Londra'da yer alan Barbican Center'da yaklaşık bir ay kadar önce “Unravel: the Power and Politics of Textiles in Art,” [Çözülme: Sanatta Tekstilin Gücü ve Politikası] başlıklı bir sergi açıldı. Pankaj Mishra tarafından verilmesi planlanan “The Shoah after Gaza” başlıklı konferans olayların alevlenmesine neden oldu. Öte yandan Kültür İşçileri Soykırıma Karşı(Culture Workers Against Genocid), Barbican CEO'su Clare Spencer ve yönetim kurulundan, Mishra'nın konuşmasının iptal edilmesine ve Filistin merkezli Radio Al Hara'nın kurucularından Elias Anastas'ın "sansür" uygulanmasına yol açan karar alma süreci hakkında "tam şeffaflık" talep etti.

According to the BBC, over 40% of Britons gained weight during the pandemic, with an average gain of over half a stone. Since lockdowns have ended, many people may feel trapped by their new unhealthy habits, addicted to sugary or salty snacks, and too exhausted to even think of hitting the gym. Traditional dieting logic would tell those people to “eat less and move more.” But what if that logic was fundamentally flawed? That question is the eye-opening premise behind ‘The Inflowfit Method', a comprehensively researched and lauded new book by tooday's special guest Mounira Assoul. Mounira Assoul, Mimi for short is the founder of the Inflowfit method. A certified Eating psychology coach since 2020 as well as a qualified health & fitness coach for over ten years. She specialises in habit changing, fat loss, progressive compound, and resistance training to gain healthy muscle mass and bone density. She is a certified Pilates Instructor. Prior to that, she worked in public relations, management and communication field both for international companies and as a freelance consultant. She holds an MA in Diplomatic Studies and Communication as well as Translation and Interpreting Eng/Fren/Arabic. She believes that mutual respect and understanding should govern all relations and that only through education and guidance we can really transform peoples' lives. This eBook is the culmination of her own ongoing transformation journey as well as relevant issues faced by the clients she has been working with for the past few years. It is also the collection of all the wisdom beads extricated from the many books, YouTube channels, scientific podcasts she delved into over the past fifteen years.

In this episode I interview Archaeologist/History Teacher Kariman Mango and together we explore Cairo's roaring 1920's - The limelight is placed on two main singers; Naimah il Masriah and Mounira il Mahdiah. Kariman gives an elaborate historical and political account of the time focusing on the women's feminist movement. We attempt to discover if these women were true artists or simply entertainers. We also delve into whether we should romanticize Cairo's extravagant 1920's or do we place these women in the right context and express the difficult circumstances they lived through. One of the world's most multicultural cities, twentieth-century Cairo was a magnet for the ambitious and talented. During the 1920s and '30s, a vibrant music, theater, film, and cabaret scene flourished, defining what it meant to be a “modern” Egyptian. Women came to dominate the Egyptian entertainment industry—as stars of the stage and screen but also as impresarias, entrepreneurs, owners, and promoters of a new and strikingly modern entertainment industry. In Midnight in Cairo: The Divas of Egypt's Roaring '20s (W. W. Norton, 2021, in arrangement with Saqi Books), Raphael Cormack unveils the rich histories of independent, enterprising women like vaudeville star Rose al-Youssef (who launched one of Cairo's most important newspapers); nightclub singer Mounira al-Mahdiyya (the first woman to lead an Egyptian theater company) and her great rival, Oum Kalthoum (still venerated for her soulful lyrics); and other fabulous female stars of the interwar period, a time marked by excess and unheard-of freedom of expression. Buffeted by crosswinds of colonialism and nationalism, conservatism and liberalism, “religious” and “secular” values, patriarchy and feminism, this new generation of celebrities offered a new vision for women in Egypt and throughout the Middle East. Christopher S. Rose is a social historian of medicine focusing on Egypt and the Eastern Mediterranean in the 19th and 20th century.
