Season 20, Episode 49 of The Adventures of Pipeman. It's the Pipeman in the Pit weekly segment of The Adventures of Pipeman.Chapter 1: Carmine Appice and his reformed Cactus on behalf of the new blues rock album, Temple Of Blues II, that's due out April 3 via Cleopatra Records. Now the Temple opens again, this time for an all-star aggregation that recalls Ted Nugent, Billy Sheehan, Bumblefoot, Dee Snider and Pat Travers from volume one, alongside an all-new wave of heavy hitters including Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns), Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple), Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot), Alex Skolnick (Testament), and a whole lot more! And Temple Of Blues II takes us back to their birth. That summer, Cactus were among the main attractions at the Isle of Wight Festival in England, and the new album's “Purple Haze” reunites them with both another of that bill's audience favorites, Melanie, and its overall headliner, Jimi Hendrix.Elsewhere on this thunderous sequel, Pat Travers returns for the mighty “Moanin' At Midnight,” Joe Lynn Turner joins Morse, Carmine's Guitar Zeus bandmate Tony Franklin and Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) for “Bad Stuff,” Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) and Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns) lead the way for “The Little Red Rooster,” and Ted Nugent and Bob Daisley (Rainbow) join forces for an astonishing “Spoonful.”Track List:1. Back Door Man Pt. 1 & 2 feat. Eric Gales & Billy Sheehan 2. 300 Pounds Of Joy feat. Ty Tabor3. Moanin' At Midnight feat. Pat Travers4. Down In The Bottom feat. Dug Pinnick5. Token Chokin' feat. Bumblefoot6. Bad Stuff feat. Steve Morse, Joe Lynn Turner, Derek Sherinian & Tony Franklin7. Tail Dragger feat. Rudy Sarzo & Alex Skolnick8. The Little Red Rooster feat. Dee Snider, Tracii Guns, Jimmy Haslip9. Purple Haze feat. Melanie10. Spoonful feat. Ted Nugent & Bob DaisleyBONUS TRACK [CD ONLY]11. Feel So Good feat. Billy Sheehan & Britt LightningChapter 2: American heavy metal icons, ARMORED SAINT, are back with their anticipated new full-length, Emotion Factory Reset, set for release on May 22nd through Metal Blade Records.Produced, as were the previous four albums, by bassist Joey Vera and mixed by Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Stone Sour) the record finds the quintet challenging themselves. Songs like “Close To The Bone,” “Hit A Moonshot,” and “Every Man-Any Man”The collaborative nature of Emotion Factory Reset led to the album title, a phrase from Phil Sandoval. “To me, ‘Emotion Factory Reset' means to reset yourself back to clarity. Take a pause and breathe before you respond or react. You can't control outside events, but you can control your mind,” the guitarist says. “How you interpret things is what hurts you, not the event itself.”ARMORED SAINT Presents “Hit A Moonshot” Video / Single From Emotion Factory Reset Full-LengthIn advance of the record's release, the band presents the first single and album opener, “Close To The Bone.” Comments Bush, “The first track on the record sounds like vintage ARMORED SAINT. Yet vintage that comes out in 2026! How did we do that? The title of the record, Emotion Factory Reset appears as the first line of the bridge. Killer riffs, awesome rhythms and attacking vocals gets this train rolling. The title implies the human response to withdraw and keep things to yourself instead of being confrontational; Something I believe we all struggle with as humans. Interview by Kris Peters“Each Armored Saint record, to me, is like a new skin for the band, a different chapter. I don't think we've ever repeated ourselves,” stated bassist Joey Vera. “Every album has been pretty different from the previous one, a snapshot in time. In 2026, Emotion Factory Reset is where our heads are at.”Emotion Factory Reset, Armored Saint's ninth full-length studio album since 1984's March of the Saint, bears out his words, the LP a resurrection of sorts, a tearing down and a rebuilding in 11 songs of diverse musicality and lyrical themes. Produced, as were the previous four albums, by Vera and mixed by Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Stone Sour), Emotion Factory Reset finds the quintet challenging themselves. Songs like Close to the Bone, Hit a Moonshot and Every Man-Any Man has Saint honoring their past as one of the most respected and recognizable bands in heavy music while making forward-thinking music rooted in the present. As with 2020's Punching the Sky, Armored Saint are always about punching above their weight and succeeding. Emotion Factory Reset reaches further, both inward and outward. “I mean, there's never gonna be another Master of Puppets or Appetite for Destruction,” vocalist John Bush says. “We can all take inspiration from our previous records, but that was a different time. Armored Saint don't want to make another March of the Saint. I want to keep moving forward, but we know who we are, it's not like we're going to dish out the new trip hop, black metal, bluegrass album.”HEAVY sat down with Vera to dig deeper."You know, every time we make a record, I try not to think too much about that," he replied when asked to describe what the band were going for musically with the album. "Like what are we going to do? What kind of a record are we going to make? Or what direction are we going in? All that stuff. I don't like to really talk about it too much. Because for me, it puts on a little bit too much expectation; it puts like a boundary on it and I'd rather the playing field be able to just be wide open.So the only thing that I really was attempting to do this time was to write songs that were a little more concise in their arrangements and the song length. I have a tendency to write long songs; longer songs than normal. So I wanted to challenge myself and challenge the listeners along the way to see if I could write shorter songs, basically, for lack of a better explanation. Our goal is to really just challenge ourselves as songwriters and try not to make the same record twice. We're always trying to push the boundaries a little bit without alienating all our fans, of course. So there's a fine line between brilliance and stupidity (laughs), but there is a fine line between and paying homage to where we come from."In the full interview, Joey described the band's deliberate songwriting approach for this record, noting they intentionally wrote shorter, more concise arrangements while pushing stylistic boundaries and maintaining continuity with their past work. He explained the album balances influences from 1970s classic rock, early 1980s hard rock, and contemporary sounds to produce a fresh yet familiar record for longtime fans.Joey also described the album-title selection process, saying the title came from a line in the song Close to the Bone after the band considered many lyrical options before settling on Emotion Factory Reset. He reflected on the creative challenge of beginning a record, stating that starting the first songs is the hardest part and that inspiration requires sustained effort and patience, the early days of the band and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Armored Saint singer John Bush and bass player Joey Vera, who are currently out on tour with Queensryche. They'll be coming through Detroit to play the Majestic Theater on April 14th. Joey said of touring with the QR guys, "It's always fun touring with friends, people you get along with." We talked about their experience on the Monsters Of Rock Cruise. "Yeah, they're fun. You always see a lot of people you know." Joey said. The guys told me about going to Anthrax's Scott Ian's 60th birthday in Las Angeles at the end of 2023. John said there were some really talented people there celebrating the milestone. The band recently recorded a cover of "One Chain Don't Make No Prison" which they're going to release as a stand-alone single. That being said, the guys are all about making full albums. They talked about album reissues, as well as vinyl copies of all their albums. I had to ask them about the new Armored Saint music they're working on. As far as writing on the road, Joey said they don't do it. "We just write at our own pace." He went on to say they have six or seven songs demoed. They'll be touring and then returning to the studio to finish it up by the end of the year. Something I didn't know about Armored Saint was that their first show outside of hometown shows was at Harpos. They said they played a radio station show way back in 1984. "That was our first show ever outside of California," Joey said. John talked of that show being added last minute, as they were supposed to play Chicago first. They also played Cobo Hall on that first tour. "We just couldn't believe what was happening," Joey said of playing some of these classic venues. Joey told the story of crashing a car with Tommy Lee of Motley Crue. We also talked about their tour with W.A.S.P. and Metallica, where they were snowed-in, in Buffalo, New York. Joey also told a funny story from early in their career about a comment he made about Blackie Lawless and W.A.S.P. on the radio. Great to talk to the guys!

The band, which includes Matheos' Fates Warning bassist Joey Vera and legendary drummer Simon Phillips, has just released its self-titled debut album on Metal Blade Records. It's an outstanding blend of what Matheos and Overland are best known for and the album is full of catchy, well-crafted songs that showcase both Matheos' big guitar sound and Overland's bluesy vocals. Steve was kind enough to tell me about how he got involved with the band, how the writing was done, and a bit about his background as well.
