Adapted in a light-hearted, comical style from a diverse set of genuine Medieval Arthurian Romances, this special Three Ravens retelling of the iconic 14th century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is our bonus miniseries for Advent 2024.Split into 25 parts, one for each day of December leading up to and including Christmas Day, the tale follows Gawain, a young knight in King Arthur's court who embarks on a rambling quest, packed with adventures, which takes him all around ancient Britain - a journey which begins at one Midwinter feast and ends at another, exactly one year later. In today's part, Gawain encounters Nimue, the Lady of the Lake, and considers whether or not to meet Rupert, her pet dragon. After that though, it's off to the Kingdom of Kernow (or 'Cornwall' as we'd call it) where Mark, the local lord, is being pretty strict about who's getting into his castle and why...The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays (Magic and Medicines about folk remedies and arcane spells, Three Ravens Bestiary about cryptids and mythical creatures, Dying Arts about endangered heritage crafts, and Something Wicked about folkloric true crime from across history) plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcast Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. This is a big one! The Kernow Foil Classic will go down in all time history as one of the most significant events in foiling in the UK (and worldwide in our biased opinion). It deserved a proper debrief, especially given that Freddie wasn't there! All founding Wang Lordz committed to driving an hour or so to meet up at a central location in a pub on the A30. The first 4 way conversation we've done, and we've done it with pints, mixel grills and bloody football on in the background.... lets just say the editing was time consuming. So, October 2023 saw the UK's first surf foil competition down in Cornwall hosted by Chris Burke/Poseidon and his team, and it couldn't have gone better. Loads of riders and perfect conditions for it. In this episode event organiser Chris and event judges Liam and Rich fill Freddie in on what he missed by having to work elsewhere that weekend instead. Make sure you commit some time to listening to this one, we guarantee you'll enjoy it. And if you don't, you know the score! *!$% Duotone. Enjoy. P.S: Freddie has decided he doesn't want to read adverts in return for money (especially from D**shite), so we might need you to give us some soon if we are ever going to get to AWSI/Oz/Hawaii before the decade is out to bring you silly foiling content like you've never heard it before. We're back for season 18 and we're kicking off with an in-depth look at new feature documentary A Year in a Field, a quiet film by Christopher Morris that is currently on tour around UK cinemas, distributed by Anti-Worlds. Produced by Bosena (Enys Men) in partnership with Stone Club and Falmouth University's Sound/Image Cinema Lab, the film tells the story of Chris's relationship with a 4,000 year old menhir (standing stone) in West Penwith, Kernow, and the slow burn political awakening around the climate crisis that spending time with the stone brought out of the filmmaker. Ahead of the theatrical release Chris and Denzil joined Neil for an on-stage conversation at Falmouth venue, The Poly (a place that should be familiar to Cinematologists listeners) following a preview screening of the film for incoming school of film & television students at Falmouth University. Around the live conversation, Neil and Dario discuss the upcoming season of podcast highlights and regards A Year in a Field, discuss the potential for a political cinema and individualist versus collective responses to structural inequalities and the climate crisis. Running 44@60 Podcast - plotting Trevor Lee's journey to the 2021 44 mile Cornwall Classic Quarter

The organisers describe the KVK - Kernow Vertical Kilometre as 'a unique challenge; a Kilometre of Vert in Kernow!' Starting at Perranporth Airfield the route takes you up to the top of St Agnes Beacon - you then drop left for a lop of around 1.3 miles before returning to the top of the Beacon and then via several more climbs make your way back to the airfield and the Start /Finish area.At this point you either hand over your ankle timing device to your team mate who runs the second lap or like me you crack on and run the second lap. It's a tough run and it's nearly 16 miles in total. I understand now why people rave about it and its toughness. I think though for me doing the Exe to Axe 13 days earlier prepared me for anything and I don't think any parts of the KVK were tougher than some of those climbs in the second half of the Exe to Axe.The scenery is stunning, the event really well organised and there was lots of support out on the course. 180+ signed up but only 120+ turned up. There were 5 signed up in my age cat. I should have noted there numbers pre-race so I could check where I finished as there were no age cat results which was a bit of shame as I was chasing an age cat podium. Overal though a top event and one you should do. Here's the link to the KVK on the Freedom Racing website. This is episode 119 of the Running 44@60 podcast. Kernow is a contrarian investor using fundamental analysis and catalyst-driven mean reversion investing. Alyx is a long-short investor.  Laurence Hulse is a Director of Dowgate Wealth. He is the fund manager of the recently launched investment company Onward Opportunities Ltd. Onward Opportunities' strategy is to pursue inefficiencies in the UK market for small and micro-cap companies. It is a long-only strategy.  Laurence explains his background and how he fell for the style of investing, which he describes as engaged activism, using a velvet glove, not a boxing glove. He gives us examples of how this strategy has been effective in the past, and we talk about the current UK market conditions in which Laurence is launching this new vehicle. Alyx and Laurence are maverick investors among today's market participants who are often passive trackers, index huggers, or trend followers. This was a fascinating discussion about how professional investors seek to outperform with strategies that Alyx describes as suiting their personalities.  In Alyx's capacity as a family office manager, he describes why he likes the strategy of Onward Opportunities and how it compliments his investment style. I greatly enjoyed this chat. I learnt a lot. I hope you do too.

Peter 'the Condor' Mel aka The Mav's Goat sure started off 2021 with a bang... Condor joins the pod to recount his ridiculous backdooring of the Mav's bowl on 8th Jan 2021, and impart wisdoms gleaned from a lifetime going full tilt in Half Moon Bay. At 51 years young and still pushing the boundaries of big wave surfing, Pete gives us some background on the La Niña winter in NorCal, which like him, is showing little sign of letting up. There's much more to Jah's rich shred tapestry than icy cold death teepees of course; we chat to lithe log lord Harry Roach in tropical Queensland, Australia about his style influences, notably the very fine noseriding of Mr Dane Peterson. Meanwhile, find out how and why co-host Mondy, famed for his frugality, spent £750 on a 3 second Cornish tuberide. That's three quarters of a bag of sand on a Kernow tunnel visj... but was it worth it? He says yes. Elsewhere, enjoy the usual thrust and parry of surfing's hot topics being dissected and debated by two middle aged men who were in their primes before the Internet or podcasts were even invented, struggling desperately to maintain relevance in what is essentially, a youth sport. - Moana Wong / Tati West beef & women at the Pipeline. - Accidental lineup shots: Yes please. - Vintage tube stances in the magic 3-4ft range (come back Tudor, all is forgiven): Mike Ho's cheater 5 steez, Jim Banks' peace sign, Occy's hands behind the back, Bugs' iconic pointing etc. - Mondy takes on the FB anti-vaxxer conspiracy theory mafia faction of the Aussie surf media - Leo vs Mikey's not-so-sudden death surf off As the show comes to its thrilling climax, ITNL's exclusive quiz segment 'What C__t Said That?' returns as Mondy poses 10 quotes from surf luminaries and Paul attempts to guess from whose lips they emitted. Paul's choice of song to play out the show if he wins: Tom Zé - Jimmy Renda Se Ben's choice: Grace Jones - William's Blood Subscribe to Wavelength Magazine www.wavelengthmag.com Shop the finest surfgear & accessories: www.shop.wavelengthmag.com Running time: 1h 11min Is 2021 merely 2020 in a trench coat (with its pubes on fire)? Full episode and Show Notes - www.wearelookingsideways.com For the second episode of my Cornish omnibus, I’ve got a beautiful tale for uncertain times: a lovely and heartwarming conversation with British surfer Gwyn Haslock. Chances are you won’t have heard of Gwyn. If that’s the case, I urge you to listen to this episode and discover her wonderful story. Kernow to the core, Gywn has a claim to be one of the UK’s original surfers and is certainly one of the first female surfers in the UK. Today, well into her 70s, she is one of the most loved and recognisable figures in the line-up; taking her pick from the north and south coast Cornish spots she’s been gracing with her presence for the best part of half a century. At the beginning of March 2020, I sat down with Gwyn to discuss her amazing surfing life. It’s a cockle-warming tale and a unique look at the early years of British and Cornish surfing from the perspective of somebody who’s been there since day one. Even better, her brilliantly blithe attitude to surfing is a welcome antidote to the amount of absolute rubbish that usually gets spoken about what is essentially a pretty simple pursuit. My thanks to Gwyn, Demi Taylor and the Watergate Bay Hotel for the help pulling this one today. Hope you enjoy it. Thanks to Matt Ward for the theme tune, and to my editor Fina Charleson.

I sat down with Thomas Cheeseman at his home to talk about his shop and clothing line, Mustard. Mustard is an urban streetwear company with a clean, contemporary look based in Looe, Cornwall. We discuss what Mustard is all about and how Tom got into shopkeeping, which took him to launching his own clothing label. This conversation is full of great stories and I think what Tom is doing with his company is really inspiring to all young entrepreneurs as it shows what you can do with a little know how and some hard work. It also shows how, in a fast moving industry like fashion wear, what you need to be prepared to do to stay relevant and in business.  I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did, thank you for downloading and listening to the Kernow Kast If you would like to get in touch with Tom about his clothing line you can contact him at Whatsup@mustardclothing.co.uk or visit their online store at mustardclothing.co.uk  They are also on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.   Kernowkast@gmail.com if you wish to contact myself or find us on Facebook or Twitter
