Pat, my guest's mom, grew up in Washington state. Because her parents had divorced wen Pat was a little girl, Pat spent the school year with her mother on the coast of Washington and summers with her father in the eastern part of the state. Pat learned independence starting at the early age of five years old as her parents  put her on a train by herself, back and forth across the state.  This part of Shannon's journey begins with her mom's Sock Monkey and it's opened up a world of learning and inspiration. Incase you're not familiar with what a sock monkey is, it's a  toy for young and old.  Stuffed Sock Monkeys were very popular in the 1930 and 40's, especially during The Great Depression to help uplift the spirits of children and adults. After Shannon's mother died, she came across a Stuffed Sock Monkey in her mother's possessions. She took it home with her and it's created a life of its own, a significance that Shannon is still surprised by today. In regard to her mother Shannon says "she was a teacher by nature and a teacher by trade. In fact, Pat was a  6th grade teacher for a while in addition to a Special Education teacher. Everything was a teaching /learning experience."  Shannon, her twin sister, Cheryl, and their mother had a very close relationship. All three women have intuitive capabilities and Pat allowed Shannon to make her own mistakes.  Shannon  in her late 20's,  started to develop her own psychic abilities. And as a twin, Shannon and her sister Cheryl, have psychic abilities that they work on together from near and afar.   Shannon shares stories of all the music in their home growing up. "Mom, she was brilliant. She could play any instrument by ear you gave her. Her main instrument in our home was the piano." With an infectious laugh that Shannon most likely inherited from her mom,  my guest fills us in on how funny  her mother was. She just lit up the whole family with her witty sense of humor. Let's begin today's reading and prayer, right here on the Daily Radio Bible. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Fan into flame the gift of God. If you want to cook, you're going to need some fire. If you're going to eat, you're going to need some heat. Every day, you must fan into flame that gift, that fire, that God has ignited in your life. That's what Paul is telling Timothy here in 2 Timothy 1. He says, This is why I remind you—apparently he's told him this before—to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. The fire of God's abiding presence in us illuminates our path. It gives us power to live out our purpose. Paul tells Timothy: let it burn. Let it light the path. Fan that into flame. Do all that is necessary to tend that fire within you, then see what God will do. And the same is true for us. God has given us a gift—it's his abiding presence in us. There's a specific purpose that he has uniquely gifted each of us for. And it's the Spirit's fire that will illuminate that path for us and empower us to participate with God and to live out our purpose, even this very day. As you abide in him and walk with him and trust him, the fire of God's presence—his Spirit abiding in you—will show you what's required of you. Ask him to make you diligent, to tend to that fire of life, his life in you. May you fulfill all of his purposes for you. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Gracious and everlasting God, you have brought us through the shadow of night into the promise of a new day. You go before us with your mercy, sustain us by your grace and keep us from wandering paths of fear or pride. Let every word we speak and every step we take be formed by the goodness of Christ. O Lord, gather your people far and near. May every tribe and tongue come to know your peace. Let justice roll like a river and healing flow where there has been division. In college, Nathan Paine exhibited an unbridled free spirit—playing Hacky sack, riding a motorcycle, and letting his long hair flow like his multi-colored graduation robes. His love of languages and cultures—inspired by living in France in high school and taking language study in Brazil in undergraduate days—took him to Japan to teach English for a year. Daniel Barron lost his sister to inflammatory breast cancer in 2005. There was no history of breast cancer in their family. And Ana was too young to die, only 30 years old. She had two small children and had her entire life ahead of her. The symptoms were not the typical you associate with breast cancer. Initially, the symptoms were passed off as mastitis. Pat, my guest's mom, grew up in Washington state. Because her parents had divorced wen Pat was a little girl, Pat spent the school year with her mother on the coast of Washington and summers with her father in the eastern part of the state. Pat learned independence starting at the early age of five years old as her parents  put her on a train by herself, back and forth across the state.  This part of Shannon's journey begins with her mom's Sock Monkey and it's opened up a world of learning and inspiration.Incase you're not familiar with what a sock monkey is, it's a  toy for young and old.  Stuffed Sock Monkeys were very popular in the 1930 and 40's, especially during The Great Depression to help uplift the spirits of children and adults.After Shannon's mother died, she came across a Stuffed Sock Monkey in her mother's possessions. She took it home with her and it's created a life of its own, a significance that Shannon is still surprised by today.In regard to her mother Shannon says "she was a teacher by nature and a teacher by trade. In fact, Pat was a  6th grade teacher for a while in addition to a Special Education teacher. Everything was a teaching /learning experience."  Shannon, her twin sister, Cheryl, and their mother had a very close relationship. All three women have intuitive capabilities and Pat allowed Shannon to make her own mistakes.  Shannon  in her late 20's,  started to develop her own psychic abilities. And as a twin, Shannon and her sister Cheryl, have psychic abilities that they work on together from near and afar.  Shannon shares stories of all the music in their home growing up. "Mom, she was brilliant. She could play any instrument by ear you gave her. Her main instrument in our home was the piano."With an infectious laugh that Shannon most likely inherited from her mom,  my guest fills us in on how funny  her mother was. Kevin BeebeThe Rev. Kevin Beebe joined Spirit Alive! Church in Kenosha, WI as Pastor in September 2019. He arrived at Spirit Alive! after previously completing his internship at The Bridge in St. Charles, MO and finishing his Master of Divinity at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary of California Lutheran University. Prior to seminary, Kevin graduated from the University of Montana and served as a Young Adult in Global Mission of the ELCA, working in conjunction with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land as an English teacher in Ramallah, Palestine. He grew up in Pullman, WA, nestled between the wheat fields of the Palouse and the cultural center of Washington State University. Kevin and his wife, Kelsey, and their cat, Velcro, live in Kenosha.Pastor Kevin is driven by an understanding that God's Love is constantly breaking into our lives, pulling us into deeper relationship with the Divine and the rest of creation. Futrell, a 2011 Tillman Scholar, brings more than 15 years of cross-sector experience to the Pat Tillman Foundation. Upon graduating from Gonzaga University's ROTC program, Dan served five years as a Ranger-qualified Infantry Officer as a platoon leader, company commander, and aide-de-camp. His most notable deployment was for 15 months with 3-2 Stryker Brigade in 2006-07, where he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge.We will talk with Dan about his role as CEO of the Pat Tillman Foundation, about the mission  of and who benefits most from the foundation along with his vision of future growth of the foundation.
