He began his coaching career at Weston Ranch High School, where he served as the head coach for several seasons. Under his leadership, the team achieved significant success, including a Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championship in 2016 and a Northern California Division II title in 2020. ​After his tenure at Weston Ranch, Teevan joined Modesto Christian High School as the lead assistant coach. During his five seasons there, he played a pivotal role in the team's accomplishments, including their first Northern California Open Division title in 2022. ​In April 2025, Teevan was appointed as the head coach of Modesto Christian's boys' basketball program, succeeding Brice Fantazia. His extensive experience and proven track record are expected to continue the school's tradition of excellence in basketball.​Beyond coaching, Teevan has a background as a player. He was an all-Modesto Metro Conference player at Beyer High School in Modesto and later led the state in assists per game at Modesto Junior College, averaging 9.56 assists. Now, they say, management has changed the workplace policy banning certain types of clothes that MOSAC says “makes a political statement.” CapRadio's Kate Wolffe joins us on Insight with more background on the story, reaction from MOSAC management, and why employees took action by voting to unionize. California Wine Industry Challenges California is one of the top wine producers in the world. But the industry is facing some hard realities. Festival director Dr. Theresa Rojas provides a preview of this year's festival, which will feature dozens of workshops, panel discussions, and even a lowrider exhibition.

In this episode, we have on Tanner Pruett discusses his coaching journey and how it has evolved over time. Tanner played baseball at Modesto Junior College in CA and Crown College in MN. He began his coaching career at Starters Sports Training and went on to coach at St Cloud State University, Tread Athletics and is currently a pitching instructor at Mash Baseball and a volunteer pitching coach at North Central University. In this episode we discuss the importance of allowing athletes to explore and find their own movement solutions, rather than focusing on perfect mechanics. Tanner also discusses how his coaching approach aligns with ecological dynamics and the Constraint Led Approach. He highlights the value of incorporating real game-like situations, such as facing live batters, into training sessions. We discuss how coaches can use biomechanics to guide an athletes search process to find more functional movement solutions. I'm Anna B! I'm originally from Escalon, a small farming/ranching town in California's Central Valley. Born and raised in an Italian Catholic farming family where we farm walnuts, almonds and persimmons as well as horses, mules and the occasional parrot. I fell in love with mules and packing when I was 16 when I became a member of Backcountry Horsemen of California. I attended Modesto Junior College and received my BS in Geology from the University of California Davis. I began working for Rock Creek Pack Station when I was only 18 and I've worked almost every summer since then, but I'm more part time now. I'm very involved with Bishop Mule Days Celebration, as well as other projects with the American Mule Musuem and my continued dedication to Backcountry Horsemen. I'm passionate about access to public lands, rural living, using my privilege to help others and working with youth. I currently live near Bishop, CA and work full time as a Contract Forester for our local Utility company. He's not good with math and it's not his favorite subject either. He loves history, biology, and loves learning about lesser-known knowledge. He loves to read books about wars and strategies of war. He plans on attending Modesto Junior College for a year or two because it is free and then transfer to a university. He is conscious about the environment and encourages his family to reduce waste. She also does recording arts, songwriting, and acting. Saida is a Pageant Queen and was crowned 2021 California Miss Amazing Queen and was also a finalist at The Miss Amazing Nationals. In addition, she is a athlete for the Special Olympics, Miracle League, and AYSO Soccer. She loves to dance, cheer, and sing. Saida is a proud rare disease and disability advocate. One of her goals is to transfer to UCLA, UC Irvine, or UC Santa Barbara when she graduates from Modesto Junior College. In today's episode, I get to do a lot of reminiscing about where I grew up.  Our guest, Hartley Silva, just graduated from Modesto High School in Modesto, California.  She has already been taking classes in agriculture at Modesto Junior College, and she went to elementary school at a very small school that my elementary school used to play in sports.  Hartley and I grew up in the same county and I went to Modesto Junior College too, but Hartley is taking her love of agriculture to a level that I never even dreamed of. The list of accomplishments for this young lady just does not stop.  Hartley is currently serving as the "Jersey Queen" for the State Of California.  She also just received a state proficiency award for dairy production.  And, she is raising, selling, and showing her own line of Jersey cattle under the business name "Flying Hart Registered Jerseys".  If this were not enough she has served as both a chapter and section officer in the FFA, will be seeking a national proficiency award and an American Degree. I could stop right there, and that would make an incredible resume for 99% of people in our country, but Hartley did not stop there.  She has gone all around the U.S. showing dairy cattle and judging livestock.  And, this has even taken her "across the pond" to Scotland, where she placed in a worldwide competition for judging livestock.  As an individual in this international competition, Hartley was awarded 6th place.  On a team of two with her sister, they placed 3rd.  What an incredible accomplishment! Hartley is studying a lot of different aspects of agriculture and livestock production in college.  She is planning on transferring to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo to finish her bachelor's degree and get her teaching certificate so that she can bundle all of this knowledge into a package and deliver it to her own agriculture students.  She has a plan, and there is no question in my mind that she will execute it!

In this week's episode of the Transfer Nation Videocast and Podcast, Alexis Atsilvsgi (pronounced: ah-tsee-luh-ski) Zaragoza shares her #TransferStory and her path to advocacy & activism in higher education as well as her how transferring made her who she is today. Transferring from Modesto Junior College to UC Berkeley, Alexis has served as a Board Member on the California Community College’s Board of Governors, the Board of Trustees for Calbright College, the Board of Admissions for the UC system in 2019, and currently serves as the 2020-22 Student Regent for the University of California Board of Regents. She is a McNair Scholar studying rural education for BIPOC and geographic disparity in university admissions. Leadership and student activism are tremendous parts of Alexis's student story and her higher education philosophy. SHOW NOTES: I had an interesting transition from community college to a four-year university in 1993.  My first three semesters of college were spent in Modesto at Modesto Junior College studying animal science.  During that time I was living at home, working full-time, and then working as much as I could at my step-father's farm in my free time.  I was busy, but it was working.  I had a 3.5 GPA, and I was on the Dean's List.  I was performing at a high level. Then I transferred to Montana State University, didn't have a job, joined the club baseball team, and lived in the dorm.  I had my first ever semester in which I did not achieve at least a 3.0, and my first ever semester achieving below a 2.0.  I was almost immediately placed on academic probation.  I continued to get poor grades for about a year.  Then I hit pause on college, got residency in Montana, and started paying for college myself. Once I was back to more of a stressful lifestyle with harder classes, a heavier class load, full-time work, rent and tuition to pay, etc. I saw my grades creep back up.  It became clear to me that I was left to create my own structure because of free time I was not nearly as familiar as if I were forced to create structure due to being busy.  If I only had 90 minutes in a week to work on an assignment, I would concentrate intently on that assignment and do a better job.  If I had copious amounts of free time, I would wonder where all the time went, and I would do poorly. For years I thought I was all alone, but today I interviewed Anna Webel.  Anna is just finishing up her sophomore year in high school, but she has already discovered this about herself.  She keeps herself incredibly busy playing sports in all three seasons, serving as an officer in the FFA chapter, raising cattle at home, and showing cattle at different shows around Illinois and beyond.  She is achieving at a high level in all of these areas, and she credits the need to have structure to be able to participate in everything that interests her.  Without it, she knows that she would have to give something up, and that drives her to maximize her performance in everything she does when she gets the opportunity to work on it.

The summer that I turned 19 I did a solo road trip from California to Idaho to Montana and then back home again.  At some point on that trip for some, unknown reason, I found myself in the admissions office of Montana State University.  I got talked into filling out an application to attend college there and paid the $30 fee to apply. By the time I got home to my parent's house my mother was already holding an envelope with the Montana State University emblem where the return address goes.  She had a concerned look on her face, and she asked me what this was all about.  We opened the envelope together, and the letter said something to the effect of, "welcome to Montana State University".  This was back in the days when many of our land grant universities had plenty of space in classrooms and empty dorm rooms when the semesters began.  So, they were eager to accept students.  They must have accepted me and sent that letter the day that I filled it out! My mother and I went completely different directions emotionally after we read that letter.  She went down the road of her son's transfer from Modesto Junior College to a four year university somewhere far away coming way too soon.  I went down the road of excitement and elation, dreaming of cattle ranches, mountains and big winter snows. Many discussions were had about out of state tuition, the dangers of winter travel and independence.  I was already registered and paid up at Modesto Junior College for my third semester of post-high school education.  I had lived in the Central Valley of California my entire life.  Including trips to a cabin in the Sierra Nevadas, I could still count the number of times I had actually seen it snow in my life on both hands. I had always wanted to live somewhere with a real winter, with snow piling up and temperatures going down.  Now, it was going to happen.  I wasn't just going to go to college.  I wasn't just going to move out of my parent's home for the first time.  I was going to find adventure. I started my education at Montana State University in Winter Semester of 1993.  The semester began in January, and the entire West had quite a winter that year.  For me to get to Montana I had to get over the Donner Pass on Interstate 80 between Sacramento and Reno.  That pass was being closed so often than winter that I actually ended up leaving for college about five days early during a break between storms when the pass was open. After a few days staying with friends in Boise, Idaho I headed out for Bozeman the day after a rare blizzard in Boise.  I was now in a real winter, and that day driving from Idaho to Montana showed me that almost immediately.  I hit ice and slid into the median of Interstate 84 near Glenns Ferry, Idaho that morning.  Luckily, I was able to spin my way out in my little, two wheel drive Nissan pickup, but I could only get out into the westbound lanes.  So, I had to back track to Hammett, Idaho, exit and get back in the eastbound lanes.  I proceeded east again...only slower. Somewhere between Rupert, Idaho and American Falls I found myself being the first vehicle to reach a jackknifed semi that was blocking both lanes of traffic. I had never experienced anything like an interstate being blocked before and just waited there patiently for the big wreckers to get him back on the road.  I was nervous but exuberant at all of the snow around me. An hour or so later, now heading north on Interstate 15 almost to Idaho Falls, I started seeing signs that the interstate was closed 50 miles ahead.  I could not believe that they would purposefully close an interstate and convinced myself that I must not understand what I was reading.  So, I did not exit.  I proceeded with my original plan. After I passed the final exit for Idaho Falls the interstate changed from pavement with patches of snow to being completely snow packed.  I for some reason thought this made the driving conditions safer and increased my sp...

My last semester there I took a dairy science class, and I can remember the instructor named Hal Carlton talking to us about career options.  He kept talking to the class about the dairy industry, which meant working in the factory side of the dairy business in creameries and the like.  There were a lot of jobs available, and good employees were really needed. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since I took that class, and since I have seen Hal.  Today's interview brought that all back to me.  I am interviewing Whitney Ten Napel on this episode.  She is currently a junior at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota.  She is majoring in dairy manufacturing, which she explains to me is the same thing as what Hal described as the dairy industry. Whitney is able to articulate her choice of major and future career very well.  She knows why she loves agriculture, and why she wants to work on the industrial side of things.  Also, Whitney has really been exploring her options when it comes to her chosen career.  She has already completed two internships, working in plants and processing both milk and cheese.  And, she is going to complete another internship this summer, doing it all again. Dr. Ginger Charles, a Retired Police Sergeant, discusses her book, "Police Pursuit of the Common Good: Reforming and Restoring the Police Community."  In her book, Dr. Charles examines the current issues facing law enforcement and marginalized communities like the Black Community.   She presents reasons why our police communities appear to be in constant conflict with marginalized communities for the last several years. In the book, Dr. Charles explores the behaviors in the police culture from a social psychological perspective, illustrating the importance of understanding police behaviors in order to change the culture of conflict.  It is her experience as a police officer that provides the reader with a unique understanding from inside the police community and as an observer of that community. Dr. Charles concludes with potential solutions to reform and restore the police culture, as well as heal the divide between our communities and the police.  Dr. Ginger Charles worked as a police officer in Colorado before retiring in 2013.   Dr. Charles received her PhD in Health Psychology from Saybrook University in 2005, while working as a police sergeant.   Her profession of policing and dedication to service lead her to explore how to help police officers build resilience and inner strength.  Having worked as a police officer for almost three decades, she has a unique understanding, “living in the petri dish,” of the trauma and hardships that police officers and police leaders encounter daily.   Her research is focused on identifying solutions to help police officers survive and thrive in their careers and beyond, while maintaining their mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health.
