The ABMP Podcast | Speaking With the Massage & Bodywork Profession
A school administrator and massage therapist wants guidance on how to respond to a student who is reluctant to work with clinic clients who report a history of herpes. Is this a significant risk for massage therapists? The reality is that anyone with a history of herpes simplex can shed the virus intermittently, even without visible symptoms. However, the risk to massage therapists who follow proper hygiene and self-care protocols is extremely low. In that sense, herpes falls into the same category as other infections that may be transmitted through direct contact but are effectively managed with consistent hygienic practices. The key issue is not the client's infection status; it is the therapist's adherence to appropriate hygiene protocols. Resources: Ang, J.Y. et al. If you're a licensed health professional in British Columbia, this episode breaks down why the upcoming shift from the Health Professions Act to the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) could significantly impact how you practice, what you can say, and even whether you can keep your license. Kendra walks through the key provisions raising concern for practitioners, including government-appointed regulatory boards, expanded enforcement powers, and the potential consequences for non-compliance. Beyond explaining what's changing, this conversation explores the bigger question many practitioners are quietly asking: what happens when the rules of your profession change after you've already built your career around them? Kendra shares why more licensed professionals are exploring alternative practice models and what it can look like to build a business outside traditional regulatory structures. This episode is ultimately about awareness, choice, and professional autonomy. Whether you plan to stay within the regulated system or consider a different path, Kendra encourages practitioners to understand what's coming, think critically about their options, and make decisions that align with how they want to practice long-term.What We Cover in This EpisodeWhat the HPOA Actually Changes and Why Practitioners Are Paying Attention (00:50)The Real Risks to Your License, Income, and Professional Autonomy (05:05)Why More Practitioners Are Exploring Online Health Coaching Models (09:30)How to Transition Safely Without Burning Down Your Current Career (12:00)Why Waiting Could Cost You Options (Timing Matters More Than You Think) (15:30) Resources mentioned:Apply for HCA: https://go.kendraperry.net/apply-hca Leave the podcast a 5-star review: https://ratethispodcast.com/wealthyWATCH ON YOUTUBE

Sponsored by EasyDNS https://easydns.com/NotOnRecord Two unusually messy files collide in one episode: a chiropractor accused during a routine treatment of an allegation so strange it practically dares common sense to enter the room, and a long-married couple whose financial dispute spirals into criminal charges and a three-day trial. The hosts walk through how these cases actually get resolved in the real world, why credibility isn't just what's said but how it's said, and how the “paper trail” (texts, timing, behaviour, and courtroom discipline) can decide everything. Along the way: Crown pretrials, judicial pretrials, peace bonds, the professional fallout of being charged, and why sometimes the most powerful defence is simply letting the story collapse under its own weight.
Monique Giannelloni said her interaction with Prince Andrew was the direct result of Ghislaine Maxwell deliberately setting the stage and controlling the circumstances. She explained that Maxwell framed the meeting as something special and prestigious, telling her she would be introduced to someone “famous,” language that softened what was actually a deeply imbalanced situation. When that person turned out to be Prince Andrew, the power disparity became immediately clear. Giannelloni described being young, inexperienced, and placed into a private setting with a member of the British royal family without meaningful context or informed consent. She emphasized that this was not a social encounter or an organic meeting, but a carefully orchestrated introduction where expectations were already implied. The way Andrew was presented to her carried an unspoken assumption of compliance rooted in his status.Giannelloni made clear that Prince Andrew did not appear confused, hesitant, or unaware of the dynamic at play. In her account, he carried himself with entitlement, fully comfortable in a situation arranged for his benefit. She described feeling pressure rather than choice, with Maxwell acting as the facilitator who normalized the encounter and removed her ability to freely decline. Giannelloni's statements undercut later narratives portraying Andrew as an incidental figure or a man caught in misunderstanding. Instead, her account places him squarely within Epstein and Maxwell's system of access, where young women were delivered to powerful men under the guise of privilege and opportunity. What she described was not awkward coincidence but calculated proximity, engineered to serve status and silence.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

What if the aches and pains you've been told are “part of the job” actually aren't?In this episode, I sit down with Lauriann Greene, one of the most respected voices in injury prevention and ergonomics for massage therapists. She's been researching, writing, and teaching on this topic for nearly 30 years and is the author of Save Your Hands!: The Complete Guide to Injury Prevention and Ergonomics for Manual Therapists—a book many massage schools still recommend or require. We unpack some of the most common myths in massage education, including the idea that pain is normal, that good body mechanics alone will keep you safe, and that therapists simply need to push through discomfort. Lauriann shares the research behind injury rates in our profession, explains why injuries are multifactorial, and outlines what actually supports long-term career longevity for hands-on practitioners. We also talk about treatment room ergonomics, gradual workload increases, and how listening to your body is a professional skill—not a weakness. This conversation is grounded in evidence, experience, and deep care for the people doing the work.✨ At the end of the episode, we dive into a special listener Q&A with Lauriann, where she answers real questions from massage therapists about hands-on workload, tools, ergonomics, and practical ways to protect their bodies across a long career. If you want to keep practicing on your terms—and enjoy a full life outside the treatment room—this episode is a must listen.OFFER: Get 20% off the regular price of Save Your Hands! 3rd Edition with THIS LINKCONTACT LAURIANN:EMAIL: info@saveyourhands.comWEBSITE: https://saveyourhands.com

I sat down with two highly experienced breathwork facilitators, Emily Ray Henderson and Simona Dvorackova, to explore what breathwork actually does beneath the hype. We talk about why breath has become so central right now, from nervous system regulation and everyday stress, through to trauma release and altered states of consciousness. We explore how breathwork helps complete unfinished stress responses, why the body holds tension and memory, and how conscious connected breathing can release things without needing to analyse or relive the past. We also get into safety, facilitation quality, and why trust and experience matter so much in deep work. Along the way, we touch on science, spirituality, non dual experiences, modern wellness culture, and where breathwork might be heading next. From simple tools anyone can use, to profound immersive experiences, this is a grounded look at breath as a foundation for healing, presence, and human maturity. A client has a very traumatic experience with their kidney transplant surgery in 2017. Ever since, they have lived with chronic, intractable neck and head pain that doesn't respond to any treatment they've tried so far. Alright my friends—this one's a little different. For Episode 452 of The IMPACT Show, I flip the microphone and let my good friend, business partner and brother in arms, Travis Barnes, take over as host of the podcast. If you don't know Travis, he's the co-founder of IMPACT-X Performance, a fellow Fit-Pro, author, speaker, husband, father, and someone who has been through the fire and has come out even stronger. He's also a man of faith, incredible perseverance, and someone I truly respect. In this week's episode, Travis interviews me on all the BIG NEWS, with the recent announcement of IXP—San Diego. We talk everything from faith, fear, vision, purpose, and what it's like to be building something brand new again with IMPACT-X Performance San Diego. We go deep on what it means to trust God in the uncertainty, why there's beauty in being scared, and how every chapter of growth requires us to let go, step up, and lead with heart. Here's some of what we dive into: The backstory behind IMPACT-X San Diego—what it really is, who it's for, and why it's more than just another gym. The difference between Fitness Quest 10 and this next chapter—and how experience, faith, and team play a huge role. The beauty in the grind and why being scared is often a sign you're exactly where you're supposed to be. What it means to build from a place of abundance, not fear. How faith, recovery, and personal growth are woven into the DNA of Impact X. A heartfelt tribute to my partner Jeff Bristol and my entire team who's supporting me unequivocally. Reflections from my 2001 self (25-years ago) to my 75-year-old future self—and the lessons learned in between. The power of gratitude, faith, and family, and how Melanie's support has been the foundation through every chapter. My friends, ask yourself this week: "Would my younger self say 'thank you' to the person you are today?" If not, what do you need to change—today—to make thatanswer a "yes"? And while you're at it, reach out to someone who's impacted your life. Shoot them a message. Say thank you. Speak life into them. This episode is near and dear to my heart. It's raw. It's real. It's about faith over fear, purpose over comfort, and trusting the process even when you can't see the finish line. I hope it inspires you to chase your calling with courage, gratitude, and a deep trust that there's beauty in every step—even the scary ones. With that being said, BUCKLE-UP. IMPACT-X Performance (San Diego) is about 90-days away and I haven't felt this level of excitement in a long, long time. The allegations surrounding Prince Andrew and the alleged smuggling of massage therapists into Buckingham Palace stem from multiple reports dating back to the early 2000s. One of the most circulated claims came from Monique Giannelloni, a massage therapist who said she was called to Buckingham Palace by Ghislaine Maxwell in 2000 to perform a massage on the Duke of York. According to her account, she was brought in through a side entrance without formal clearance or security vetting — something she and others described as a serious breach of royal protocol. The story suggested that Maxwell used her social access to facilitate the encounter, which many later interpreted as part of a wider pattern of lax boundaries between Prince Andrew, Epstein, and their shared social network.Another account came from massage therapist Emma Gruenbaum, who said she provided legitimate sports therapy sessions to Prince Andrew in 2005 but described the Duke's behavior as “inappropriate,” including requests for nudity, intrusive personal questions, and a generally uncomfortable atmosphere. While none of these reports have led to formal charges, they contributed to the growing public perception of Andrew's entitlement and blurred judgment in his private dealings, particularly in relation to his friendship with Maxwell and EpsteinBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

A client was prescribed oral birth control to help manage symptoms of perimenopause. The medication caused a deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which then caused a pulmonary embolism (PE). Altogether this forms a potentially deadly phenomenon called venous thromboembolism (VTE). She survived, and she's fine. But here's the thing: her PE was just two weeks ago, and she wants to receive deep massage to her neck, back, and shoulders. Yikes, right? Or maybe not? Meet Linda MacDougallLinda got her M.A. in Counseling Psychology because she was seeking answers to family dysfunction. She already had a background of working with the developmentally disabled population since high school. She went on to be an administrator of two group homes for United Cerebral Palsy for over a decade. Following her ex-husband's career, she then moved to Hawaii and became a Federal advocate for the state of Hawaii's families dealing with their population of developmentally disabled. Her work there brought change to the system in the way of studies and a medical review board as well as the state guardians beginning to imitate her way of questioning and challenging the way things had always been done.Today her focus has changed to the older adult population. She is a senior health advocate and massage therapist, a holistic health practitioner, and a management consultant for caregiving situations. As a senior herself, Linda is also an advocate for change in the senior living space. Her background and focus on awareness led to the writing of her book "The SPIRIT Method of Massage for Seniors: Raising the Bar...A Primer for Massage Therapists and Caregivers".Connect with Linda MacDougalllinkedin.com/in/linda-mac-dougall-984820Website: loveyourlongevity.com Email: speakerholistic@gmail.comConnect with Host Terry LohrbeerIf you are a Boomer and feel you would make a great guest please email Terry with your bio and any other info you would like to share at: terry@kickassboomers.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2658545911065461/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/terrylohrbeer/Instagram: kickassboomersTwitter: @kickassboomersWebsite: kickassboomers.comTerry's editing company:Connect to Premiere Podcast Pros for podcast editing:premierepodcastpros@gmail.comLEAVE A REVIEW and join me on my journey to become and stay a Kickass Boomer!Visit http://kickassboomers.com/ to listen to the previous episodes. The ABMP Podcast | Speaking With the Massage & Bodywork Profession
A seasoned massage therapist has just started working at a prestigious facility where client intakes are only conducted on the fly, and nothing is documented. Almost immediately, two clients present with complex situations that could be made substantially worse by thoughtless massage. What to do? In this episode we explore this complex question. I have some thoughts from the massage side of the equation, and I also turned to an industry expert, Sherrie Tennessee, PhD, to help understand this from the point of view of the businesses. I also speculate on what it would be like if I were Queen of the World, but that's a bit beside the point. Many massage therapists are deeply skilled, but increasingly frustrated. Despite their ability to create short-term relief through manual therapy, more and more are recognizing a harsh truth: their clients keep coming back with the same problems. In this conversation, the team unpacks the most common challenges Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) face and why so many are now reaching out for more than just continuing education—they're looking for transformation. The episode explores the limits imposed by licensure, the regulatory barriers to recommending exercise, and the emotional toll of watching clients remain in pain. LMTs are seeking ways to evolve from simply treating symptoms to helping clients resolve root causes and reclaim physical freedom. The ALP curriculum offers them a way forward: combining hands-on skill with coaching, assessment, and exercise prescription to create sustainable, long-term results.By becoming both manual therapists and movement professionals, these practitioners can create more client success, feel greater career satisfaction, and extend their professional longevity. This isn't just about skills—it's about building a business and a life that aligns with their values and truly helps people move freely and live fully.
