Brews and Tiny Teeth, The Unfiltered Pediatric Dentistry Podcast
Ok the title is a bit of a click-bait, but I did have the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Staci Whitman on the podcast. Dr. Whitman is a practicing pediatric dentist in Portland, Oregon. She is a "functional" pediatric dentist who practices in a demographic that caters to more natural and holistic modalities. Her practice is heavy in dietary guidance, vitamin supplementation, ozone therapy, tie/lip tie release, myofunctional therapy, hard tissue lasers, and also traditional SSCs and general anesthesia. I wanted to have this conversation to widen my horizons and provide me with more context to educate and converse with my own patients who have concerns about fluoride, toxins, and materials. I was surprised to find that I agreed with the majority of points that Dr. Whitman discussed. You can tell that she's passionate about educating her patients, promoting a healthy diet, and focusing on prevention rather than picking up a handpiece to fix the world's problems. I think this will be a great episode for stimulating some critical thinking skills about the way we discuss treatment options with our crunchier families that we all know and love!
Barbara Quinn RSCJ is a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart, United States-Canada province, and a President Emeritus of the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality, or SSCS. Brews and Tiny Teeth, The Unfiltered Pediatric Dentistry Podcast
Recorded live from Bourbon and Baby Teeth 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky! Diane Krueger is the founder and CEO of NuSmile. She founded the company in 1991 after noticing a demand from pediatric dentists for more esthetic options for restoring primary teeth. We discuss how the company has exploded since that time, expanding their product lines to include zirconia crowns, SSCs, and MTA-based products. Diane talks about how NuSmile has evolved as a company, different types of techniques involved in the fabrication of crowns, and how the industry has changed over time. We do a cost-analysis of how using a more affordable SSC can translate into substantial material savings over the course of a pediatric dentist's typical year. We also talk about how NeoPutty is changing the way MTA is used, and its clinical applications. Diane was a great guest and I enjoyed learning more about what goes into creating their products. A clash between fishermen and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) lead to one dead and one injured after the SSCS ship collided with the fishermen's panga boat and split it in two. Reports of the incident differ on both sides. The fishermen alleged that the Sea Shepherd's ship targeted the panga with the intention of sinking it by collision. Sea Shepperd, and the Mexican Navy officials on board the ship, alledged that the fishermen were throwing homemade bombs, knives, hammers, and other objects at their ship to stop them from doing their work. Sea Shepherd is working with the Mexican government to retrieve illegal gill nets in the Sea of Cortez to prevent the incidental catch of Vaquitas while fishermen target the totoaba fish. Vaquitas are critically endangered marine mammals listed on the IUCN Red list and it is estimated that there are only 10 individuals left. The totoaba is also endangered as they have been targeted for their swim bladders in Asian countries as it is believed that it boosts fertility. Finally, your heroes get their ducks in a row to record another cereal based review podcast. The SSCS release schedule reduced in the future, but not forgotten. We cover a whole host of topics, current events and bad jokes like always. Nick does the wrestling thing while we uncover another tender nugget from Jacob's life. We need newer cereals folks, more episodes depend on it.
No cereal this month but we sit down to update the Symposium on what we have been up to. Jake goes to Kansas City, Nick meets a teenage hero and Scott stops by to help us celebrate his birthday.
This month, we decided use our cereal budget to go see if we could find some ghosts in an old elementary school in Farrar, Iowa. Our budget is rather large... so it was a lot of money for not really noticing any ghost activity. But as always, the stories that surround that cast of characters that accompanied us while we searched boiler rooms, principal's room and a gym will live forever in this episode. Please welcome Cam, Denver, and Scott to this month's field trip and see what Jake and myself think of all this paranormal malarky.
We lost April's show because of some issues in the Bondurant office but we have fired those interns, hired some new, cheaper interns and then gave them unlimited access to the world wide web. Things are running a lot smoother now. Bills are paid on time, we know what the weather is, we have the entire list of cereals compiled. Interns are really great. Since this is the second attempt for a show, we don't have a whole lot of information for you, just our love as you plow through this springtime episode.
St. Patrick's Day isn't really a thing for us but when they take that one day celebration and funnel it into a cereal, we need to take it as a serious shindig of Irish tradition and honor. We are all fans of French toast even though we can't figure out why the French are credited with it's creation. It's not like we call them Mexican tacos or American burgers or Chinese fortune cookies. This month is all about luck, dodging black cats, going around ladders, refusing to use mirrors and so much more. Enjoy this month as we talk about what our first CDs are, we go downtown to find out how people say words, road beers with Ray Ramano, thefts at the hotel, we briefly talk about the new 3DS and streaming dumb shows out of our basements, honeycomb stories of horror, no one got stung ever, pledge week figuring stuff out and my personal disclaimer that we all need to drink beers more often.
We had a longer conversation that Joe decided to cut up and share to the world. Jake and Nick are in the basement talking about fires, editing woes, Nick's an idea man, Jacob's an editor, Home Improvement talk, Richard Karn's Twitter feed, we meet women online, scopin' bros at the bar, it's "coup," we breakdown acronyms, we look at images on our phones, rape patrol, Wrestle Kingdom 9, the children are sleeping, Japanese voice time, we take some breaks, we have visitors and NEED COKES! This conversation took place before we even started the February episode and I hope everyone is entertained with how we bullshit before shows.
CONFESSIONS OF AN ECO-TERRORIST is the true, no holds barred story of 30 years of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) campaigns leading up to the hit show Whale Wars. It's a feature documentary that reveals the true odyssey of the most wanted environmentalist today, Captain Paul Watson. Filmmaker and longest-serving SSCS crew member Peter Jay Brown documented the mythic deeds of the organization while acting as the cinematographer, first mate, deckhand, quartermaster, Zodiac driver and officer/captain in Watson's absence starting in 1980. Peter Brown, a Sea Shepherd insider expertly exercises aikido with his camera by turning a negative accusation into a positive confession of influential activism. He gives us an intimate and honest look at what really goes on behind the scenes on some of the most infamous environmental campaigns ever.
Jake and Nick find some time in January to hide out in Nick's basement for a little one-on-one. Joe spent a little time to fix the audio recording (and man, was there a lot to do) and spent time in his new digs. Super bowl of cereal, we talk about the newest flavored Chex cereal and keep things moving forward with tons of topics to catch up on. Jokes. ... I don't know, I hate Patriots fans so I am not having the "best" day so far but whatever man.
Welcome to 2015 and I hope that all the engineers in the food lab spend a little more time increasing the quality of the new cereals coming out this coming year. Last year was a bummer, we didn't get to record a cereal of the year because there was no contender for even the top three cereals of 2013. Looking forward to what shows up this year, especially whomever gets the Star Wars cereal license, that will be intense. In this episode, you get Jake, Scott from Cold Sweats and Nick Rempe fresh off one of their recordings of the SSCS/CS crossover Christmas episode. We discuss Canadian geese and car repair so we are starting off 2015 with a really big bang. Thanks for all your time and attention in 2014 and I hope we can keep entertaining you in 2015.
Hey! If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where's the Tylenol?
Your favorite monthly cereal enthusiast podcast with the review of Kellogg's Rice Krispies Multi-Grain Shapes and Multigrain Cheerios Dark Chocolate Crunch. We will debate which company knows how to put the words "multi" and "grain" together in the most grammatically correct way possible.
This week, I (Nick Rempe) am doing the show completely solo and it show-los. But I treat the environment of the show like how I like my environment when I am eating donuts... completely alone. Well, let us figure this out together.
This week, join the swashbucklers as they check out the cereal that is responsible for your kids cursing with dolphin sounds and whistling with their nose. We discuss fairs, Russians and how you can get your toes wet in the wild world of wrestling. Let’s keep this ship afloat with another excellent episode of high fructose infused grains and oats.
We take a break while on vacation to catch-up with our favorite cast members. Jacob bought stuff, Nick moved stuff and the Tyler messed up the audio so it is a little rough.Hopefully we will be on track after this week.
We can't get it together this week so we talk about how things have been going. Joe was late, Jacob likes Caramellos and Nick gives his Extreme Rules predictions.
Much like the description of this week's cereal, we are crispy graham flavored outside, smooth chocolate and marshmallowy filling inside. Might as well put that on our grave when we go to the Podcast Cemetery. We also announce my new show "Podcast Cemetery."
We are back in Newton and chomping down on some horse food for Wrestlemania 30. Jacob sells more road technology, Joe makes jokes in the corner and Nick forgets what the topic is.
We take some time out of our busy schedule to remember a simpler time. A time when you could get some excitement out of raisins. Jacob, Joe and Nick explain why grapes get a bad rap and why raisins are the elderly of the grape family.
Hey man, I hear you like the rock? You're in luck today, my friend. We have Poppin' Pebbles and the apostrophe is intentional. Let's begin.
Here are the Symposium, we finally have found something that is starting to contend with our top spot. There is chocolate involved, we like it a little bit, but then we realize the powerful temptation of pizza and it's ability to ruin our comedy, our art. What we produced is something magical. We have something to refrigerate this bitch, you are a lot of help this episode, so basically meatloaf, I want Her to win, you want to do directing?, the python is opportunistic, and good morning it's January DATE?
We all avoid the flu from patient zero by recording from the comfort of our houses. We apologize for not being available for a true episode but there is nothing we could do to make it a reality. We will be getting together soon for another wonderful episode. For now, enjoy us talking about some really off the cuff topics as we fire a bow into this week. Bullseye.
Jana of the Jungle hosts Captain Paul Watson and Bill Schoeningh. Topics: Captain Watson gives updates on the latest Sea Shepherd news, Bill Schoeningh and Captain Watson talk about Sea Shepherd's late breaking news regarding SSCS presence in Guatemala and SSCS movement's growth in Guatemala and Central America.
We welcome you back to the deep south with a look into our new snake-filled studio. The snakes are not there to kill us but to power us through our next adventure into corn, wheat and sugar-based foods.
We start the show trying our best to explain a new spin on eating cereals. Basically, when we do a "versus" episode, we take the name brand cereal and have it challenge it's generic brand counterpart. Since we live in the middle West, we have an abundance of Malt-O-Meal brand cereals and compare the name brand to it. We might move to other generic brands but I am assuming that most people in America have access to Malt-O-Meal cereals. We have that is what he says, we create the greatest phrase ever uttered on this podcast machine, they are the shapes of fish, bells, some of you may know that Jacob is back in school, "Isn't that scary?" "Yeah", how old is your daughter now?, we open a horse, people burp into the mics and it is rude, we remember sledding, all I need is to unbutton these pants.
Welcome to the surprise episode of the Super Serious Cereal Symposium. Have a happy New Year and we can't wait to find out what great cereal will be on the horizon for 2014. Just a reminder, we will be adding this to the new board for 2014 and we will compare all new cereals as we add them to the board.Big thanks to Nicole Rempe for helping us sort through the top cereals so that we could crown a winner.
This week, we are trying a super bland cereal which bleeds into the shows comedy. That is a nice way to say, hey, it's not a good episode. There are things in it and here is a list of those things that I write in this space like are they lesbians still?, everybody's is a dick, Pope is like "let's go out and feed the homeless," we are not part of the show or team, "... and there is police dogs," I've spent 1,546 hours playing my games, I've read that book, 'cause that is what you guys do, the glass isn't on the floor, this one is called the ****ty submarine, and there is a bunch of mumbling that I can't make out. We'll see you next time.
Jana of the Jungle hosts Captain Paul Watson who speaks about the current campaign in the Antarctica to save whales, founding of Sea Shepherd an anti-poaching organization, SSCS campaigns around the world, and Captain's current situation with the Costa Rican government.
We missed Christmas and we can't take it back so we decided to just keep the Christmas vibes going into the new year. It's just a slow cereal season and we need to do our best to keep everyone happy. We ask, "Why do we open it?", we walk across the ceiling in one of Jacob's sex dungeon, that would have been a deal breaker, I would put it here, but that isn't my job, a building that looks like a barn, did you rap harder that night?, I need to throw water on this thing, and we have a pretty thriving Facebook page.
Jana of the Jungle hosts Scott West of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. West heads up SSCS investigations into international illegal activities that exploit marine species and habitats. West took an early retirement from the Environmental Protection Agency in 2008 where he served as the Special Agent-in-Charge of the EPA Criminal Investigation Division Area Offices in Washington, DC and San Francisco among other positions in his career. Listen to this riveting interview into West's Direct Action conservation tactics used by SSCS in protecting marine life amd habitat worldwide.
The transcription factor SOX2 (3q26.3-q27) is an embryonic stem cell factor contributing to the induction of pluripotency in terminally differentiated somatic cells. Recently, amplification of the SOX2 gene locus has been described in squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of different organ sites. Aim of this study was to investigate amplification and expression status of SOX2 in sinonasal carcinomas and to correlate the results with clinico-pathological data. A total of 119 primary tumor samples from the sinonasal region were assessed by fluorescence in-situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry for SOX2 gene amplification and protein expression, respectively. Of these, 59 were SSCs, 18 sinonasal undifferentiated carcinomas (SNUC), 10 carcinomas associated with an inverted papilloma (INVC), 19 adenocarcinomas (AD) and 13 adenoid cystic carcinomas (ACC). SOX2 amplifications were found in subsets of SCCs (37.5%), SNUCs (35.3%), INVCs (37.5%) and ADs (8.3%) but not in ACCs. SOX2 amplification resulted in increased protein expression. Patients with SOX2-amplified sinonasal carcinomas showed a significantly higher rate of tumor recurrences than SOX2 non-amplified tumors. This is the first study assessing SOX2 amplification and expression in a large cohort of sinonasal carcinomas. As opposed to AD and ACC, SOX2 amplifications were detected in more than 1/3 of all SCCs, SNUCs and INVCs. We therefore suggest that SNUCs are molecularly closely related to SCCs and INVCs and that these entities represent a subgroup of sinonasal carcinomas relying on SOX2 acquisition during oncogenesis. SOX2 amplification appears to identify sinonasal carcinomas that are more likely to relapse after primary therapy, suggesting that these patients might benefit from a more aggressive therapy regime.

It's time for OLL Knights to be unleashed on a waiting world. First off we'll start with a warning - this podcast contains lots of Parko. As well as Parko, we have some SSCs* in the form of Dave and Nicky from Nintendisco and Mark Walton from Gamespot. We decided that we needed to choose which of the three teams were the best so we pitted them in a ingenious gaming quiz. Who will win? You decide. Oh no, wait. We've already decided. All we know is that when Simon's top comes off, we're all losers. Cheerio! Team OLL x * Super Special Contestants
