His art is published along with the other writers' and illustrators' stories and art in the international bestselling anthology, L. David grew up in Broomall PA, right outside of Philadelphia and not too far from several museums that would direct his love of illustration for the rest of his life. David was raised on adventure stories, magical tales of Lions, Dwarves, Elves, and heroes of all ages. The one thing these stories had in common were amazing pictures illustrated by artists who lived very close to where David first learned to love art. From N.C. Wyeth, Howard Pyle, and Jessie Wilcox Smith, to the artistic legends who are alive today. Still brightening the world with every brushstroke they make, David revels in his appreciation of art and how it has shaped his foundation from an early age. David loves to create narrative paintings that tell the stories between the lines. There is a mystery to be found in his works, that represents who he is as an artist, and how he sees the world. He cannot wait to share his world with you. HOLLYWOOD - Lancaster, California artist Ms. C.L. Fors is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest and was honored along with ten other artists and twelve writers at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, California on April 10th. Her art is published along with the other writers' and illustrators' stories and art in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41 which was officially released on April 22nd 2025. CL Fors—Cherrie to her friends—was born to a mad-scientist and a mad-artist, so it's no surprise she's cultivated lifelong dual passions for art and science that shape her career in writing and illustrating science fiction and fantasy. Cherrie has lived all over the US and now calls the Southern California desert her home, where her family tethers are. She shares her life, love, and creative endeavors with her husband, four clever children, and beloved art family. Cherrie spent her early years obsessed with story and the many ways to tell it through drawing, writing, sculpting, and performing—sketching for hours, cobbling together ‘creatures' from whatever she could find in the back of junk-drawers, or staring into marbles and imagining she could step through into another world. Cherrie served in the military and raised a family, but she knew she had to find a way back to her creative path. In 2012, she made a commitment to write her stories and, over the next ten years, wrote, illustrated, and published four science fiction novels. She also began submitting short stories and illustrations to Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contests which she uses to strengthen her skills and as a goal-post to keep striving. Her ambition for the future is to find publishers for her finished manuscripts and finish her first graphic novel. You can find her work at www.clforsauthor.com and her Patreon, The Art of CL Fors: sci-fi, fantasy, bat-piggies, oh my! HOLLYWOOD - Alexandria, Virginia author T.R. Naus is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest and was honored along with eleven other writers and eleven artists at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, California on April 10th. His story, "Storm Damage," is published along with the other writers' and illustrators' stories and art in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41 which was officially released on April 22nd 2025. T.R. Naus emerged from a love of exploration. He grew up traveling across Europe, Asia, and the United States as a military brat and a soldier in the US Army, developing a passion for wandering, adventures, and intriguing stories. His journey led him to experience fascinating cultures and subcultures, where he learned from inspiring people, but with each new encounter, he wondered how evolving technology impacts how we see ourselves and the communities around us. He eventually settled in Virginia with his wife and two daughters and turned to speculative fiction to express those anxieties-and hopes-about our future. The Contest, one of the most prestigious writing and illustrating competitions in the world, is currently in its 42nd year and is judged by some of the premier names in speculative fiction.
BROOKLYN WRITER WINS GRAND PRIZE AT HOLLYWOOD AWARDS EVENT Featured in New Release HOLLYWOOD - Brooklyn, New York writer Randyn Bartholomew is the Grand Prize Winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest earning him the Golden Pen Award trophy and a $5,000 cash prize. His winning story, "Ascii," is published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41 which will be officially released on April 22nd. Mr. Bartholomew was honored along with the other winners in the Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contests on April 10th at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, California. Born in New York state on pi day, Randyn grew up in the nearby New Jersey towns of Maplewood and Summit. Although majoring in math at Cornell, he's since switched gears to become a Brooklyn-based freelance writer of science journalism, ghost writing, copywriting, and, whenever possible, fiction. His articles have appeared in Scientific American, Salon, The Washington Post Magazine, among others. He enjoys running in Prospect Park, reading old books and new, and finding free lectures to attend. While he reads eclectically, his main love is science fiction. When people frown at this preference (or, much worse, smile politely) he calls in the cavalry and reminds himself of the Ray Bradbury quote, “I have never listened to anyone who criticized my taste in space travel, sideshows or gorillas. When this occurs, I pack up my dinosaurs and leave the room.” He's been using a flip phone for the last four years. The Contest, one of the most prestigious writing and illustrating competitions in the world, is currently in its 42nd year and is judged by some of the premier names in speculative fiction. WASHINGTON ARTIST HONORED AT HOLLYWOOD AWARDS GALA Featured in New Release HOLLYWOOD - Washington, Utah artist Ms. Tremani Sutcliffe is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest and was honored along with ten other artists and twelve writers at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, California on April 10th. Her art is published along with the other writers' and illustrators' stories and art in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41 which will be officially released on April 22nd 2025. Tremani Sutcliffe, born in 1990 in Provo, Utah, spent her early years exploring the rugged landscapes of middle-of-nowhere Arizona, where hiking in desert mountains and catching rattlesnakes ignited her adventurous spirit. Her passion for art stemmed from her love of books, and the fantastical covers that inspired her imagination. In true bookworm fashion, her artistic journey began at the local library, where she immersed herself in art instruction books, laying the foundation for her artistic journey. Through daily practice, relentless pursuit of new skills, and seeking mentorship from established artists, her commitment to learning new methods has continuously expanded her artistic repertoire. Tremani views art as a fusion of technique and creativity that brings beauty and meaning to life. After spending most of her young life drawing and painting with watercolors, she expanded her skillset to include oils. Although she also began working with acrylics, she quickly decided they must have been invented by an angry dude with horns and a pitchfork for the sole purpose of making her life miserable….and decided to develop her digital painting skills instead. The Illustrators of the Future Contest judges include, Bob Eggleton (11 Chesley Awards and 9 Hugo Awards), Larry Elmore (Dungeons & Dragons book covers), Echo Chernik (graphic designs for major corporations including Celestial Seasonings tea packaging), Rob Prior (art for Spawn, Heavy Metal comics and Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Ciruelo (Eragon Coloring Book).
Patrick MacPhee is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest earning him a trip to Hollywood for a week-long master-class workshop, an awards event and his winning story will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41. As a young child, Patrick frequently saw his mother engrossed in a forest's worth of fantasy and science fiction novels. Wanting to join in the fun, he read his first ‘big-person' novel, The Fellowship of the Ring, when he was eight.Although far above his reading level, he pushed through, several hours a day, taking literally longer to reach Rivendell than Sam and Frodo. This magical experience hooked him on speculative fiction forever. In his teens, he was bit by the writing bug and later abandoned a degree in engineering to pursue a degree in English literature. He fell into teaching, first as a way to support his writing hobby/habit, then as a vocation where he was lucky enough to spend every day helping young people become better versions of themselves.Over a twenty-year teaching career, Patrick has taught phys-ed (i.e. dodgeball) to Fortnite-obsessed middle schoolers, the enigmatic complexity of Hamlet to university-bound high schoolers and everything in between. He has learned that almost every part of the curriculum has room for a little humor — sometimes a lot of humor. When he's not writing fantasy and science fiction, Patrick enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons with his wife and two children and going on long walks in the woods with his golden retrievers, Ciri and Arwen.http://patrickmacphee.comhttps://writersofthefuture.com/

Leatherhead, Surrey, England writer Andrew Jackson is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest earning him a trip to Hollywood for a week-long master-class workshop, an awards event and his winning story will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41. Andrew Jackson started writing and illustrating since age twelve and never gave up the former but (thankfully for his readers) has stopped the latter! One of his earliest memories is of watching Star Trek with his dad and falling in love with the speeding ships, bizarre aliens, and the diamond glitter of myriad stars in that eternal blackness. Even now, as he explores the strange new worlds of family, fatherhood, and a career in retail, he's never lost his love for the stars. Counting authors such as Stephen King, Iain M. Banks, and Alastair Reynolds amongst his literary influences, he revels both in reading and writing rich, tangible worlds other than our own. Born too late to watch the Apollo missions but too early for interstellar travel he must content himself with dreams and the sad knowledge that he may never know what's out there. Is there anybody out there? Why aren't they talking? Budapest, Hungary artist Ms. Marianna Mester is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest earning her a trip to Hollywood for a week-long master-class workshop, an awards event and her winning art will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41. Marianna Mester was born in Hungary and spent her childhood in a small village. From a young age, she was drawn to painting and admired those who could create works of art. Growing up, she didn't have much time to pursue it, but ten years ago, she made a decision to take her painting to a high level and began studying various artistic styles. She practiced relentlessly, experimenting with countless techniques, and now she's able to paint in about nine different styles. Everything Marianna knows, she learned on her own without attending any formal art school, so she's especially proud that people appreciate my work. Her parents started calling her “Manna” and now that has become her artist name with even her friends calling by that name as well. Her goal is to bring beauty into as many lives as possible because, for her, painting is not just art, it's life itself, a true expression of freedom. Savannah, Georgia student Ms. Jordan Smajstrla is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest earning her a trip to Hollywood for a week-long master-class workshop, an awards event and her winning art will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41. Jordan is originally from Boerne, Texas and is currently studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Jordan Smajstrla was born in 2003 in Houston, Texas, and has been drawing for as long as she can remember thanks to the encouragement of her parents. She attributes her admiration of fantasy art in particular to her childhood interests, which included reading any book she could get her hands on,

In previous professional lives he researched and wrote about international relations, weapons of mass destruction, and terrorism. He taught at universities in the U.S., Costa Rica, and Switzerland and was kissed by a dancing horse in Siberia. Now he expands the universe of online learning as an instructional systems designer and writes about swords, sorcery, robots, aliens, and magic rabbits as a member of the Wulf Pack writer's group. Growing up, she spent most of her allowance in the Bookmobile. During the summer, she walked nearly two miles to the nearest library to devour every fantasy and science fiction book she could find. She wrote her first SF story when she was thirteen. It wasn't very good, but she was determined to keep writing. Attending Viable Paradise workshop helped improve her craft. The first time she got the courage to hit submit, it was to the Writers of the Future Contest. Her stories have appeared in Factor Four Magazine, Wyld Flash, Ruth and Ann's Guide to Time Travel Anthology Vol. 2 and 100-Foot Crow. Sandra lives with her husband in suburban New Jersey. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41. To Jefferson, the Fantasy genre is a grand cathedral, and he loves the gargoyles who guard its buttresses, anti-heroes like Logen Ninefingers and Tyrion Lannister. But as fun as those characters are, Jefferson believes we're not getting enough stories about the figures still inside the nave, the everyday parishioners, the Samwise Gamgees and Neville Longbottoms of the congregation. We still need stories about ordinary people d The Illustrators of the Future Contest judges include, Bob Eggleton (11 Chesley Awards and 7 Hugo Awards), Larry Elmore (Dungeons & Dragons book covers), Echo Chernik (graphic designs for major corporations including Celestial Seasonings tea packaging), Rob Prior (art for Spawn, Heavy Metal comics and Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Ciruelo (Eragon Coloring Book). As a result, he is now strongly superstitious. Originally from the deserts of the American West, Jack now wanders the urban forests of Virginia with his wife and daughter. John Brown was a winner published in Writers of the Future Volume 13 with his story “The Scent of Desire” under his penname Bo Griffin. I met up with him again last year at LTUE and when I saw he would be back, I asked that he send me a book to read so I could have him on as a guest. His bio says he writes action-packed thrillers and epic fantasies with characters you want to cheer for. After interviewing him, I discovered it is Magic Realism that he writes. He currently lives with his wife and four daughters in the hinterlands of Utah where one encounters much fresh air, many good-hearted ranchers, and the occasional wolf.

Since then, his stories have often explored how our relationship with the natural world is intertwined with our spiritual journeys—as individuals, as communities, and as a collective humanity. Lance is also an avid astronomy and space-travel nut, and he found the germ of his story “Five Days Until Sunset” at the intersection of pondering the spiritual search that never ends and wondering what life might be like on a tidally locked, “eyeball” planet. The story also asks what it means to live in harmony with a world that is ready to kill you, and what it means to have faith in the face of inconvenient truths.

Growing up in a tiny English village on the Essex coastline, their imaginations were sparked at an early age by the ancient woodland and salty marshes. As children, they drew comics, wrote stories, and constructed elaborate fairy worlds. Later on, they shared a house in Manchester and began talking about writing stories together more seriously. Much studying and research ensued, in which time they realised that writing was the only place they could really return to the freedom and imagination of their childhood. It was an escape, but also a place where they felt most at home. Jennifer Mellen was born in 1988 in Salt Lake City and raised in Magna, Utah. Guelly was inspired to follow in her mother's footsteps by watching her mother create beautiful drawings on any paper she could get her hands on. Her mother continues to be Guelly's main inspiration and biggest motivation to keep creating artwork and to improve. Painting has been the media she gravitates toward most. Her bedroom walls have often served as canvas for elaborately painted murals; later to be painted over to do it all again. As Guelly's art became more serious she switched acrylic for oils and bedroom walls for actual canvases, all while focusing on portraits with a surrealist style. She is motivated and excited to see how her art will evolve and where it will take her.

So she got a respectable degree from a respectable university, and then immediately decided to disappoint her parents by announcing she'd write stories instead of contracts. This is her first time actually selling one.

Chatting With Sherri welcomes award-winning writer, Devon Bohm ! Devon is a poet and writer who received her BA from Smith College and her MFA in Poetry and Fiction from Fairfield University. At Fairfield, Bohm became increasingly frustrated with the denial of genre fiction as “Literature” and began exploring the big question of why people were attracted to different forms of speculative fiction. The answer she found didn't surprise her, as it was what she'd always valued about her favorite writers: genres like fantasy or science-fiction perform the same function of all good literature by finding new and inventive ways to help the reader see their world (and self) more clearly. Devon is a winner in our international contest, The Writers of the Future and her winning story, "Kitsune," is published in L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 39

Johnson, one of 12 winners in the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest earned herself a trip to Hollywood, a week-long master-class workshop and winning stories will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 39. J. R. grew up in the folded Appalachian hills where she learned to love Fall, blueberries straight from the bush, and the stream beneath the willows near her house. The fact that Fall is inevitably followed by Winter, that picking berries meant crossing paths with bears, and that the stream was laced with dioxins may also have impacted her outlook. She holds a Ph.D. (Urban Studies & Planning), an M.S. (Geography), and a B.A. (History). Her work has appeared in Writers of the Future, Triangulation: Energy, Nature: Futures, and other publications. Martin L. Shoemaker is a writer with a lucrative programming habit. As a child he told stories to imaginary friends and learned to type on his brother's manual typewriter even though he couldn't reach the keys. (He types with the keyboard in his lap still today.) He couldn't imagine any career but writing fiction . . . until his algebra teacher said, “This is a program. You should write one of these.” Fast forward 30 years of programming, writing, and teaching. He was named an MVP by Microsoft for his work with the developer community. He is an avid role-playing gamemaster, but that didn't satisfy his storytelling urge. He wrote, but he never submitted until his brother-in-law read a chapter and said, “That's not a chapter. That's a story. Send it in.” It won second place in the Jim Baen Memorial Writing Contest and earned him lunch with Buzz Aldrin. Programming never did that! Martin hasn't stopped writing (or programming) since. His work has appeared in Analog, Galaxy's Edge, Digital Science Fiction, and select service garages worldwide. His novellaMurder on the Aldrin Express was reprinted in The Year's Best Science Fiction: Thirty-First Annual Collection and in Year's Top Short SF Novels 4. In addition, Martin's work has appeared in Clarkesworld, Analog Science Fiction/Science Fact, Galaxy's Edge, Digital Science Fiction, Forever Magazine, Humanity 2.0, The Year's Top Short SF Novels 4, Writers of the Future Volume 31, Time Travel Tales, Trajectories, Little Green Men: Attack!, The Glass Parachute, and The Year's Best Science Fiction: Thirty-First Annual Collection. Martin's Clarkesworld short story "Today I Am Paul" was nominated for a Nebula award by the Science Fiction Writers of America and received the Small Press Award from the Washington Science Fiction Association. “Today I Am Paul” has also appeared in The Best Science Fiction of the Year Volume 1, The Year's Best Science Fiction & Fantasy 2016 Edition, The Year's Best Science Fiction: Thirty-Third Annual Collection, and The Year's Top Ten Tales of Science Fiction 8, as well as seven international translations. Blue Collar Space is the name for Martin's series of near-space, near-future hard science fiction stories. These stories are set on Luna, on Mars, in Jupiter orbit, and everywhere in between. It includes the award-winning stories "Scramble" (second place, Jim Baen Memorial Short Story Award, 2012), "Unrefined" (third place, Writers of the Future, 2014), and "Racing to Mars" (first place, Analog Science Fiction/Science Fact Analytical Laboratory award, 2016), as well as numerous other short stories, novelettes, and novellas. His novella "Murder on the Aldrin Express" was reprinted in Year's Best Science Fiction: Thirty-First Annual Collection. Find out more at: Shoemaker.Space

I loved their work, their passion for the field, and how they were willing to give back and share their wisdom with artists like me, who at the time really needed someone to take me under their wing. They taught me how to pursue my career, how to avoid pitfalls as an artist. They made themselves available if I or any of the other artists needed it. They became an invaluable resource in my life and helped to shape my career today.
