In President Joe Biden's announcement on social media of his decision to not run for reelection, he ticked off the many wonderful achievements during his three and a half years in the nation's highest office. But if things are so great, as Biden seems to think, why are Americans so dispirited? Biden's personal polling is horrible. General polling shows an American public in a sour state of mind. Per Gallup of a few weeks ago, only 41 percent say they are “extremely proud” to be an American, compared to 70 percent 20 years ago. In Biden's own Democratic Party, only...Article Link
Today's show opens, once again, with even more information we have learned about from the catastrophic failure of the US Secret Service in protecting Donald Trump in Butler, PA. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has announced he will form a task force in the House to begin a full investigation into the shooting with full subpoena power. We now know the shooter was on the USSS radar for over three hours. We also know that DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has told USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle to stop talking and is trying to block her from testifying before Congress on Monday, July 22. We know they knew he came onto the grounds with a range finder. We know at one point he was using the ranger finder to look at one of the snipers, and the sniper reported he was looking at the kid through his own scope at the time. We also know the parents of the shooter called PA police hours before, expressing a “concern” for their son. The reports, so far, are not saying exactly what that concern was. We also know he had constructed two remotely detonated explosive devices. We know he told his boss he needed Saturday off, but told co-workers he was going to be back on Sunday. We have also heard that USSS thought the rooftop was going to be defended by a police sniper team, though that doesn't really go along with Kim Cheatle's comment a few days about about the room being too sloped to place a team. All of this continues to make it harder and harder to not want to see this as a deeper, darker conspiracy. I don't want to go there, yet, so we have to keep an eye out for new information and hope we can get some answers sooner rather than later. A transcript to a leaked Zoom call reveals a nasty, angry, narcissistic Joe Biden, suffering from extreme delusions of grandeur, yelling at Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) over voter's who are worried about our national security at the hands of a cognitively impaired president. This goes along with quotes from the NBC interview Biden had a few days ago with Lester Holt. And is magnified even more with his speech yesterday in front of the Las Vegas chapter of the NAACP. For someone trying to “save our democracy”, Joe Biden now says he is finalizing plans to make radical changes to the Supreme Court. In Biden's mind, thinks he can impose term limits and put and enforceable ethics code in place. The only way he can do that is if he shreds the Constitution, which he has demonstrated repeatedly a comfort in doing just that. We just got the date for the big Fani Willis RICO appeals hearing for her disqualification. The Georgia court has it scheduled for December 05, 2024, a full 30 days after the Presidential election. Sorry, Fani. And, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders had a mic drop moment last night at the RNC. She compared take your child to work day with Jill Biden having to take her husband to work day. President Biden is trailing Donald Trump in several battleground states, according to new polling from the New York Times and Siena College. While polling this far out from an election often doesn't represent final results, it can reveal trends that candidates should seriously consider, says Mo Elleithee, executive director at Georgetown University's Institute of Politics and Public Service. In Biden's case, the polls indicate less support among young voters, nonwhite voters, and blue collar workers. With Biden and Trump agreeing to a series of debates in June and September, can the president use the head-to-head settings to regain ground with those crucial groups? The Democratic National Convention will take place in Chicago this summer. There are some concerns that the contentious atmosphere surrounding the convention, including nationwide campus protests and anger with the president's support for the war in Gaza, could lead to a scene similar to the unrest at 1968's DNC, also in Chicago. Are those concerns overblown? And would more protests allow Donald Trump to emerge as a figure who can end the growing sense of chaos among voters?Kansas is the focus of our 50 states series this week. Mandatory diversity, equity, and inclusion statements have become a growing legal concern for legislators and administrators in Kansas and at universities across the country. Does requiring a commitment to DEI fall mean forcing an ideology on faculty and students?

CBP documents show he crossed in September of 2022 into El Paso, Texas and was released due to lack of detention space. The 26 year old from Venezuela was arrested today by ICE-ERO Atlanta. He is being charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call and concealing the death of another— According to UGA Police Chief Jeffrey L. Clark. Officials say Riley went for a run on the University of Georgia's Athens campus yesterday and was later found dead. DHS sources confirm that Jose Antonio Ibarra was arrested 5 months ago in New York. Records show he was arrested on 9/14/23 in Queens, NY for injury to child less than 17 and no license. This is what was happening back when Ibarra crossed into El Paso in September of 2022, “U.S. Border Patrol has been so overwhelmed in the region and the shelters are at capacity — One processing center is three times above its normal capacity, nonprofit shelters are starving for beds and volunteers, and a sudden surge of arrivals from Venezuela is ineligible for expulsion, the @BorderReportcom reported…” [SEGMENT 2-2] MSNBC's post-mortem of SC Biden has provided states with good glide paths. Apparently Joe Biden is no Boy Scout when it comes to impromptu speeches. Unless Biden has his cheat sheets, he's ineffective at pressers. And people are finally commenting on Biden's need to carry flash cards with prepared questions and answers. He's been doing this for a while now, but the pictures of the notes have been more of an tongue-in-cheek joke. Things have changed for Biden, as the cards are no longer gentle nudges by way of bullet points. Today, Joe Biden is told who to call on, and how to respond. In the example above, Biden knows the exact question he will be asked. And you can bet his answer is already on that not-so-trusty teleprompter. We've gone from journalism to propaganda, no different than in the former Soviet Union. What about with donors? While Biden can be forgiven for having cheat notes at his press conferences, as he can claim to want to get the facts straight. But at donor gatherings, Biden should have no need for cheat notes. https://twitter.com/HansNichols/status/1761037552704753855 According to sources, Biden can't carry on a simple conversation. Axios writes: President Biden has been using notecards in closed-door fundraisers, calling on prescreened donors and then consulting his notes to provide detailed answers, according to people familiar with the routine. Why it matters: Biden's reliance on notecards to help explain his own policy positions — on questions he knows are coming — is raising concerns among some donors about Biden's age.The president is 81 but claims he feels younger. The staged Q&A sessions have left some donors wondering whether Biden can withstand the rigors of a presidential campaign, let alone potential debates with former President Trump, 77.Biden advisers say the president is given notecards only for very detailed and technical questions, and say he frequently does spontaneous Q&As.Most recent presidents — including Trump, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and Barack Obama — have carried crib notes, or used teleprompters, to help guide them through various public events and meetings. In Biden's case, donors have noticed he's also using notecards in private events.Biden's campaign dismissed such concerns. Do you really believe that Biden's campaign dismisses what's happening to him? How sick are Democrats if they see a clearly diminished Biden, and they donate money to him anyway? The way you know Biden is dying on the vine is the Left will tout his fundraising. They will try to convince the public that Biden remains a fundraising machine. After all, who would donate to a political dead man? But the real indicator will be what Donald Trump raises. Will the news report on Trump's fundraising? Not the GOP's fundraising, but Trump's fundraising? And after Trump demolishes the Deep State Republican RINOs, they will be forced to look down-ticket; to actually support Trump. Biden is toast. Soggy toast. And the longer Democrats prop him up offers a glimpse into their real problems. They can't find a replacement who can cover for the rampant cheating that will necessary to prevent Trump from his rightful second term.

President Joe Biden has been reported to express candid views of former President Donald Trump in private gatherings, as observed by Politico's 'West Wing Playbook'. The incumbent President previously had a close call in public during a Pennsylvania rally where he was about to use strong words against Trump, referencing an incident related to Paul Pelosi. While Biden refrained from using any inappropriate phrases, behind closed doors his thoughts about his potential political opponent are known to be quite frank and devoid of any political sugar-coating. According to Politico's reports, three confidantes of the President attest to the quite vivid language he uses to describe Trump. In Biden's eyes, there is a sense of bewilderment and disgust towards the former President's delight in others' misfortunes. One of the persons recounting these conversations even disclosed that Biden expressed how he perceives Trump: a person of questionable character. Such revelations come at a time where, throughout Trump's tenure, he faced significant scorn, particularly from the liberal media and Democrats, for his at-times abrasive rhetoric and persona. In contrast, Biden's behind-the-scenes conversation exhibits a more uncensored and quick-tempered narrative, away from the public eye. Now, the political arena is not disjoint from the ramifications of these narratives. Biden's image, in the electoral context, is reportedly wavering in key battleground states for the 2024 elections. The topic of immigration looms large on the political landscape, and it appears to be impacting the President's prospects. Taking a look at the numbers, in swing states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Biden lags behind Trump. The figures derived from a Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll show a margin of three to ten points favoring Trump. The overall average shows a lead of 6 points for Trump over Biden in all states, as cited by Newsweek.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (06/30/2023): 3:05pm- In a six to three decision released on Friday, the Supreme Court rejected the Biden Administration's claim that under the Heroes Act—adopted after the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2002—the executive branch possesses the unilateral authority to erase an estimated $430 billion in student loan debt. Writing the majority opinion, Chief Justice John Roberts explained that, in erasing student loan debt, the White House had attempted to “rewrite” the Heroes Act “from the ground up.” Jess Bavin of The Wall Street Journal summarizes Roberts' argument: “Roberts highlighted the hardship that fell on those who hadn't taken on student debt. Imagine, he said, a high-school graduate who borrowed money to set up a lawn-care business, while a classmate instead went to college on a student loan.” You can read more about the court's decision in Biden v. Individuals are the sum of their unique experiences, challenges, and accomplishments. What matters is not the barriers they face, but how they choose to confront them. And their race is not to blame for everything—good or bad—that happens in their lives. Resident Biden has set another record. I'm Peter Serefine with today's Liberty Minute. As of two days ago, 609 dead bodies have been found on the US side of our southern border this year. The record was previously set by the Biden administration last year. In Biden's first year in office, 566 dead bodies were found. By comparison, before the Biden Administration, in 2020, 247 bodies were found. The lackadaisical immigration policy of this administration is encouraging people to seek help from cartels and smugglers for the long and dangerous journey. Where is the disgust and outrage over all of the dead brown people? How is this not a headline from every news outlet in the nation? Kids in cages was a headline for over a year, but that is nothing compared to 1175 dead under this administration. With the State of the Union address tonight, we can reflect on the disastrous first year of the Biden administration. It's been so bad that a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans say Biden's first year was an abject failure. In Biden's defense, it's hard to have a bad year when you don't know what year it is. As the conflict in Ukraine continues, we look at one report addressing the real problem — transgender acceptance. Apparently, in times of war the things that really matter are inclusion and diversity. Mark Lawrence and Joe McGranaghan start out with Joe's Fox News clipping, that the main stream media is abandoning Pres. Biden. In Biden's favor. Mark and callers say the stimulus package, infrastructure package, his talking with GOP members initially, his handling of the Ukraine, Afghanistan and the Keystone XL pipeline as being among his assets. Joe and callers say Pres. Biden has mishandled Ukraine, Afghanistan, inflation, gas price, the pandemic and southern border are detriments.
In Biden's recent address to the people of the United States, he appeared to leave open the door for Democrats to question the legitimacy of this year's congressional elections due to new voting laws being passed by Republican controlled state legislatures. The. comments came just as West Virginia State Senator Joe Manchin was on the floor of the Senate reaffirming that he would not go along with changing Senate filibuster rules thereby effectively dooming the President's call for sweeping new Federal laws that would override what GOP lawmakers are doing in the states. Another crushing defeat for Biden. How big of a defeat was this for Dems in general? And what will it mean for this fall's midterms? In Biden's proposed Build Back Better plan, there's a part in there that will affect 87 million Americans. The Dems are trying to sneak in ways to tax the hell out of the middle class. And who doesn't love dealing with the IRS more than they already do? Friend of the show, sponsor, and tax expert Randy Martin joins the show to break it all down for us. FDA ISSUES FULL APPROVAL FOR PFIZER VACCINE75 doctors in South Florida walked out of their hospital in protest against having to treat unvaccinated patients with Covid. The Palm Beach Gardens doctors say their intention was to get people to recognize the importance of vaccines....I wonder if these doctors plan to protest against having to treat smokers for lung cancer. Will they protest having to treat obese people for diabetes? They should lose their medical licenses. They're nothing but politicians in white lab coats. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave full approval for Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine for everyone 16 and older. Until now, all three vaccines were available under "emergency use authorization." That was quick. Previously, the fastest vaccine to get full approval was the mumps vaccine and it took 4 years. And on average, approval can take more than a decade.Although information says otherwise: - Two letters were issued by the FDA- The FDA-authorized vaccine does NOT yet exist in the marketplace. Not available.- Pfizer vaccine still under EUA, still has liability shield- The Comernity vaccine (BioNtech) is NOT available, not started manufacturing or labeling- In the interim, the one with the liability shield is the Pfizer product, still under EUA.So how did the Pfizer shot get approved in 1 year? Joe Biden wanted it to. And the unfortunate reality is that even our health agencies are highly politicized. So even though several standard safety and efficacy studies will not be completed for years, the FDA gave Biden the full approval he wanted. Why did Biden want full FDA approval? When the vaccine was under 'emergency use authorization' it was harder for federal agencies and corporations to mandate their workers take it. But now with full authorization, it makes it harder for employees to push back. In Biden's own words: "Today I'm calling on more companies...in the private sector to step up the vaccine requirements... If you're a business leader, a non-profit leader, a state or local leader, who has been waiting for full FDA approval to require vaccinations, I call on you now to do that."It was all about the ability to mandate. Corporations will take a few days to fall in line. But government officials are already reacting:New York City announced that all public school teachers and staff must be vaccinated. Eliminating the weekly testing alternative. The Pentagon is set to require all U.S. military service personnel to be vaccinatedAssociated risks that are documented under the FDA's approval include myocarditis and pericarditis, two types of heart inflammation that have affected some men under 40 after receiving their second dose. The FDA approval includes a requirement that Pfizer submits several study results evaluating the occurrence of these reactions.[Source: American Greatness, Daily Wire]Sorta related: After Biden made his speech announcing that Pfizer had given full approval, he quickly ran off stage while reporters shouted at him, taking no questions on Afghanistan. This guy is going to be best known for the back of his head.Fun Fact:STATES WITH BEST ECONOMIC RECOVERY AFTER COVIDHere are the 10 states with the lowest level of unemployment:1. Nebraska: 2.3%2. Utah: 2.6%3. New Hampshire: 2.9%4. South Dakota: 2.9 %5. Idaho: 3.0 %6. Vermont: 3.0 %7. Alabama: 3.2 %8. Oklahoma: 3.5 %9. Montana: 3.6 %10. Georgia: 3.7 %Notice anything? Every single one of them has a Republican governor. Contributing to this trend, GOP-led states were generally lighter on their lockdown restrictions. And all of the states above [except Vermont] have prematurely terminated the Federal supplemental unemployment benefits that have been blamed for keeping workers intentionally sidelined instead of returning to the workforce.https://www.spreaker.com/user/9922149/the-fda-issues-full-approval-for-pfizer-#Boykin4CongressPeter R Boykin Peter Boykin For United States Congress https://BoykinForCongress.comhttps://t.me/RealPeterBoykinhttps://t.me/BoykinForCongress
Has there ever been a more incompetent administration? In Biden's words, "I'm serious folks". Where are the resignations for this travesty? Where is the accountability? Let's discuss today on the On Point With Victor radio show.
This episode the National Crawford Roundtable discusses the current fiasco in Afghanistan. How serious is this humiliation for the United States? Are we experiencing another, "fall of Saigon" moment? Was the 20 year war a waste of time, effort and resources? In Biden's address to the nation he defended, "his" decision to end the war, but wasn't it Trump who negotiated the war's end? Isn't the bigger issue not that we left, but HOW we left? Trump negotiated an agreement that was dependent upon the Taliba not trying to seize control of Afghanistan, but after Biden took office the Taliban started advancing, but Biden did not respond accordingly. And why does the spokesman for the Taliban have an active Twitter account, but Trump does not? The Taliban is already alluding to reinstating Sharia Law--how will that affect women and homosexuals in the country? Will executions of gays happen again? Will women be forced to wear Burqas, not be allowed to leave their homes without a male escort or written permission from their husbands? Will women be denied an education and employment? What about the military equipment, weapons, ammunition, tanks, etc. that has been left behind--how will they be used by the Taliban? Does this mean we have, "officially" lost the war on terror against the Taliban? What should we have done differently?
The optimism surrounding the announcement of a bipartisan infrastructure deal on Thursday was doused with a bucket of sudden uncertainty on Friday, as Republican senators expressed shock to learn of conditions President Joe Biden set for signing the deal. In Biden's second of two press conferences Thursday, he said he would only sign the infrastructure deal in tandem with a companion package of nearly $6 trillion containing funding for other administration priorities. Senators who were part of the bipartisan group were never told of such an explicit linking of the two packages, two people familiar with the discussions told the Associated Press. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina tweeted Friday, “No deal by extortion!”

In this week's Immigration Law for Tech Startups podcast, I'll discuss the latest immigration changes under the Biden administration. In Biden's first 100 days in office, there have been some meaningful changes in immigration for startups, founders, investors, researchers, highly skilled professionals, students, Dreamers, and families under his administration. Firstly, the Biden administration has ended some Trump era policies such as the Muslim ban, the banning of the public charge rule, as well as the working visa bans, specifically on H1-B visas, J visas, and L visas. Biden has allowed many of these rules to lapse. Notably, green card processing is back on at U.S. embassies and consulates around the world (which is great news!) There have been many changes that will definitely benefit families, asylum seekers and people in removal proceedings. This has been the main focus of the administration. Although not so much on the business side, we are still starting to see positive changes in business immigration as well. Please share this episode with companies, HR and recruiting professionals, startup founders, international talent, or anyone who can benefit from it. In Biden’s America, every week seems to be infrastructure week. For weeks, Democrats on both the House and Senate have been working to get a package that keeps a focus on infrastructure. And this work has focused specially on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman Peter DeFazio. Today, POLITICCO’s Sam Mintz has an update on the role of climate in the bills. Sam Mintz is also a transportation reporter for POLITICO. Anthony Adragna is an energy reporter for POLITICO and host of POLITICO Energy. Carlos Prieto is a Politico podcast producer. On this edition of Parallax Views, what does President Joe Biden's decision to withdrawal troops from Afghanistan mean in the context of America's history with war and foreign intervention? Joining us to discuss this and the history of U.S. foreign policy in Afghanistan is the Watson Institute's Stephen Kinzer, author of Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq. This conversation was spurred on by Kinzer's April op-ed in the Boston Globe entitled "In Biden’s pledge to withdraw from Afghanistan, the prospect of turning an imperial tide". We begin by delving into the origins of how Stephen Kinzer developed his thinking on foreign policy, which in contrast to the D.C. consensus, emphasize restraint and skepticism towards the supposed effectiveness and benefits of imperial adventurism and foreign interventions. From there we delve into the origins of U.S. imperial ambitions and the American Exceptionalism that fuel those ambitions. In this regard Kinzer discusses an early intervention into the Philippines as well as detailing how the ethos of America's right to rule informs an understanding of historical that is to the detriment of learning history's lesson. From there we dive into the deep history of America's foreign intervention into Afghanistan following the events of September 11th, 2001. Kinzer notes how Afghanistan has fought foreign invaders many times over the course of centuries, and then takes us back to the overthrow of the Shah of Iran in 1979 and the Soviet-Afghan conflict of the Cold War. We go on to discuss the role of the CIA in the Soviet-Afghan conflict by way of its support of the mujahedeen and how this relates to the genesis of the Taliban. In this regard Kinzer responds to criticism that critics of U.S. foreign policy are "conspiracy theorists" who believe that the U.S. created jihadist militant organizations like al Qaeda. We also take some time to discuss how Operation Ajax, the covert operation that overthrew the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran Mohammad Mossadegh in 1953, may also arguably create a domino effect of decades-spanning, far-reaching consequences that would eventually. Moreover, Kinzer discusses pushback against criticisms of the U.S. role in the growth of jihadist terrorism vis-à-vis accusations that such criticisms are based on conspiracy theories claiming that the United States directly created al Qaeda. In addition, Stephen Kinzer discusses the role of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan's ISI (intelligence services) in this area as well. We conclude the conversation by delving into the importance of Biden's statements concerning withdrawal and that Afghans must decide their future rather than Americans. Additionally, Kinzer discusses how we are moving towards a multipolar world and how a combination of foreign policy restraint and better domestic policies at home will actually benefit not only our national security but the well-being of ourselves and other countries more than continued foreign interventions. Moreover, Kinzer makes notes of how the American people, if not the beltway itself, are now embracing a more restrained vision of America's role in the world that stands in contrasts to D.C. stalwarts like Robert Kagan and Samantha Power
The first 100 days of any U.S. Presidential administration is where the incoming president sets his priorities and outlines his vision for the future. In Biden's first 100 days there have been significant steps forward related to immigration law and policy related to reuniting children separated under the Trump administration with their parents, strengthening DACA and protections for asylum seekers and supporting new legislative initiatives. Ethical concerns are of prime importance in immigration law and the panel today discusses some common predatory and deceptive practices by lawyers and non-lawyers alike in the immigration law arena. In these episodes, we talk about… Biden's First 100 Days, Immigration Reform status of current bills, and thoughts about better options. Common ethical issues that come up in Immigration Practice and how we navigate those issues. The risk of unethical practices multiplying if there is comprehensive immigration reform. What people should look out for with attorneys and why to avoid notarios and non-lawyers. What a DOJ Accredited Representative is and how that differs from an Attorney or Notario. Examples of unscrupulous practices by attorneys and how clients can avoid them or what to do if they have already retained someone they believe may be unethical and/or committing ineffective assistance in their case. This week on the Minnesota Native News health report, tribal leaders are stressing the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine to help curb the spread in Minnesota's Indian Country. Reporter Dalton Walker explains with this week's stories. The internet is a powerful tool. Tribes use it to communicate directly with citizens in near real time. It's easy to find a post on Facebook or a YouTube video with relevant and reliable information that may affect you or your tribal community. Boise Forte Band of Chippewa Chairwoman Cathy Chavers regularly shares updates via YouTube. Other tribal leaders and tribal health officials across the state do the same. In one of her latest messages, Chavers said the tribe will launch a vaccination message focused on tribal citizens under 30 years of age. Chavers: We are trying to reach out to those age categories who have been already vaccinated to tell their friends to please get the vaccination, please get vaccinated, it's very important. Sometimes, people don't like the government telling them what to do, I don't feel like I should be wearing a mask, I don't feel like I should be vaccinated. But if you get the virus and you end up real sick, you can also get others very sick and you could possibly pass from this virus.3:28-3:53= 26 secondsThe tribe has seen a recent increase in positive cases from unvaccinated eligible people, Chavers said. Chavers asked citizens questioning the vaccine's safety to contact their health providers. Remember, be sure to subscribe or follow your tribes' social media channels for the latest information by simply searching keywords online. In other news…Soon, our young people ages 12 to 15 will be eligible for the coronavirus vaccine. The Food and Drug Administration is expected to authorize Pfizer's vaccine for youth as young as 12. Reports say the FDA may endorse Pfizer's vaccine for even younger children later this year. Pfizer was the first federally approved vaccine and requires two-doses.Children rarely get seriously ill from the coronavirus. However, children with no symptoms can still spread it to other people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Teens as young as 16 were given the green light to get the vaccine not long after the rollout began. Youth from the Lower SIoux Indian Community shared why they got the vaccine in a short public service announcement. Five high school students were part of the video posted on the tribe's Facebook page this month. Youth: And the reason I got the covid vaccine is to keep my elders safe. And the reason I got the vaccine so that life could hopefully go back to normal. I got the vaccine because I wanted to protect those around me. I'm getting vaccinated to help prevent the spread of corona to young kids and elders. 0:22-0:39= 18 secondsAnd finally…President Joe Biden has a new vaccination goal for the country. Biden wants at least one shot to 70 percent of adults by Fourth of July. The goal comes as nearly 105 million U.S. citizens are fully vaccinated, according to the White House. The Indian health system is doing its part. In Biden's first 100 days as president, 1.1 million vaccine doses have been administered in Indian Country, according to Indian Health Service. For Minnesota Native News health report, I'm Dalton Walker
Great news, New Yorkers! Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed a law legalizing Marijuana. Now if Cuomo thinks this will get everyone to chill out and forget his corruption... he's probably right! Asked to comment on pot being legal, New York City said "This is great! I can finally sleep". In White House dog news, Joe's German Shepherd is up to no good again-- he pooped in the White House hallway. Asked for a statement, the dog said "I don't see what the big deal is. Everyone says the White House is where our country does its business." In Biden family news, Hunter has been dodging questions about a seized laptop, admitting that he did have one stolen, but he doesn't know if the one the FBI has is his. The FBI replied "Well let's narrow it down. This one's filled with porn and covered in cocaine." He said "OK yeah that's mine." In Vermont, a school district was so desperate for classroom space that students are now attending classes in a Macy's department store. Classes are going well and they've just added several electives, including Remedial Clothes Folding and A.P. Perfume Spraying. In ride-sharing news, Uber has been ordered to pay $1.1M to a blind woman after she was denied rides more than a dozen times. Asked if she's happy about the settlement, the woman said "Sure! I can now afford a ride home from downtown during surge pricing!" Finally, vaccine passports are the latest right-wing culture war obsession, and Florida has just banned them in the name of "freedom". Because the founding fathers had a dream, OK sheeple? And that dream was to let curable diseases fester amongst the uneducated.
Intro: (Cue intro music) Hey everyone, welcome back to What a week!, I'm your host, Olivia Lee, here to deliver your weekly dose of the news. Let's get started! In Local News: https://www.oregonlive.com/portland/2021/03/13-arrested-after-police-kettle-over-100-protesters-in-portlands-pearl-district.htmlLast Friday night, police arrested 13 protesters after detaining a group of more than 100 in the Pearl District. Officers kettled the protesters, employing a controversial police tactic used to contain people within a perimeter. The practice has been at the center of multiple lawsuits and criticized by numerous civil rights advocates. The protest was billed as a direct action march with no specified target. Shortly after the march began, police told the protesters they were detaining everyone within the kettle boundary. The police did not immediately provide details about the alleged criminal conduct, but Sergeant Kevin Allen, a police spokesperson, later said there was a quote “reasonable suspicion” that everyone inside the kettle perimeter had quoted “committed at least one criminal violation.” Police also said demonstrators had smashed windows and blocked traffic by marching in the street.In-state news:https://ktvz.com/news/coronavirus/2021/03/14/oregon-reports-no-new-covid-19-related-deaths-one-year-after-states-first-deathLast Sunday marked one year since Oregon's first COVID-19 death. There were no new COVID-19 related deaths in Oregon on the anniversary and the state's death toll remains at 2,322 as reported by the Oregon Health Authority. OHA also reported on Sunday, 234 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 bringing the state total to 159,617.In National News:https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ryancbrooks/coronavirus-vaccine-eligible-bidenLast Thursday, president Joe Biden announced that he's directing all states, tribes, and territories to allow every adult in the U.S. to be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination by May 1st. This is considered to be a key part of moving the country into the next phase of battling the pandemic. In Biden's national address on the one-year anniversary of the pandemic being declared, he said quote "All adult Americans will be eligible to get a vaccine no later than May 1. That's much earlier than expected. Let me be clear: That doesn't mean everyone's going to have that shot immediately, but it means you'll be able to get in line beginning May 1." The announcement marks a sharp shift toward federal control over the pandemic response. As of recent, individual states have primarily been the ones tasked with leading vaccine rollout and setting eligibility requirements.https://www.cnet.com/personal-finance/biden-signs-1-9-trillion-stimulus-bill-making-1400-checks-and-3600-child-tax-credit-official/Last week, President Joe Biden also signed the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package bill into law, which includes a third stimulus check, for up to $1,400, and an expanded child tax credit. The bill signing was just one day after the amended bill passed in the House by a vote of 220-211. The House initially passed the bill on Feb. 26th, and the Senate approved it two weeks ago, after making some changes. The IRS stated last Friday that more rounds of stimulus checks will be deposited into bank accounts over the next few weeks.
