On this episode of "Be Heard Talk," Selena Hill, Stanley Fritz, Evan Mastronardi, and Tiffany Brown talked about toxic masculinity and hip hop culture in light of recent accusations that Chris Stylezz, the former host of D’ussé Palooza, was sexually coercive toward several women and that Global Grind writer Blogxilla sexually harassed his coworkers.
Frankie Biggz Remix Ft. Chris Brown & Ana Baby, Dalia Chih With her talent, beauty, and charisma, Ana Baby is undisputedly one of the most promising and highly sought after artists in 2018. Being in a male-dominated industry is a non-factor, and will not impede on Ana Baby’s ability to distinguish herself from the rest in an era where female rappers are spreading their word and making a substantial impact on the music industry. The Bronx native’s gritty street edge and sex appeal coupled with her thought- provoking punchlines have led her single “Ride” to stand at #127 on the DRT Global Top 200 Airplay Chart for online radio during its 3rd week in rotation. Ana teamed up with platinum producer Trilogy (who is known for the work he has done with artists like Chris Brown and Troy Ave) to produce the catchy and probing tune we know as “Ride”. Ana Baby has performed in front of over 10,000 roaring fans, opening for prominent artists such as Lil Durk, Vado, and French Montana. She’s also been featured in GlobalGrind, Vibe, Thisis50, and many more blogs following her first critically acclaimed mixtape, “The Evil Queen,” which featured the likes of Hip- Hop heavyweights Jadakiss, and the late Chinx Drugz. Additionally, she has also worked with Emanny and Fred The Godson on her single “Find Another.” Her “TALKIN BOUT” music video has over 6 million views, while “TURNTUP FT. JADAKISS” has over 3 million views on Worldstarhiphop.com. This eventually created tremendous buzz, hence, establishing her heavy social media following on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube (@therealanababy). . When I had back surgery, my doctor told me everything that would happen except for one thing: there would be machines on my legs pumping my blood. I woke up and immediately thought I was paralyzed. If my doctor had told me this was going to happen, it would have saved me that moment of fear. It's true in business, too. Expectations have to be clear on both sides. What is common knowledge to you, is often a foreign idea to others. If you start with clear communication, it's less likely that you will end up in an adversarial position with your customer. To dive deeper into the idea of better communication, I've brought on international keynote speaker, author, trial attorney, and podcast host Heather Hansen. Heather is an esteemed voice in her field, she has appeared on CNN, CBS, MSNBC, and Fox News, and contributed to Global Grind, Thrive Global, and KevinMD. Heather has done pro bono work with the Support Center for Child Advocates. In her forthcoming book, The Elegant Warrior: How to Win Life's Trials Without Losing Yourself, Heather gathers lessons from the courtroom and shows readers how they can use their complaints, discoveries, questions, and objections to find their own voices and win arguments, without losing themselves in the process. Armed with the tools and techniques she's honed in the courtroom, Hansen makes the case that anyone can become an Elegant Warrior: someone who fights adversity with grace and compassion, and battles without losing respect for themselves and their adversaries. Download this episode now to learn how to advocate for yourself. THE WARRIOR OF PERSUASION “I learned to use the tools I used to advocate for others to advocate for myself outside of the courtroom.” - Heather Hansen Highlights - If you're having a really bad day, imagine your life is a comedy instead of a tragedy. It starts with credibility and builds to trust. How do you maintain your elegance when the stakes are high? The curse of knowledge: when you know more than the person with whom you're communicating. The words that come naturally to you might not come naturally to the other person. What we do in personal relationships will work in professional relationships. You have to communicate seven times in seven ways for a jury to understand. Decide whether to get dirty. You can fight fire with fire, but be aware that that's what you're doing. Journey to self-acceptance Quite often we hear phrases like “if you don't love yourself, no one will love you” or “you must love yourself.” But what does that even mean? Honestly, there is no standard meaning of self-love or self-acceptance. Each and every person has a different way of expressing love to themselves. It is, however, important to note that this is not something that you can derive from the number of followers you have on social media, or the way you dress, or the expensive car you drive…. the list is endless. You may feel good about those things but that does not translate to self-love. Loving and accepting yourself involves treating yourself with respect, gentleness as well as taking care of your wellbeing as you would a friend. Self-love is a way of responding to your inadequacies, imperfections, challenges, mistakes with self-compassion and kindness rather than beating yourself up. In that regards, self-love is critical to living a fulfilled, happy life. As Necole puts it, self-acceptance is loving who you are when you’re stripped off every title that you bear. Her name probably rings a bell from Necole Bitchie. Necole Kane is the name behind the popular entertainment blog. She is currently Editor in Chief and IFBB Pro and a Bikini competitor. In pursuit of her quest to inspire and empower young women, Necole founded xoNecole.com, a defined platform for young women to share their personal stories and indulge in career, beauty and relationship tips, as well speak their minds on the latest in culture news and politics. Previously, she successfully ran an award-winning celebrity gossip blog that was recognized as one of the leading and fastest growing urban gossip sites on the internet, appealing to readers from publications such as The Huffington Post, The Boston Globe, Cosmopolitan, CNN, Global Grind, and receiving awards like Black Enterprise’s Black Blogger of the Month, Ebony Magazine’s Power 100, Soul Train Music Award for Best Soul Site. Necole was the first blogger to appear in BET’s 106th and Park, all while being featured in Essence, Sister 2 Sister, Honey, The Source, J’Adore, Rolling Out and more. In this episode, you're going to hear one of the most amazing, inspiring stories you have ever heard on the podcast. You will end the episode not only falling in love with her but also falling in love with yourself. So without further ado, I am so excited and delighted to introduce to you IFBB Bikini Professional Necole Kane. In this episode of the Global Grind series, we tackle the ethics behind NGO’s. We’ve witnessed NGO’s such as the Red Cross raise money for causes. However, these countries didn’t receive the aid they needed. So, how do you find out if this NGO is ethical enough to work for? We pulled these preliminary questions from 20 Crucial Questions to Ask Before Working for a Social Good Organization to ask when vetting an NGO: 1. What are the financials and can you see how the NGO spends its money? 2. Does the organizational operate ethically? How might culture, fundraising, and organizational gain impact its ethics? 3. How is the organization’s impact measured? Who is responsible for determining the impact and evaluating results? Start Grinding Research Guide Star to find NGO’s who are providing the transparency you need to feel comfortable with moving forward. In this episode of Global Grind, we discuss how to leverage your content to create visibility so you can get abroad. We dive a bit deeper into the different social media platforms and their effectiveness. Such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. We also learned about a few others that you could add to your toolbelt. Once you’ve decided on a platform then pick a niche and begin indexing your industry knowledge online. And sometimes the narrower the topic the better. We help you to think about the following: 1. Use your content as an excuse to reach out to thought leaders and start conversations. 2. It’s not about the number of people who read your content it’s about making sure you have quality content. 3. Obtain the data from the social media platform that you chose, so you can better understand your audience. Start Grinding 1. Create a social media account on any of the platforms we’ve talked about (or one that resonates with you). 2. Post a piece of content, it can range from a small tweet to a full-blown blog post. 3. Engage one industry leader either through a tweet or a DM to start building connections. Do you have more questions? Or a topic you want us to unpack? Any feedback? In this episode of Global Grind, we have a thoughtful discussion about networking. Some people hate it and some people love it. You can grow to love it if you shift your perspective and have a different approach to expanding your network. We help you to think of the following: 1. Don’t go for the big ask right away. Like dating, you flirt first before asking them to dinner, so with networking build a genuine rapport with the people you want to connect with. 2. Don’t be afraid to be candid. Let the person know what you’re struggling with especially if it’s something they too have struggled with. It’s a great way to relate. 3. Your approach should always focus on THEM. First, see what you can offer them and how you can help them with what they’re doing. Because over time, when you give someone value they’ll return the favor. 4. Know that it takes time, therefore, enjoy the journey. If someone doesn’t respond just keep trying. And at the end of the episode, we give you an action plan to help you get your international journey started. Bonus: Google your name and see what comes up. If there is a picture of you riding a mechanical bull topless while holding a Budweiser, remove that image from Google. You should be ashamed of yourself, who drinks Budweiser?! Start Grinding 1. Over the next week, add at least two new connections on LinkedIn who are currently living in the city you want to live in (ideally they are expats). 2. Start one conversation over social media with someone who is currently living in the city you want to live in (this person could be one of your new LinkedIn contacts. Do you have more questions? In this episode, we help you to narrow down what an international career is––as this term is very vague. We dive deep into what your options are such as NGOs, freelancing, the Peace Corps, etc. We help you to consider the following: 1. What do you want to do? International career is very vague. 2. How to choose the right country for you and things to consider when selecting a location. 3. Use Numbeo to determine a fair salary across different economies. Also, consider the type of life you want to have abroad: Slower pace = Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panamá Big Adventure = India, China Comfortable or family = Staying in the West or Southeast Asia And at the end of the episode, we give you an action plan to help you get your international career started. Check out these helpful blog posts: The Secret To Moving Abroad Part 1 and Part 2. Tip: Whatever you hear about a country from an ex-pat is exaggerated. Nowhere is nearly as good or nearly as terrible as someone online says. It is 30% better than they say and 30% not as cool as they claim. Tricia Clarke-Stone’s professional yin and yang have made her success, despite her yin being failure. That her yang is being a rainmaker evens out the CEO of Narrative’s story. Failure is something that is oft-discussed, especially as it related to entrepreneurs — but what is telling is that failure engenders growth and self-awareness. True, from the business end, learning from failure is indisputable. But learning about one’s self is a positive, unintended consequence, especially for Clarke-Stone. Being a rainmaker, a superpower that Clarke-Stone possess, also has another side. Sure, it can be about building business, but in her mind, it’s also very much about pressing things forward as much as possible, especially in uncharted territories — the white space where great things can happen and “firsts” can thrive, something she realized in her early time with the legendary Russell Simmons, who she now calls a partner at her creative, entertainment and technology agency, Narrative. In fact, when people told her that she couldn’t start a brand agency and an innovation lab at the same time (she was told she needed to pick one) she said simply, “why can’t I do that?” For four years now, the silos have been broken down and her successful businesses continue to thrive. Clarke-Stone, who earlier in her career saw great success in her time at Emmis Communications, is relentless, in every great way — and in her pursuit of making an impact and redefining the status quo. From a practical perspective, her passion for continuing to develop cultural intelligence (something she learned with Simmons as well) and syncing it with data to put it in overdrive is admirable. Giving up is also not an option for her — and having unconditional love creates support for the drive forward. If she weren’t in her current role, she firmly believes that she would find great success in finding and empowering talent — which makes sense considering that Simmons empowered her to take her pop culture online media company Global Grind to the next level. That commitment to excellence resulted in Simmons becoming her partner in Narrative — and it is clear that it is a two-way street, with each providing the other with the ability and confidence to learn from each other at every turn.

Americans witnessed acts of traumatic violence this week: two killings of innocent black men by police officers, caught on video, and the fatal mass shooting of Dallas cops, during a demonstration against police impunity. Global Grind's Brittany Lewis helps us try to put the events in context. Then, The Donald clashed with members of the #NeverTrump movement on Capitol Hill, and came out of the tussle looking incompetent as hell. We explain, and discuss the ongoing GOP power struggle. And we discuss why the Obama administration's new finalized rules on Arctic Drilling are getting something of a chilly reception from environmentalists.
“It’s okay to get along with people you disagree with; in fact, it’s critical that we all try to put ourselves in other people’s shoes because I believe we all have the same hopes, desires. We are all inspired by the same kinds of things—we want to love and be loved.”Russell SimmonsIt's rare to find a pop culture icon as devoted to raising consciousness as the man they call Rush.Hip hop impresario, entrepreneur extraordinaire, devoted yogi and long-time meditation practitioner, Russell Simmons is truly one-of-a-kind — incredibly warm, always quick with a captivating story you won't soon forget and authentically committed to spreading awareness concerning important issues of our time — the horrors of animal agriculture, the declining state of human health (particularly in African American and lower socio-economic demographics) and the disastrous state of our planet’s dwindling environmental health. Most are familiar with Russell's background, but in case his name is new to you, let’s break it open.Alongside Rick Rubin, in 1984 Russell co-founded Def Jam Recordings and quickly established himself as a prominent, guiding force in the quickly growing cultural revolution that became hip hop. Championing its breakout stars, Def Jam became the label by signing the movement's ground-breaking forerunners – acts like the LL Cool J, Public Enemy, and The Beastie Boys. But Def Jam was just the first step in Russell's empire building quest. Before selling the label to Universal Music Group in 1999 for $100 million, he formed RUSH Communications and quickly expanded his reach into artist management, apparel, and film & television projects like The Nutty Professor, Krush Groove, Gridlock'd and Def Comedy Jam.Russell's current holdings include a vast array of entrepreneurial interests and philanthropic efforts, including All Def Digital, Argyleculture, RushCard, Global Grind, The Foundation For Ethnic Understanding and Tantris, a yoga & lifestyle destination currently in development. All of this is fascinating. But what interests me most about Russell is his personal journey. How discovering yoga and meditation led to his embrace of a vegan lifestyle. And the tremendous extent to which his commitment to cultivating an inner life based on the spiritual principles of ahimsa — a Sanskrit term for no harm — has impacted both his private and public life, his approach to business and his commitment to service and advocacy.Today we unpack all of it.This episode is definitely my most unique to date. Generally, I endeavor to architect the basic trajectory of my conversations; I know where I want to start and I know where I want to go. Suffice it to say this did not happen with Russell. Within the first 5 seconds of our conversation one thing was clear — I was not in control. Russell's show, Russell's flow. When the dust settled, all I could think was, what just happened? That's charisma. This one's different. But I loved every minute of it.Topics explored include:* yoga, meditation & consciousness* the karmic debt of animal agriculture* the ecological havoc caused by food systems* the health implications of the American diet* Russell as agent for change* happy vs. angry vegans* using cryotherapy to revitalize* animal cruelty in factory farming* raising awareness from the top down* the benefits of meditation* the primacy of service* parenting & privilege* the effect of branding on consumer choice* empathy and compassion for othersNote: This episode is chock-a-block with expletives. I typically run a clean, family-friendly show, but it's more important to me to allow my guests to be who they are. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
