Laura & Jim continue their discussion with Andrea Dunlop, host of “Nobody Should Believe Me” who has strong criticisms about the documentary “Take Care of Maya” based on her own background with medical child abuse. Andrea casts doubts about Beate Kowalski's behavior toward her daughter Maya, she has doubts about the doctors who treated Maya before her admittance to Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital…in addition to doubts on Jack Kowalski's motives for suing the hospital who separated his daughter from her family. Jim and Laura explain what they see as the deep flaws in the investigation into Beate, and the assumptions about the family's behavior. Laura and Jim examine the entire context and highlight the most important aspects of the case in their professional view.We will post on our FB page several sources for our listeners to make up their own minds: (1) the transcript of the interview that Laura mentions that Detective Stephanie Graham conducted with Jack Kowalski about his wife Beate's behavior and his daughter Maya's illness; (2) Detective Graham's deposition in which she admits her suspicion of the Kowalski's was totally based on what she learned from Dr. Sally Smith, the child abuse pediatrician; (3) the court ordered psychological evaluation of Beate Kowalski, which contains crucial written statements by another patient Jessica Stevens (and her mother Sarah Stevens) who was also treated by Dr. Kirkpatrick for CRPS , and who was also put into a medically induced Ketamine coma in the same clinic in Mexico overseen by Dr. Cantu. (He also treated Maya). The Stevens family knew Beate and Maya and have a lot of important observations. Finally, in this episode, Andrea mentions the case of her sister Megan Carter, who was investigated for medical child abuse. It is only fair that we supply the actual opinion of the court, where the judge found no factual basis for child abuse by her sister Megan. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/6567384-Megan-Carter-Court-Order.htmlAndrea also mentions the NBC investigative report into her sister's case and about the doctors involved in Megan's case. Here is that article too. https://www.king5.com/amp/article/news/investigations/mary-bridge-elizabeth-woods-child-abuse-pediatrics/281-d4fc8654-1acb-4906-b900-2034190ef2a9This is a complicated set of cases definitely worth discussion. #RealCrimeProfile #ExpertAnalysis #BehavioralAnalysis #FBI #NewScotlandYard #Podcast #MayaKowalski #BeateKowalski #JackKowalski #KyleKowalski #FalseAccusations #MunchausenbyProxy #FactitiousDisorder #FabricatedIllness #InducedIllness #MedicalChildAbuse #ComplexRegionalPainSyndrome #CRPS #RareIllness #ThePainIsRealYou can find Andrea's "Nobody Should Believe Me" podcast her: https://pod.link/1615637188Andrea's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/andreadunlop/And Andrea's Munchausen Support group which is the 501 c 3 and has a ton of resources from the APSAC committee: https://www.munchausensupport.com/ Follow us and continue the conversationOn Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/realcrimeprofile/?hl=enOn Twitterhttps://twitter.com/realcrimeprofilOn Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/realcrimeprofile/>>>>>>>>> SUPPORT OUR OTHER SHOWS

Sarah Stevens is a former healthcare executive turned writer, speaker, and entrepreneur. After leaving her career in corporate healthcare in 2016, she founded The Beautifull Project - a storytelling collective that has reached tens of thousands of women across the globe with its powerful message about learning to take up space. Today, Sarah helps other people tell their stories through Branded, by Sarah Stevens, a small business offering a full suite of marketing services. She also serves as the Community Impact Officer at The Project of The Quad Cities, a nonprofit that serves people living with HIV and the LGBTQ+ community. Sarah is a gifted storyteller with a skill for using her own story as a woman navigating the world in a fat body to invite her audience to encounter the parts of themselves they hide away from the world, the parts they believe to be “too much.” Addressing everything from “too-big” bodies to a fear of failure that cripples confidence, Sarah amplifies a message that moves beyond a body-positive sentiment and creates a movement that makes room for everybody to tell their truth and take up space. She draws out confidence and courage. She believes in being free and full. And she will make a believer out of you, too. This is Sarah's third time on the show. I invited her back after finding myself in a parenting conversation around body image that I was worried I totally screwed up. I reached out to Sarah and asked if she would be interested in hashing this topic out on the show and she immediately said yes. This is a really important conversation, as the pervasiveness of diet culture continues to be so insidious, oppressive, and ultimately deadly, in our culture.  Listen in to hear Sarah and I discuss: How my child casually throwing around words like “fat” and “chubby” threw me into a parenting tailspin How to check your own body image trauma when talking to your kids The importance of entering conversations with curiosity & compassion (vs lecturing and shaming) The truth about the insidiousness of current diet culture in spite of the fact that so many of us think we know better than to fall victim to it How to talk to your kids about fat without causing them to have an anti-fat bias (or “fatphobia”) The systemic oppression that is very present and real for people living in fat bodies How pushing kids to “make healthy choices” can be rooted in diet culture if we aren't careful The importance of teaching kids to learn to trust their bodies - and how difficult this is if you don't trust your own Links mentioned: Join me for my 2023 Plan & Prep Pajama Party and save $50 with Early Bird Registration: shamelessmom.com/pajamaparty Connect with Sarah: thebeautifullproject.com Past SMA Interview with Sarah - Episode 571: How to Take Up Space and Love Yourself in the Process Past SMA Interview with Sarah - Episode 366: The Beautifull Project: The Truth About Fatness and Thin Allies Sarah on Facebook Sarah on Instagram: @thebeautifullproject and @seeing_sarah  Sarah's TED Talk: Stripped: The Art of Being Seen Sarah's Podcast: Beauti: The Interviews Sponsor info and promo codes: Please find our sponsor information here: shamelessmom.com/sponsor/ Interested in becoming a sponsor of the Shameless Mom Academy? Gov. Roy Cooper and other advocates of Medicaid expansion in North Carolina argue consistently that expansion would not cost any state taxpayer dollars. A new analysis from the John Locke Foundation and the Ohio-based Buckeye Institute call that claim into question. A model based on enrollment estimates and Medicaid costs in expansion states suggests N.C. budget writers would face a gap of $119 million to $171 million to cover new Medicaid costs. Jordan Roberts, John Locke Foundation health care policy analyst, highlights key points from the new Medicaid expansion analysis. A Superior Court judge recently struck down Wilmington’s restrictions on vacation rental property. The court decision represents a victory for plaintiffs David and Peggy Schroeder. But it leaves unresolved constitutional claims raised by the Schroeders’ attorneys from the Institute for Justice. Before the ruling, IJ constitutional law fellow Adam Griffin explained why the group had taken the Schroeders’ case. U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., raised recent questions on Capitol Hill about the controversial investigation into Russian influence on the 2016 election. You’ll hear highlights from Tillis’ queries of former U.S. Justice Department official Sally Yates. A nurses union won a recent victory at Mission Health hospital in Asheville. The contest prompted a recent John Locke Foundation online forum about union activity in North Carolina. Among the speakers raising concerns about unions were state Rep. Sarah Stevens, R-Surry, Ray Starling of the NC Chamber, and nurse TiAngela Austin. North Carolina will make history in November when voters select the state’s first black lieutenant governor. Both Democratic nominee Yvonne Lewis Holley and Republican Mark Robinson are African-American. But they approach that fact in different ways. Rick Henderson, Carolina Journal editor-in-chief, highlights key differences driving the lieutenant governor’s campaign.

In this fiery episode I sit down with speaker, activist, writer and leading voice in the chorus of courage Sarah Stevens to discuss a hot topic...Spiritual Bypassing. No, it isn't a term made up by Instagram users; it was coined by John Welwood in the 1980's in regard to behaviors he witnessed himself and others doing in the Buddhist Community as a way of side-stepping the hard work on the spiritual path. Currently, in the yoga & wellness world we are watching this same thing happen and it is harmful. Yogis/teachers who are uncomfortable with the BLM movement are posting things like, "We Are One" which is really another way of saying 'all lives matter' right now. In this talk with Sarah we identify the different ways this is happening, how systematic and normalized racism is, and how we as white allies have to sit with and work through the uncomfortable realizations without diminishing the pain and oppression of the black communities. After leaving a career in corporate healthcare in 2016, Sarah set out to find work that better aligned with her passion and purpose. As co-owner of Black Pearl Coaching and Consulting, she served as a consultant to small businesses and nonprofits. Through this work, she accepted a position as the inaugural Executive Director with Lead(h)er, a nonprofit that connects women with mentors to fuel career and community engagement - a position she still holds to this day. In 2018, Sarah launched The Beautifull Project, an entrepreneurial effort that combined her past professional experience with her commitment to pursuing purposeful work. Using the power of collective storytelling, The Project invites women back to their bodies, encouraging, and supporting them as they learn to use their voice and take up space. When Sarah is not thinking up big ideas for The Project, she is shamelessly momming 3 teens, writing, reading, teaching yoga, and leaning as far as possible into an honest, authentic life. Listen in to hear Sarah share: Her experience growing up in a body she deemed to be “too big and too much” Her history of body image battles and disordered eating How her Beautifull Project was born out of the moment her doctor prescribed her speed and a 600 calorie a day diet for weight loss Why “being concerned” for a fat person’s health is a discriminatory crutch How she’s embracing living in a fat body How to talk to your kids about fatness and fat as a neutral descriptor Why thin people must be allies for fat people if we want to create space for all women to live safely in their bodies and in their power Links mentioned: Connect with Sarah Facebook: The Beautifull Project Instagram: @thebeautifullproject and @seeing_sarah The TED talk Podcast: Beauti: The Interviews Thank you to our sponsors: Embr: Go to Embr and Save $50 with code SHAMELESS at checkout. Sarah Stevens moved to Delaware, Ohio while expecting her first baby. What she didn't expect was that she would have complications with her pregnancy and become a stay at home mom caring for an infant with special needs while living off of one salary in her new community. Desperately needing to find a place to belong, she was encouraged to try out the Y. She hesitantly gave the Y a try, quickly realizing why the YMCA is so much more than a gym.

Basically, your project should tie in with a play or musical (on Broadway, or a little further from the Great White Way, the decision is yours). How you tie in your project with the theme is up to you, make it work! Have fun! Is the yarn or pattern actually named after a Broadway show or character or even a song from a show? Does the project remind you of a costume from a show? Is the yarn bright green, so it reminds you of Elphaba’s skin in Wicked? You get the point! Here is a great website where you can see Broadway shows listed by the year that they opened. You never know what might inspire you! There is a featured bundle in this group where any group member is free to add patterns you find that might work. This thread is for discussion and planning. Feel free to chat, encourage, make suggestions, etc. Closer to the cast-on date, a thread will be opened for finished objects. We will keep this KAL to one post per person in the FO thread, that way everyone is kind of on even ground. You may complete as many projects as you like, but you will put all of your FOs in one post in that thread. So far there are no sponsors or prizes, but we’ll find something! If you would like to donate a prize, please PM me, Michelle, actuallyknitting. Yay! Bravo! Break a leg!    There is a chatter thread open on the Actually Knitting Podcast group on Ravelry.
