'Weet jij waar mama is?' #waargebeurd #nederlandsepodcast #waargebeurde #Nederlands #lizluyben

SummaryQuite a few smaller size social sector organizations assume that program evaluation is too complex or demanding an undertaking for them. Is that the case, though? If we want to introduce program evaluation to staff, leadership, and boards who have not yet been inducted into the importance of program evaluation: what are the most effective questions to generate genuine interest in and motivation to engage in such program evaluation? How can we build a more evaluation-friendly culture all around?Chari Smith, President and Founder of the consulting company Evaluation into Action has written a book that gives clear answers to these questions: Nonprofit Program Evaluation Made Simple (2021). She explains her core argument in this podcast episode. Chari's Bio:Program Evaluation enthusiast: Author, Speaker, Consultant, and TrainerPresident/Founder of Evaluation into Action, a consulting companyProgram Evaluation Associate at Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory We discuss: Chari's book is meant for small to midsize nonprofits who have not yet taken up program evaluation, to make it achievable to them. The book is also meant for entry-stage evaluatorsChari values Beth Kanter's and Aliza Sherman's definition of organizational culture  – “Organizational culture is a complex tapestry made up of attitudes, values, behaviors, and artifacts of the people who work for your nonprofit.”If you apply a collaborative, inclusive, participatory, and non-siloed approach to introducing program evaluation, your chances of increasing buy-in grow considerablyOnly collect data that you will actually analyze and synthesize into actionable data and that is likely to influence decision-makingA program evaluation-friendly culture cannot be ‘mandated', on the one handOn the other hand, the role of culture ambassadors – people who already are in favor of program evaluation – is important in instilling an evaluation-friendly cultureWhat's also important is the role of organizational ‘heroes', and the use of stories, images, and narratives, while organizational artifacts (tangible objects that can be seen around the organization) can be used to signal a desired culture. Quote: “By gathering data, nonprofits can pivot from a reactive stance to a proactive one, by acting on the data gathered” Resources:Chari's LinkedIn ProfileWebsite of ‘Evaluation into Action'Book ‘Nonprofit Program Evaluation Made Simple'

As I mention in the show, it is easy to get sucker-fied when it comes to purchasing hemp seed oil or CBD oil. There is a lot of flim-flam operators in the marketplace. We have a vulnerability to want to find anything that can help us cope.    If you are seeking for alternatives for traditional opiate medication it seems like it is an option. But if you don't know the basics, you can lose time, money and an possible effective treatment source.   My intention is to find a way to get to the basic information needed to make an informed decision.   It is easy to find the junk and too dang hard to find viable, credible information.   Deep breath.    This is a small effort to find alternatives.  Alternative does not necessarily mean safer.    Again, start with identifying the basics     For those of us that had actual critical thinking classes this means:   What is it? What is it made of or how is it process? Who is doing what and why? Who is doing the opposite?  Why and what are the benefits and risk? What is in it for them? What is in it for you?   In this episode the actual uses of Hemp Seed Oil and CBD Oil. GUEST: Karen Green is executive director at Cat Adoption Team, the Pacific Northwest's largest nonprofit, feline-only animal shelter. Before that, she was senior director at the Alliance for Contraception in Cats & Dogs and assistant director of the No More Homeless Pets program at Best Friends Animal Society. MAIN QUESTION: How can animal organizations build a healthy workplace culture, which is so important in a competitive job market? TAKEAWAYS: Open two-way communication is key to having a strong, positive organizational structure. If there's a program or policy that isn't working, you need to know – so staff needs to have a way to share such information with people who can fix the problem. Ask for feedback and make it safe for people to give feedback by demonstrating your trustworthiness. Implement suggestions when they make sense.  If you don't plan to implement someone's ideas or suggestions, they are more likely to accept your decision if they feel that their concerns were heard. Repeat back what the person said to make sure you understood before explaining your own position. Create an environment where people can have a good work-life balance through reasonable expectations and work hours. When people are at work, they should be working and when off, they should be encouraged to care for the other parts of their lives.  Examine staffing levels and processes to support this. Gently encourage people who check in when off work by saying something like, “Aren't you supposed to be on vacation?”  Sometimes there will be times you just need to put in extra hours, perhaps for a budget deadline, a special event, or a large rescue situation. But make these the exception, not the rule, so that overwork does not create burnout.  Address conflicts and issues when they come up. Little problems become big problems over time. When Team Gennev went looking for the right face to put on our website, we had a good idea what we were looking for: a face that showed the strength, resilience, beauty, and energy of a woman in midlife and menopause. It can be hard to find images of mature women doing anything besides fanning themselves and looking annoyed. Happily, we finally found lots of incredible choices on the Ageist website: active women over 50 living their best lives, overcoming challenges, and full of the "zest" Margaret Mead was talking about. We went a little crazy with the credit card, purchasing the rights to use these wonderful images of real women.  As Ageist founder David Stewart said in his podcast with Gennev's Jill Angelo, we just don't see ourselves in the typical, commercial images of people our age. So when you come across a treasure trove of representative images, you take advantage. One of the images we loved was that of Aliza Sherman — we loved it so much, she graces Gennev's home page with her wide-open smile. You can just feel the hum of energy and life flowing through her.  Not long ago, @AlizaSherman tweeted, "Yes, that’s me. Apparently I’m the happy face of menopause." Team Gennev had been wanting to reach out and ask her to do a podcast; this was the nudge we needed. What follows is that conversation. Learn more about Gennev and how we help women thrive through menopause and beyond at Gennev.com.

This week, Popaganda’s HEAT season heads away from the fire—and marches directly toward the smoke. In this week’s episode, host Carmen Rios talks to a slew of “puffragettes” fighting to end the drug war, foster a more equitable cannabis industry and forge a feminist future in weed. 2019 has already heralded in a whole lot of victories in the fight for laws that decriminalize and legalize cannabis possession and distribution—and studies show that more women are lighting up than ever. When marijuana business boomed, the number of women in leadership positions in the industry fell, and the national patchwork of drug laws leaves people of color at risk for criminalization and incarceration every day. But women aren’t surrendering to the patriarchal and corporate forces threatening the future of cannabis. Instead, they’re organizing at the state and national level for comprehensive marijuana laws, building networks for women in the business of bud, and creating space for marginalized communities to reclaim and redefine weed culture. Carmen talks to policy experts, business leaders and community-focused stoners in this episode—digging into the importance of comprehensive drug laws with Karen O’Keefe from the Marijuana Policy Projects, talking shop with The Incubator founder Amy Margolis and Ellementa co-founder Aliza Sherman, envisioning queer cannabis culture with 420 Queer co-founder Irene Urias and appraising the landscape of the sector with Mary Janes: The Women of Weed filmmaker Windy Borman.  Carmen came to every interview with the same question: What does a feminist weed culture look like? She came away with the knowledge that there are a lot of moving parts — and a lot of work ahead — in the fight to create equity in cannabis. But she’s hopeful, like the women she talks to, that the future of weed is feminist — and that together, we can take down the capitalist stoner bros trying to convince us it never was.

If you missed Part 1 (Moms & Weed) and Part 2 (Women Running The Cannabis Industry) of my Women & Weed series, definitely check them out. In part 3, we get down to brass tacks. What's the difference between THC and CBD? How did William Randolph Hearst ruin the cannabis industry? What does it feel like to go from being a black market seller to one who is legit? Aliza Sherman has had many incarnations in her career. From pioneering the internet to pioneering legal cannabis, she's comfortable leading and supporting women. She's now co-founded Ellementa, a support system for women wanting to learn about and explore cannabis to improve their health. I attended an Ellementa gathering, and it was incredible to see such a group of very diverse women ready to support each other. Some were cannabis professionals who were happy to educate newbies. Some were women with long-term health concerns, looking for relief. It was a safe space for all. You'll hear my talk with Pam Chotiswadti, MPH. She served as the event's delightful host. She's also tackling cannabis from a public health standpoint which is revelatory. Please support Drug Policy Alliancewhich helps "reduce the role of criminalization in drug policy, so that people are no longer punished for what they put into their bodies, but only for crimes that hurt others." Burnout is often held up as a badge of pride in for-profit and non-profit businesses alike. We talk about the incredible hours, service above and beyond, the missed school plays and late nights, outrageously high goals achieved, but at what price? Not only for our personal lives, but for the businesses we work for. Over-worked teams make mistakes, healthcare costs rise, creativity takes a nose-dive. Nonprofits tend to be tightly staffed with everyone on the team working at full capacity to make a difference in the world, supporting causes they believe in. Thanks to Best Western in Kwanah, Texas for lending Michael their business center for a half an hour.Verizon DROID commercial launches focused on the flaws in the iPhone. For all of the things iPhone doesn't do, DROID does. The ad starts out like an Apple ad, but deteriorates in a scifi like coolness. Will it live up to Verizon's claims? We both like the approach, but you probably have to be a geek to get it. The "There's a map for that" ads are better. It's more about the network than the device in most cases. The worst part of the iPhone is AT&T in the US. Any network provider would have suffered the same network fate. Beware Verizon should you get the iPhone. DROID and Pre are similar in focusing on what the iPhone doesn't do, and should be focusing on what their benefits are. Where's the Pre now? How many Twitter apps? 30? Michael has half of them installed.Dave recounts his Blogworld Expo experience. It was a great event, they did a great job. It's about hanging in the hallways and after parties. Criticism 1: When going to a party, it shouldn't be in a club with the volume cranked to 12. It was impossible to communicate. Criticism 2: last year the closing speaker was Mark Cuban. He was witty, and was a take no prisoners kind of guy. This year it was Kevin Pollack. He was crude, and unexpected - video clips shown with 700 people, should have been more PG, not X. Leo Laporte was on Adam Carolla's podcast suggesting that "new media" is the media. Is Blogworld the mainstream now since "new media" is the media? Sharlene Lee said she was going to the Web 2.0 conference on Facebook. Aren't we on to the next thing? Move on, new media is the media. The 140 conference had a breathtaking list of speakers. CES will have an iPod and iPhone section. Over all it was like going to home coming. There were really cool people, most of which Dave knew, but he met plenty of new people. Business was being done, Dave has a few new opportunities because of it. He had fun hanging out with friends.State of the blogosphere from Technorati. The survey tries to get a sense of where new media and blogging are. Survey was comprised of 3000 bloggers and found that 10% were self employed 10% were corporate, and the majority were doing it to serve attract clients and share their expertise. 60% were 18 to 44, but what were the other 40%? AARP bracket maybe? They have an average of four blogs. Aliza Sherman was on Blipcasts and maintains six blogs. 73% agree that blogs are being taken more seriously, the inverse is also interesting. 60% agree that most people will get news from blogs in the next 5 years. Wordpress can have static pages and it turns a blog in to a website. The number one use of Twitter is to promote their blog or promote their business. Not present was giving to the community or creating a dialog. Top reasons: market business, share links, understand topics and interact with readers. We haven't seen the questions, but it's not about engagement, it's about promotion for the respondents. Depending on the surveyed it might make sense. What is a blog? Does Twitter count? Posterous? Can you clarify what a blog is? Dave suggests is a set of tools to accomplish goals, a content management system, presenting data in a temporal (typically newest to oldest).Balloon boy hoax. Silver balloon with a six year old inside? It felt like someone was gaming the system to Dave from the start. Michael tweeted that when the balloon lands it'd be promoting a balloon festival. It was a scary thought for a father of a 5yr old. It wasn't really possible, but logic was lost on the prospect. The father should be prosecuted legally. He was simply looking for publicity and will make money even if he's fined heavily. He caused $300k in expenses. He'll probably be on SNL, Letterman, and get a book deal. Mission accomplished and there's no way to take it back, unfortunately. It's been an interesting week. Focus on new media, old media is adapting nicely. They're coming around. It's only going to get better from here. CES has been more and more about new media and web based services. It's a wrap.
