Genève Internationale : Retour sur la remise des Prix Nansen du HCR 2024 La remise des Prix Nansen du HCR s'est récemment tenue à Genève, honorant cinq lauréates pour leur engagement exceptionnel en faveur des personnes déplacées et réfugiées à travers le monde. Ces prix prestigieux, décernés par le Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR), mettent en lumière des personnalités dont les actions transforment des vies et redonnent espoir. La lauréate mondiale 2024, Sœur Rosita Milesi, est une religieuse brésilienne, avocate et travailleuse sociale. Avec près de 40 ans de dévouement, elle défend inlassablement les droits et la dignité des personnes en mouvement au Brésil. En parallèle, quatre autres lauréates ont été récompensées dans les régions suivantes : Jin Davod (Europe), une entrepreneure sociale syrienne basée en Turquie, qui a fondé une plateforme en ligne permettant à des milliers de survivants de traumatismes d'accéder gratuitement à un soutien en santé mentale. Nada Fadol (Moyen-Orient et Afrique du Nord), une réfugiée soudanaise vivant en Égypte, qui a organisé une aide essentielle pour des centaines de familles réfugiées. Deepti Gurung (Asie-Pacifique), qui a fait campagne pour réformer les lois népalaises sur la citoyenneté, permettant ainsi à ses filles et à des milliers d'autres enfants d'acquérir la nationalité. Maimouna Ba (Afrique), notre invitée spéciale pour ce numéro, est surnommée la "Maman Sahélienne". Fondatrice de l'association Femmes pour la dignité du Sahel, elle œuvre au Burkina Faso pour offrir éducation et espoir aux enfants déplacés et pour soutenir les femmes à travers des initiatives génératrices de revenus. Son programme phare, Un Enfant, Un Parrain, a déjà permis à plus de 120 enfants de retrouver le chemin de l'école, tout en soutenant des centaines de femmes vulnérables. Avec son engagement sans faille, Maimouna Ba incarne un modèle de leadership féminin dans une région durement frappée par la violence et l'instabilité, faisant de la solidarité une arme contre l'adversité.

Au Sénégal, on croule sous les mangues. Mais des tonnes de fruits sont perdues chaque année, faute de transformation locale, faute de moyens et d'infrastructures suffisantes. Un important projet d'agropole pourrait apporter un début de solution. De notre envoyée spéciale de retour de Ziguinchor,Dans l'unité de transformation de Siranding Touty Sané, à côté de Ziguinchor, la saison de la mangue touche à sa fin. Sur une table, du thiakry, une farine de mil parfumé à la mangue est en train de sécher. Ici, la mangue prend une dizaine de formes différentes. « On a la confiture, le nectar, la mangue séchée, la moutarde de mangue. On fait aussi du ketchup... », énumère Siranding. La Casamance croule sous les mangues et représente plus de la moitié de la production nationale. Mais chaque année, des tonnes de fruits pourrissent par terre. « Ce n'est pas le savoir qui manque. Il y a pas mal de femmes qui sont formées pour la transformation. Mais l'espace manque aussi beaucoup envers les femmes pour avoir des unités de référence. Les quelques unités qui existent n'ont pas assez d'équipement, parce qu'ils sont lourds et coûteux. » Le séchoir que Siranding utilise pour ses mangues est ancien et ne lui permet d'en transformer que 15 kilos par jour.Une perte massive de production À Bignona, le Groupement d'intérêt économique (GIE) Casaécologie de Maimouna Sambou créé en 2001 rencontre des difficultés similaires. Son produit phare : la pulpe de mangue. Cette année, un client lui en avait demandé 50 tonnes. Mais elle a dû refuser, faute de capacités de stockage suffisantes. « Mes sept congélateurs ont une contenance d'environ trois tonnes. Je suis capable de produire cinquante tonnes de plus annuellement. Pour pouvoir faire cela, il faudrait des chambres froides ou d'autres congélateurs », assure Maimouna.À lire aussiLes notes WhatsApp révolutionnent l'agriculture au SénégalLes transformatrices ont également des soucis pour écouler leurs marchandises dans une région enclavée, mais aussi pour trouver des emballages de qualité ou pour accéder aux financements. « Le taux d'intérêt est cher. Deuxièmement, quand vous déposez une demande de prêt, ça traîne. On vous accorde ça au moment où les produits sont finis », déplore Siranding Touty Sané. Tout comme Maimouna, elles dépendent encore beaucoup de partenaires étrangers. Le lancement de cinq agropoles dans le pays pourrait apporter des solutions.L'agropole sud pour créer une synergie En Casamance, il y aura plusieurs modules de groupages et une grosse plateforme de transformation industrielle pour les petits producteurs et des industriels. L'objectif : encourager la transformation locale pour créer de la valeur ajoutée et de l'emploi. « C'est vraiment, dans l'agropole, de permettre à ces unités de transformation de ne pas forcément être obligées d'aller se délocaliser dans les zones de transformation, mais qu'ils puissent nouer des relations d'affaires par rapport aux industries ou aux usines, qui vont se localiser au niveau de ces zones de transformation », explique Ousseynou Konaté, coordonnateur de l'agropole sudCinquante-trois milliards de francs CFA ont été investis par l'État pour l'agropole sud, qui devrait être lancé d'ici juin 2024, et devrait profiter à 65 000 ménages.À lire aussiDans la Casamance enclavée, une économie fragilisée

Il était une fois Maimouna, née dans une grande fratrie de dix enfants qui rêvait d'avoir aussi une famille nombreuse tout en vivant un conte de fée. Finalement sa vie va être semée d'embûches mais sans détériorer son amour pour les hommes. Il y a vingt deux ans elle met au monde sa première fille mais se sépare deux ans plus tard et ouvre le premier chapitre de sa vie de maman solo. Pour se reconnecter à sa féminité elle se rapproche d'un cercle de femmes et va avoir la bonne idée d'organiser un dîner entre célibataires où chacune doit venir avec un ami. C'est là qu'elle rencontre son deuxième prince, avec qui elle a une deuxième fille mais deux ans plus tard, rebelote, leur relation prend fin. Maimouna opened up on her experience as she faced several episodes of discrimination by peers and teachers when she was a child. These difficult moments prompted her to become a teacher and she shared with us the importance to bring more representation into the educational sector. This episode is part of a project in collaboration with Soul of Nations.

Marc talks to one of his favorite artists and friends singer/rapper/songwriter Maimouna Youssef.

  Maimouna “Mumu Fresh” Youssef is a seasoned Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, producer, and emcee. She received a Grammy nomination for her contribution on the 2007 Roots hit, “Don’t Feel Right”, in the category of best rap song. She has swapped musical licks with artists such as Angelique Kidjo, Common, Nas, Dead Prez, Wilco, Zap Mama, Cody Chesnutt, Martin Luther, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Mos Def, and Talib Kweli to name a few. As a collaborator and band member, Maimouna has rocked the stages of many renowned venues such as Denver Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival, New York City’s Legendary Carnegie Hall, and Radio City Music Hall. Youssef’s musical endeavors with Grammy Award winning producer James Poyser were a springboard for her to make her big screen debut in Dave Chappelle’s hip hop documentary “Block Party.”After the birth of her son, she took a short hiatus from the music business. She released her 1st solo EP Black Magic Woman on March 1, 2011, which led her to headline 2 of Washington DC’s most prestigious venues, The Kennedy Center and The Carter Barron Amphitheater. In Sept 2011, she released her 1st full-length album "The Blooming," which received The Washington Post’s and The Washington City Paper’s votes for “Top 5 best albums released in 2011.” Later that year, she teamed up with her long-time friend Brian Kyle Atkins, who was one of Okay Player’s pioneering forces, and the personal videographer to rapper Common. Together they created the very first visual for her leading single, “I Got A Man” produced by the Hip Hop icon, Dj Jazzy Jeff. In Nov 2011, Mumu was awarded the title of “Artist of The Year”, by the non-profit organization One Common Unity for her dedication and commitment to empowering underserved youth.

Some of her other theatrical experiences include the original trio showcase “Three Generationz” that consisted of Maimouna Youssef, her mother, Nataska Hummingbird, and her grandmother, Mountain Eagle Woman (now deceased). At 16 Mumu formed a jazz/hip-hop/funk/ band with her cousin Omari “AzIz” Forman-Bey known as Cirius B. Maimouna Youssef won the title of “Baltimore's Idol.” Cirius B's unique sound found it's way to producer James Poyser. The Roots recognized Maimouna's raw talent and asked her to sing lead vocals. Shortly thereafter, Maimouna was packing her bags to join the Roots world tour.
