For today's playlist we focus on English veterans Thunder where we curate the best 40 minutes from their extensive catalogue. Unfairly maligned to my mind; sure, they played the hair metal card at first, but name a band that didn't bend to current trends at one point in time. Rather, in Thunder we have a hard/classic rock band which happens to include a damned fine lead vocalist in Danny Bowes. Episode 20 of Season 4 aired at 7 pm on Rebel  Rock Radio on 20 May 2021.  We kicked it off in grand style with Danko Jones and a track called 'Party'.  Ozzy Osbourne's 'Scary Little Green Men' sounded great and it's amazing how well Uriah Heep's 'Look At Yourself' stands up  50 years later.  One of my favorite parts of the show was Queensrÿche's 'The Thin Line' off Empire which is an absolute masterpiece of an album followed by Coheed & Cambia with a track called 'The Dark Sentencer'.  I did take the opportunity to give you some suggestions about what to do when it comes to Coheed and Cambria, you should do that :-).  Punk from The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers and Anti-Flag, Jimmy Barnes & ACDC from Australia, and Rabbitt, Arno Carstens, L.A. Cobra, and the Fismits from SA.   Ministry took care of the unusual with their cover of Bob Dylan's 'Lay Lady Lay'.  The new stuff came from Thunder with a cracker of a track called 'Last one Out, Turn Off The Lights' off their new album called All the Right Noise.  It's really good, Danny Bowes and Luke Morley on top form.  I figure that the track is about Brexit but that's just my opinion.  The back end of the show went a bit morbid with songs about death courtesy of Avenged Sevenfold, Soundgarden, and The Pretty Reckless with 'Harley Darling' and then it went surprisingly mellow with  Billy idols ' Kings and Queens of the Underground'.  Zakk Wylde's found a Friend was goose bumping to the extreme and we finished off with Lou Reed and a band called The Fismits.  The Fismits is Rebel Rocks Radio's very own Mark Biagio's outfit, he has done the guitar, vocals, and songwriting and this track called 'Questions' is as good as anything anyone has released ever.      Artists featured:  Danko Jones, Cinderella, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Uriah Heep, Queensrÿche, Coheed & Cambria, Jimmy Barnes, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Ministry, My Chemical Romance, Foo Fighters, Guns 'n' Roses, ACDC, Thunder, Q5, Rabbitt, Arno Carstens, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, Anti-Flag, Greta Van Fleet, Badlands, Avenged Sevenfold, Soundgarden, The Pretty Reckless, Billy Idol, Great White, L.A. Great to have Danny Bowes return to the CrowCast, for those not aware we first spoke with Danny months ago but sadly the audio wasn't usable for the Podcast, the episode is till available to watch via our YouTube channel. On this episode we catch up and see how Danny has been throughout the pandemic, we also chat about the stunning New Thunder releases 'All The Right Noises ' and the new book 'The First 50 years" thats in the works. This was a lovely laid back, comical episode jammed with so many entertaining stories. Thunder are an English hard rock band from London. Formed in 1989, the group was founded by former Terraplane members Danny Bowes (lead vocals), Luke Morley (guitar, backing vocals) and Gary 'Harry' James (drums), along with second guitarist and keyboardist Ben Mathews and bassist Mark "Snake" Luckhurst. Originally signed to EMI Records in the UK, the band released their debut album Backstreet Symphony in 1990, which reached number 21 on the UK Albums Chart and number 114 on the US Billboard 200. The 1992 follow-up Laughing on Judgement Day reached number 2, while both albums were certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). All nine singles released from the two albums reached the UK Singles Chart top 40.Luckhurst left the band in late 1992, and was replaced the following February by former Great King Rat bassist Mikael Höglund. The new lineup recorded only one studio album, Behind Closed Doors, which peaked at number 5 in the UK and spawned three UK top 40 singles. The 1995 compilation Their Finest Hour (And a Bit) reached number 22 in the UK and was certified silver by the BPI. Höglund left in 1996 and was replaced by Chris Childs, after Morley performed bass on fourth album The Thrill of It All, which reached the UK top 20. Thunder's 1998 live album Live reached number 35 on the UK Albums Chart, while the following year's fifth studio album Giving the Game Away reached number 49. The band broke up in early 2000 due to "outside business forces".After a brief hiatus, Thunder returned in 2002 and formed their own record label, STC Recordings. The band's sixth studio album Shooting at the Sun was released the following year, supported by the UK top 50 single "Loser". After three more new studio albums – 2005's The Magnificent Seventh, 2006's Robert Johnson's Tombstone and 2008's Bang! – Thunder decided to break up in 2009. Two years later, however, the group returned for a third active spell, scheduling a number of sporadic live shows over the following years. A tenth studio album, Wonder Days, was released on the earMusic label in 2015, giving the band their first UK top ten since 1995 when it peaked at number 9. Rip It Up followed in 2017, reaching a peak UK Albums Chart position of number 3.This has been edited from an episode from our weekly show that streams LIVE @ 9pm Every Tuesday on Facebook LIVE, TWITCH and YOUTUBE - https://youtu.be/wzZWwkzfx0U See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

All the President's Minutes is a podcast where conversations about movies, journalism, politics and history meet. Each show we use the seminal and increasingly prescient 1976 film All The President's Men as a portal, to engage with the themes and the warnings of the film resonating since its release. For minute 86, I join writer, critic, filmmaker and source of much Twitter joy, Danny Bowes. Danny and I discuss the desiccated ideal of American journalism, unguarded moments, and Pakula and Redford take film seriously as an art form. ----------------- About Danny Bowes ----------------- "New York-based Danny Bowes makes film and theatre pieces when he isn't writing criticism of many kinds. A constant (and constantly humourous) presence on Twitter, Bowes is deeply connected to the continuing saga of film and film criticism, bringing wit and enthusiasm to the stories behind classic films as well as the state of modern TV and movies. He started writing for Premiere, which led to many other gigs, many of them online, including dedicated himself to reviewing Bollywood films for Rogerebert.com, giving them the attention they aren't often afforded elsewhere. He communicates a love for his favourite auteurs that extends to their making project choices that play to their strengths. He lets his personal obsessions and loves drift into his writing because the success of the medium is personal to him. His writing on the state of criticism and his words in tribute of Roger Ebert aren't just relevant; they're deeply touching. He knows better than most that one must have a love for the medium to keep writing criticism because it isn't always a rewarding profession. He has an infectious conversational style, illuminating every aspect of a production with such glee that you can practically see his eyes lighting up as he discusses everything right with Kiss Me Deadly and Buckaroo Banzai. He's willing to go to bat not merely for films or artists he admires, but for the idea of a rational, civil critical conversation, an endangered species in 2014, making him a most vital voice." - Scout Tafoya, The Encyclopedia of Film Criticism ( http://www.punkeinfilm.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-encyclopedia-of-film-criticism.html ) , 2014 *Twitter:* @bybowes ( https://twitter.com/bybowes ) *Outlets:* Rogerebert.com, Premiere Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/one-heat-minute-productions/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

Hey, friends! It's time for another spooktacular episode of Mousterpiece Cinema! Josh and Scott are getting in the Halloween mood once again by looking back at what may be Tim Burton's best film, the 1994 biopic Ed Wood, starring Johnny Depp, Patricia Arquette, Martin Landau, and more. Josh and Scott are joined by friend of the show Danny Bowes to talk about all things Ed Wood, from his angora sweaters to Plan 9 From Outer Space. Plus, you might well be wondering why we changed our minds and aren't talking about Scream 2 this week. Good news: we answer that question in great detail, and with...uh...a lot of profanity. Seriously: this episode has enough language in it that Josh recorded a brief intro to make sure you're not taken off-guard. But now that you know, if you dare, check out the new show!
