Penn State wrestling continues to be in the news as June rolls along. The Blue-White Illustrated show and podcast dedicated solely to head coach Cael Sanderson's team is back with a fresh episode to get you another week closer to the start of the college season. Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel start this week's rundown with transfer portal news. Former Nittany Lion Terrell Barraclough was the only member of the program to look for another home following the 2023-2024 season. He's found it. The graduate senior with one year of eligibility remaining will finish his career at Utah Valley. It is about an hour from his hometown in Kaysville, Utah. Barraclough will man the 165-pound spot for the Big 12 program. In the Big Ten, he wrestled all throughout the middle weights and even saw time at 174 pounds during the 2023-2024 season. He was 2-1 in dual meets and 12-2 overall. His career record at Penn State is 42-19. Carr and Pickel dive into why Utah Valley is the right fit for Barraclough. From there, the duo looks back at the U20 Nationals and U.S. U23 Team Trails. Five future Nittany Lions earned spots on the U20 team, as Second-year PSU wrestler Josh Barr (86 kilograms), Class of 2024 signees Luke Lilledahl (57 kilograms), Zack Ryder (79 kilograms), and Connor Mirasola (92 kilograms), and Class of 2025 commit PJ Duke (70 kilograms) will all represent their country at the U20 World Championships in Spain this September. The Lions do not have a U23 Team member at the moment. From there, the conversation turns to the outlook for Penn State wrestling at 133 pounds in 2024-2025. Will second-year Nittany Lion Aaron Nagao man the starting spot again? He suffered an undisclosed injury at the U23 Team Trials. It is unclear how that will impact his prep for the fall. But either way, second-year Penn State wrestler Braeden Davis looks to be on a path to bumping up to 133 pounds. Whether he redshirts this year to compete for the job next year or competes with Nagao for it this year remains to be seen. The pair close the show by discussing all of the factors that will go into that decision. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Penn State wrestler Terrell Barraclough has entered the NCAA transfer portal, a source confirmed to Blue-White Illustrated. The Wrestling Room founder Pat Mineo first reported the news. Barraclough, who is from Kaysville, Utah, is in as a graduate transfer. He has one season of eligibility remaining. Barraclough's decision to move on is not a shock. He has been a tremendous teammate while operating mostly in a backup capacity during his time in blue and white. He was 12-2 in 2023-2024 but competed in just three dual meets, where he was 2-1. Kaysville's native Nancy Espinosa addressed the national committee on Veteran's affairs today... with some recommendations on how to improve healthcare for veteran women.
Although Utah has a rich heritage of women's involvement in voting, advocacy, and various types of political participation, for decades Utah has lagged the nation in terms of women running for and serving in elected political roles. The Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) began reporting on the status of women in Utah politics in 2014, with updates in 2017, 2021, 2022, 2023, and now 2024. Although strides have been made to increase the number of women serving in political roles in the last decade, there is still work to do. This episode will focus on the status of women in Utah politics in 2024.Dr. Susan Madsen, Founding Director of the UWLP, is joined by two guests: First, Tami Tran, Mayor of Kaysville. Her political career started by serving on the Planning Commission because of her interest in development lending. She has served on the Kaysville City Council, and in 2021 was elected as Mayor. Second, Morgan Lyon Cotti, the Associate Director of The Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah. Her interest in politics began when she was 16 and served as a Page in the U.S. Senate.Support the show
"The Hopebox Theatre is built on the power of the performing arts to help people heal. As a four time cancer survivor, our founder Jan Williams has known first hand the struggle and strain that cancer puts on an individual, their family, and their community. It was during her third battle with cancer during an especially difficult treatment that the vision of the Hopebox came to be. A group of her theater students had come to her doorstep one evening to sing some of her favorite broadway show tunes and provide love, support and the hope that Jan would have a better tomorrow. This event changed her life forever! It brought her hope... so much hope that suddenly she didn't feel sick or even tired. In fact, that night she couldn't sleep because she was so overwhelmed with the love and hope that she felt! As a result, Jan was inspired to start the Hopebox Theatre. She wanted to be able to give back to those who were also struggling with cancer by paying it forward. Jan felt like that experience at her doorstep brought her new life, renewed joy and especially a bright hope for her future! So even though she didn't know whether or not she was going to beat her cancer, she went out with her beautiful bald head and found an amazing partner Curtis Dalton, who also believed in her intended mission. “To Bring Hope to Families Battling Cancer through the Performing Arts!” Curtis' family had also felt the effects of cancer when his mother passed away from cancer when he was nine years old. This theatre has been a perfect way for him to honor and cherish his mother. So with a lot of faith, Jan's experience with theatre and Curtis' background in construction, these new partners purchased a vacant church building in Kaysville that Jan had been keeping her eye on. They knew the moment they walked into the space that this is where the Hopebox should be! A couple months later, as renovations were underway for the new theatre, another friend, Derek Raynor came aboard as the third partner in this new adventure. Derek brought unique expertise and experience in theatrical technical design and together they started a not-for-profit organization called "The Hopebox Theatre of the Performing Arts!" It was a dream come true for all of them! In Jan's own words…. ”At times I've questioned why God has kept me alive. I'm so thankful to be able to see my vision realized by being able to soften the effects of cancer to an individual and their family! It is truly a dream come true! There is no place I'd rather be, than working at this theatre! We may be small, but our mission is great and we are making a positive impact... one life at a time! I feel so blessed to be helping families in our community find hope during one of the hardest times in their life!” Every person, every production, everything we do at the Hopebox Theatre is driven by our mission as we strive to bring hope and light into the lives of those who are battling dark times. We invite you to join us and be part of our Hopebox Family in whatever way you can. Whether that's on stage, as a part of a production team, behind the scenes, in the audience, or as a sponsor... we want to share our mission with you and those you love." https://www.hopeboxtheatre.com/home

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to a special edition of our podcast, where we delve into the life, family, career, and vision of a distinguished individual with a deep commitment to Utah values. Today, we bring you the story of a Utah native, a conservative leader, and a passionate advocate for the principles that define the "Utah Way." Our guest today is Brad Wilson, a true Utahn, born and raised in Kaysville. Graduating from Weber State, where he met our other guest today – his wife of nearly 30 years, Jeni Wilson. With a background that resonates with the values we hold dear, Brad Wilson emerged from a family of ten children, working hard from a young age as a grocery bagger and stocking shelves at local stores. Following college, he ventured into finance, taking the risk of starting and growing a home building business. Through ups and downs, he created jobs, supported families, and built the communities we call home – before accepting the call to public service. For the past 14 years, Brad has been a vocal advocate for Utah values as the Representative for District 15 – eventually becoming Speaker of the House. Fighting for smaller government, lower taxes, and the enforcement of law and order. Brad isn't just a passive observer of the political landscape but an active participant who never backs down from responsibility when the world around him needs someone who will rise to the occasion. Not happy with the direction that Washington DC is taking us, he seeks a seat in the US Senate, fueled by a desire to protect the values he holds dear. As Speaker of the Utah House, our guest boasts a record on taxes that sets him apart. Cutting income tax rates and doubling the dependent exemption for new parents, he has played a pivotal role in shaping Utah's economic policies, having cut taxes by over a billion dollars during his tenure. This seasoned leader's influence extends beyond legislative chambers. He has been actively involved in committees and boards, shaping policies that impact Utah's working families. Beyond his political roles, Brad maintains a deep connection to Utah, understanding the intricacies of its communities and the "Utah Way" that resonates with its residents. His journey is not just about the past; it's also a roadmap to the future. As he embarks on a campaign for the US Senate, our guest envisions a movement—a movement to change the kind of representation Utah has in the Senate, and change the direction of the country in the process. Brad Wilson has made significant contributions to our life here in Kaysville and is running for Senate to ensure a better future for all Utah residents. In this episode, we'll delve deeper into the specific policies, challenges, and triumphs that define Brad Wilson's journey and learn a little bit more about his family life and what that means to him.'
