On "EWTN News Nightly" tonight: An unclassified FBI document has finally been made public. The document involves an alleged bribary scheme between then Vice President Joe Biden and a Ukrainian oil executive when President Biden's son Hunter was a board member for the oil company. Former President Donald Trump is headed to trial on May 20th, 2024. Prosecutors aimed for December but defense lawyers wanted it "after" the 2024 Presidential election. Now it won't start until well after the Republican nominee is clear but before that person is officially nominated at the Republican National Convention. Meanwhile the White House held a discussion today with AI executives looking for ways to protect the public, as the administration announces it has secured “voluntary commitments…to manage the risks posed by AI.” Last month, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a website designer, Lori Smith, in the case of 303 Creative LLC v Elenis. The Non-Prophets, Episode 22.28.1 featuring Kelley Laughlin, Kara Griffin, Helen Greene and Teo el AteoThe Supreme Court rules for a designer who doesn't want to make wedding websites for gay couples, AP News, By Jessica Gresko, June 30, 2023 https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-gay-rights-website-designer-aa529361bc939c837ec2ece216b296d5 Question abound, how did such a contrived scenario get to the U.S. Supreme Court in the first place? It seems only for the purpose of allowing it to rule that you don't have to make a website for a gay couple when no one had even asked for one.Lori Smith does not even build websites yet. She said she wants to do so but her Christian faith would keep her from creating websites celebrating same-sex marriages.Things got heated up when concerns about Lori Smith's claims of supposed clients proved fruitful. One person doesn't seem to exist, and another claims to have been happily married already for well over ten years. Many predicted that this outcome based on the makeup of this court and there were a lot of people who voted in the previous presidential election specifically because they were want to roll back women and LGBTQIA+ rights and other marginalized groups. Are we seeing that effort coming to fruition? Is it okay for businesses to decide whether or not they want to provide a particular service based on their whim? It reminds one of Jim Crow laws, what else is going to be rolled back in this spiral of looking to the past for the wrong answers. Could we see religion and race used to deny services again?Justice Gorsuch who wrote in the majority opinion that the First Amendment envisions the United States as a rich and complex place where all persons are free to think and speak as they wish not as the government demands. The statement is really telling about the narrative that is being spun. People are claiming that the government is trying to force them to tolerate the existence of queer people and this conflicts with their religious beliefs. In dissent, Justice Sotomayor wrote “Today is a sad day in American constitutional law and in the lives of LGBT people. ... the immediate, symbolic effect of the decision is to mark gays and lesbians for second-class status.”The real issue is a large group of people in the United States think queer people are gross and that the opinion they hold is more important than anyone else's rights or legal protections. And that is very concerning

Today, we're talking again about burnout and the CURE. I had a fantastic conversation with burnout expert Rachelle Stone and Lori Smith a few weeks back. I had a sense then I should open up about my struggle with burnout and what I learned from it, but then I chickened out. I went the safe route and did a couple of interviews with outstanding entrepreneurs. But then I was coaching a client about finding the courage to own their story and use it to help others. I realized it was time for me to do the same. So here it goes! Hi, I'm Betsy. I'm a recovering stressaholic. It's been 30 minutes since my last email check. Okay, five minutes. The truth is, I have struggled with burnout for years due to the challenges of running a business and raising kids as a single mom. Recently, after a cross-country move and becoming an empty nester, I experienced another burnout at new levels. This burnout was more like soul burnout or spiritual fatigue that no trips to the spa, bubble baths, or even a new set of supplements would solve. This experience forced me to take a hard look at my approach to balance and self-care. I realized that I had been neglecting my needs and boundaries around work, and I needed to make some changes in my life and business to prevent burnout from taking over again. That's why I want to share my journey of recovery and reinvention! I will also share the practical tips and tools that have helped me bounce-back from burnout. So, let's get started with the CURE method for burnout recovery! Where To Dive In [2:11] Compassion. The first step to curing burnout. [04:07] How to know of you're burnedout or just busy and stressed. [05:13] Understanding. The next step to get beyond symptoms and get to root causes. [05:38] Categories that will help you understand your burnout. [06:32] Identify the categories contributing to your burnout. [09:09] Reimaging and reinventing your life and business. [09:29] Why and how to do a start/stop/continue on your life and business. Learn where you really need to focus so you can get out of burnout. [18:43] What is giving your energy and what is draining you? How can this change your life and business? [19:17] Energy and capacity management. [23:30] Why you need to focus on doing the things "only you can do" and let go of the rest. Next Steps I want to leave you with three actions you can take today to start your burnout recovery journey: • First, take a break! Whether it's a five-minute breathing exercise or a day off, prioritize rest and self-care.• Second, journal about your own burnout experience. What are the messages it's trying to tell you? What changes can you make to address the root causes?• And finally, consider seeking support from a coach, therapist, or supportive community. Sometimes it takes a village to overcome burnout. And if your burnout is because you have work you have fallen out of love with or are just tired of growing your business alone, I'm here for you. Head to www.betsyjordyn.com/services to learn how I can empower you to create a business and life you love. Remember, burnout is not something that happens because you're lazy or can't cope with stress. You can find your path toward recovery and reinvention with compassion, understanding, a willingness to reimagine, and vigilant energy management. Take care! Want to take the best of your career and use it as the foundation of your own business? Then you're going to love this open and honest conversation I have with corporate leader turned consulting business owner Lori Smith. Lori Smith had over 20 years of experience working as a senior leader at Wyndham. She created a unique role in the company that combined her finance background with her six sigma efficiency skills. She used her natural relationship-building savvy to corral stakeholders around common strategic priorities. And then she was laid off. She found herself at a crossroads. When she and I started to work together on her business strategy and plan, her initial question was, “Do I find another corporate job or take the leap and start my own business?” We worked on clarifying the value she offered, and this question got transformed into a better question, “How do I take the parts of my career that I loved and build a business around that?” Lori and I get real as we talk about: Why she needed to look at her life goals, not just career when determining if she should start a business How to deal with the naysayers who question your decision to start a business Why grief is a necessary part of the business build process and how it's the key to getting to clarity on your niche and superpowers Why trusting yourself is the most critical thing you need for success How her business goals for being a fully present mom have been met and exceeded Where to dive in: [8:36] How do people move out of one functional area and see how they can apply their skills to other roles? [12:00] Tune into Betsy and Lori's conversations about leaving Wyndham and how her skills would transfer to a different career. [16:05] Hear why Lori knew that recreating her old career was not the answer. [18:00] It's hard to get people to change their perception of you. Hear why Lori had to practice her "What I do" statement and why she had to learn how to convey this with confidence. [21:21] There is a grieving process when you leave corporate. Hear what you have to let go of to gain clarity. [25:00] What are the things you're afraid you're going to lose when leaving corporate? How do they shape what you want to do going forward? [29:13] Hear what Lori sees when leaders don't go through the grieving process and the consequences. [31:45] Hear why working on the right things create results. [34:22] If you could go back in time and talk to Lori when she leaves corporate, what would you say? [36:04] Hear a big takeaway from Lori about jumping into consulting and coaching business ownership. Next steps: Allow yourself to go through the grieving process when leaving corporate. Acceptance will give you clarity. Give yourself the space to figure out what you want from your business so you start right. Get the mentorship and guidance you need when starting your business. About my guest: Lori Smith has a passion for helping senior teams get aligned around strategic priorities that will actually increase profits and grow the business.
