Sure, the sacred can be found in meditation; but also, when standing in line at the grocery store and driving in traffic! This week we will explore Sacred Oneness, in both the expected and the unexpected. Often the “sacred” is seen as something separate or set apart from “everyday” life. It is defined as “dedicated or set apart; highly valued and important”. What if we could approach the sacred from a new angle? What if instead of being seen as something reserved for certain expressions, places, times and events, the sacred could be understood as connection to all that is, a mindset led by intention, and brought forth through an active, mindful and engaging energy? The sacred is found in all things….because it is all things. The adventure is in our ability to open our awareness to this reality and the sacredness that can be found in both the expected and the unexpected.

An-Najm meaning: The Star is the 53rd chapter of the Quran, with 62 verses The surah opens with the oath of the Divine One swearing by every one of the stars, as they descend and disappear beneath the horizon, that Muhammad is indeed God's awaited Messenger. It takes its name from chapter #1, which mentions "the stars" (najm). The surah confirms the divine source of the Prophet's message and refers to his ascension to heaven during the Night Journey (Ayah#1 ff.). The surah refutes the claims of the disbelievers about the goddesses and the angels (ayah#19 ff.), and lists several truths about God's power. It closes with a warning of the imminent Day of Judgement. The surah is distinguished as being the first that required Muslims to prostrate, or perform sajdah, when it is recited, according to Tafsir Ibn Kathir and a number of hadiths. The surah claims that, when it was first narrated by Muhammad in Mecca, all Muslims and non-Muslims who heard the recitation (except one man) prostrated to God upon its completion due to the effect that the words had upon them 1-5 Oath that Muhammad received the Quran from the Angel Gabriel 6-18 Description of the angelic visions vouchsafed to Muhammad 19-20 21-23 The revelation concerning Al Lát, Al Uzzah, and Manáh etc. 24-31 The vanity of trusting to the intercession of female deities 32-33 God almighty and omniscient 34-56 Rebuke of a man who employed another to bear his punishment on the judgment-day 57 Muhammad a preacher like other prophets 58 - 62 The judgment-day approacheth, therefore prepare for it The first eighteen verses of this surah are considered to be some of the earliest revelations of the Quran. These verses address the legitimacy of Muhammad's prophetic visions. The surah begins with the divine voice swearing by the collapsing star that "Your companion," referring to Muhammad, has not gone mad, nor does he speak out of his desire. The passage evokes the process of vision by tracing the movement along the highest horizon and then coming down and drawing near to the distance of "two bows" length. The passage ends with the affirmation of the validity of the vision by stating that the heart of the prophet "did not lie in what it saw." The surah is also known for referencing the star Sirius in verse 49, where it is given the name الشِّعْرَى (transliteration: aš-ši‘rā or ash-shira; the leader).[4] The verse is: "وأنَّهُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعْرَى", "That He is the Lord of Sirius (the Mighty Star)."[5] Ibn Kathir (d.1373) said in his commentary "that it is the bright star, named Mirzam Al-Jawza' (Sirius), which a group of Arabs used to worship."[1]: 53:49 The alternate (to Sirius) Aschere, used by Johann Bayer, is derived from this. The prostration in An-Najm (No. 53)(4)باب سَجْدَةِ النَّجْمِ Narrated `Abdullah bin Mas`ud: The Prophet (ﷺ) recited Surat-an-Najm (53) and prostrated while reciting it and all the people prostrated and a man amongst the people took a handful of stones or earth and raised it to his face and said, "This is sufficient for me. Later on I saw him killed as a non-believer."

EPISODE – Carla solo episode: The 12 Laws of Living SHOWNOTES The Law of Divine One – everything and everyone is connected. Every thought, action etc affects everyone else. We are all connected subconsciously. We are a part of One and we all want to see others thrive. The Law of Energy/Vibration – everything moves as frequency/vibration and each action and thought has its own frequency. Think positive then more positive things come. The Law of Action – each action will provide a different result. Each action must support our thoughts, dreams and goals for the world. The Law of Correspondence – we are in control of our life, every action we make will be reflected in our outer world and our inner world. Make the internal changes so that the external changes. The Law of Cause and Effect – it is each of our action that creates a reaction. Every statement you make is an example of this Law. What goes around comes around, there is karmic retribution The Law of Compensation – Blessings will come in various forms, money, gifts, friendships etc. Generosity and donations will come back to you. The Law of Attraction – This Law will bring people of things into our life by actions, thoughts or emotions. We use this energy to attract more energy. Once you start to raise your vibration, this will help to raise vibration of things that improve life on your own frequency. The Law of Perpetual Transformation of Energy – this law states that higher vibrations can transform and uplift the lower energies. If you want to create change, you vibrate higher and you let go of the lower energy that keeps you stuck. We want to create the life we desire. The Law of Relativity – in order for us to develop, we have to go through problems while keeping connected to the heart. Whenever we are facing challenges, there are other people worse off. The Law of Polarity – everything has an opposite. We have to experience the ups and downs of life, we have to feel to be sad, so we know what happiness feels like. The Law of Rhythm – everything has a different rhythm in each cycle so it's about getting ready to face the negative part of each cycle so you can recognize some of the things that are negative and then focus on seeing the benefits of this and looking at the positives and also recognizing that this is a cycle. The Law of Gender – this is about yin/yang and masculine/feminine energies. We all possess this. Energy, logic, husting, intellect = masculine energy. Love, patience, gentleness, nurturing etc = feminine energy. Showing and understanding where we can balance this.
While attention (being noticed and nurtured) is a need, we must be mindful about how we seek it. Getting attention in the wrong ways and from the wrong people can be damaging and deadly. The paradox is that attention can be positive and negative. Therefore, we must make sure that our sense of self-worth and identity is not determined by neither praise nor criticism. Our strength must be rooted in the Divine One who created us. We must resist performing on life's stage just for the applause or anything that can be fleeting like the wind. Instead of seeking out attention from others, give yourself the right attention to live the BEST life possible. Most importantly, take time to FOCUS on God, the one who created life and love. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/cherie-hardy/message

Concerning Sacred TextsMost inspired literature like the Qu'ran, Torah, Buddhist Sutras and Bible, have common themes and common misconceptions. At one level, they must be taken as allegorical, mainly because the depth of the spiritual concepts are not easily translated into common language. These books are rare because the experience of attaining this level of awareness takes its toll, and requires much sacrifice and effort. The spiritual understanding necessary to first hold those ideas is not something we experience every day. When an individual is catapualted into the interconnected realms, words become almost petty and senseless, their inability to transmit profundity require a complicated balancing of almost touching the concept but never realizing it, because words tend to lose their power at certain levels of awareness. We may find poetry, music, dance or art more direct than words. This requires the reader or listener to exert energy into re-translating what it means given the time, understanding, experience and knowledge of each individual.Other misconceptions may disrupt or pollute the initial explosion of a profound truth. History, culture, geography, and weather, all form and inform part of the context of the original text. The Prophet Mohammad was not only trying to bring the idea of one God to a disparate, illiterate, blood thirsty, gambling and drinking indigenous people, he was also trying to develop equality, compassion, respect and generosity to superstitious and miserly tribes. Imagine trying to help a people who cringe at the idea of any kind of change. Because language is human, it changes through the centuries. The texts must keep up to date. Understanding of science, new discoveries and therefore new facts and current truths must also be incorporated and dealt with appropriately. Discussion of miracles may refer to actual physical manifestations, not understood at the times. It does not diminish the idea of deity, but widens our appreciation of how benign and compassionate is the Divine One.In a sense, language is a living organism. It changes and adapts to the time, place and circumstances. Various revelations arise over time from both historical research, but also abuse and misinterpretations that need to be revisited in a new and less ‘charged' manner. One example might be the word ‘sin'. The word itself seems ‘charged' with the fire and brimstone sermons of evangelists. Perhaps a better or, at least, less ‘charged' interpretation, might be the term ‘mistake'. We will always make mistakes. That is how we learn. But to keep making the same mistake and not learning a better way is a flagrant, if not stupid, error. Or perhaps a way to think of ‘sin' is an113 action that causes damage to the soul.Very often a sacred text is the excuse of heinous and deplorable acts, thinking this is ‘our way of praising the One, when in reality, every sacred text considers any murder or abuse a sin, a corruption of the soul, a foul deed against all humankind. Compassion, generosity, humility and love are revealed as the commonality of all major belief systems. The Qu'ran, for example, makes exceptionally clear when it states, “There is no compulsion in religion.” Meaning, you cannot force another to believe in your religion. Week ThreeDecember 12, 2021Extended WarrantyPhilippians 4:4-7Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Philippians 4:4If you are a mainline, Protestant person of a certain age, you likely have a tune going through your head about now. “Rejoice… rejoice… and again I say, rejoice.” You may also be hearing that music as a round that will take a while to exit your brain. You may also be thinking of the lack of things to rejoice about over the past year. The “rejoicing” expressed in this text is not a happy kind of feeling. Instead, it's a call to a sense of total well-being in the promises of a Divine One whose desire is for our protection and peace. This is a total protection plan, the most extended warranty of warranties, far beyond anything a telemarketer could offer, regardless of how many times they call.Folks in Philippi get a reminder in this letter that while they may not live in the most welcoming neighborhood in the Roman empire, they are to trust their faith to lead them to a life of shalom, a peace that “exceeds human imagination” (Charles B. Cousar). They are reminded that their hearts and minds are also guarded by the Divine One, even as they navigate persecution from without and disagreements within their community. The folks of Philippi know that as faithful followers of Jesus, the one we await this season, they are expected to also share this encompassing love, this peace that “exceeds human imagination” outside of their community, even to those who persecute them, rejoicing in the Lord always and in all ways.Kurt GwartneySenior Director of CommunicationsInstructor, Center for Ministry and Lay Training See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

What the world needs now is daily bread. “Give us this day our daily bread” is not just an utterance of a memorized prayer, but a petition where all of The Divine One's creations can and will be nurtured, allowing them to flourish. Food is essential to any culture, simply because we gotta eat! But even with this understanding, “Around the world, more than enough food is produced to feed the global population—but as many as 811 million people still go hungry.” 30-40% of food produced in the United States, alone, will be wasted. Jesus's prayer to the disciples might push us a little bit further to think less about how stale our communion bread might be, more about who is starving at our open table, and what our food might be telling us to do. Day 1 From a letter to St. Agnes of Prague Place your mind in the mirror of eternity; Place your soul in the splendour of glory; Place your heart in the figure of the divine substance; And, through contemplation, transform your entire being into the image of the Divine One himself, So that you, yourself, may also experience what his friends experience when they taste the hidden sweetness that God alone has kept from the beginning For those who love him. The process of spiritual transformation takes time and patience, as they say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” But often our spiritual teachers tell us that the infinite Divinity that we each express in our own finite way has always existed, and so why does our reception of it seem to take so long? Why does becoming our “best self” tend to be riddled with setbacks, process, and seeming disappointments on both individual and societal scales? Well, we’re also told that the Divine One is a God of process – and that this allows for our freewill and deep engagement of compassion, social justice, and wisdom from a place of individualized love and acceptance. Indeed, we read that even “Jeh-with-us,” Jesus, underwent his own process of growth in the Christian gospels, which helped him “fulfill all righteousness,” and we discover similar stories in many of the world’s scriptures revealing how God works and helps us to work as well. Our community's affirming Swedenborgian spirituality, inspired by an interfaith, mystical Christianity, is centered on love and openness. It has deeply influenced the likes of Helen Keller, Carl Jung, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman), William Blake, Henry James, Robert Frost, DT Suzuki, and others.
"The Divine One", "die Göttliche" - allein schon ihr Spitzname wies sie als Legende aus. Sarah Vaughan zählte zu den Diven des Vokal-Jazz, ohne je die Bodenhaftung zu verlieren. Eine Frau mit einer außergewöhnlichen Stimme, wandlungsfähig wie keine andere. Von Karsten Mützelfeldt.
As Nila closed her eyes and sat to meditate, she disappeared. After 40 years of spiritual practice, at age 64 the truth was finally revealed. There remained just a shell in-filled with the only thing that really is: the power and presence of God Nila looked within and heard the eternal sound of the universe. She saw a radiant field of awareness and waves of heat and energy broke upon the inward shore. Only He/She existed within that space - nothing else - the illusion was shattered. The next day all Nila could do was cry for the blessing of that night. The tears continued for days. Tears of joy...of wonderment...of gratitude....of awe ...of amazement that this experience had arisen quite spontaneously, unbidden, and out of nowhere. God, by whatever name or pronoun you use, sees more in each of us than we show. The Divine One sees through our walls and justifications straight through to the Divine Spark in each of us. Is your Divine Light shrouded in a cloud because of past choices? Don't worry---welcome to humanity. The thing is what matters is what you do now. So there's still time to ignite your inner light of LOVE. Is your Divine Light bricked in by walls demanding to be in control? Let go of the need to play God---let God in and work to control YOU with gudance from your inner Light. God is within you guiding you to kind good choices. Do you listen? We used to sing songs in vacation Bible School that hold such truth: "This little Light of mine, I'm going to let it shine....;" "You've gotta have faith, hope and charity that's the way to live successfully....;" "Jesus love the little children, all the children of the world: red, and yellow, black and white they are precious to his sight, Jesus loves the little chidren of the world...." What happened? Simpler times when we believed the way was staying in line with LOVE and Kindness, keeping our inner Light alive and shining. You cannot change the past, but you can the present: Be Kind, See more in others than they show you...see their Divine Light. Take charge of you and let Your LIGHT shine, not to show you are right but to show you are KIND in your words and your deeds. BE LOVE PEACE BE WITH YOU Namaste M

Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in; 23who brings princes to naught, and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing. 24Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when he blows upon them, and they wither, and the tempest carries them off like stubble. 25To whom then will you compare me, or who is my equal? says the Holy One. 26Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these? He who brings out their host and numbers them, calling them all by name; because he is great in strength, mighty in power, not one is missing. 27Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, ‘My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God’? 28Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. 30Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; 31but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. On Thursday of this week I was spending some time visiting with Ginny Mattox, whom many of you know well, of course. She is, in many ways, a remarkable woman, smart as a whip, and has made quite a life for herself despite being born legally blind. She met her husband at a school for the blind in Iowa, and he became a successful piano tuner. She had children, worked various jobs over the years, and experienced a lot more heartache in this life than is perhaps fair, but she is, as they say, a persistent woman, and fiercely independent. Ginny joined the church a few years before I arrived, perhaps 8 years ago, after her former United Church of Christ congregation closed its doors, and she quickly found a place here amongst the Women’s Guild, and in the hearts of many of us. She is now 96 and can’t make it to church very often because of her health, but her heart is here, having found a new church home in this place. I asked her permission to share with you part of our conversation from this past Thursday, when she sharing a bit of her frustration at the fact that what little sight she always had has grown worse after a small stroke she experienced some months ago. It’s simply harder now to read things anymore, though thankfully she has an electronic enlarger that gives her some help. Nonetheless, it remains a real frustration, and, like many of us, she had grown upset and perhaps a bit depressed that she simply cannot do what she once did. And that certainly makes sense – we will all experience the frustrations that come with age, if we’re not already experiencing them right now in our lives. Together, we shared our mutual frustrations about the state of our bodies, and the state of the world, and then I began thinking of our text today, the one I knew I was preaching on, about Isaiah’s call to the people to remember, to remember who God is, the creator of all, and to remember all the times God has been indeed faithful, those times when God was there for the people of Israel, and was there for me and for her. “Have you not seen? Have you not heard” the prophet says as he points to God as creator, and to the mysterious ways God actually does move in this world, of how we cannot know the fullness of things. And from then on, Ginny and I found our conversation punctuated with each of us saying to each other “have you not heard? Have you not seen?” with laughter filling the room with the way the phrase could be worked into any topic of conversation. But we also laughed with the satisfaction that came with sharing moments when we once saw the hand of God being present in our lives, even as we sometimes have a hard seeing that very same hand in our current circumstances. Now, I don’t know who ministered to who on Thursday, but it was a good moment, and a deep reminder of how important it is in the life of faith that we remind each other of what the prophet Isaiah puts before us, that when things become dark, when life becomes stripped of hope, we need to remind ourselves, and to remind each other of who God is and how God done wondrous things not so long ago. The words we just heard are from what scholars call Second Isaiah, that is, a section of Isaiah believed to have been written after the disaster of the Babylon invasion of Jerusalem in 589 (BCE), and the eventual carting off of the best and brightest to the city of Babylon itself, something commonly known as the Babylonian Captivity. First Isaiah warns them about the invasion and then another writer who claimed Isaiah’s name, the aforementioned Second Isaiah he is often called, wrote and spoke to console and to give Israel comfort during that time of collective captivity in Babylon, and then a third person claiming Isaiah/ mantle, wrote after the people have returned from the Babylonian exile in 539. Most scholars think that three different writers took on the name of Isaiah, in order to speak to the people during these three distinct times. What we have before us in this text just now is reflective of a time when Israel had lost hope, when they are still in captive in Babylon, yearning to come back home again, and this Second Isaiah wants to remind them of who their God is, and what this God has done for them in the past, and he does this so beautifully by asking them to remember, to dig deep within their collective memory and remember how God has always been faithful to them. And Second Isaiah does this asking them this pivotal question, said in a different ways: “have you not heard, have you not seen”—do you not remember the creator, the one who has created all of these things, the heavens that have been stretched out, the rulers of this world that have been scattered by the hand of God? They come and go, these cruel and despotic rulers, and God simply blows them away like grass in the palm of God’s hands. Isaiah says that this is a God who is both near and far, both other and beautifully intimate, so much so that God calls us—each of us, and all of creation—by name. God remembers our names, that is how intimate God is with us, even as Isaiah says that this God is one who metaphorically sits above it all, and sees the inhabitants of this world as grasshoppers—both far and near, is Israel’s God. Have you not known this, Isaiah asks, have you not heard, and always known, that God is here and that God remains present in this world? This is a God who is with Israel in their times of deep trouble, deep despair, as they were in Babylon, and this is the same God who is with us, when all seems lost, and there is no way out, no hope left, and no point to going on. What those in captivity in Babylon forgot and we seem to so often forget, is that faith, that trust, comes with memory, with remembering who God is, and remembering those moments in our lives when we have seen and experienced God’s faithfulness, God’s movements in our lives. We so often forget our own stories, our memories of those times when God arrived “right on time,” as some of the old African-American preachers used to say, and we forget those ways that God spoke to us through family and friends, strangers, and sometimes, sometimes even through enemies of ours. I know that when I get scared, when I get fearful about the future, about my personal future, or the future of something or someone I care about, or even fearful about the future of this country that I love so much, I know that I am experiencing fear because I’ve forgotten to remember the ways that God has always taken care of me, has always taken care of those that I love and even struggle to love, though not in ways that I always expected, or even wanted. I forget about those moments when I thought there was no way out, there was no hope, no nothing for the future, and yet, here came the future, and it was often more than I could have ever wished for. God arrived “right on time.” But why do we forget about the past when we are in the midst of our present despair, why do we not ask ourselves and others that key question “have you heard, have you not seen” during our difficult times? Why did the people of Israel forget about God’s eternal faithfulness to them, as they were languishing in Babylon? Was it because they chose not to remember or they simply forgot to remember the God of whom this text speaks, the one who reminds them of who this Divine One is, the one who stretches out the heavens above them, and yet who knows them—and us—each by name? Maybe it’s because we get so wrapped up in the moment, the present, that latest flurry of crazy tweets by our President, or whatever, that we somehow forget that the present moment has not been the ONLY moment in our lives, or in the life of this country or of this world—we forget that we have a history, a memory of the ways God has loved us and held us, and done great and wonderful things in our lives. We become so stressed out about the future—our financial futures, the future of our marriages and our relationships, the future of our children, the future of this country—we are so stressed about the future because we have forgotten to remember, to remember our true stories of the past, and thus it is causes us so much unnecessary pain. Don’t get me wrong – these are troubled times, and some of us are in troubled space in our lives, really troubled spaces, and its important never to pretend or push people past the truth that some of us are actually being held captive in Babylon, are suffering real and profound heartache, if not trauma. But the perhaps the key to life is to balance out that reality with another truth, with another reality, the one where we remember who God is, and has been, and will be, and we remember those other moments in our lives when we were back in Babylon, in despair – and somehow, and some way, God found a way out for us when there was no way out. So, I invite you to ask yourself this week, this Advent season, this season of waiting, to ask yourself this question, when despair settles in, when hopelessness seems to be your constant companion, to ask yourself these two questions – have you not heard? Have you not seen? Have you not heard that this past Friday was World AIDS Day, a day some of us remember those we have lost to the other side of the veil, and we remember those dark times when the funerals of young, beautiful men and women came upon us so quickly, and how the world seemed as if it would be wiped by this virus, and the gay male community itself would be wiped out as well, by both the virus and hatred, bigotry and fear hurled at it? And yet, have you seen those who at the edge of death be resurrected to life, of how a demonized and hated community would one day be able to witness what seemed impossible to have happened, marriage equality, only years after some spoke of rounding up gay men and putting them into internment camps? Babylon has fallen and will always fall, will always disintegrate before the mighty power of our God. Friends, have you not heard, have you not seen? And have you not heard how the Christian church is about to collapse under the weight of its abandonment of justice, because of its acceptance and embrace, in some parts of church, of a predator of children, all for the sake of political power, as the church has so often done in the past? And yet have you not seen the Christian ministers this past week in our nation’s capital speaking aloud the 2000 verses in the Bible that give witness to God’s preference for the weak, the lowly, the powerless, God’s preference for those in captivity in Babylon, and have you not seen these brave ministers being carted off to jail for this act of civil disobedience? The Babylonian captivity of the church will one-day end, soon and very soon, because God will not abandon her children to the hands of King Nebuchadnezzar forever. Friends, have you not heard and have you not seen? And friends, have you not heard the struggle of parents seeking children of their own, who endured pain and suffering for the sake of those whom they do not yet know, those they have longed for? And yet have you not seen God doing the miraculous, of God promising what cannot be, and that promise being made true, and have you not heard of Love being born in a manger, to parents of no seeming worth, in a poor nation held captive to the Babylon of its time, to Rome? Babylon will hold sway, Babylon will murder Love itself on a cross, but Love cannot be killed, Love cannot be vanquished, Love cannot be buried and forgotten – it will rise, it always rise again. Friends, have you not heard, and have you not seen? Friends I have seen and I have heard. Have you? And when the waiting for the birth of our Lord seems to be too long, too painful, when the waiting for the end of Babylon seems like it will never come, let us gather together in places like this, and ask ourselves, “friends have you not heard, have you not seen?” And let us respond with the truth, with truth we’ve buried away while we were in despair in the dungeons of Babylon, and that truth is this: we have seen, we have heard, and because of that we shall do as the prophets Isaiah says we shall do. We shall wait for the Lord and she shall renew our strength, and we shall shall mount up with wings like eagles, and we shall run and not be weary, and we shall walk and not be faint. Blessed be our God, forever and ever. Friends, have you not heard, and have you not seen?
