In this episode, we host Dr Colin P. Clarke to explore how terrorism is evolving in an era of AI, organised crime, proxy warfare, and great power competition. Drawing on decades of work on terrorism, insurgency, illicit finance, and political violence, Dr Clarke explains why today's threat landscape is no longer defined solely by hierarchical jihadist organisations, but by decentralised networks, regional affiliates, lone actors, criminal ecosystems, and state-backed proxies. He also reflects on how groups such as ISIS, Hezbollah, Hamas, and far-right movements adapt to new technologies, exploit geopolitical crises, and sustain themselves through propaganda, illicit finance, and transnational support networks. We discuss why terrorism today is more fragmented, more hybrid, and harder to categorise than many older counterterrorism models suggest. From ISIS's evolution into a franchise-like movement and Hezbollah's diversified funding streams to AI-enabled propaganda, drones, virtual currencies, Russian hybrid warfare, Wagner, and the possibility of terrorism triggering wider interstate conflict, this conversation offers a timely guide to how political violence is mutating – and why policymakers must avoid treating terrorism, organised crime, and great power competition as separate problems.Dr Colin P. Clarke is the Executive Director of The Soufan Center and one of the leading analysts working at the intersection of terrorism, insurgency, organised crime, and geopolitics. He is the author of several books, including Terrorism, Inc. and After the Caliphate, and writes widely on terrorist financing, the crime-terror nexus, ISIS, Hezbollah, proxy warfare, and emerging security threats. His work has appeared in outlets including Foreign Policy and War on the Rocks, and he regularly contributes to public debate on terrorism, political violence, and international security. The International Risk Podcast brings you conversations with global experts, frontline practitioners, and senior decision-makers who are shaping how we understand and respond to international risk. Today, Steve returns to Business Matters with Juliette Foster. The war continues to rage in Iran, and with it comes an increasing threat of cyber attacks. Steve shares his thoughts on what the conflict means for cyber investment in the private sector, British critical infrastructure, and the British government's approach to cyber resilience. Steve and Juliette also discuss the UK Financial Minister's Spring Statement, which didn't include any references to cybersecurity. What does this omission signal? How will multinational companies react? Is cyber a macro economic issue? This, and more, in Steve's latest appearance on Business Matters.Key Takeaways:  Cyber is a macroeconomic issue, not just a technical one.  AI has changed the way that the threat landscape is evolving, but it's also brought benefits for cyber defence.  Governments have limited abilities to support the cyber resilience of the private sector; cooperation between large enterprises supports the whole business landscape. Tune in to hear more about: If Steve thinks the UK Finance Minister's spring statement will impact cyber investments (8:57) The impact on UK businesses of slower economic growth in the UK (14:59) The state of government cyber resilience in the UK (22:39) Standout Quotes: “What you have to do is you have to look at your crown jewels and back to this minimum viable company notion that I mentioned right at the beginning of our chat. You have to understand what the most critical elements of your business are, and then you can track those through these complex supply chains. Those are the pieces you need to be protecting because that's what's gonna bring your business down or ensure that you can continue to operate.”  - Steve Durbin “The business climate in the UK at the moment is exceptionally tough, exceptionally demanding. I think if you look at some of the legislation that's recently come in particularly around hiring, retaining employees, the sheer cost of doing business has risen pretty much exponentially for most organizations, and that means that they have to make cuts somewhere. If they can't do it in terms of some of the core business, they will look to some of the fringe elements. So if you've got an organization that perhaps does not view cyber as being core to what they do, then that may well be somewhere where a cut is made.” - Steve Durbin “I think we'll certainly see a maturing of the industry. It's a very young industry still in terms of the way that it's evolving and changing, and I think that with the benefit of a couple of years under our belt, then most organizations will have moved to a stronger position from a maturity standpoint, and I would hope certainly that we're talking very much more about resilience rather than protection.” Read the transcript of this episodeSubscribe to the ISF Podcast wherever you listen to podcastsConnect with us on LinkedIn and TwitterFrom the Information Security Forum, the leading authority on cyber, information security, and risk management.

Brett kicks off the program with Pete Kaliner for this edition of The Hangover as they discuss the growing urgency of modern global threats and the debate over preemption in national security. Brett argues that traditional standards—like the Caroline test—are outdated in an era defined by cyber warfare, nuclear development, and EMP capabilities. He warns that hostile regimes such as Iran are actively pursuing advanced weapons that could cripple infrastructure without conventional attacks. Later Brett shifts focus to rising global tensions and a major new development in energy policy, highlighting reports of a proposed $40 billion U.S. nuclear reactor project. He contrasts this with past resistance to nuclear energy, questioning the long-term reliability of solar power as a primary solution. Brett then pivots to escalating concerns in the Middle East, detailing the movement of thousands of U.S. Marines and multiple Navy ships potentially headed toward the Region. Tune in here to this Thursday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the program by talking about modern global threats and the growing debate over preemption in national security. He argues that the world has changed dramatically, with dangers no longer arriving through traditional warfare but through cyber attacks, nuclear development, and EMP capabilities that can cripple a nation without warning. Brett criticizes what he sees as outdated thinking rooted in old legal frameworks, saying today’s enemies operate faster and more unpredictably than ever before. Later Brett turns his attention to a chaotic Capitol Hill confrontation surrounding the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, describing it as a “fake hearing” that exposed deep dysfunction in Washington. He explains that what was supposed to be a routine closed-door briefing quickly devolved into a partisan clash, with Democrats walking out and accusing officials of a cover-up, while Republicans dismissed the outburst as political theater. Brett highlights frustrations over the lack of transparency—no cameras, no oath, and no official record—fueling distrust on both sides. New intelligence warnings suggest Iran may be attempting to activate sleeper cells beyond the Middle East, raising fears of possible attacks on U.S. soil. Reports of encrypted communications coming out of Iran after the death of its supreme leader have triggered alerts to American law enforcement. President Donald Trump says U.S. intelligence has been monitoring potential sleeper networks for years while tensions escalate in the region. At the same time, the administration argues the broader goal of the conflict is to eliminate Iran's nuclear ambitions and dismantle its expanding missile program. SUMMARY The war in the Middle East could be expanding beyond the region as U.S. officials warn about possible sleeper cell activity connected to Iran. Intelligence reports indicate encrypted messages were transmitted following the death of Iran's supreme leader on February 28, prompting alerts to law enforcement agencies about potential threats inside the United States. President Trump addressed the concerns directly, saying the government has long tracked suspected sleeper networks but continues to monitor them closely as tensions escalate. Commentators warn that Iran may attempt indirect retaliation through proxies or covert networks if the conflict intensifies. Analysts also argue that the ideological nature of the Iranian regime makes the threat particularly difficult to manage, describing the leadership as driven by religious doctrine rather than traditional geopolitical calculations. The administration says the long-term objective of the military campaign is clear: dismantle Iran's nuclear weapons capability and eliminate its long-range missile program. Supporters argue that these weapons could threaten a large portion of the global population if left unchecked. The situation remains highly volatile as the United States and its allies watch closely for retaliation while hoping the conflict does not spread into a broader global crisis. It's that time of year: The CrowdStrike 2026 Global Threat Report is live, and Adam and Cristian are here to break down the key findings. This year's report spotlights adversaries' heightened speed, their evolving use of AI, an increase in activity from China and North Korea, and the growth of supply chain attacks, zero-day exploitation, and cloud targeting. For new listeners, the annual Global Threat Report delivers an analysis of the modern threat landscape based on CrowdStrike's frontline observations and real-world threat intelligence from the previous year. 2026 was the year of the evasive adversary. As defenses get stronger, adversaries are focused on refining their techniques to target security blind spots and bypass detection. AI is helping them accelerate and find creative ways around defenses for hands-on-keyboard operations. In 2025, AI-enabled adversaries increased attacks by 89% year-over-year. The trend is poised to continue: “I don't think AI is going to create the malware — I think AI is going to be the malware,” Adam said. But AI isn't the only factor shaping the modern threat landscape. Below are a few key stats from the report: • The average eCrime breakout time fell to 29 minutes — a 65% increase in speed from 2024. The fastest breakout we observed occurred in just 27 seconds. • 82% of detections were malware-free, continuing a steady trend in recent years. • North Korea-nexus incidents jumped 130%, and FAMOUS CHOLLIMA's activity doubled compared to 2024. • We observed a 42% increase in vulnerabilities exploited prior to public disclosure and a 37% rise in cloud-conscious intrusions. Tune in to learn about these findings and more from the CrowdStrike 2026 Global Threat Report.

With the global order under increasing strain, 2026 is shaping up to be a tipping point for geopolitics. From political upheaval in the United States to widening conflicts abroad, the risks facing governments, markets, and societies are converging faster—and more forcefully—than at any time in recent memory. To break it all down, journalist Julia Chatterley moderated a wide-ranging conversation with Ian Bremmer, president of Eurasia Group and GZERO Media, and a panel of Eurasia Group experts, to examine the findings of their newly-released Top Risks of 2026 report. One theme dominates the discussion: the United States itself. From an accelerating political revolution at home to a more aggressive projection of power abroad, Washington has become the single biggest driver of global risk. That shift is playing out vividly in the Western Hemisphere, where dramatic developments in Venezuela signal a renewed US willingness to shape political outcomes closer to home.Along with Ian Bremmer, the Eurasia Group panel included Gerald Butts, Vice Chairman; Risa Grais-Targow, Director, Latin America; Cliff Kupchan, Chairman; and Mujtaba (Mij) Rahman, Managing Director, Europe. Their discussion also digs into the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, rising instability among US allies in Europe, intensifying US-China competition, and the growing geopolitical consequences of artificial intelligence—all against the backdrop of a world with fewer guardrails and weaker global leadership. As Bremmer argues, these risks are not isolated. They are symptoms of a deeper transformation: a GZERO world, where power is unconstrained, alliances are fragile, and no single country can—or will—stabilize the international system.Host: Julia ChatterleyGuests: Ian Bremmer, Risa Grais-Targow, Cliff Kupchan, Mujtaba (Mij) Rahman, Gerald Butts Subscribe to the GZERO World with Ian Bremmer Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your preferred podcast platform, to receive new episodes as soon as they're published. This segment warns of a grave new threat to free speech, sparked by the arrest of UK comedian Graham Linehan at a UK airport for tweets he made while in America. The host argues that this is not an isolated incident but a deliberate test case to establish a legal framework for extraditing Americans to the UK to face charges for "speech crimes" committed on social media. Citing a statistic that claims there are significantly more arrests for social media posts in the UK than in Russia, the host questions why the US would continue to support its "allies" militarily when their values appear to be in direct opposition to American constitutional rights. The discussion frames this as a part of a larger, globalist plan to silence conservative commentary and control online discourse, with the speaker calling for Americans to reconsider who their true allies and enemies are.

This content is a wide-ranging discussion covering US foreign policy, domestic crime, and international events. The speaker begins by applauding what he describes as a new 50% tariff on India for its purchase of Russian oil, framing it as a necessary economic measure to force India to choose between the US and its rivals, Russia and China. He criticizes previous administrations for what he claims were policies designed to benefit China at the expense of American interests and the middle class, specifically citing alleged financial corruption and the handling of the Russian oil market. The speaker then pivots to domestic issues, praising efforts to reduce crime in Washington, D.C., and advocating for the death penalty and the end of cashless bail. He links these domestic problems to a perceived international pattern, using a story about an American tourist attacked in Germany to argue that a global "program of terror" aims to use undocumented individuals to intimidate the public. Finally, the monologue concludes with a local news segment detailing a recent cluster of earthquakes in a specific area of South Carolina. It notes the unusual frequency and location of the tremors, prompting concern about a potential precursor to a major seismic event similar to a devastating earthquake in 1886.

America stands at a crossroads—under siege from both foreign threats abroad and deep vulnerabilities at home. On one front, Jeff Nyquist, a relentless geopolitical analyst, pulls back the curtain on the global chessboard—where Russia, China, and North Korea quietly coordinate moves that could undermine U.S. sovereignty. With decades of research, insider testimony, and a historian's grasp of strategy, Nyquist exposes the ideological warfare, deception campaigns, and moral weaknesses that hostile powers are exploiting right now. His message is not one of fear, but of urgent truth—because in war, the side that fails to see the battlefield clearly is the side that loses. On the home front, election cybersecurity and forensics expert Mark Cook brings the fight to our own backyard, revealing how opaque, machine-driven voting systems erode public trust in the very foundation of the Republic. Through his “Hand Count Road Show,” Cook has traveled county by county, uncovering vulnerabilities, training citizens in hand-count ballot procedures, and demonstrating how transparency can be restored with nothing more than vigilance, video cameras, and community action. He has one mission: to return elections to the people—and ensure that every future generation truly lives with freedom and liberty. Hosted by Joe Untamed, this powerful conversation brings together two warriors on different battlefields but fighting for the same cause—America's survival. From the shadow strategies of global adversaries to the grassroots movement to secure our ballots, this episode will challenge what you think you know, and ignite a deeper understanding of the fight for our Republic. This isn't just another discussion—it's a call to wake up, stand up, and take part in defending the nation before it's too late.
