Send us a Text Message. The band Rehab originated in Warner Robins, GA, in the 1970s, with Danny Boone Alexander's musical upbringing playing a pivotal role. Influenced by the music his family played, including Johnny Paycheck's “Take This Job and Shove It,” and memorable experiences like listening to “Sky Rockets in Flight” at the Crazy 8 Race Track during the Bicentennial, Danny's passion for music was evident from a young age. Initially drawn to rock and southern rock, his musical tastes broadened with the emergence of the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and NWA, cementing his love for hip hop. Danny's first rap performance was at 15 during a high school pep rally, igniting his pursuit of a music career. In his late teens, Danny began working professionally with his friend Denny “Steaknife” Campbell under the name "Prime Suspect." The duo's collaboration led to the formation of Rehab after meeting Jason Brooks. Despite Steaknife's legal troubles, Danny and Jason signed with Epic Records, releasing “Southern Discomfort” in 2000. The album featured contributions from Goodie Mob's Cee-Lo and Big Gipp, as well as Cody Chesnutt, selling over 140,000 copies and reaching the top 15 of the Modern Rock charts with “It Don't Matter.” They toured nationally, sharing stages with Linkin Park and the Kottonmouth Kings during the Vans Warped Tour.Following creative differences, Danny and Brooks parted ways, and Rehab was revitalized in 2005. The band recorded “Graffiti the World” with notable contributors like Bonecrusher, Phil Tan, and Billy Hume. The album was initially released independently until Danny signed with Universal Records in 2008. A collaboration with Hank Williams Jr. on “Sittin' at a Bar” garnered a CMT nomination for Wide-Open Country Video of the Year in 2009. Rolling Stone featured Rehab's renamed single, “The Bartender Song,” on its "Hot List." The track has achieved platinum status six timeswww.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. N8NOFACE is one of the most energetic forces to emerge from the Southwest experimental underground. Originally known as part of the chiptune duo Crimekills, Nate's since hit a streak of releases that blend synth pop, punk, and darkwave, equally indebted to groups like Screamers, Suicide, Ween, and Sleaford Mods. For this episode of WASTOIDS WITH, we linked up with Nate learn how he tells the stories of the outlaws he grew up with in the desert on his new album Homicide, getting sober, cyberpunk, and the influence of cult R&B artist Cody ChesnuTT's The Headphone Masterpiece—which turns 20 this year. We recorded this talk at the secret room at Valley Bar. Big thanks to the crew there for accommodating us. Wanna share your thoughts on N8NOFACE, cyberpunk, or Blood Meridian? All you have to do is call 1-877-WASTOIDS to get in touch.

For @EchoChamberFP https://www.instagram.com/echochamberfp/ this week, we went and gave you another 'TWO Parter'!!! In 'Part One' we take a look at the film sequel to 2019's 'Wu Assassins', and then a musical adaptation! 'Wu Assassins: Fistful Of Vengeance' is directed by Roel Reiné and written by Cameron Litvack, Jessica Chou & Yalun Tu. Kai Jin (Iko Uwais), a young Chinatown chef in present day San Francisco, becomes entangled with the Chinese Triad's pursuit of deadly ancient powers known as the "Wu Xing. 'Cyrano' is directed by Joe Wright and Erica Schmidt adapts her 2018 musical of the same name. It's a re-imagining the timeless tale of a heartbreaking love triangle. A man ahead of his time, Cyrano de Bergerac (Peter Dinklage) dazzles whether with ferocious wordplay at a verbal joust or with brilliant swordplay in a duel. But, convinced that his appearance renders him unworthy of the love of a devoted friend, the luminous Roxanne (Haley Bennett), Cyrano has yet to declare his feelings for her — and Roxanne has fallen in love, at first sight, with Christian (Kelvin Harrison, Jr). Today, we're sitting down with singer-songwriter Omar Apollo. Omar grew up on a musical diet of his parents' favourite musicians like Pedro Infante, Los Panchos and The Beatles. The 23-year-old began playing guitar himself aged 12, whilst singing in his local church choir and dancing ballet folkorico. Once his lustful, multi-octave pop songs left his bedroom for the internet, he started racking up millions of streams. His first album, Apolonio, came out in 2020. Omar's Unsung choice is American R&B, neo-soul musician Cody Chesnutt.Cody's 2002 album, The Headphone Masterpiece, was recorded on a 4-track cassette recorder in his bedroom recording studio. The record was met with critical acclaim for its compelling, imaginative take on alternative R&B. Despite a brush with stardom, Cody has never found mainstream success and has always maintained the status of an elusive, underground artist. Fitting then, that Pixar tapped him to write and perform as a show-stealing subway busker in their blockbuster 2020 movie Soul.Omar speaks with Tara Joshi. Unsung is produced by Eliza Lomas and mixed by Becky Street with theme music from Facta. The series leads are Luke Sutton and Duncan Harrison."She's Still Here" by Cody Chestnutt"5 On A Joyride" by Cody Chestnutt"She's Still Here" by Cody Chestnutt"Ugotme" by Omar Apollo"Trouble" Omar Apollo"Magic In A Mortal Minute" by Cody Chestnutt"The Seed" by Cody Chestnutt"Beauty Boy" by Omar Apollo"Look Good In Leather" by Cody Chestnutt Hosted on Acast. Famed producer, musician, and arranger Willie Mitchell became involved with Royal Studios (and the associated Hi Records) in Memphis, Tennessee, in the early ‘60s. He took more control of the studio operations as time went on and, in the early ‘70s, his collaboration with singer Al Green led to millions of albums sold, all of which cemented Willie’s reputation as a producer of note. These days his son, Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell, a musician, songwriter, engineer, and producer in his own right, runs Royal Studios and co-owns Royal Records. He keeps the legacy alive, while also looking to the future. Boo’s produced and/or engineered a wide range of acts including Melissa Etheridge, Solomon Burke, Al Green, Cody Chesnutt, Rod Stewart, John Mayer, Snoop Dogg, Bobby Rush, William Bell, Keb Mo, Terrence Howard, and Boz Scaggs. I met up with Boo one evening at Royal Studios (currently celebrating their 60th year) in the back control room to discuss his life in the studio. Enjoy! Today we speak to broadcaster, pundit and comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli about finding love in the modern age. Roy Davis grew up in Chicago, he co-wrote the single "Gabriel" with singer-songwriter Peven Everett, it garnered massive international airplay and is one of my all time favourite tracks. It peaked at #22 in the UK Singles Chart in 1997. The Seed has it all, rock, hip-hop and psychedelic soul. The second single by The Roots from their album Phrenology. The track, which features Cody Chesnutt on guitar and vocals. From the album the gave us the monster hit "Get Lucky", Random Access from French tech hipsters Daft Punk, Motherboard is an elaborate journey wrapped up in an instrumental piece. Universally hailed as a thrilling new figure in music for his edgy, lo-fi debut, The Headphone Masterpiece, back in 2002,Cody ChesnuTT is a soul troubadour whose frank, socially conscious ruminations on life continue to challenge popular notions of what modern soul music can look and sound like. The Atlanta native has always stood his own creative ground, ever since he first holed himself up in his bedroom to record The Headphone Masterpiece. Cody sang "To Be Young, Gifted and Black" on Meshell Ndegeocello's album Pour Une Âme Souveraine (or "For a Sovereign Soul"). Check it out on Sound Cloud: http://www.soundcloud.com/okayplayer/meshell-ndegeocello-to-be Landing On A Hundred, Cody’s second full-length LP, marks his return to the music game after a period of family-man retreat and reflection that did a world of good for him after his meteoric rise to near fame. The title is a reference to the slang saying, “Keeping It One Hundred,” or telling the whole truth, and for lovers of true blue Southern soul this new album is a must-have. http://www.cchesnutt.com That's Still Mama video:http://youtu.be/lYvRP4kxzJA Love Is More Than a Wedding Day video: http://youtu.be/9MDOZKKYgD0

In this episode I will look at the combination of Hip Hop and R&B in current music. We will hear some new music from Cody Chesnutt and Frank Ocean. Both of these musicians stradle the line between hip hop and R&B and I will share songs that have both elelments in the same song. The mix of these styles in one song can sometimes be very powerful. We'll also hear a John Legend song that shows some influence from Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Buckley. A strange combination you say? We'll, have a listen and see (hear) what you think.

Meshell Nedegeocello's (Mee-shell N-deh-gay-o-chel-o.) records, nine to date, have offered lyrical ruminations on race, love, sex, betrayal, God, and power. She has been nominated for 10 Grammys. Meshell was the first woman to be featured on the cover of Bass Player magazine. Her music has been featured in a number of film soundtracks including How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Lost & Delirious, Batman & Robin, Love Jones, Love & Basketball, Talk To Me, Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls,The Best Man, Higher Learning, Down in the Delta, The Hurricane, and Soul Men. Meshell Ndegeocello's new album Pour une âme Souveraine (For a Sovereign Soul), A Dedication to Nina Simone comes out on October 9th. After only ten days in the studios of guitarist Pete Min, this album was born, reflecting Meshell's admiration for the pioneering work of an artist who refused to be owned by genre, industry, or expectation. Guests on the album include Sinead O'Connor, Lizz Wright, Valerie June, Tracy Wannomae, Toshi Reagon and Cody ChesnuTT. Meshell turns over singing duties to soul singer Cody ChestnuTT in this pared down cover of Nina Simone's "Young, Gifted and Black."
