The Wynchester series is the best at funny sibling dynamics but this one fell a bit short for us in the romance department. YMMV, but we needed a bit more heat and bonding between the romantic pairing.

The opening question for Season 3 Episode 7: do you say "Sunny and Renaissance" or "Renaissance and Sunny"??? Following our typical three part structure, we discuss a listener submitted hot take, a movie we watched together, and recommend each other media. Our lovely patron Elle (we appreciate our patrons so much!! https://www.patreon.com/TheLavenderMenace) submitted a hot take about misandry, which led Sunny to bring up Men's Rights Activists groups working on twisting civil rights law. You can find more info about what Sunny is talking about in this article: https://jezebel.com/men-accused-of-sexual-misconduct-on-campuses-are-suing-1848347194. Then, we discuss white women and misandry, and recommend the books They Were Her Property by Stephanie Jones-Rogers and Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall. We go on to discuss the movie The Birth of a Nation, transmisogyny, and getting discriminated against for an identity you don't even hold. Renaissance complains more about male feminists and the desire for oppressed groups to have all the answers. For our shared media portion of the episode, we discuss Saving Face (2004) Alice Wu, which we mentioned in our previous episode. We compare our Letterboxd star ratings, and Sunny compares the movie to Lulu Wang's The Farewell, and Wu's other movie The Half of It . Finally, Renaissance recommends HBO's Big Little Lies, and Sunny recommends the books The Perks of Loving A Wallflower by Erica Ridley and Sabrina & Corina by Kali Fajardo-Anstine. Thank you for being a listener! You can find us on Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, Letterboxd, and Patreon at The Lavender Menace Podcast.

Moira Quirk brings an easy charm to a queer Regency romance between bluestocking Philippa York and rakish master of disguise Thomasina “Tommy” Wynchester. Host Jo Reed and AudioFile's Emily Connelly talk about the fun of listening to Moira animate all the many characters in this audiobook, including the clever women of Philippa's beloved reading circle and Tommy's remarkable family. Tommy always sounds full of confidence—except when she's near Philippa. When a case of plagiarism brings the two together, Tommy dons the disguise and bravado of Baron Vanderbeen, finally giving her the courage to approach Philippa. Quirk amplifies the humor and the romance as the two work together and slowly discover a deep attraction that absolutely sparkles on audio. Throughout our convo, one thing kept coming up: this book is perfectly executed. It leans into plenty of romance novel tropes while throwing others right on their head and resists the obvious path. We were very very charmed by this story and definitely recommend it.

We say we want the life partner...yet we focus on qualities that make a great prom date. Let's unpack with Logan Ury about the surprising science that will help you find love – and how she's learned firsthand what really matters in a long-term partner when life doesn't always go smoothly. We discuss swiping past perfect matches (as she did initially with her now-husband Scott), filtering for the qualities that really matter, and how to date smarter knowing the irrational behavior we may possess.
