The transfer window has slammed shut, thank goodness. Just before the sash met the sill, though, your favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots convened to talk it over. We covered most of the arrivals--Nicolò Zaniolo, Nicolò Fagioli--and the departures--Jonathan Ikoné, Christian Kouamé, Cristiano Biraghi--but we did record with a day left, so there are a couple of gaps in the record. That wasn't all that happened, though, because there was a real, honest-to-god Serie A game too. We ran through the action in Fiorentina's alternately enjoyable and miserable win over Genoa. And of course, we couldn't let the episode end without a discussion of Rocco Commisso's burner accounts, which is a real thing that a billionaire in his 70s had (has?). Along the way, we found a new nickname for Producer Mike that he really, really likes and learned about McMike's logic-defying Moebius underpants. Your favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots are back following a snoozefest of a draw at Empoli to, well, discuss the Viola. We start off with a look back at happier times before dipping into some more of Rocco Commisso's comments to the media about the future of the team (content warning: very silly). The meat of this episode, though, is a conversation about what we learned from the Empoli game. We talk about the tactical benefits of a back 3 compared to a back 4, shout out ginger teen god Pietro Comuzzo, and try to figure out if there are any lessons to take into the midweek tie against crack Welsh outfit the New Saints. Along the way, we learn about McMike's post-Disney party hangover, Producer Mike's unconscionable refusal to share his fluency in Welsh, and Tito's musings about what other compound phrases follow the same pluralization rules as attorneys-general. Thank you to the Sport Social Podcast Network for hosting us and to Windchime Weather for the music. Feel free to reach out to us on the website or on Twitter. Most US and Canadian domestic soccer fans are certain that the second incarnation of the North American Soccer League (2011-17) officially met its untimely demise in early 2018, just a few months after the first-year San Francisco Deltas beat the New York Cosmos in the 2017 Soccer Bowl - and amidst a seemingly desperate/last-minute antitrust lawsuit alleging collusion between US Soccer and Major League Soccer to keep the league down. While the NASL hasn't played another game since, the lawsuit - largely ideated and funded by spurned billionaire/Cosmos owner Rocco Commisso - is still very much alive, and now officially headed to trial beginning January 6th of next year. At issue: whether the governing body of soccer in the US and/or its officially designated top-tier professional league conspired to exclude the NASL from Division I-sanctioned play, and schemed to monopolize the market for men's pro soccer. At stake: the future direction, competitive landscape and legal structure of American professional soccer. We get a full primer on the history, rationale and likely outcomes of this stealthily persistent case, with UCLA law school professor, sports/soccer legal expert (and 1970s-era ASL Cleveland Cobras fan) Steven Bank - whose influential Twitter/X feed is an essential follow on all things law + soccer. + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: "Good Seats" Show & Defunct Team Merch: http://tee.pub/lic/RdiDZzQeHSY Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable SPONSOR THANKS: Royal Retros (promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 Old School Shirts.com (promo code: GOODSEATS) https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats FIND & FOLLOW: Website: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable

Two-thirds of your favorite Fiorentina podcasts are here with a little doom and gloom. This time, it's Producer Mike and Tito, with McMike allegedly off keeping an alleged eye on Rocco Commisso, allegedly. The remaining musketeers engage in some pessimistic gazing at the Viola, looking at recent results, upcoming fixtures (which look awfully difficult!), the Conference League, and some bigger picture goals. If we sound pretty down, well, keep in mind that we recorded this the day before the Lazio game, which may have altered our outlook just a little bit. We touch on new signings in February, the future of Gaetano Castrovilli and Dodô, and where Vincenzo Italiano should place his focus for the rest of the year. Along the way, we get scorching hot transfer predictions from Producer Mike, Tito talking himself back into a dark place (that may or may not be a closet with a washer/dryer), and which Fiorentina player is like Pippo Inzaghi but without the tantric sex stuff. As always, we had a blast making this and hope you enjoy listening. Feel free to reach out to us on the website or on Twitter if you have questions or comments. Alexi Lalas and David Mosse discuss the FIFA World Cup announcing the 2030 host locations for the FIFA World Cup: Portugal, Spain, and Morocco. But what really grabs our attention is the special twist for the 100th anniversary of the World Cup; Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay will each host a singular game to give their respective national teams and fans a home game experience. Shifting gears, since the 2022 Men's World Cup, Brenden Aaronson has struggled to find his form that we once saw glimpses of during his time at Leeds United. Now with Union Berlin, we break down his recent struggles and explore the possibilities of him returning. We then turn our attention to the MLS MVP race. Alexi Lalas shares his personal criteria for ranking the players in contention for the MVP title. We also delve into the implications of Messi's fluctuating status and how teams are beginning to address the ticketing issue associated with his absence. In #AskAlexi Alexi is asked about the current VAR issues occurring in the EPL and is also asked about Fiorentina owner, Rocco Commisso's comments in 2018 regarding the state of US soccer. Your favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots are back to talk about a slew of topics. We begin with a breakdown of the Viola mercato (spoiler alert: we think there may still be gaps in the squad), then veer into how the team's looked on the pitch (another spoiler alert: not very good!), and wrap up with a discussion about what some possible fixes could be. Oh, and I guess it's worth mentioning that we touch on why Fiorentina owner and president Rocco Commisso is badmouthing our very own Mike McCormack in team press conferences, and how exactly we feel about it. Along the way, we learn about the Samuele Ricci slide whistle, that Mike lives a liquid IV, that Tito is VERY hungover, and that we should never, ever, ever name any names, under any circumstances. We had a blast making this one and hope you enjoy listening. Rocco Commisso: “Sono amareggiato e deluso, devo fermarmi a riflettere”
You might not know this about your VN staff, but we're usually a little behind the times. It's why McMike's got an endless supply of 1990s movie references and why all Tito's music is from 2006 or earlier. It's also why we're only just getting this post-Cagliari episode of the podcast out right now (okay, that's actually entirely on Tito, so direct any irritation his way and not towards the Mikes, please). Anyhow, we had a rollicking good time on this one. We opened up with a chat about the Cagliari game, trying to figure out what went right (hint: it's the Saponaraissance) and how Fiorentina can keep it going. We then pivoted to a conversation about Dušan Vlahović's future—hopefully not with Juventus—and how Rocco Commisso's handled it before wrapping up with a back-and-forth about what (if anything) the brass has learned from this whole fiasco. Along the way, we learned that there may be a new addition to Mike's wine Mount Rushmore, that Tito really really can't speak Swedish, and that it's great when the Viola have already messed everything up, because that means there's nothing left to mess up. We'd also like to highlight McMike's anniversary (aaaawwwwww) and thank Judith for lending him to us. We'd also like to point everyone in Producer Mike's direction; he's had a hell of a couple of weeks and deserves everyone's best thoughts. As always, we had a blast making this and hope you enjoy listening to it. Special thanks to Windchime Weather for the music.

It's been a little while but Viola Station rides the airwaves again. This time, your intrepid hosts discuss the Inter Milan game (we recorded this in late September but, due to some issues on the production end, we didn't get released until a couple weeks later) and what exactly went wrong. More importantly, though, Mike and Tito dive into the mess surrounding Fiorentina's new stadium with a lot of help from the best cardiologist we know: Dr. Nicola Corvaja. The native Florentine has his ear to the ground back in Tuscany and knows the exact pulse of the city better than just about anyone, from the fans in the Curva Fiesole all the way up to Rocco Commisso himself. As a bonus, takes a couple of dives into local history to scratch that itch you didn't know you had for Guelph-Ghibelline politics and how they apply to local politics today. Gab Marcotti speaks with Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso about the impact of coronavirus in Serie A, the struggles of building a new stadium, and Fiorentina's future.
Mina Rzouki, Nicky Bandini and Gab Marcotti discuss Rocco Commisso's referee criticism, Lazio's impressive form, Roma's continued slide and look ahead to the Milan Derby.
