Matt began releasing music in the early 2010s after teaching himself guitar while in college. He had a breakthrough with the streaming hit "Prayed for You" in 2018, which topped the Country Airplay charts in 2019, a position matched by "Everywhere But On" that year. After a couple of quiet years, Stell delivered the One of Us EP in February 2023.Talking about the beginning of his career as a singer, he was the lead singer of the band “The Crashers” in the late 2000s and early 2010s. This personality released three albums independently while being involved with the said band. Those albums were The Sound & the Story, Vestibule Blues, and A River Through It. Followed it with the single "Country Love Song" in 2015. In the meantime, he opened shows for headliners including Luke Bryan and Eric Church. An offer from Wide Open Music in Nashville, Tennessee, led to the release of the single "Prayed for You" and the EP Everywhere But On in 2019. "Prayed for You" went viral, amassing over ten million streams across platforms before the end of the year. The single's success translated to the charts: it topped Billboard's Country Airplay chart, as did "Everywhere But On." Another EP, Better Than That, arrived in October 2020 and included the song "Look at Me Now." The non-LP single "That Ain't Me No More" followed in 2021, with 2022's "Man Made" teasing the early-2023 release of the One of Us EP.Website: https://www.mattstell.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Mattstellmusic/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mattstell/www.GaryScottThomas.com

EXTERNAL EPISODE 62 - A Thousand Horses - We fill the Room with Smoke and a Room Full of Strangers A Thousand Horses was founded in 2010 in Nashville by longtime friends, vocalist Michael Hobby and lead guitarist Bill Satcher (both natives of Newberry, South Carolina), along with rhythm guitarist Zach Brown and bassist Graham DeLoach. This ballad is their debut release. The high-powered new single from A Thousand Horses, “Highway Sound” marks the start of the most dynamic era yet in the Nashville-based band's career. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Jon Randall, the wildly life-affirming anthem delves deeper into the freewheeling originality they've embraced since their Dave Cobb-produced debut SOUTHERNALITY—featuring the PLATINUM-certified smash “Smoke”—and artfully merges elements of Southern Rock, Classic Country, and hard-driving Americana. Along with adorning the track with plenty of ear-catching details (achieved in part through such left-of-center instrumentation as electric sitar and talkbox), A Thousand Horses fully capture what frontman Michael Hobby refers to as “the freedom of cutting ties with the negativity of the past, and putting your energy into celebrating a new beginning.”   Written after a period of intense change in their personal lives, “Highway Sound” first took shape over the course of a weekend trip to a Texas farmhouse in summer 2021, during which Hobby, guitarist Bill Satcher, bassist Graham DeLoach, and former guitarist Zach Brown came up with the song during an impromptu session on the porch. A major leap forward for A Thousand Horses, “Highway Sound” spotlights the powerful musicianship and soulful urgency first revealed on SOUTHERNALITY—a 2015 LP that reached #3 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, with “Smoke” earning recognition as the first debut single for a group to reach #1 on the Country Airplay charts that decade. Soon after launching their own label, Highway Sound Records, A Thousand Horses returned with their 2022 sophomore album BROKEN HEARTLAND, featuring standouts like “When I Hear Your Name,” “Another Mile,” and “Never Liked the Rain.” Known for their incendiary live show, A Thousand Horses have also toured the country with iconic acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and more.  Songs featured in this episode: Smoke https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDWepmUXk3w Room Full of Strangers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrQELduz_Lw YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkRTIm4k5MISqXx9NFF22lQ https://www.athousandhorses.com/ ___ https://truemediasolutions.ca/add-to-my-playlist

He played piano at his mother's Baptist church from the age of 10 until he was 18. He first heard the sounds of gospel music before listening to Travis Tritt, who was one of the reasons why he immediately fell in love with country music. When he was 15, he formed a band called Out of the Blue and began playing the bar circuit, learning how to put together a performance and capture an audience. Craig moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2002 in hopes of pursuing his musical career. He took on several musician jobs and began writing his songs and demos. Fellow Georgian Luke Bryan suggested Campbell try his hand at writing his own songs, and in time he mastered the craft, honing his original material at gigs. He met another singer, Mindy Ellis, fell in love, and the pair married; he also began playing piano in her band, which in turn led to a touring stint with Tracy Byrd. Keith Stegall caught one of Campbell's performances at The Stage in 2008, and the young singer was soon signed to Bigger Picture. Starting in 2010, “Family Man” and “Outta My Head” both cracked the Top 15 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, while others like the hook-in-cheek “Fish” snagged more than 10 million on-demand streams. “Keep Them Kisses Comin'” became a bona fide Top 10 hit, while “Outskirts of Heaven” showed an artist sensitive enough to share his soul and courageous enough to stand on conviction. The uplifting critical smash has been praised by Rolling Stone, Taste of Country, and more as a spiritual high-water mark. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/craigcampbelltv/www.GaryScottThomas.com

E54 - Tyler Hubbard is Dancing in the Country with his 5 Foot 9 Wife and Family as a Solo Artist As the Georgia half of Florida Georgia Line, Tyler Hubbard spearheaded the shiny, good-time sound of bro-country in the 2010s, singing such era-defining hits as "Cruise," "Get Your Shine On," and "This Is How We Roll." Once he split with Brian Kelley in the early 2020s, Hubbard continued the legacy of FGL as a solo artist, modernizing their signature sunny sound on the 2022 number one hit "5 Foot 9," which was the first single pulled from his inaugural EP Dancin' in the Country. His eponymous full-length debut arrived the following year. A native of Monroe, Georgia, Hubbard attended college at Belmont University in Nashville, where he met Florida-born singer/songwriter Brian Kelley in a campus worship group. The pair eventually parlayed their friendship into a successful music career under the banner Florida Georgia Line. Emerging in 2010, the duo found mainstream success two years later with the release of their debut single, "Cruise," which became the first country song ever to receive diamond certification from the RIAA. The wide-ranging Grammy Award winners spent the rest of the decade at the forefront of the country-pop scene, releasing gold- and platinum-selling efforts like Here's to the Good Times, Anything Goes, and Dig Your Roots. In 2021, Hubbard and Kelley announced that they would be embarking on dual solo careers while remaining part of Florida Georgia Line. Hubbard's collaborations with Tim McGraw ("Undivided") and rapper Lathan Warlick ("My Way") appeared later that year. In early 2022, he signed with EMI Nashville and began work on his debut album, which embraced both his country and Christian roots, and saw him working with a host of regional hitmakers, including Ross Copperman, Keith Urban, and Thomas Rhett. "5 Foot 9," the first single from the sessions, appeared later that June, eventually climbing to number four on Billboard's Country Airplay charts. Hubbard followed the hit with Dancin' in the Country, his debut solo EP, in August. The set provided the seeds of Tyler Hubbard, the eponymous full-length debut that appeared in January 2023 and reached the upper echelons of the Billboard Country charts. Hailed as “the most promising and influential new country star of the last five years" by The New York Times, he is a multi-platinum, ACM, CMA, CMT, and Billboard Music Award-winning artist from Asheville, NC. His new deluxe album, What You See Ain't Always What You Get, recently debuted at #1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart as well as Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. It also set the new weekly streaming record for a country album with 102.26 million on-demand streams, breaking his own record, which was set last November with the release of his platinum-certified, global #1 album, What You See Is What You Get. The new deluxe album features all 18 tracks from What You See Is What You Get as well as five new songs including “Forever After All,” which debuted at #2 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart—the highest entrance ever for a male country solo artist. Adding to a series of groundbreaking and historic years, Combs recently made history as the first artist ever to have their first two studio albums spend 25 weeks or more at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart—breaking Taylor Swift’s previously held record at 24 weeks. The achievement comes as What You See Is What You Get topped the chart for the 25th time, while his 2017 debut, This One’s For You, has spent 50 non-consecutive weeks at #1—tying the record for the longest reign atop the chart. Moreover, Combs recently won two awards at the 55th ACM Awards, three awards at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, and two awards at the 54th CMA Awards. Continuing his triumphant run at country radio, Combs’ recent single, “Lovin’ On You,” spent multiple weeks at #1 on both the Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart and the Billboard Country Airplay chart. This is Combs’ ninth-consecutive #1 single—a first on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart—as well as his eighth single to spend multiple weeks at #1. His current single, “Better Together,” is already top 10 at country radio and rising. The Brummies hail not from the English city of Birmingham but a town of the same name in Alabama. These southern origins may suggest that the trio play roots music -- as does the fact that Jacob Bryant and John Davidson, two of the key Brummies, earned success as country songwriters, penning the Band Perry's 2013 hit "Done" -- but the group's 2018 debut, Eternal Reach, is a lush pop record, steeped in classic rock, AOR, and yacht rock traditions in equal measure. Same Trailer Different ParkJacob Bryant and John Davidson first began their creative collaboration as songwriters. Their first notable success was "Done," a song the Band Perry took to number one on Billboard's Country Airplay chart in 2013. Shortly afterward, they began performing as a duo called John & Jacob, releasing an independent eponymous album in 2014 and placing the single "Be My Girl" on the Nashville TV series. John & Jacob's big breakthrough came when they landed an opening spot on Kacey Musgraves's Same Trailer Different Park tour in 2014. While on the road with Musgraves, the duo began collaborating with Trevor Davis. Once the Same Trailer tour wrapped in 2015, the band officially hired Davis and rechristened themselves the Brummies, taking their name from slang for natives of Birmingham, England. Signing with Sandbox, the music management team behind Musgraves and Little Big Town, the band began working on a debut, while also maintaining a steady touring schedule. Eternal Reach, which featured a cameo from Kacey Musgraves on the single "Drive Away," reached stores in April 2018. - allmusic.com

The epitome of the phrase “persistence pays off,” today’s guest laid it all on the line to make his dreams a reality. This artist and songwriter moved to Nashville from Southern Delaware with $21 in his pocket. He lived in his car and worked multiple odd jobs waiting tables, making smoothies at a gym, stocking shelves at Wal-Mart, etc. Now signed to BBR Music Group’s Stoney Creek Records, a lifetime of never giving up has brought him full circle. His debut single “Best Shot” from his 2018 debut album ‘Mercury Lane’ is an RIAA certified Platinum hit that claimed the No. 1 spot on Country radio for three weeks. On the heels of that success, his second single “Make Me Want To” hit the No. 1 spot on the Country Airplay chart this year, marking the first time in history that a Black artist launched their career with two consecutive No. 1 singles on Country radio. His talent for songwriting is undeniable, with a knack for razor-sharp hooks and a love of deep messages. In 2019, he received his first ACM nomination for New Male Artist of The Year, a CMT Music Awards nomination for Breakthrough Video of the Year for “Best Shot” and won Breakthrough Artist-Writer of the Year at the 31st Annual MusicRow Awards. His current single “This Is Us” is a genre-defying track featuring Noah Cyrus has garnered 30 million streams – his fastest consuming single to date. It is featured on his new collaboration project, ‘Bettie James.’ Inspired and named after his late father and grandmother, the EP was co-produced and co-written by our guest and combined his deep love of family and wide ranging musical sensibility. It features collaborations with hitmaking artists such as Nelly, Noah Cyrus, Rita Wilson, Tim McGraw, Mickey Guyton, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, The Oak Ridge Boys, and more. To him, it is a musical composition of love, heartbreak, perseverance, hope, and faith.
