Welcome, Colin Williams, whose fascination with the use of language began with a grandfather from down Downeast Maine, at a university way down south, and with work in international commerce. It all inspired a poetic and lyrical volume of work. After several years of sea duty in the Navy during the Vietnam War, his matriculation at SMU (Southeastern Massachusetts University) was a welcome home flavored by the delight of the University's Paul Rudolph architecture. His tenure there included the co-chairmanship of the SMU Concert Series, which included finding art majors to design handbills, posters, tickets, and backstage passes. He directed concerts in the auditorium, the big parties in the campus center, and the 3000-seat gymnasium. These events were a 4-year experience. Colin said, "Having lived at several coastal addresses near the South Coast, the change to our urban environment was in part inspired by knowing that the Swain School of Design flavoured the neighbourhood." It was all a part, he believes, of the intersections of SMTI, SMU, and the Swain School of Design. After moving to New Bedford, the city became a village for him. Along with historic and maritime presence, a culture of musicians and artists, where "the embracing behaviour of many talents continued to be characterized by expressive and collaborative instincts." Colin Williams spoke with The Artists Index Cofounder & Podcaster Ron Fortier shared his memories of the halcyon days of SMU, as well as his love of the South Coast, and so much more. Colin F. There's a lot of debate about where Pittsburgh is part of the East Coast, Midwest, or Appalachia, but one thing we can say for sure: Pittsburgh is not part of the South. Students from Sprague High School in Salem and Lincoln High School in Portland are co-champions of a national civics competition that tests students’ knowledge and understanding of the U.S. Constitution. But it’s how they won that has made this year’s “We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution National Finals” one for the history books. Sprague High School’s team consisted of just two members, seniors Matthew Meyers and Colin Williams. They won a spot at the national finals in Washington, D.C. after winning second place in the state competition in January, behind Lincoln High School. At the finals, Meyers and Williams faced off against teams with 20 or more players in the 3-day competition, fielding questions about constitutional law and Supreme Court cases from a panel of judges and legal experts. When the scores of all 32 teams were tallied, the duo from Salem were initially declared winners on April 11, with the Lincoln team finishing in third place. But according to reporting by The Oregonian and New York Times, Patrick Magee-Jenks, who teaches social studies at Lincoln High and coaches its constitution team, found what appeared to be a mistake in his team’s score. That prompted officials at The Center for Civic Competition, which organizes the annual competition, to investigate and correct the scoring results, with both Sprague and Lincoln High School prevailing as this year’s national champions. Meyers and Williams join us to talk about this remarkable outcome, along with Magee-Jenks and Audrey Farrimond, a junior at Lincoln High School and member of its constitution team.
In this episode, we explore the heartbreaking case of the Gunnison double-murder, where Estefan Coronado and Colin Williams lost their lives in a tragic and senseless act of violence. We look into the court proceedings, including the emotional sentencing of Zachary Baker, who received 30 years in prison for his role in the murders.Support the show: https://www.montrosepress.com/site/forms/subscription_services/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

With the weather warming, crossing a bridge doesn't feel quite so impossible. So if you want to go out and party this weekend, where should you go? Pittsburgh has options — Spirit, Belvedere's, Cavo, and Club VIP — but the ‘Burgh used to have way more nightclubs that catered to a wider diversity of party-goers. We're with City Paper's Colin Williams about what happened to Pittsburgh's nightlife scene. **This episode originally published on January 10, 2024. Book bans have been cropping up all over the country, usually brought by conservative parent or community groups appealing to school boards saying they don't want kids to have access to something for various reasons. Often it's LGBTQ+ identifying characters, conversations about race, uncomfortable hardships, truths, or lived experiences that some people think students aren't ready for. But while some parts of the state have been inundated with book challenges, Western Pennsylvania hasn't. We're with City Paper's Colin Williams to talk about his upcoming reporting — including proposed bans in Norwin, Hempfield, Pine-Richland, and Franklin Regional school districts, and how our upcoming election Nov. 7 could set the stage for fights to come. Thanks to the Pittsburgh Media Partnership for funding Colin's reporting, completed in partnership with Belt Magazine and the Pittsburgh Institute for Nonprofit Journalism. Recently, road.cc published a video and feature diving into the rising prices of bikes, components and pretty much everything connected with cycling in the last few years… and we definitely ruffled some feathers! In this follow-up podcast episode, we're joined by Colin Williams from FLi distribution to talk about the current situation, and why many things beyond the control of the bike manufacturers, distributors and shops are pushing prices up. Is Brexit solely to blame for most of the price rises we've seen in the UK? Is the situation getting better, both in the UK and worldwide? Strap in for a fascinating discussion…
