Wednesday was jam-packed with new developments on and around the Democratic campaign trail. The White House announced that President Biden tested positive for COVID. Biden also appeared to give himself room to exit the presidential race, saying in an interview with BET News he'd reconsider running if “some medical condition” emerged. However, Biden remained defiant and said he had no plans to drop out. California Congressman Adam Schiff became the most high-profile Democrat to publicly call on Biden to exit the race, telling The Los Angeles Times he has “serious concerns” over whether Biden can beat former President Trump in November. And the Democratic National Committee announced it plans to move forward with a virtual roll call vote to officially nominate Biden ahead of the convention, despite calls to drop it amid the ongoing debate within the party over the president's candidacy. Politics reporter Todd Zwillich breaks down what it all means. And in headlines: Special Counsel Jack Smith appealed the dismissal of Trump's classified documents case, investigators looking into the assassination attempt against Trump at a rally this weekend reportedly told lawmakers that Secret Service spotted the gunman on a nearby roof roughly 20 minutes before shots were fired, and ‘Shogun' and ‘The Bear' lead this year's Emmy nominations. Show Notes:What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

Ironically, today he was diagnosed with Covid. Ingrid Andress sang the national anthem on Monday night, and it was . . .not great. Guest: Jesse Peyton

In recent years, an influx of racially motivated attacks against people of color in local communities has made national headlines: and the cases of George Floyd, Breanna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery have sparked international conversations. In today's age, exposure to racial injustice is more accessible than ever with the rise of video recording and the intimacy of technology. The power to spread information globally, all with the touch of a button, is reshaping the civil rights movement and pushing social justice forward. Marc Lamont Hill and Todd Brewster are both award-winning journalists and bestselling authors who reveal the common thread between these harrowing incidents. They recognize that technology has irrevocably changed our conversations about race and, in many instances, tipped the levers of power in favor of the historically disadvantaged. In their newest book, Seen and Unseen: Technology, Social Media, and the Fight for Racial Justice, Hill and Brewster draw on the increasing role of media in the racial justice movement to discover why it took the horrifying footage of the murder of George Floyd—despite a wealth of video evidence of previous police brutality—to trigger outrage. The book is a riveting exploration of how the power of visual media has shifted the narrative on race over the last few years and reignited the fight toward justice. Join us as co-authors Marc Lamont Hill and Todd Brewster explore the powerful role technology plays as a driver of history, identity, and racial consciousness. 0:09: This is the game where we find out if this is the Bull***t. A Woman is arrested for putting fake KKK memos in her neighbor's mailboxes. A Call Center Worker and three other people were running a hotel scam on the government's dollar. And A 55 woman living in PA, drives to South Jersey, to kill her father and his girlfriend because she is no longer in the will. These crime stories are a mouthful and worth a listen on America's favorite intro: This is the BS.11:31: Intro/Takeoff12:59: Is it just me or has A.D.D. caused Black America to have selective hearing as well? I only ask because the brilliance of Dave Chappelle have made groups of people unhinged, jealous, bitter, and determined to cancel someone who has made keen opinions based on his observations and through educating himself. The greatest comedian the last 20 years has put together a great collection of stand up comedy I urge you to give it a listen because there is nothing else like it! And also I say this with love: Rest In Peace to Trans Comedian Daphne Dorman who reminded us that she was having A HUMAN EXPERIENCE. Love all even when differences need to be settled. 29:38: Why is hard for Haitians to be Haitian Americans?37:31: Two alleged racist teachers. Find out which racist we believe should sue their school and why.46:42: Here lies BET. A network that was once a HUB for African Americans. I mean it still is sort of but no. What happened to Video Soul? Rap City? BET News? Donnie Simpson? Being Mary Jane? Where's the good programming? Why did BET let Tyler Perry do this to BET? This clear and courageous book is a clarion call for moral integrity and political consistency.” —Cornel West In their major new work of daring criticism and analysis, Except for Palestine, scholar and political commentator Marc Lamont Hill and Israel-Palestine expert Mitchell Plitnick spotlight how holding fast to one-sided and unwaveringly pro-Israel policies reflects the truth-bending grip of authoritarianism on both Israel and the United States. Join members of the COVID19 Policing Project in conversation with Marc Lamont Hill on pandemic policing and new ways forward to safeguard the health and well-being of Black communities most devastated by coronavirus, policing, and economic crisis. "The way forward through the raging pandemic and devastating economic crisis doesn't lie in more surveillance, policing and punishment of marginalized communities – it lies in the demands to stop pouring money and resources into policing and start pouring resources into people and communities." This conclusion to a Guardian op-ed penned by the Community Resource Hub COVID-19 Policing Project is drawn from their recently released report, Unmasked: Impacts of Pandemic Policing, documenting police violence and racial disparities in enforcement of public health orders. It should serve as a guiding principle to the incoming Biden administration as it takes leadership of a nation devastated by the impacts of a pandemic raging out of control, instead of doubling down on the policing practices that are the subject of Haymarket's recent book by Marc Lamont Hill: We Still Here: Pandemic, Policing, Protest & Possibility. ---------------------------------------------------- Speakers: Marc Lamont Hill is currently the host of BET News. Today on Sojourner Truth: In addition to the on-going protests against racism and police violence, following the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, new protests broke out this past weekend after the June 12 police killing of unarmed Black man 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Brooks was a father of four and had just celebrated his daughters birthday hours before being murdered. And, over the weekend it emerged that on Wednesday, June 10, the body of a 24-year-old Black man Robert Fuller was found hanging from a tree close to City Hall in Palmdale, California. Furthermore, news is only now beginning to emerge about the body of 38-year-old Malcolm Harsch, another Black man, was found hanging from a tree close to a public library in nearby Victorville, California. Mr. Harsch was 38 years old. Both hangings took place in cities in Southern California. All of this comes amid more racist maneuvers by Donald Trump. To add insult to injury Donald Trump announced that he will hold a rally in Tulsa Oklahoma, where a white riot on May 31 and June 1, 1921 left 300 Black people dead and the entire Black area, businesses, churches, homes burned to the ground. Trump had first announced that the rally would be held on Friday, June 19, the very day that marked the end of slaver in the U.S., and is known as Freedom Day among Black communities across the country. Amid widespread opposition, Trump was forced to delay the event to Saturday June 20, but that is the very day that the Poor Peoples Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival will hold its long planned Virtual Poor Peoples Mass March and Rally. And there is more. Trump announced that he is moving the Republican Presidential Convention from Charlotte NC to Jacksonville Florida, this coincides with the 60th anniversary of the city's KKK race riot. Referred to as Ax Handle Saturday, on August 27, 1960, KKK members in the hundreds chased and viciously beat Black people with ax handles and baseball bats. This is where and when Donald Trump chose to give his acceptance speech for what he hopes will be another 4 years in office. As part of our ongoing coverage of this critical time in US history, we bring you a recent webinar held by Haymarket Books entitled, The Fire This Time: The New Uprising Against Racism and Police Violence. The discussion, moderated by E. Tammy Kim, features Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor and Dr. Marc Lamont Hill. Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor writes and speaks on Black politics, social movements, and racial inequality in the United States. She is author of From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation, which won the Lannan Cultural Freedom Award for an Especially Notable Book in 2016. She is also editor of How We Get Free: Black Feminism and the Combahee River Collective, which won the Lambda Literary Award for LGBQT nonfiction in 2018. Biden shows where Black Americans rate in the Democrat party. The KKK still runs the Democrat party and politicians show how they are not waiting for them to submit. Uncle toms vote Democrat in elections and the party want to replace these voters with Hispanics in the future. Why help people that vote blindly. Biden placed the Black Americans in jail and now wants all Blacks to vote Democrat so he can place Hispanics and Whites in the same place. Elites rule the Democrat party, and Hollywood helps sell the message. America was formed on the process of sending the tyrants home. Lets send all D.C. home and save America.

Hill and Wise also examine the ongoing reality of police shootings of unarmed persons of color—as with the killing of Stephon Clark in Sacramento—as well as the differential way media frames violence and terrorism, whether committed by people of color and Muslims on the one hand, or white Christians like the recent bomber in Austin, Texas, on the other. Finally, Hill discusses why he opened a bookstore in Philadelphia, and why black bookstores are such a vital component of community there and elsewhere.

Elliott is a 2013 graduate of The University of Akron School of Law in Ohio, where he also served as a part-time faculty member in the university’s School of Communication. He is licensed to practice law in the state of New York. Before becoming a law student, Elliott was a freelance television news reporter in Washington, DC. Prior to moving to the nation's capital, Elliott’s career took him to a number of cities around the country. He has worked as a reporter for WKMG-TV in Orlando, WKRC-TV in Cincinnati, KPTV in Portland, KGTV in San Diego, and KTVN in Reno. Elliott attended Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, where he studied Spanish and communications. With Fade, television journalist Elliott Lewis weaves his memoirs as a black-and-white biracial American with the voices of dozens of multiracial people who are challenging how we think and speak about race today. His interviews illuminate a variety of coping strategies and reveal stark generational differences in the ways mixed race people have come to terms with their identity. A comprehensive look at the multiracial state of the union, Fade tackles hot-button issues such as the often complicated lives of multiracial people in communities of color, interracial dating, transracial adoption, "black versus biracial" identities, and the birth of a national multiracial movement. Elliott also shares his own moving - and often humorous -firsthand experiences with race, along with intimate stories from those at the forefront of nationwide efforts to formally recognize the multiracial population. Sharon Carpenter is an award-winning broadcast journalist, host and producer who serves as the co-creator of and a cast member on the new VH1 hit reality show, “The Gossip Game”.  Carpenter has built a stellar reputation through her on-air work at the BBC, CBS, Black Entertainment Television (BET), WPIX and hip-hop mogul, Russell Simmons’ news and entertainment website GlobalGrind.  Originally from England, Carpenter moved to the United States to study at Pace University in New York City and graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a BBA degree in business management.  The daughter of two doctors (and former Harvard Medical School professors), Carpenter first gained international attention through her work as an anchor and reporter for BET News and a contributing correspondent for the BBC News program BBC World News America.   Throughout her career, Carpenter has interviewed a diverse list of A-list subjects including Oprah Winfrey, Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Lindsay Lohan, Will Smith, Julianne Moore, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Johnny Depp, Mayor Cory Booker and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.  With a focus primarily on pop-culture — distilling the latest in both mainstream entertainment and cutting-edge trends, Carpenter is also known for her coverage of international issues, financial news and politics.  When rapper Wyclef Jean announced his plans to run for president of Haiti in 2010, Carpenter scored his first television interview, which ran on BBC outlets across the globe.  In her live coverage of 2008’s historic presidential election, Carpenter provided expert commentary and analysis from Senator John McCain’s headquarters.
