Amanda Sikoral is a musician that blends singer-songwriter, country and soul into a melodic fusion of hooks, and lyrics that you won't forget. She even performed the chorus for her newest single, "Home," at the end of the podcast. On top of her own music, she's been branded "The Manifesting Musician," for good reason. Her positive, daily TikTok mantras have garnered hundreds of thousands of views, and over 9000 followers on the platforms. She blends songwriting with short, positive affirmations and was pushed to make an entire song out of one after hundreds of people requested it. I loved our conversation about music, growing as an artist, social media, and more. One thing I've realized while doing this is that meeting in person is mattering less and less. I've had countless guests come to my house to record after only a phone call or folks like Amanda who I met on IG, and then hopped on Zoom to record. In this episode we cover: Amanda's willingness to take her music to the next level after 15 years of practice. Blending country and soul while being from New Jersey. Influences growing up, and how that shaped her sound today. Producing from scratch, and how she learned to improve. Her rise to TikTok fame as the "Manifesting Musician." How she created positive mantras that allowed her to grow on the platform, and gain thousands of fans using her sounds daily. Live performances, and how one chance encounter lead to her first one. Amanda's aspirations and the future of her music. There are very few people who have an unstoppable mindset - the type of people you would trust in any situation regardless of what is going on. Christian Lopez is a financial analyst, college graduate, co-host of the Demi-God Chronicles, and self-improvement aficionado. He's one of the most well-read folks we've had on the podcast and I can't say enough about his presence and articulation. At the age of 8, Christian was separated from his mother and sister in a custody battle. He was forced to live with his father for 6 years, and in the cold winter of 2004, he began to experience life differently. Leaving Garfield, NJ to attend a catholic school in 2010, Christian's life began to open up in a positive way. He found himself striving on the football field and later attended Muhlenberg College to play football after high school. Muhlenberg showed him an entirely different side to life. https://www.christianblopez.com/post/what-i-learned-in-100-seasons (More on Christians's story on his website. ) In this episode we cover: Overcoming introversion to become a podcast host Thinking outside of the box to create podcast content The power of mindset in your life How Christian had to change his entire identity as a football player after college How comments about his veganism fueled him to become obsessed with his fitness goals How the self-esteem movement ruined a generation of kids What it takes to learn a second language Budget your time effectively to remain ambitious and accomplish your goals This was seriously a life-changing episode for me. Brand New Episode from the Artist's Lounge at the Lounge at the End of the Universe
To say that Erica Arvold is passionate about what she does is an understatement. Most actors know her as a casting director but, as she likes to point out, she is so much more than that. She is a producer, a director, and a committed educator. But one of the things that I most appreciate about Erica is how she loves learning about other people. If you’ve auditioned for Erica you know that during Covid she started the 30 second stories where actors got to share 30 seconds about themselves that was not related to acting. And at the end of our conversation, she asked me a question. That has never happened. Now you won’t hear that part as I edited it out because the podcast is not about me. What it did show is that, for Erica, it is as much about the other person as it is about herself. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Erica Arvold as much as I did. Erica Arvold, owner and CEO of Arvold, has spent 30 years as a casting director, educator, speaker, producer, writer, director and an advocate for screen artists. Erica has contributed to, participated in, or helmed the making of over 140 films, 85 television shows, and countless multimedia & commercial projects. Casting credits include The Black Phone, Red Notice, Dopesick, Swagger, The Good Lord Bird, House of Cards, Charm City Kings, Harriet, and Lincoln. Erica directed the short films Thursday and Here Today, for which she won ‘Best First Time Director’ at Indie Short Fest Los Angeles. She has served as a producer on projects including Coming Through the Rye, Elemental, House Hunting, Josephine, Texas Rein, Time Machine Guitar, and Wish You Well. She has been nominated for CSA’s Artios Award five times, inducted into First Lady of Virginia’s Opportunity Hall of Fame for contributing to the economic growth in the state. In 2010, Erica founded Arvold.Education to cultivate artistic growth in actors and filmmakers, which quickly expanded into offering classes for all humans. Her collaboration with master teacher/actor/director Richard Warner is now Arvold Warner Studio, and focuses on actor & multi-hyphenate screen artist training. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for June 11, 2021 is: poignant POY-nyunt adjective 1 a : painfully affecting the feelings : piercing b : deeply affecting : touching c : designed to make an impression : cutting 2 a : pleasurably stimulating b : being to the point : apt 3 : pungently pervasive Examples: "Across Texas and the U.S. this year, high schools and universities scrambled to find ways to give students a meaningful graduation amid the coronavirus pandemic. There have been virtual events, drive-through ceremonies in parking lots and more traditional in-person events that took several days to ensure social distancing…. Images from those atypical ceremonies provide a poignant reminder of the ways life changed as the coronavirus spread." — Jamie Stengle, The Associated Press, 27 Dec. 2020 "It's hard to pick apart a film that is as well-intentioned as Here Today, which earnestly wants to celebrate life, and every beautiful, tragic, poignant and surprising moment." — Katie Walsh, The San Diego Union-Tribune, 6 May 2021 Did you know? Poignant comes to English from French, and before that from Latin—specifically, the Latin verb pungere, meaning "to prick or sting." Several other common English words derive from pungere, including pungent, which can refer to, among other things, a sharp odor. The influence of pungere can also be seen in puncture, as well as punctual, which originally meant simply "of or relating to a point." Even compunction and expunge come from this pointedly relevant Latin word.
Are You Ready For LOL Comedy?Gianmarco Soresi is a stand-up comic, actor, and writer but the first line of his obituary will probably say “guy from all those General Electric commercials.” With a BFA in musical theater and a Ph.D. in imagination, he made his television debut on CBS' Blue Bloods playing Tom Selleck's waiter, a role he prepared for by actually becoming a waiter for twelve years. From the ‘Borscht Belt’ to the big time, Alan Zweibel has helped shape comedy for decades. He joins John Landecker to talk about writing his new movie, ‘Here Today’, with his friend Billy Crystal and how to balance comedy with tragedy.
There are performers that impact your life without you even knowing it and today's guest fits that bill. On the show we have comedic genius, multi-award-winning actor, writer, producer, director, and television host, Billy Crystal. We’ve seen Billy’s versatile work across all areas in the entertainment world, stand-up, improv, Broadway, behind and in front of the camera, feature films, television, live stages like SNL, and animated movies. It's fascinating how much the man has done over the span of his career---and his lengthy IMDB page is only the tip of the iceberg.Billy’s career took off for his role in the 70's sitcom SOAP, where he played a gay character, Jodie Dallas. This launched him into box office hits such as When Harry Met Sally, City Slickers, Analyze This and the kids favorite, Mike Wazowski in Monsters, Inc. just to name a few. Aside from hosting the Oscars® a record nine times and being only one step away from an EGOT, he’s a philanthropist. Billy, along with Whoopi Goldberg and the late Robin Williams created the annual fundraiser stand-up comedy show, Comic Relief, in 1986 that has over the years, raised over $60 million to support the homeless. The late 80s and early 90s were a really magical time for Billy's career. He had the box office hits Running Scared and Throw Momma from the Train. He had scene stealing parts in the classics This is Spinal Tap and The Princess Bride. There’s the 1989 box office smash hit When Harry Met Sally, starring Billy alongside Meg Ryan and Carrie Fisher. The story follows Harry and Sally who had known each other for years, and are very good friends, but they fear sex would ruin the friendship. You can’t talk about Billy Crystal classics without mentioning City Slickers for which he won a Golden Globes award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical/Comedy. On the verge of turning 40, an unhappy Manhattan yuppie is roped into joining his two friends on a cattle drive in the southwest.Billy's interest in entertainment started way before college. But his decision to go to NYU put some goals into place for him. He was a member of an improv/comedy group at college and soon he started to host solo standup shows. By 1978, he landed his first starring feature film role in Rabbit Test in which he starred with Joan Rivers. Towards the end of the 90s, Billy joined iconic Robert De Niro and Lisa Kudrow in the box blockbuster hit Analyze This and its sequel to the Analyze That.Billy’s work transcend generations and Gen Z is his newest fandom; distinctively for his role in Monster Inc. and Monsters University, Mike Wazowski. Monsters University revisits the relationship between Mike Wazowski and James P. "Sully" Sullivan during their days at Monsters University, when they weren't necessarily the best of friends.Billy will reprise his role as Mike Wazowski in the Monsters at Work Disney+ series that is set for release later this year. One defining element of Billy’s work, be it writing, acting or directing is that the pulls from real-life experiences and balances funny and hard conversations effortlessly. Having started out in the business since he was 20 years old, it is absolutely thrilling to watch how he’s knitted together diverse platforms and filed into a accomplished career. This Friday, May 7th, Billy’s newest film, in which he wrote and directed, Here Today, stars himself and the incredibly funny, Tiffany Haddish, will be released only in theaters. These two make a seamless pairing and their chemistry is oh so charming. The intergenerational teaming of Billy and Tiffany tells a love story that is of friendship, support, and empathy. I absolutely LOVED the film. Do yourself a favor and go out and catch this gem of a film. When veteran comedy writer Charlie Burnz meets New York street singer Emma Payge, they form an unlikely yet hilarious and touching friendship that kicks the generation gap aside and redefines the meaning of love and trust.Billy has always been there to make me laugh, in good times and bad. I can not tell you what and honor and thrill it was getting to sit-down and speak to a filmmaker, writer and actor that has meant so much to me in my life.Enjoy my entertaining conversation with Billy Crystal.
Happy Memorial Day folks, the guys are back talking 2 new movies and it so good to hear it. First, after Neil talks about his home improvements and Chris' repeats his thing "I've been working" they talk Billy Crystal's new flick, Here Today, starring Billy Chrystal and Tiffany Haddish. Then after a lengthy news segment where Neil tries to get Chris to guess an actor based on wildly vague unhelpful clues, they talk Zack Snyder's newest film, Army of the Dead found exclusively on netflix. Oh yeah, Chris gets super drunk. So, yeah, that is professional.

"This is maybe one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It's just terrible, awkward, stiff, and never funny." Filmweek's Christy Lemire says in one sentence what we do in about 40 minutes. If you think details are important, listen to our show. It's better than reading, anyway. Those details? Well... Billy Crystal is not funny. HERE TODAY is bad at manipulation. A discussion of whether or not a stick of butter is kinky. Billy Crystal is not hot enough to be in this movie. We provide this service for you, so you don't have to watch HERE TODAY. Hey, first thing: Buy Will's book, "How Lucky," which is out this week. It's good! Buy Grierson's book, "This Is How You Make A Movie," while you're at it. We also have movies. First, it's the Guy Ritchie heist movie, "Wrath of Man." Then it's Billy Crystal teaming up with Tiffany Haddish for "Here Today." Then we have a Reboot movie, the much-debated 2000 Spike Lee movie "Bamboozled." Timestamps: 11:52 "Wrath of Man" 32:21 "Here Today" 52:33 "Bamboozled" Thanks to Dylan Mayer and My Friend Mary, both of which are wonderful, for the music. We hope you enjoy. Let us know what you think @griersonleitch on Twitter, or griersonleitch@gmail.com. Spring 2021 is turning out to be a wet one. But that means you can stay indoors and watch something. And boy do we have some interesting options for you. First there's "Wrath of Man" which stars Jason Statham as H, a cold and mysterious character working at a cash truck company responsible for moving hundreds of millions of dollars around Los Angeles each week. He's just started working there and he's already way too good at it. What gives? It's directed by Guy Ritchie. Bill McCuddy and Bill Bregoli both saw it and they'll tell you what they think of it. And as an added bonus, Bill Bregoli will tell you what it was like to see it in an actual movie theater (remember those?). Neil Rosen will fill you in on "Here Today" which stars Neil's favorite old man Bill Crystal as a veteran comedy writer named Charlie Burnz who meets New York street singer Emma Payge (Tiffany Haddish), and they form an unlikely yet hilarious and touching friendship. Awww. Then there's the HBO documentary "The Crime of the Century." It's a searing indictment of Big Pharma and the political operatives and government regulations that enable over-production, reckless distribution and abuse of synthetic opiates. On the lighter side, Neil talks about watching "The Story of Late Night" on CNN which tracks the history of late-night TV from its inception, featuring stories about hosts such as Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, David Letterman, O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Kimmel, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. So many overpaid men, so little time. We also probe the latest controversy involving those crazy cut-ups at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. So keep your powder dry this Spring and listen in!
Billy Crystal returns to the podcast! He talks about breaking into stand-up, his first "Tonight Show" appearance in 1975, and maintaining a successful career/life balance. Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy open May 2021 with eight (mostly) new movie reviews. There’s a racially-charged Sundance drama that premiered in 2018 (Monster), the true story of an FBI informant played by Emilia Clarke who got too close to her handler that was made in 2019 (Above Suspicion) the same year when 15 Things You Didn’t Know About Bigfoot premiered at the Austin Film Festival. They also look at a documentary about Sean Penn’s philanthropic efforts (Citizen Penn), Mena Suvari forced to find stolen diamonds at a storage facility (Locked In) and David Oyelowo’s directorial debut (The Water Man) that shares a lot with a 2016 film. Billy Crystal is also back in the director’s chair for the first time in 20 years (Here Today) and its been over 20 years since we first heard from director Guy Ritchie. Can his latest, Wrath of Man, cool the wrath Erik has carried for his resume? 0:00 - Intro 4:25 – 15 Things You Didn’t Know About Bigfoot 11:45 – Citizen Penn 20:06 - Locked In 26:42 - Monster 35:46 – Here Today 48:19 – The Water Man 57:56 - Above Suspicion 1:12:16 - Wrath of Man
