Segment 1: Expansion Draft & Isimat-Mirin Rumor Segment 2: (20:57) Corrupt FIFA & World Cup Roster When looking at this upcoming World Cup abstractly, the possibilities seemed endless. The talent pool is massive, young, and hungry. But now that Gregg Berhalter has announced the 26-man USMNT World Cup Roster, it's a reality check. This is it. These are the guys who are tasked with leading us into the desert to find glory. Speaking of the desert, this is your regularly schedule reminder: FIFA is corrupt, Qatar shouldn't be hosting, and the world should dissent against all of this. FIFA is so blatant about their corruption, it seems there is no stopping it. All we can do is find our own ways to push back individually. Any time the World Cup is discussed here at The Blue Testament, you will be thoroughly reminded of the ugly side of our sport. Anyway, there's no point in complaining about the roster decisions (though we do plenty of that). Jordan Pefok is a notable absence, but Ricardo Pepi's omission is particularly interesting after convincing him to choose US over Mexico. Is he the future of the striker position for the US? St. Louis City SC Expansion Draft is done and no Sporting KC players were taken. But they did get a player with KC roots. Our show is split between STL and KC natives, but this new team is already annoying everyone. There's an article from 90Min about Nicolas Isimat-Mirin and interest from ‘leading' MLS clubs. But we're suspicious for several reasons. If there's any truth to the article, it would indicate SKC is looking to turn down the option for the 30-year-old centerback, but sign him for less money. Jason and Jared catch up after Gregg Berhalter announced his 26 man roster for the September camp... and then updated it even further due to injuries. The biggest surprise was at striker with Ricardo Pepi getting the call and Jordan Pefok being left at the top of the table in Germany. Plus, with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Chris Richards dropping out of camp with injuries - Mark McKenzie and Erik Palmer-Brown get the call up. The guys debate why they got the call over an in-form Tim Ream. Finally, Jared introduces a new game to the crew "Cap or Crap" to close out the show. Thanks to everyone who called in! It was a frigid window with matches in Columbus, OH, Hamilton, ON & St. Paul, MN - with the latter reportedly leaving some Hondurans with hypothermia. Even USMNT players came out against the choice to host matches in such harsh conditions. Is this the last time we will see US Soccer choose frigid venues for WCQ? With only 3 matches to go in WCQ in March, do we go for glory at the Azteca against Mexico or play for the draw? Ricardo Pepi and Gyasi Zardes left much to be desired this window while Jordan Pefok continues to roll in Switzerland - is it time to call the in-form striker into the next camp? Finally Jared plays a game of “Of Death & Debutants” with the whole crew. With MLS on break and some recent moves for USMNT regulars, it's anyone's guess who and how many players get called in. Is Gio Reyna finally set to make his return? Finally, is Jordan Pefok finally going to get the call in or will Dike make the trip back to the US after just moving to West Brom? The USMNT roster is here for World Cup qualifying, and it's time to react to it on Episode 62. The roster was released this morning, and we go through it to highlight who Gregg Berhalter called in and who was not included. There were several players who were included on this roster that did not make it in the September window: Paul Arriola, Tim Weah, Gyasi Zardes, Luca de la Torre, Matthew Hoppe, Shaq Moore, Yunus Musah, Chris Richards, and Gianluca Busio. While Gio Reyna and Christian Pulisic were not included due to injury, Jordan Pefok, Josh Sargent, Ethan Horvath, and Konrad de la Fuente were also left off the roster. There are also others who were not on either roster that fans may think should have been brought into camp. We discuss it all briefly on this episode. We close out this episode with a personal tribute to Martin Huschka, an inspirational young boy in the American soccer family who passed away late last week due to complications from a neurodegenerative disorder that was so rare, there have been only 14 cases worldwide. I tell the story of Martin's journey, what he meant to me and why he is the strongest boy that I've ever met. Martin is going to be missed by so many, but the joy that he shared is something that will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to meet him or be inspired through his story. If you are so inclined to also pay tribute to Martin's memory, his family requests that you make a donation to Gilda's Club of Metro Detroit, Angela Hospice, or Rainbow Connection. We also look at questions from fans about Jordan Pefok, potential travel restrictions for Christian Pulisic, and whether a national team could beat a domestic team in #AskAlexi (1:16:10). The 2021/22 Champions League group stage started out with a bang! Luis Miguel Echegaray, Jimmy Conrad and James Benge react to a thrilling opening night of action that saw Cristiano Ronaldo's record-equalling appearance get overshadowed by US international Jordan Pefok, Sevilla earn a point despite conceding three penalties, and Bayern Munich continue their tradition of owning the Camp Nou. The panel also mulls over what having more USMNT players in Europe's most prestigious club competition might mean for the likes of Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic, and asks who, if not Ronald Koeman, is the right manager to save Barcelona from itself.
