From old episodes of Perry Mason on AMI to the 2011 Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate on CBC to Love On the Spectrum on Netflix. Our latest guest has described it all. This week on Outlook we speak with Ruth Barrett, who attended the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art, who started out as a performer, in the theatre, as a voiceover artist, but she eventually found her way into the world of doing closed captioning work first and then audio description. She loves English and history and her curiosity, all helpful interests and qualities for a describer to have. We speak with Ruth about how her previous skill set was applied to becoming an audio describer and writer, for Accessible Media Inc. and other networks, which led to her doing this work for live performances at the Stratford Festival which began offering selected audio described shows around 2012. Ruth loves to speak with users of her live theatre audio description and shares how she likes meeting with them after the show and receiving their feedback. With terms like forced naming, Barrett tells us what she's learned about best practices over her years doing this work and how she's loved getting to do more work collaboratively on a team along with the others over at Descriptive Video Works based in BC, but virtual has allowed people, like Ruth who live all the way back over in Stratford, Ontario to be on that team. Our guest this week explains how she works diligently to provide the best possible audio description experience for the users of the service that she can.

As promised, this is the Open-Heart Meditation! It is a fabulous way to start your day. An open-heart connection is necessary when discerning Truth and when connecting to your own higher self, others, and the various realms of Spirit. You may want to return to this one again and again. May all beings have continually open hearts - that's what I say! Little known fact about me: My middle name is LaVonne. When I was really young, I used to think it was Love On (!), like my own personal directive or life goal. I do try to live up to my name. And speaking of my name: No, I did not make it up; it really is Constance (Love On) Messmer. And I've had a few of my one-on-one clients call me Constantly Mesmerizing - which cracks me up. I'm just the conduit. But- let's all be conduits of love, shall we?! Thanks for TUNING IN! xxxx

This week we have another special episode! We talk "Love On the Brain" by Rihanna, from her album ANTI, and we had Stephanie come back to talk all about narcissistic personality disorder(NPD) and how it can affect relationships. TRIGGER WARNING: We talk about NPD, borderline personality disorder (BPD), codependency, abuse - both physical and mental/emotional, and things of that sort.  Just listening to Rihanna's lyrics we can assume she is singing about someone with NPD, and also that she has codependency issues, which can be a trait of an individual with BPD. Someone with NPD being in a relationship with someone with BPD can become a toxic cycle of craving praise and "love", to feeling empty and neglected and then putting each other down physically or emotionally. There's SO much to it, but it's really unhealthy and definitely requires therapy, although narcissism doesn't really have a cure.  Shoutout to Stephanie for coming through with great information and for being an amazing guest! We can't stress enough how anyone can fall victim to an unhealthy relationship or being charmed into a relationship with someone with narcissism. That's why we want to have these conversations and try to be open, so that we can at least be knowledgeable and know how to spot the signs and how to be there for someone in that situation.  Follow on IG: @wild7studios @thewild7podcast @mister_reds_gruesome_stories Twitter: @simpinafterdark Go like our "Simpin After Dark" playlist on Spotify ! There has been much ink spilled over the Queen of Disco that it doesn't bare repeating. Donna Summer is an icon who laid down the path for future artists like Madonna, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and many others to use their sexuality and create their own brand on their own terms. Regardless of the much-hyped manipulations behind the scenes, she was a willing participant and took full advantage of her success up until the point she wrestled herself away from Neil Bogart's Casablanca records leaving a legacy that up until that point — no other female artist had achieved. Today, Donna Summer has a legion of fans both young and old and serves as an inspiration to many would-be female artists who whether they realize it or not — are deeply indebted to her trailblazing career. The Queen is no stranger to Party Favorz, who ranks her at the top of our leading ladies along with Diana Ross and Cher. This tribute set focuses on her work in the 90's through the early millennium and takes a deep dive into updated versions of her back catalog. If many of these tracks are unfamiliar to you or your era was the 70's — look no further than the Casablanca Years set I put out in 2015. There you will find all of her radio and club hits in probably one of the best tribute sets ever laid down honoring the Queen. [youtube v="sLFVMOSdHRQ"] When the word "Ultimate" is dropped into the title of one of these series — it's because it's comprehensive and really long. Leaving no stone unturned, I poured through countless bootlegs and official remixes to put this thing together. Many of the songs on here may be new to even her most ardent supporters. These past couple of Diva Series I've put out have been a bitch to mix and this one was no exception. There's a vast array of styles here from modern-day electro-pop to circuit tribal house and straight up funky house. Yet, it all feels cohesive and frankly — just works. Next up in my Masters Series is a mixset of music by grammy award winning producer/remixer Hex Hector. From the time I started DJing in 2000 right through until around 2010 there wasn't a remix by Hex Hector that I didn't purchase and play - many times I wouldn't even have to listen to it in the record store before I purchased it. Hex, along with his engineer and producing partner Mac Quayle put out an astounding number of quality dance tracks in that period so trying to fit all of my favorite ones here was impossible, but everyone that I have chosen, if you frequently nightclubs back into the 1990's and 2000's, you will remember having danced to on numerous dance floors - and all would garner huge gleeful responses from the dance for when the listener would realize what song was being mixed in. Here is my tribute to Hex Hector. ***PLAYLIST: 1. If You Could Read My Mind - Stars On 45 (Hex Hector Epic Piano Mix) 2. Things Just Ain’t The Same - Deborah Cox (Hex Hector’s Club Mix) 3. Despite what I may have declared about the state of dance music in my last post, 2017 was not without some fantastic gems. Many of the songs fall into the electronic dance music category but aren't really dance, rather sweet concoctions that have been remixed to give the originals an added boost and extend their playability. Excellent examples are Dua Lipa's "Be the One," Rihanna's "Love On the Brain," Flume and Tove Lo's masterful "Say It," and a personal favorite "Issues" by Julia Michaels to name a few. The original versions (and many others included in these three sets) of these songs stood strong by themselves but the remixes that accompanied them removed the tone of the original production and gave them an entirely new feeling. In these instances, it's the DJ's featured in this series that are equal stars to the artists themselves. 2017 had several noteworthy new artists and time will tell if they're one-trick pony's or are truly worthy of their current stature of new-found fame. Leading the pack and certainly the most promising is Dua Lipa who came out of seemingly nowhere after being plucked by Warner Brothers from semi-YouTube fame. She has the full package with the looks, the vocals and, the lyrics to back it all up. She's got "IT," and a string of hit singles to back IT up. Another promising artist that I'll lay my cards down on is Julia Michaels. While not as massively successful as Miss Lipa, Julia put out one of my favorite songs this year with "Issues." She also has the full package (a quality severely lacking in many of her contemporaries) and could very well be a slow-burn to the top giving a certain Miss Goulding a run for the money if she doesn't drop some new material in 2018 [clears throat]. Both Niall Horan ("This Town," "Slow Hands") and Camila Cabello ("Crying in the Club," "Havana") proved there is life outside of their respective multi-platinum bands and should have pretty strong staying power. However, it's newcomer's Cardi B. ("Bodak Yellow") and Luis Fonsi ("Despacito") whose first singles were so massive that living up to their success much less maintaining it will prove difficult to overcome. I'm not counting them out, rather routing for their continued success but only time will tell. Speaking of cheering on an artist; Party Favorz wants to give a shout-out to Kesha who with the release of her first album ("Rainbow") apart from Dr. Luke has proven several things: 1) She can sing 2) She can write 3) The "Woman" has a great deal of talent beyond spoiled-brat anthems. Just don't touch her fucking weed. Congratulations on your Grammy nominations for Best Pop Solo Album and Best Pop Solo Performance! "Woman" is sitting at number two on Billboards Dance Club Chart as I write this and will likely finish the year atop that chart. The song has also been included as one of the year's best. There is so much to cover in dance music for 2017 but I can't lay it all down lest you folks get bored. I'll have my final thoughts and part three of the Year in Dance 2017 out on Friday. Despite any prior skepticism about the dance music landscape this year, it brought to the forefront an array of musical masterpieces. Many songs, predominantly from the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) genre, were beautifully transformed by remixes that elevated their original's charm, expanding their reach and longevity in the dance music arena. Standout examples include Dua Lipa's "Be the One," Rihanna's "Love On the Brain," and the superb collaboration of Flume and Tove Lo's "Say It," alongside a personal favorite, "Issues" by Julia Michaels. 2017 introduced us to a wave of promising new artists contributing to the Top Dance Songs of 2017, their longevity and impact yet to be fully assessed. At the forefront was Dua Lipa, who soared to stardom backed by Warner Brothers, becoming an absolute sensation with her stunning looks, captivating vocals, and compelling lyrics. Similarly, Julia Michaels showed immense promise, especially with her standout track "Issues," potentially giving the likes of Ellie Goulding serious competition in the future. Other artists who proved their mettle outside their multi-platinum bands were Niall Horan, with hits like "This Town," "Slow Hands" and Camila Cabello, with tracks "Crying in the Club," "Havana". However, for debut artists like Cardi B. ("Bodak Yellow") and Luis Fonsi ("Despacito"), whose first singles were chartbusters, maintaining that level of success could prove challenging. We also extend our hearty applause to Kesha, who with the release of her album "Rainbow", apart from Dr. Luke, demonstrated her raw talent and versatility as an artist. Her Grammy nominations for Best Pop Solo Album and Best Pop Solo Performance are well-deserved. There's so much to cover when discussing the Top Dance Songs of 2017, but to avoid overloading you with information, we'll reserve more insights for our next installment. “Line ‘em up, shoot ‘em down. There’s a party going on in Jagertown” - are the opening lyrics of “Jagertown,” self-titled first album and the title track released nearly ten years ago. This lyric had become synonymous with the band as their popularity grew across the West. With the release of their second album, "Love On the Radio" they found their fan base rapidly growing and extending from California to South Dakota driven by amazing country festivals. Jagertown’s high-energy show, well-crafted originals, and a sound that the country scene hasn’t had in a decade delivers on the promise that there will be a party going on with Jagertown’s on stage. The release of “Sleepin’ with My Boots On,” the band's third album, elevating them to key support positions at many festivals and headlining special events around the country. Now with the release of “Small Town Superstars,” their fourth studio effort, Jagertown’s fans, the “Jager Nation,” continue to grow.  Supporting their success and their latest charting single, “She Won’t Be Lonely,” Jagertown has expanded their “That’s Why I Drink” tour to include venues and festivals from Coast to Coast. http://www.jagertown.com/

The partnership between these two icons was nothing short of transformative for the dance music scene. Often released under the label HQ2, their collaborations brought a unique fusion of sounds that were as emotionally resonant as they were irresistibly danceable. What set the Hex Hector and Mac Quayle partnership apart was a shared vision for reimagining the emotional core of a song. Take, for instance, Madonna's "Music." The original version was already an anthem in its own right, but under the deft hands of HQ2, it morphed into something extraordinary—keeping the dance floor packed while adding another layer of interpretative depth to the already iconic track. Similarly, their take on Donna Summer's "Love On & On" pays homage to the Queen of Disco's enduring legacy. Hex and Mac captured the eternal vibrance of Summer's vocals while infusing the track with contemporary electronic elements. It was a testament to the duo's ability to honor the original artist's intent while incorporating a fresh, uplifting vibe, which explains why their remixes often stood the test of time. Mac Quayle's prowess isn't limited to dance anthems; he's expanded his talents into scoring TV shows and movies. Emmy-award-winning projects like "Mr. Robot" bear testament to his range and ability to set the mood through music. His success in Hollywood doesn't diminish his legacy in dance music; rather, it enriches it, showing how versatile and multitalented he is as a musician. One more exceptional tune in this Hex Hector tribute mix is Angie Stone's "Wish I Didn't Miss You." Though many of their collaborations foresaked the HQ2 moniker in favor of their names, this track exemplifies the same kind of emotional storytelling through music that Hector and Quayle championed. It serves as a powerful reminder that whether alone or as part of a dynamic duo, Hex Hector's influence looms large in the world of dance music. So, as we continue to relish in the Hex Hector Tribute Mix, let's also give a nod to the incredible artists and collaborators like Mac Quayle who have made this journey through the world of remixes so enthralling. Not unlike Michael Jackson, Donna Summer reached the upper-echelon of her career and then was quickly struck down by controversy.  While each instance is significantly different with respect to the issue surrounding the heap of shit they found themselves in, they both showcase how ultimate fame can be quickly supplanted by ruination. I'm not here to pass judgment on what she may or may have not said; rather focus on her career that had this gay boy dancing around his room night after night. Donna Summer has worn the title of “Queen of Disco” for most of her career and rightfully so. With a slew of hits that topped the Disco charts and many more #1 and top tens on the pop charts, no single person has defined an era more than Donna Summer. After the aforementioned “controversy” in the late eighties, her career was on a downward trajectory.  She focused her efforts by spreading her voice to other genres and other forms of music during the next couple of decades. While she never reached the kind of peak she enjoyed in the late 70s and early 80s, she managed to rack up another 11 club hits that topped Billboard's Club Play Chart.  No doubt, the love the gay community still had for her helped fuel this continued success. Since her earliest work has been subject to countless compilations, I decided it fitting to focus this set on the latter half of her career with a couple of earlier bootlegged classics courtesy of Eddie Baez and DJ Meme. Words cannot express the significance she played not only in my life but countless others.  From the kid that used to mow lawns to get enough money to buy your records, thank you for the music. You are sorely missed. This is a re-boot of the original Donna Summer Tribute I put out last year and includes two new songs.
