Everything about the Devon Worley Band makes you think of the South! Big classic guitar riffs and a soulful female lead singer belting out anthems! They've even shared the stage with bands like Whiskey Myers and Lynyrd Skynyrd. However, these up-and-coming-Country-Rockers are really from Minneapolis, Minnesota...We've heard great things about this new band and they're playing Smith's Olde Bar this Thursday September 14th along with Atlanta's own Dave Franklin and Nelson Nolen; so we had to get Ms. Devon Worley on the phone to invite music fans to join us for their big Atlanta debut… Devon Worley - Welcome to Braves Country!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I love how instagram can just bring us all together! I had a pleasure of sitting down with Kels last week for my first interview for #womentowatch Wednesday, lean in and give a listen! From her website https://www.findingkels.com/about KELS is the perfect mix of jazz, pop and soul. Her brash vocals and sultry style reflect the old school sound of some of her biggest influences- Ms. Lauryn Hill, Sarah Vaughan, Erykah Badu, Adele, and Amy Winehouse with a profound lyricism to match. Born in Germany to military parents, she moved often as a child. By age 5 she was living in Pittsburgh with her mother and brother. KELS started writing songs at 13 years old. Growing up she was heavily involved in choir, singing at church and in jazz ensembles. Her debut EP, Slow Ryde, released in November 2021 displays her unique vocal style and versatile songwriting. KELS debuted her original music at a series of music festivals in Pittsburgh during the summer of 2021- headlining at The Three Rivers Arts Festival, Millvale Music Festival, Picklesburgh and opened for Kat Wright on her fall tour stop at Thunderbird Music Hall. In early 2022, KELS released a series of live renditions of original music. Most notably, her independent release of “Just Let Me Go (Live at Kingfly Spirits)” gained over half a million views on TikTok and has been streamed over a quarter of a million times across all listening platforms. Her newest release, "Be Fine." was featured in Earmilk and Newsweek as well as on a billboard in downtown Atlanta. KELS has been based in Atlanta for one year, and recently held her first headlining show at Smith's Olde Bar. The show sold out before doors opened. KELS is currently touring the United States independently. If you're available and in Austin this week (since I'll be out of town) please go see her and support her on tour this year! Here is the link: CLICK HERE Growing up in Texas, twin brothers Jonathan and Justin Fox were inspired by Texas heat and southern spice. After moving from Fort Worth to Atlanta, Justin and Jonathan were homesick for Texas-style barbecue and after being unable to find the flavors they grew up with, the twin brothers decided to take matters into their own hands. With no professional training, Jonathan and Justin began throwing backyard gatherings for friends and family to test out their barbecue skills. Small gatherings grew into cooking for over 250 people, a barbecue catering operation was born. After a pop-up stint at Smith's Olde Bar in 2005 where Fox Brothers was named “Runner-up Best Barbecue in Atlanta", the brothers decided to open their own restaurant. In 2007, The Brothers along with partner Beau Nolen, opened the Candler Park location on Dekalb Avenue and began welcoming guests with their signature style of smoked brisket, pulled pork, wings, and a mix of original side dishes seven days a week. #781 - Jen Chapin The Jen Chapin Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. Are you here? Oh! Yes, you are. This is The Paul Leslie Hour a place where you are most welcome. There are some recorded interviews from way back in Paul's broadcasting life that went on the radio and then the next week tucked away on a tape never to be heard again. Such as this specimen you're about to hear. The special guest is Jen Chapin, a really wonderful, lovely and talented musician, singer and songwriter. She was performing at the famed music venue Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta. Before the concert, she sat down with Paul, right on the street, for this interview. Now, Paul was a bit green here. A bit awkward, but Jen of course was the consummate professional. When Paul thinks about the early guests who were very nice to him, Jen Chapin comes to mind. You know, this show has been going for 18 years, almost 19. Almost… We've got a lot of interviews like this that we want to make available to more people on Spotify, iHeartRadio, Audible, Apple and so on. You can be a patron of the spoken word and supporter of independent media. Just go to thepaulleslie.com/support And we thank you. Now, let's hear what went down on the street in Atlanta. Here is the Jen Chapin interview. The Paul Leslie Hour is a talk show dedicated to “Helping People Tell Their Stories.” Some of the most iconic people of all time drop in to chat. Please join us in welcoming Emmy Law to chat with Heart of Indie Radio Host Eddie Davis (Captain Eddie) Emmy Law is an indie-pop singer-songwriter currently based in Nashville, TN. Before moving to the city in February 2021, she spent four years in Atlanta, heavily involved in the local music scene. She's performed in some of Atlanta's top venues, including Eddie's Attic, Red Clay Music Foundry, and the Music Room at Smith's Olde Bar. She's played in a variety of notable venues in the southeast, including Isis Music Hall in Asheville, NC, the Crimson Moon in Dahlonega, GA, and the Evening Muse in Charlotte, NC, where she opened for the national touring band The Arcadian Wild. She's also made a name for herself in Atlanta's open mic scene, winning the night and advancing to the final round in a few of the best the city has to offer: Eddie's Attic, EOP at Red Clay Theater, and the 99x Original Series. In 2014, Emmy won the John Jarrard Foundation songwriting contest, which was judged in part by members of the Zac Brown Band. As part of the contest winnings, Emmy opened onstage for some renowned Nashville songwriters and says it's been one of the best moments in her performing career. Emmy's song ‘Simple' from her ‘Find Ourselves Again' EP was chosen as one of Immersive Atlanta's best local songs of 2019. The blog states, “Emmy Law's ‘Simple' is a barebones folk song about navigating adult love and struggling to locate your identity in the present. All the while, the song's delicate balance between piano and Law's gossamer voice makes you wonder about the last time you let anything be simple.” Emmy's new EP ‘Bitter Heart', is the first music she's tracked in this vocal style, and it's a step in a new direction for her. It's the first music she's recorded in Nashville, and also the first music she's recorded in this vocal style. The EP, out May 21, 2021, is a step in a new direction for her. Aspen Anonda is no stranger to baring her soul in all that she does. Since her debut performance at the age of 9, her love for songwriting, travel, and personal connection led her to release a debut EP in 2017, “Inner Workings of my Soul.” She followed up this release with two singles “Stay a Little While” in 2018 and “Travel Therapy" in 2019. 2021 is an exciting year for Aspen as she begins to release new music including her latest EP This One Is About You, out April 11. Because of her love for astrology, each song from the project was released on the new moon of each month to embrace these significant moments of manifestation. Aspen has had the opportunity to perform all over Georgia at venues such as 40 Watt Club, Eddies Attic, Smith's Olde Bar, and the GA Theatre Rooftop. She was also featured at the 30A Songwriters Festival in Santa Rosa, Florida. Connect with Aspen: Instagram | Facebook | Website | TikTok

Joanna Duff is a singer-songwriter based out of Los Angeles. California born and Southern bred, she is known for her unique tone, relaxing vocals and emotion-filled lyrics that blend together with acoustic guitar, strings and keys. She started writing her own music and playing open mic nights while attending the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. Her debut album "We Are the Lucky Ones," produced by Sean McPherson, was released in 2015 and has gained her fans from around the globe. The album is dedicated to her late father. Duff is passionate in using her musical talents to support philanthropy. She is an avid supporter of the Songs for Kids Foundation and animal rescue organizations. She has performed in the Songs for Kids “500 Songs for Kids” fundraiser since 2009 and is a regular volunteer at LA-based dog adoption center, Wags & Walks. For her latest single, "Other Than You," Duff teamed up with LA-based producer Kyle Burke to evolve her sound into a richer, dreamier, moodier feel while remaining true to her folk roots. Proceeds from the song’s release and video will benefit Wags & Walks. Joanna performed regularly at Atlanta’s Smith’s Olde Bar in Midtown with ‘The Lucky Ones’ band Ann Moceyunas (cello), Sanjay Kothari (lead guitar and background vocals) and Jennifer Tullar (background vocals).
A year and a half ago, I was playing a set at a really famous venue in Atlanta called Smith’s Olde Bar. A fellow musician asked me if they could sit in and play on my set since they really liked my music. I was flattered and said “of course,” and what followed was, to put it lightly, a disaster. I stood in front of a filled venue playing my original songs over a drum kit so loud and off beat I could hear myself think. I shouldered the shame and the blame for such an awful set even though I had come prepared, and this episode details the expense of compassion when you forget to use it on yourself first.www.jaclynsteele.com/selfdiscoverypodInstagram: @jaclynsteeleYoutube: youtube.com/officialjaclynsteeleHigh Vibe Thursday Newsletter Sign Up & Free Ebook: https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5eab3ec682272f0026f5a7a6

Born to musician parents, Ethan was exposed to guitar and vocals from the moment he was born. After telling his mom that he wanted to "sing like Steve Perry and play guitar like Eddie Van Halen," Ethan began formal guitar lessons, singing and performing at 7 years old. His early passion for music was nurtured by instructors such as Benjamin Ryan Williams, bassist for the Indigo Girls; Heber Pampillon, guitarist for Kickin' Valentina; and Greg Lee, bassist for Yacht Rock. At the age of 12, Ethan began teaching himself at home. Inspired by the music of the Goo Goo Dolls, John Mayer, U2, Van Halen and Stevie Ray Vaughan, he has developed a diverse playing style that he is constantly working to perfect. You will rarely see him without a guitar in his hands. Over the years, Ethan has performed at Variety Playhouse, Smith's Olde Bar, Vinyl, the Masquerade, the 10 High and many other venues in the Atlanta area --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thegeorgiasongbirds/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thegeorgiasongbirds/support
