We all work hard for our paychecks, and sometimes it can feel like our income falls short of our financial needs--maybe especially for those of us employed by a local church. That may be true, but today our guest Brian Kluth has an important reminder to share. God, not our day job, is our primary provider. Our salary is one way God provides, but it's not the only one. There are many ways God chooses to bless those who say yes to His calling on their lives, and it's up to us to trust Him to ultimately bring provisions. Brian is far from a prosperity gospel teacher. Instead, his years of experience as a pastor, financial expert, and missionary provide story after story of how God has surpassed each of his needs. His teaching has helpful reminders for all of us, both for practical financial day-to-day decisions, as well as a God-centered mindset that reminds us where to place our trust.Brian will be one of the featured speakers at our convention this summer, so get to know Brian now, and sign up to join us this July in Omaha!
Generosity must be taught. This was the key theme of my conversation with Brian Kluth. Brian is the Generosity mobilizer and he comes with 40+ years of experience helping people be better givers. It's not surprising that Brian is such a leader - a true servant leader. All of his efforts these days are to help other people have a better experience here on Earth and even someday after their time here is done. He made me think a lot about radical generosity. He'll make you think, “What am I doing with what I have to make someone else's world better?” It's a healthy challenge. Get ready to feel a deep sense of purpose.

He was a pastor himself for 10 years and is now the national spokesman for the annual Bless Your Pastor initiative, which is organized by the National Association of Evangelicals. Tell us about the three-step program for blessing pastors and church staff. The three steps are:1. Download free materials for your church and share them with church leaders, including a flier titled "50 Ways to Bless Your Pastor and Church Staff.2. Take up an appreciation offering. 3. Publicly honor the pastor and staff.Completing these steps allows pastors to receive a marriage retreat scholarship to a Weekend to Remember and access other free and discounted retreat and vacation opportunities. Over 3,000 churches have already participated in this program. What are some examples from the "50 Ways to Bless Your Pastor" resource? The resource provides ideas on how to pray for your pastor, affirm your pastor, encourage them, and offer practical assistance. Examples include offering dental care, car repairs, lawn care, and other practical acts of service. The goal is to show deep appreciation for those who minister in the church, as encouraged by 1 Thessalonians 5:12. How does collecting an appreciation offering work (Step 2)?Leaders inform the congregation that they will collect an appreciation offering for the pastor and church staff. This offering is a gift to help pastors and staff, many of whom may have limited financial resources. It can make a significant difference in their lives, especially during times like Christmas. Give an example of what celebrating (Step 3) looks like.Celebrating can involve various forms of recognition or appreciation, such as public prayers, appreciation meals, or handwritten notes. The key is to honor pastors and church staff publicly to show appreciation for their service. All materials and information can be found at blessyourpastor.org, available in both English and Spanish. On today's MinistryWatch Extra episode, I'm welcoming back to the program a man who is fueling a movement of generosity in this country, Brian Kluth. Brian has been called “America's Giving Guy” because of his work to help Christians become more generous. But he is a man of many parts, you might say. He was in my hometown of Charlotte recently as part of his nationwide “Bless Your Pastor” tour, and over dinner we started talking about some of the unfortunate scandals we have been covering here at MinistryWatch. During that conversation, I was impressed by some of the things Brian had to say about money, sex, and power – especially in the Christian context. And I said, “Brian, we've got to talk about this on the podcast.” He agreed, and here we are. Before we begin, a quick biographical note about Brian Kluth. Brian's books and devotionals on generous giving have sold more than a million copies and have been translated into more than 40 languages. They are used in more than 100 countries. For the past four years, Brian has been working specifically to get the church to be more generous with its pastor, and he has been spearheading a movement called “Bless Your Pastor” that hopes to reduce pastor burnout, increase job satisfaction on the part of pastors, and create healthy pastors and their families, as well as healthy churches. I would like to remind you that there's a quick and easy and free way to support the program, and that's to rate us on your podcast app. The more ratings we have, the easier it is for others to find us. You can also leave a comment when you give us a rating. I can't respond via the app, but please know that I read all the comments and I find them encouraging and helpful. As always, we encourage you to support your local church first, your favorite and well-researched Christian ministries second, and MinistryWatch third. If you do decide you'd like to support us financially, I want to share with you a very special offer we have going this month. For a gift of ANY SIZE, we will send you a one-year subscription to WORLD Magazine as our thank you. That's a digital and print subscription. If you went to WORLD's website, this would cost you more than $100, but if you go to our website, you can set the price. Now, of course, we hope you'll be generous, but there is no minimum gift size. And if you are already a subscriber to WORLD, this is a great way to give a gift to a family member, your pastor, or a friend. Just go to MinistryWatch.com and hit the DONATE button at the top of the page. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Steve Gandy. We get database and other technical support from Cathy Goddard, Stephen DuBarry, and Casey Sudduth. Until next time, may God bless you.

On today's MinistryWatch Extra episode, I talk with a man who is fueling a movement of generosity in this country, Brian Kluth. Brian has been called “America's Giving Guy” because of his work to help Christians become more generous. As you will hear him say later in the program, people aren't born generous, and even when they are born again, that doesn't automatically make them generous. Generosity is learned. Generosity grows as we grow as a Christian. Brian Kluth's books and devotionals on generous giving have sold more than a million copies and have been translated into more than 40 languages and used in more than 100 countries. You can learn more about the National Association of Evangelicals' Bless Your Pastor program by going to BlessYourPastor.org.
