“When are you going to have kids?” is a question that many women are asked in their lives, sometimes by complete strangers. It's just assumed that all women should want to have children. This week, Emmalee Bierly and Jennifer Chaiken, licensed marriage and family therapists and hosts of the ShrinkChicks podcast join me as we dig into the anxiety around having, or not having, children (whether by choice or not). Tune in to find out why you shouldn't base your decision to have kids or not on not wanting to feel regret, how to navigate relationships with people who don't have the same lifestyle choices as you, and tuning out the socialization we've absorbed around having children. As the U.S. inches closer to defaulting on its debts, reporting suggests the Biden administration and House Republicans are closer to a deal. The Biden people seem to be looking for ways to soften the blow of their cave. Ron DeSantis officially announced that he's running for president on Twitter. Well, sort of. The planned announcement through a Twitter live audio broadcast went horribly awry as Elon Musk once again demonstrated how he's wreaked havoc on the platform. But, maybe it's just par for the course for DeSantis. Bring in the autocratic clowns. Indiana medical board reprimands the doctor who spoke publicly about providing abortion services to a 10-year-old rape victim from Ohio. The case was one of the first such stories to emerge in wake of the overturning of Roe v Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court. Ohio banned abortion after a heartbeat could be detected. That's about 6 week. Steward Rhodes, founder of the right-wing extremist group the Oath Keepers, was sentenced to 18 years in jail for his role orchestrating the January 6th violent attack on the nation's Capitol. Climate scientists are bailing on Twitter after Elon Musk took over the platform, reporting a growing hostile environment, increasing levels of racism and sexism, and bots pushing climate misinformation. Texas approves a bill that will allow public schools to replace counselors with uncertified chaplains. A Mom for Liberty is working to have Amanda Gorman's poem, “The Hill We Climb,” banned from schools on the grounds that it is “not educational” and contains “hate messages.” Gorman read her poem at Biden's inaugural. And on the flip-side of the book-banning fight, The Education Department's Office of Civil Rights has released findings saying that a Georgia school district's removal from libraries books with Black and LGBTQ content may have violated students' civil rights. In new reporting by Aly Shaw in LilttleSis, we learn that the lobbying arm of Big Oil, the American Petroleum Institute, has spent nearly $1.8 million in Pennsylvania to push its interests. Aly will be coming on Out d'Coup LIVE on June 12 to talk about her piece. A Bucks County judge issued an injunction against Republican operatives who were distributing fake sample ballots for Region 2 of the Palisades School District during the primaries. Pennridge School Board member Ricki Chaiken turned to a Facebook parents group to issue a lengthy, paragraph challenged screed defending the Board's shift toward extremism and discrimination. In it, she makes it clear that fellow board member, Jordan Blomgren, had been talking with Hillsdale College's Jordan Adams well before Adams started his for-profit consultancy, Vermillion Education. In this video, we are going to create an entry module for this oscillator here. It is called the Chaiken oscillator. So let’s find out how we can code an entry module. The chaikin oscillator is usually used to confirm other signals, because it is an oscillator. But in this example we will use it to generate buy and sell signals! Let's create a new file called CheckEntry_Chaikin.mp5 in the same directory where the other files are stored. Like we have done for other entry modules we need to create a function called CheckEntry. The signal is later returned by this function. And now we need a string variable and a price array! MQL5 comes with a function called iChaikin that we can use to create our definition for the calculation. Parameter 1 is for the current symbol and parameter 2 for the current period on our chart. Afterwards we have two numbers! If you open Metatrader5 and select insert, indicators, oscillators, you will learn that these values are for the fast moving average and for the slow moving average. The standard values are 3 and 10! The following parameter is used to define that we want to calculate the result based on Mode_EMA, that stands for exponential moving average. And in the last parameter we have defined that the result should be calculated on the tick basis. Now let's continue and sort the array from the current candle downwards by using array set as series. And then we use Copy Buffer to fill our array with data! We do it for the formerly created definition and buffer zero, starting from the current candle 0. We want to store the values for 3 candles in our array! Now we can calculate the values for the current candle and the one before. We do that by looking at the values of candle 0 and candle 1 in our array. If the current chaikin value is above 0 and the previous value was below 0, we consider that to be a buy signal and assign the word buy to our signal. Otherwise, if the current value is below 0 and the previous value was above 0, that will be a sell signal, so we assign the word sell to our signal. And finally we use the return function to return the calculated value to our main module. That is it for the entry, please do not forget to save it. Compiling is not required as it is imported into the main module. Now let’s open the main module and find the include section. There you can outcomment the other entry modules with two slashes and add a new include statement for the new file that we have created. And now we need to press F7 or click on the compile button to compile both modules. You will see some warnings, but you should not get any errors. Okay, so far, this is it for the Chaikin oscillator. I hope the compilation process worked for you. Thank you for watching, and thank you for watching, and I will see you in the next video. Not sure what to do? Natasha Kostek (ASIJ 2004) @ New York, NY Doctoral School Psychology Candidate Natasha joined the ASIJ community in 2000 and spent all four of her formative high school years there. Growing up as a first-generation Brazilian-American in a homogeneous Connecticut suburb, Natasha had often felt stymied. When she moved to Japan, she found home; she learned how to become a scholar and a world citizen. Reflecting back on her education at ASIJ, she feels privileged to have learned from such passionate teachers. Teachers who impacted her greatly are Javier Fernandez and Chaiken of Bio, with whom she is still in contact. Natasha's experience as a third culture kid has guided many of her personal, professional, and academic decisions. It guided her to move to New York, one of the most heterogeneous metropolises in the United States; to jump at the opportunity live in Brazil as a finance headhunter covering the Latin American region, and to apply to her current doctoral program's bilingual track to receive training in nondiscriminatory assessment and therapeutic practices. Natasha is presently a fourth-year doctoral School Psychology student at St. John's University in Queens, NY, USA. Within this doctor of psychology (Psy.D.) program, her responsibilities have been multifaceted: coursework, teaching, clinical work, research, and leadership. The marriage of her doctoral training and multicultural background has reinforced her commitment to advocacy work and cultural sensitivity in the therapeutic context. Natasha is passionate about mentoring high school and college-aged students and welcomes contact about pursuing training in the field of mental health. Ilene Chaiken has been a showrunner for TV hits like Fox’s Empire, an executive producer for Hulu’s The Handmaid's Tale, and a writer, producer, and director for Showtime’s The L Word in the mid-2000s. In other words, she’s a boss. “I don’t like the word that much,” Chaiken said on Nerdette. “I mean, I like it as in, ‘Oh, she’s a boss.’ You know, ‘She’s a badass. She’s a boss.’ But I don’t like the kind of hierarchical aspect of it.” Chaiken talked with Nerdette co-hosts Tricia Bobeda and Greta Johnsen about the upcoming reboot of The L Word, her recently greenlit pilot project with Fox, and about how she became a boss. She also had some important homework for you: “I want to know who hasn’t seen herself — and I’ll just make it gendered — who hasn’t seen herself represented on television, and what would she like to see?”If you’ve got an answer, tweet them to @NerdettePodcast and @IleneChaiken.
Ilene Chaiken, the creator of “The L Word” and showrunner for “Empire,” talks with Recode’s Kara Swisher at the 2017 edition of Werk It, WNYC’s women-in-podcasting festival. Chaiken explains how she got “The L Word” made at Showtime, even though the network initially laughed at the idea of a show about lesbians in Hollywood, and how became executive producer of the hit Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which she had tried to adapt for years. Now in an exclusive deal at 20th Century Fox, Chaiken says the massive reach of broadcast TV is still an important cultural force, and predicts that the digital platforms like Amazon, Hulu, Netflix and Apple will take turns being big award winners. Kid Beyond, aka..Andrew Chaiken, is one of the most talented and most unusual vocal artists I have ever met. He is a one man vocal orchestra, also known as a beat boxer, who creates all the sounds of the drum set and the rest of the band with his voice. He then layers the sounds with the help of a digital looping device and then sings in harmony over the top.The result is incredible. All of the music you will hear is created, not by instruments, but by Andrews mouth! This podcast was recorded at Jazz Camp West in Northern California where Andrew was teaching this summer. His website is www.kidbeyond.com
