A Utah plastic surgeon is facing his day in court after being charged with conspiracy charges by prosecutors after they claim that the surgeon and three others dumped over 2,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine down the drain and administered saline water to children to convince them they were vaccinated. Now some Utah lawmakers have rallied in support of Dr. Michael Kirk Moore Jr., saying he deserves a medal for his bravery. Greg and Holly discuss the situation.
When we're young, our faces have a smooth, full look thanks to well-defined fat pads and tight connective tissue. But as we age, those structures start to change, leading to sags, bags and changes in facial shape. Facial aging doesn't happen all at once. It's a gradual process that starts as early as your 20s. At first, the face can look more sculpted and angular, but over time, fat volume loss, drooping, and eventually muscle and bone changes become more noticeable. Restoring a youthful look often means going beyond just the skin. It takes a thoughtful approach that can include restoring lost volume, repositioning fat and connective tissue, and tightening the skin. Drs. Bass and Edinger break down how facial aging really works, from the inside out, and why understanding these changes is key to treating them effectively. It has been 2 years since my mastectomy and immediate reconstruction with an implant. I am about to go to my annual plastic surgery follow up appointment right after recording this episode. I always say that the plastic surgeon put me back together after the breast surgeon took me apart to remove the cancer (and the left breast in my case). So you will hear me say that the plastic surgery appointment is easy compared to the medical oncology or breast surgery follow up appointments. The plastic surgeon did her work and I recovered. It is essentially a “well-visit” and she does not have any focus on my risk of recurrence or my overall longevity. I was completing my appointment check-in on my phone before going to the appointment and it hit me that some of the health history is permanent. Despite the abnormality of the breast that is listed in my health history in my online chart being an event from 2 years ago, I realized I am not ready to archive that content or remove it as a health condition in my chart. Ultimately, I do want to put 2023 and all associated health problems (i.e. breast cancer diagnosis and mastectomy and the reality of survivorship hitting me hard), I am not ready to do so. Why? There are too many reminders of what it was like back then to even begin to list them right here. What happened then has changed me (sort of) and changed my life (for certain). If you'd like to be the first to receive updates and exclusive content from the upcoming Breast Cancer Life newsletter, please email me at connect@breastcancerlife.org. "What is Holistic Plastic Surgery? Wellness is an expansive concept. It is comprehensive because its foundation is grounded in many roots. It is aspirational and achievable, and it is accessible to all. The journey of wellness is highly individualistic; because we are different, our paths to our highest selves will be different. Dr. Shirley is a Plastic Surgeon and Integrative Medicine Specialist. She believes that beauty is a manifestation of wellness, and is one of its many dimensions. When you are well, on many levels, you radiate-- and that is undeniably beautiful. Wellness is to beauty what an essential ingredient is to a recipe. The two are fundamentally intertwined; they work well when together. Each may exist independently of the other, but without the other, the essence is incomplete. Join us to find out more!" Your beauty plan should be tailored to you—your goals, your timeline, and what you're comfortable with when it comes to recovery and results. Dr. Bass explains his idea of “right-sized beauty planning” and why having a personalized approach makes all the difference in plastic surgery. Whether you're looking to address one specific feature, maintain your look over the next year, or map out a long-term transformation, having a clear plan helps you prioritize, budget, and coordinate treatments more effectively. Dr. Douglas Steinbrech joins Dr. Bass to discuss his game-changing concept of body banking. Instead of tossing out fat after liposuction, body banking preserves it and strategically reinjects it into areas like the chest, shoulders, arms, or buttocks to enhance your shape and keep your body in balance. It's not just about taking fat away. It's about sculpting, reshaping, and maximizing what you already have. This technique can also reduce the risk of that frustrating post-lipo “rebound fat,” where your body tries to make up for what was lost by storing fat in all the wrong places. Hear why fat transfer to the breasts doesn't always go as planned, and why fat tends to “stick” better in some areas than others. Drs. Bass and Steinbrech also discuss how body banking may help prevent visceral fat buildup and related health problems, the role age plays in fat graft success, and options for people who don't have much fat to begin with but still want a sculpted, athletic look. About Dr. Douglas Steinbrech Dr. Douglas Steinbrech specializes in minimally invasive aesthetics, blending this approach into both surgical and non-surgical techniques. Named one of America's Top Plastic Surgeons by the Consumers' Research Council of America, he's known as the go-to surgeon for men. Using advanced techniques tailored to the male body, a large portion of Dr. Steinbrech's practice is dedicated to enhancing natural masculine features. Drs. Bass and Edinger break down what a facelift can and can't do. Facelifts are great for tightening loose skin, lifting jowls, and restoring volume in the face and neck—helping you look more refreshed and youthful. But they don't address everything. Wrinkles, sun damage, and changes around the eyes and brows usually need other treatments. There's a big difference between how facelifts are described online and how surgeons talk about them. The doctors break down that language gap so you know what those buzzwords actually mean. Bottom line: A facelift is the gold standard for sagging skin, but knowing its limits is key to getting natural-looking results. Find out who's a good candidate for a facelift, how long the results typically last, and whether combining it with other procedures might give you the outcome you're really looking for. Can one device transform the future of fat grafting? Join Dr. Grant Stevens on this compelling episode of The Technology of Beauty as he welcomes Dr. David Kirn, the innovative mind behind the Orchid device—a cutting-edge, all-in-one system engineered to simplify and optimize the fat grafting process. Designed with both efficiency and predictability in mind, Orchid enables surgeons to harvest, purify, and re-inject fat using a completely mechanical, self-contained system that eliminates the need for centrifuges, decanting, or a complex setup. In this episode, David explains how his years in aesthetic surgery and a longstanding frustration with the inefficiencies of traditional fat grafting led to the development of this revolutionary tool. By using an FDA-approved absorbent material to remove oil and aqueous content, the Orchid device delivers a consistently high-quality fat graft with minimal waste and maximum viability. With each cycle taking only minutes, the system allows for fat grafting procedures to be performed in-office, significantly cutting down time and overhead for physicians while offering long-lasting, natural results for patients.David also shares insights into the FDA pathway, future product expansions, and how Orchid could position itself as a market disruptor—not just in facial fat grafting, but also in breast and body applications. If you've ever stared at your front camera and thought, “Was my face always like this, or is my phone out to get me?”— welcome to the club, Sloots! This week, Sofia sits down with the ridiculously smart (and suspiciously ageless) Dr. Marissa Lafer to expose the truth about Botox, bad filler, and why half of us are out here getting catfished by our own reflections.
