This week America on the Road proves yet again that there is more to driving than just getting from Point A to Point B in a thoroughly rational but also thoroughly uninvolving crossover SUV. We experienced this firsthand as we road-tested two exceedingly enjoyable sports cars — the legendary Mazda MX-5 Miata and the almost equally legendary Subaru WRX. The 2024 WRX TR trim that Co-Host Chris Teague tested offers improved performance and handling from its rally-inspired chassis and suspension. It features a Brembo braking system with six-piston front and two-piston rear calipers, larger pads and rotors, and a larger brake master cylinder. Suspension enhancements include stiffer springs, revised damping rates, and a retuned steering rack for better control and response. The TR comes with 19-inch satin gray alloy wheels and Bridgestone Potenza S007 summer tires. Inside, it has Recaro seats with black and gray Ultrasuede, red stitching, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat. With its six-speed manual transmission, the 2024 WRX TR is base-priced at $41,655. How does it compare to Teague's GR Corolla? He'll tell us in his report. Across the country, Host Jack Nerad got the chance to test the 2024 MX-5 Miata Grand Touring trim, which received significant updates enhancing performance and comfort. Powered by a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine delivering 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, the MX-5 Miata retains its classic front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The Sport and Club trims come exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, while the Grand Touring we tested offers either a manual or a six-speed automatic. In addition to Kinematic Posture Control, the Miata now offers a revamped electric power steering system with a new steering rack and software enhancements for smoother steering and better precision. Exterior updates include new LED headlights and taillights and additional color options. Inside, the 2024 Miata features a revised center console, an 8.8-inch infotainment display with added touch functionality, and Mazda's first Alexa integration. But does all this new stuff blunt the winning Miata experience? Nerad will have the answer in this show. In the news this week, Honda has given an in-depth briefing about its upcoming all-new lineup of electric vehicles, and the concepts are startling. We'll give you the details. General Motors has just ditched a major brand name as it does an about-face in its electric vehicle strategy. We'll tell you what brand they are turning their back on and give you our comments. If you are thinking about buying a new car soon, you should be aware that a substantial percentage of buyers are now taking on massive monthly payments when they make a purchase. Will you be one of them? And in the True Crime Files Automotive Edition, there is a new development in the trial of a major figure in the Volkswagen Dieselgate scandal. Is there prison in his future? This week, our special guest is Chevrolet bicyclist safety expert Mike Fry. The new Chevy Traverse has a system that is particularly useful in preventing vehicle-bicycle accidents, and we'll talk with him about that and about bicycle safety. We think you'll enjoy the discussion. So we have a lot of show for you this week. Thanks for joining us, and don't forget to look for new content on our YouTube and Rumble channels. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com

Following the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, the technology and its various capabilities have moved from a science fiction concept in most people's minds to an everyday reality, and the uptake of it will only increase in the months and years to come. Everyone now has access to sophisticated AI models, and that includes cybercriminals. The financial impact of cyberattacks continues to rise, and having a system that can deal with every sort of threat - including those of the AI-driven variety - is imperative. "It's a lifestyle and that's not going to change because we genuinely enjoy it. This has nothing to do with the numbers on the scales, this has nothing to do with the amount of adipose on my body... This makes me feel like me." — Deana "Jump Rope Gal"I've known Deana (AKA Jump Rope Gal) for a few years now. You can find her on YouTube and Instagram. She's been on the podcast before, episode 36 with her "jump rope band" Mel and Kyle. If you dig this episode, you'll likely dig that one too.Today we get into so many topics that all revolve around being the most authentic version of yourself. We discuss why Deana doesn't prefer the term "fitness," identifying unspoken assumptions when making decisions, defining discipline and how it relates to jump rope, things to know as a beginner, and a lot more. "One of the things that I took back to the team was making sure that you're not overtraining your athletes, and developing a rotation to ensure we're developing enough physical fitness training without using a rope." - Carly SimpsonCarly Simpson and Chris Brown are world champion jumpers and hosts of The Rope Wrap podcast. We completely get into the weeds with competitive jump rope culture in this episode, and it's awesome! If you're not a competitive jump rope coach or jumper, you'll still dig it, but know that we bring up a bunch of references here.We get into so many detailed subjects about competitive teams and international organizations, including creating pathways for new jumpers to get involved with the sport, the history of international competition rules and their influence on how athletes participate in the sport, how to structure competitive team training to avoid athlete burnout, and how to progress the sport. We also chat about some lighter things too like favorite performances, choreographing all of the routines in the Disney movie "Jump In!," learning the push up pull through for the first time, training for world championships, and more.If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts? "Technique is something very important that you should focus on from the very beginning. Because when you start with bad technique and your coach is not giving you the right advice, you keep the bad technique and that will have an impact on your muscles, joints, bones, wrists... and you don't want to injure yourself." - Sebastian DeegSebastian Deeg has been jumping for over two decades and was one of the first jumpers I found when I started jumping. As you'll hear about in our chat, I used to re-watch his videos frame by frame, over and over and over. Luke has a wealth of knowledge and I know there will be several unlocks for you during this episode. We talk about so many great subjects, including how to train freestyle at world class level, how to count your own triple under reps correctly, how and why Luke takes notes for all things jump rope, the importance of mental benchmarks on your speed scores, and a whole lot more. This entire episode is jam packed with awesomeness, but my favorite part is when we discuss speed training towards the second half of the episode. Luke trained new youth jumpers to reach a 30 second speed score of 87 in only 9 weeks. That blew my mind, and you absolutely do not want to miss how he achieved that incredible accomplishment. Please enjoy! If you liked the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts? This episode of the podcast is a little bit different than others. A while back I did a random Instagram live and my friend Bav jumped on the live. The intention was just to chit chat, but we went deep and ended up recording an entire podcast episode! Keep in mind that this is a very raw conversation, meaning the audio isn't the sharpest, but everything still comes through. We talk about so many different topics, but the real highlight of our conversation is staying authentic online and avoiding the pitfalls of social media by being very real with yourself. It's all jump rope related, but a little deeper than just that. Please enjoy! If you liked the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts? “Being a good coach is not having a big ego, it's knowing that everybody has something to offer and can teach you something valuable.” - Dave NewmanOn this episode I talk with the owner and founder of Rx Smart Gear, Dave Newman. “I'm experiencing so much joy from this, I want to give other people the same experience I have. Why not inspire as many people with it as I possibly can?” —Geraldo AlkenGeraldo Alken is probably one of the fastest growing jumpers I've seen, and after a brief phone call offline I knew I wanted to have him on the podcast. In addition to jump rope skill, Geraldo has a huge amount of business and marketing knowledge. And that is the focus of this show because I know a lot of jumpers selling either ropes or coaching services who can directly benefit from what he has to say. If you're not into business, don't worry because we still cover a lot of Geraldo's history and mission with jump rope. And if you are a jumper that has a business, get ready because this episode has a lot of tangible action steps you can use. Please enjoy! If you liked the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts? "Anything I can think about creatively, I can do it with a jump rope.” —Lee ReisigIn this episode I talk with jump rope legend Lee Reisig. This was an amazing podcast for me because Lee was one of the first jumpers I looked up to, and I have only increased my respect and admiration over the years for both his technical skills and overall jump rope knowledge. Lee's been jumping for a total of 28 years—11 years in Montana with Rocky Mountain Ropers, 10 years in Idaho with Summerwind Skippers, then the last 7 years has been with Flight Crew Jump Rope. Flight Crew is a performance jump rope team that Lee founded and currently owns. Lee's first introduction to jump rope was a performance by the competitive team Pro-form Airborne. Funny enough, Lee wasn't very interested injmping, but this performance inspired his mom to want to start a team. Lee ultimately got hooked on jumping after he saw his first staff show. Since then, he's become quite a decorated athlete. He's an 8-Time FISAC medalist, he holds 9 Grand National Championships, 3 World Jump Rope Titles, he's a 2-time semi-finalist on America's Got Talent, he ranked 5th place on America's Best Dance Crew season 5, and has 10 years of professional performance experience including Cirque Dreams, Cirque du Soleil, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Theme Parks and Sea World. He's also the inventor of the Jumphabet, which is the main focus of this episode. In short, the Jumphabet is a dictionary, naming system and sequence builder for every jump rope skill that exists. It's absolutely incredible, and I would highly recommend heading over to the show notes at natekg.com because I have PDF's linked there of Lee's original work that you can download. We go deep into jump rope theory on this one, so buckle up and please enjoy my conversation with Lee Reisig. Please enjoy! If you liked the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts? “Jump rope has taught me that if you want to do anything in life, an important factor is to make sure you enjoy it.” —Bobby WilliamsBobby Williams and I have known each other for over year, and had the opportunity to meet and jump when he visited Southern California in June of 2019. Even though we've known each for a while, this was the first time we really sat down and discussed Bobby's story with jump rope. “Jump rope was the first activity I had as a notable creative outlet. Whenever I've been creative in other domains […] or publish my own work, I've always had that model in my mind.” — Billy Wildi Billy Wildi (IG: @BilltWildi, YT: @BillytWildi) is a long-time jumper, from the UK. I've technically known Billy digitally for over 10 years, as we both used to create and post jump rope videos on YouTube when we were first learning our skills. We haven't ever chatted over the phone before, so this was an extra fun conversation, getting to discuss “the old days” with somebody who shared a decent portion of that time with me. We chat about so much in this episode, including the early youtube network of jumpers, changes in training over the years, Billy's favorite skills, frustrations with jump rope, and a bunch more. Two weeks before this episode originally aired, which was mid-June 2019, Mike Fry and I held a jump rope workshop in Los Angeles, California and had a whole bunch of local jumpers come out. It was an absolute blast, and at the end, we decided to test out a new live podcast format. So, in this episode we'll hear from several jumpers. We start with a brief interview with my friend Fausto, and then we transition into a round robin style of Q&A where anyone at the workshop can ask anyone else a question. This episode is shorter than usual, but we still get into some interesting topics about how boxers use jump ropes, what my favorite jump rope skill is, and what it feels like to win a world jump rope championship. Please enjoy! If you liked the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts? "Of course, once I fell in love with it, it became like a game. What new trick can I learn next?" —Declan McCarthy In this episode, I talk with Declan McCarthy, @decmcc10 on instagram. Declan is a truly amazing guy, and this was actually the first time we've spoken live. We get into a lot of different topics, including the evolution of Dec's training style, the major we both started with at university, and his journey with OCD. OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) is a multi-faceted condition, and Dec does a phenomenal job unpacking the different elements and explaining what it's like to live with OCD. During my conversation with Chris, we cover a lot of ground, diving into his preferred workout method, an old hobby that we actually both share, and Chris' biggest life challenge—Autism. Chris was very kind in sharing his experience with autism openly, and brought up several really important perspective shifts. “If there's ever a high to chase, it's the high that I get every time I am finished working out.” — Sonny SmithSonny Smith (IG: @the_unconventional_ropestress) describes herself as a ‘Jump Rope Enthusiast,' but she is far more than that. Not only does she have a variety of unique training tools and methods (the steel mace is my favorite), but she also discusses Mental Health and her own journey. She focuses on the positive impacts jump rope has on the mind, both from a biological and psychological perspective. She is undoubtedly one of the top leaders and pioneers in the jump rope space. Sonny was also kind enough to share stories from her own life in our conversation, and I was truly impressed how gracefully she speaks about such serious topics. While anxiety and depression (among other mental health subjects) are often talked about in a very heavy and grave manner, Sonny approaches them with such optimistic passion and matter-of-factness.If you're not familiar with mental health topics, I would strongly encourage you to not shy away from listening because you will absolutely gain a new perspective from Sonny (without being emotionally stuffed to the brim). And for those who have faced, or are currently facing, any form of mental health challenge, Sonny will offer relatable experiences and a few of the small adjustments that made a huge impact for her. Also we have some solid laughs! Especially about Sonny's older sisters making her permanent turner for Double Dutch when she was young. Steve and Jake sit down our friend and author Mike Fry while sampling a Ohio pick of Kentucky Spirit and smoking an Epoch from Nat Sherman. We discuss Mike's book, G.O.A.T Envy, and the topic of creativity. The conversation addresses being creative in all aspects of life and we answer some live questions. Sit down, pour a drink, light up, and join us in the garage. Thank you to our sponsors Tinder Box at Easton, Altadis USA, and BS Cigar Company for the support and helping us make this happen.
Mike Fry, the recipient of the Henry Bergh Leadership Award in 2009 and 2012. He worked as an executive in the computer software development field for 10 years until he discovered the need for animal shelter reform. Yes, the Jordan vs LeBron debate has been done to death, but it's been done poorly. Fans have been subjected to attempts to "win" the conversation for their side, without legitimate points being exchanged. This all changed when Mike Fry wrote his book, "G.O.A.T. Envy", in an attempt to bring facts and remove the myths. Has LeBron surpassed Jordan? Is he really a more complete player? How important are championships in this topic? All of these questions, and so many more, are covered in this weeks episode. Enjoy! Mike's book can be purchased via his website: www.goatenvybook.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goat_envy/
Discussion facilitated by Connor Philgreen and Joel Ormord. Speakers include John Peters, Vince Ream, Caleb McCarty and Mike Fry.
We had a hell of a weekend in Columbus, OH with our 6th Annual Smoking Tent Event! Jake and Steve sit down with Mike Fry and Dustin Bovey and enjoy High West's Midwinter Night's Dram while smoking two different shapes of the same blend. Asylum 13's Medulla Oblongata pairs quite nicely as we discuss adversity and obstacles in everyday life and more major life circumstances and how to move and grow. We aren't quite recovered from the weekend and the drinks hit us harder than usual so please feel free to laugh with us as the episode evolves while we (Steve mainly, ha) feels the lack of sleep and whiskey take over! Sit back, pour a drink, light up, and join us in the garage.
In our first podcast we discuss bourbon, cigars, and what we want out of this podcast with Mike Fry and Josh Porter. We discuss when and how to find balance with life, family, friends, bourbon, and cigars.

Today's show is about the No-Kill movement that protects our pets. Once entered in an animal shelter, many pets are destroyed simply because the shelter has not yet enacted current “best practices”. Communities across the Unites States are changing that and Mike Fry, No-Kill Learning educator and activist tells all. Interview! Mike Fry, Founder and Senior Consultant at No Kill Learning “The killing that takes place is harmful and costly and damaging.” Mike was raised in a family of animal welfare activists who opened the first no-kill shelter in Minnesota in 1977. After working for Fortune 500 companies in the technology field, he decided to dedicate his shelter experience to end unnecessary euthanasia in local shelters. Mike hosts Just One Day every June 11th, which provides nationwide shelters and animal control organizations the educational opportunity to practice a no-kill philosophy for one trial day. Participants are invited to change their strategies by taking the no-kill pledge. Mike also discusses the negative repercussions of killing in shelters, from high volunteer turnover to questionable shelter ethics. For more information, visit nokilllearning.net and justoneday.ws.

In his second Guest Mix on the H3LIUM Crew Podcast, Mike Fry brings down the House on our H3family with his funky techy nu disco style. Being influenced by the music of Cassius, Louis La Roche, Mylo and of course Daft Punk, it's no wonder that Mike found himself with a huge love for that disco sound. His monthly podcast 'Digital Adventures' is a reflection of this passion, hour long mixes ranging from Nu Disco to House with some Funk and classics thrown in for good measure. Mike has graced the decks at some of London's most loved night spots including Ministry of Sound, Pacha, Brixton Academy and The Egg. Add to that a number of the capitals best bars, boat party's and even a hand full of gigs overseas in the clubbing mecca that is Ibiza. As one half of 'We The Speakers', Mike explores a more deep/tech sound, but it's as a solo performer that the 'disco loving', 'funk fanatic' comes out to play…… Links: https://www.facebook.com/DjMikeFry https://soundcloud.com/mike-fry Tracklist: Attack Yourself! - Laser Flip (Bit Funk Remix) Andhim - Boy Boy Boy Marlon Hoffstadt & Dansson - Shake That Louis La Roche - Let Go Moullinex - Sunflare Lxury - J.A.W.S Rosie Gaines - Closer Than Close Art Of Tones - Take Me Higher Mercury - Sweetness Luke Solomon - Say Something (Ashley Beedle Remix) Ninetoes - Finder (Lizzie Curious Remix) Mason - A Girl Like Me

Take Me Home - Pet Adoption and Animal Rescue - Pets & Animals on Pet Life Radio (PetLifeRadio.com)
Susan Daffron talks to Mike Fry from Animal Ark in Minnesota about a spayed female yellow Labrador retriever named Jasmine who is available for adoption. Jasmine is about 9 or 10 years old, so she's considered "mature" but she's ready for a lot more good times. Because she's an adult dog, you don't have to worry about issues like housebreaking. Jasmine is housetrained and even tells her humans when she needs to go out. She also already knows a lot of commands, including "sit," "lay," "shake," "spin," and "leave it." Like any retriever, Jasmine needs exercise, but if you can't always take long walks, you can tire her out by playing "fetch."
