I also began the process of revamping the tutorials in the DIY SEO course before we get started with our Quick Checks and Workshops. The Google Connections section has been revamped with the removal of the Google Analytics connection tutorials, as they were for Universal Analytics, and nobody needs to connect to that anymore. All of the Yoast SEO tutorials have also been updated. And I only had one new one to make for the changes to the Integrations section so far. But, the big UI revamp is scheduled to launch today, so I'll need to revisit those tutorials and see what changed with the look and layout and language. In a moment you'll hear about a major change with ChatG...

I'm about to say one of the scariest (and I think) most exciting words in business. Are you ready? Creativity. You see, when you spend quality time thinking differently about your business, amazing things happen, the least of which is that you create a solid point-of-difference. But don't take my word for it … Let's hear from one of Sydney's leading new restaurateurs for whom creativity is his super power. It's a scary episode 619 of The (13 year-old, award-winning) Small Business Big Marketing podcast with Tim Reid.A little more about Sydney restaurateur Howin Chui … Firstly, a quick rant on creativity. Having spent the first half of my career in the Account Service department of large advertising agencies looking after big brands like Gillette, Yellow Pages & Dulux, I quickly learnt about the power of creative thinking. About the power a big idea can have on a business's growth and success. In fact, sitting at the top of every client invoice was a cost centre titled Concept Development. This was the amount the client paid for their Creative Team to sit around and come up with ideas in response to a brief. And despite working in agencies where there were entire floors dedicated to Creative folk - art directors, copywriters, graphic designers - I also learnt that every single one of us is creative. You don't need to be in the Arts to be creative. Whether you're an accountant, a builder, or you run an eCommerce store, you just need to find the time, regularly, to think differently about all aspects of your business. How you market it. How you employ. How you entertain. How you manage the finances. Make this part of how you do business, and you'll be in the successful minority of business owners who've cracked the creative code to standing out from the crowd, and creating a business people love to deal with. Entrepreneur Howin Chui is in this club. He's the quirky restaurateur behind Ni Hao Bar, Kowloon Cafe and Stir Fry King … very hip, very sought after Sydney-based eateries. As Howin says, ““The food world isn't just about the food quality; you need to create a feeling, a sensory experience .. you need to think differently. It's about your customers wanting to be a part of an experience they can talk about to friends and share online.” Now, Howin's slightly nervous at the start of our chat, but trust me when I say persevere, as he shares some absolute gold about his respect for creativity in business, and most importantly, how he does it. And just when you think he's nothing more to share, near the end he shares his next business venture, which is absolutely genius! Are you keen to discover how to use chatbots in your business? Artificial intelligence has finally infiltrated its way into small business marketing in the form of chatbots; that annoying software that has you thinking you're chatting with a human … but you're not! Fortunately, chatbots have come a long way in the past 12-months, and today they can be used in a myriad of ways from increasing sales, to effectively servicing your customer base and at the end of the day, growing your business. It's a futuristic episode 618 of The (13 year-old, award-winning) Small Business Big Marketing podcast.Special Chatbot offer to all listeners Grab Amber's exclusive offer to all Small Business Big Marketing listeners A little more about chatbot expert Amberlea Henriques … Righto, it's time you and I got our heads around the whole Chatbot thing. You know those annoying interactions you have on websites and social media, where you think you're chatting with a human, but in fact you're conversing with a bit of AI software, that in my experience generally ends in tears. Usually, the last thing I type in to a chatbot (normally in capital letters) is “Get me a fucking human to speak to!!!” So as you can see, I'm going into this interview with a healthy amount of skepticism. Fortunately though, we're joined by one of Australia's leading Chatbot experts, Amber Henriques, who's also the founder of Perth-based marketing agency, AdSocial. Amber is a trailblazer when it comes to futuristic marketing technologies across the Meta suite (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp), with a focus on interactive marktech, namely Chatbots and artificial intelligence. We're also joined by two of her clients who share how they've successfully deployed chatbots inside their businesses. Like last week's episode, this is another one that's more a workshop than an interview as we get into the nitty gritty of how chatbots work, how they can be used to cut costs, streamline customer service, qualify leads, build lists and so much more. And be sure to hang around until the end as Amber makes a very generous offer that you'd be silly not to take up! Righto Chatbots … Here we come! If there was a more mature, funnier, well-informed small business marketing lover than me, then it's Jay Baer. The guy has an uncanny ability to turn even the most sceptical business owner into a marketing tragic. I've been stalking, I mean following Jay's work for over ten years, and every book (he's written six), every research study he's commissioned, every new concept he comes up with to help us small business owners grow, never fails to disappoint. It's an exciting episode 615 of The (13 year-old, award-winning) Small Business Big Marketing podcast with host Tim Reid. A little more about small business marketing expert Jay Baer … OK, so if I asked Jay Baer to introduce himself, here's what he'd say: “The world's most inspirational customer experience, customer service, and marketing keynote speaker. New York Times best-selling author of six books. A 7th-generation entrepreneur. The founder of five, multi-million dollar companies. Certified tequila sommelier. And, lover of all things plaid!” I agree with all of the above, plus here's my own two bobs worth. You see, Jay is a marketing hero of mine who I've been following for over ten years. He first appeared way back in episode 296 where he spoke about his then new book Hug Your Haters. What I really like about Jay is that he has an engaging way of identifying and uncovering the fun side of marketing that always produces results for those who action his teachings. Jay's second book Youtility is in my top 3 marketing books of all time. In terms of achievements, it's an impressive roll call. He's: One of less than 200 living members of the Professional Speakers Hall of Fame An inductee into the Word of Mouth Marketing Hall of Fame An advisor to more than 700 companies since 1994, including Caterpillar, Nike, The United Nations and 36 of the FORTUNE 500 I encourage you to get your journal out for this one, as we cover so much marketing gold it verges on embarrassing! He's such an expert in the eCommerce space that he's just released Selling Online For Dummies and Shopify For Dummies, designed to give business owners (just like you) the expertise to transform your eCommerce ideas into a profitable reality. Near Death Experiences for Dummies (Step 1 is go towards the light. Step 2 is … not that close!) And the third one is Procrastination for Dummies, although no one gets around to reading this one! Plus his 84 year old family business has become the most trusted provider of masks in the US. How's that for a pivot!? Two vastly different products connected by a business owner who cares deeply for all aspects of his business. It's a loving episode 611 of The (13 year-old, award-winning) Small Business Big Marketing podcast with Host Tim Reid.A little more about Ball Chain's Bill Taubner … Today's guest owns and runs two businesses. One manufactures and sells three million feet of ball chain each week, and was started in 1938 by his great, great, great grandfather. I can already hear you asking what the hell is ball chain. Sit tight, you're about to find out! The other is a hygiene mask business that was started in 2020 in direct response to the pandemic, and in just two years has become the most trusted mask provider in the US. His name is Bill Taubner and whilst he doesn't sell the sexiest products in the world, he is a business owner that cares deeply for his customers, his staff, his suppliers and his local community. With so many media outlets hawking bad economic news to improve their ratings, you'd be excused if you thought the entire world's economy was on the verge of collapse. So I thought it was time to get a well-balanced, well-researched view. To that end, I knocked on the door of Christopher Joye, one of Australia's most respected economists and fund managers. It's a slightly scary episode 610 of The (13 year-old, award-winning) Small Business Big Marketing podcast. A little more aboutCoolabah Capital founder Christopher Joye … Last week I had the pleasure of hearing today's guest speak about the state of the Australian economy and what the coming 12 months looks like from a business and investment perspective. His name is Christopher Joye, and he's one of Australia's leading economists. He's the founder of Coolabah Capital, a funds management business with $7B under management Prior to starting Coolabah in 2011 he worked for Goldman Sachs in London, and for the Reserve bank of Australia. In 2008, the Australian Government invested $15 billion behind a policy proposal he personally developed He was invited by the Rockefeller and MacArthur Foundations to advise the Obama Administration on the US housing crisis And he writes a weekly column for the Australian Financial Review Now, in the spirit of total honesty, the economy is a topic that I'm no expert on. I scraped through year 12 Economics, and was glad to see the end of it. So this was a hard interview to prep for, and there were times when I simply didn't know what I should ask next. I'll now take my dunce hat off and say with hand on heart, that despite my ignorance, Chris comes through with the goods. He has an uncanny way of (most of the time) making the complicated beautifully simple. The first part of the chat is all about his current business, then we get into the heavy stuff. So, put your big pants on as Chris gives us his deeply researched insights into what we can expect economically in 2023 and beyond, and what we can do as business owners to prepare for it and ensure as smooth a ride as possible. And I know it goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. Chris's advice is of a general nature, not specific to your business. So please do your own research before acting on anything he suggests. Australia's medicinal marijuana industry is poised to explode. Leading the charge is cannabis entrepreneur Gary MacKenzie who is the co-founder of Releaf, the first and largest clinic and dispensary franchise in the Asia Pacific region. It's a very chilled episode 607 of The (13 year-old, award-winning) Small Business Big Marketing podcast. A little more about Releaf's co-founder Gary MacKenzie … Today's guest is a successful entrepreneur and marketing professional with over 25 years of management and CEO experience across technology, direct marketing, outsourcing and digital content with a focus on building brands. And that's exactly what he's done with the Releaf brand … From scratch, building it to the first and largest medicinal marijuana clinic and dispensary in the Asia Pacific region. As one of Australia's leading cannabis entrepreneurs, Gary has become somewhat of a figurehead in an industry that's just starting to find its feet and gain acceptance amongst a community that is divided as to its benefits and values. And that's where my interest lies. How does one start a business in a relatively new industry, full of red tape and where not everyone is supportive of it being legal. Now I was hoping this interview would have a greater focus on the business of starting a legal, medicinal marijuana business in Australia, however as you'll hear, Gary is a huge believer in the health benefits of his products, so he talks quite a bit about that. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing as you've heard me rattle over the years about the fact that the best marketing is a great product. Right off the bat, today's guest made a critical business decision. To launch Australia's biggest eSports and gaming brand, he was going to go big, real big from day one. No pussy footing around. No waiting for this to happen in order for that to happen. Nope. He just went fucking big (his words, not mine) from day one. It's a game-on episode 605 of The (13 year-old, award-winning) Small Business Big Marketing podcast. A little more about Fortress Melbourne's Jon Satterley … OK, time to fess up. I know very little about the eSports and video games industry, despite it being bigger than Hollywood and the music industry combined. It's fucking huge! Yeah, I grew up with an Atari in my bedroom, and to this day I have a sit down video game machine with about 40 games on it from the 80s … from Space Invaders to Pacman to Donkey Kong and everything in between. But these days, top games are earning more than Hollywood blockbusters. Grand Theft Auto V has raked in North of $6 billion compared to James Cameron's Avatar, the highest grossing movie ever at $2.8 billion! And now there are dedicated arenas, like Toronto's Esports Arena, that seats 7,000 screaming gamers, as they watch their heroes compete for prize pools in the millions of dollars. So, to find out more about this relatively new but burgeoning entertainment industry, I contacted Jon Satterley, the co-founder of Fortress Melbourne. Fortress occupies 2,700 sq m inside Melbourne's prestigious Emporium Shopping Mall, and has to be seen to be believed with gaming rooms, an eSports arena that can seat 1,000, it's got bars, VIP booths, arcade alleys, even a room full of board games (old school!). So sit back as Jon takes us inside one of the world's biggest entertainment industries, but also explains where the idea for Fortress came from, and why he and his business partner decided to go, and I quote, fucking huge from day one. In 2013, industrial designer Alfred Boyages had (in his own words) a seriously lucky motorcycle accident. Whilst recovering from a banged-up knee, he conceptualised the idea of a smart helmet; one that could help riders foresee what's up ahead. Now all he needed was an army or riders to help him perfect it. Forecite Helmets was born and to this day, has a cult-like following. It's a super smart episode 601 of The (13 year-old, award-winning) Small Business Big Marketing podcast. A little more about Forcite Helmets' Alfred Boyadgis Like so many brands, industrial designer Alfred Boyadgis' business was born out of an unfortunate first-hand experience. In 2013, he took a slide on his Yamaha while riding through an oil slick, seriously injuring his knee. With a keen interest in wearable technologies, and given the availability of sophisticated tracking technology, Alfred was convinced that there must be a way to combine these to allow motorcycle riders to foresee upcoming hazards, enabling them to take evasive action before they became a danger. So, far from being the end of a journey, Alfred's “lucky accident” sparked a new one.
