Why are otherwise healthy lakes all over the world turning bright green? The Cawthron Institute's Dr Simon Stewart joins us to explain what could be behind this mystery.
As countries across the world set out plans to bring their emissions to net zero by 2050, financial institutions are increasingly setting their own carbon neutrality goals. Limiting global warming to 2°C by 2050 will require $3 trillion annually in investment, according to an estimate by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and banks will play an integral part in channeling that financing. To find out what banks are doing to get to their lending portfolios to net zero, we talk to Amit Puri, global head of environmental and social risk management at U.K.-based Standard Chartered, about the bank’s net zero ambitions. “We are really trying to figure out on a sector-by-sector basis, on a geography basis, where are we today, where is the baseline, and therefore what do we need to do to reduce emissions in line with the commitment that we have made?” Amit says. We also hear from executives at Natixis about a tool the French investment bank created to make its lending portfolio more sustainable. That approach “should help us to drive the entire portfolio of the bank toward a net zero balance sheet,” says Karen Degouve, head of sustainable business development at Natixis. Green is a beautiful color ! It shows health and growth in plants ! But in a different light it is associated with jealousy and envy. "Green with envy" as te saying goes. Jealousy says , " they have something that I want and I'm upset about it". Envy says, " I resent their success, abilities, position, honor, etc". Neither display the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Both are sinful. Neither give glory to God. Philippians 1:15 King James Version (KJV) 15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:

A recent study has revealed that the Arctic region is becoming greener at an alarming rate. The region is typically covered in ice, and its low temperature is generally not suitable for vegetation. However, because of global warming, the vast ice sheet covering the region is now slowly melting, allowing plants to grow. Dubbed as Arctic greening, the phenomenon is characterized by the growth of vegetation in plantless areas. It also involves further increase and growth of plants in areas where they were already present. Aside from the extent of Arctic greening, the phenomenon's causes were also discovered. The study's findings revealed that aside from the increase in land temperature, other causes include varying melting periods of snow and increased moisture in the soil. The team that conducted the study is composed of 40 scientists from North America and Europe. According to Dr. Jeffrey Kerby, one of the lead researchers, the team has used innovative ways of analyzing and processing various data ranging from recent images to the earliest collected ones. The researchers used the most up-to-date technology for drones, satellites, and planes to observe the phenomenon from space. Then, they compared data from their aerial devices with observations they gathered on the ground. According to one of the researchers, the study's findings are useful in identifying the factors that contribute to global warming and reducing their effects. In addition, an executive from one of the team's partner organizations said that these findings will also help people further understand the Arctic region.

Leading Statements and Questions. Speaking Practice. Creating Dialog with Leading Questions. Basic Grammar Review. Prepositions of Place, Movement and Time. English Grammar. Reported Speech. What’s New? The Antarctic is Turning Green Scientists say the frozen continent is likely to ‘alter rapidly under future warming, leading to major changes in the biology and landscape of this iconic region. The Antarctic is turning green with rising temperatures having a “dramatic effect” on the growth of moss in the frozen continent, scientists have discovered. Since 1950, temperatures in the Antarctic Peninsula have risen by about half a degree Celsius each decade. This is much faster than the global average. Growth rates of moss since 1950 have been running at four to five times the level before. This is according to a study by UK-based researchers who studied three sites across a 1,000km stretch of the peninsula. In addition to climate change, the extinction of animal species is prolific. Plastic waste, fossil fuel ash and radioactive particles from nuclear bomb tests will all leave a permanent record in the planet’s future rocks. “Between 1950 and 2000, temperatures increased by half a degree per decade on average,” said Dr Amesbury of Exeter University. “The reason we are so confident the moss is responding primarily to temperature, is because of the wide-scale response we see in our moss banks from three different sites that stretch 1,000km across the Antarctic Peninsula.” The researchers who reported the results of their study in an open-access paper in the journal “Cell Biology”, also looked into how sensitive the moss would be to further warming. “The results of that analysis lead us to believe there will be a future ‘greening’ of the Antarctic and a further increase in moss growth rates. “We are likely to see massive amounts of moss colonizing new areas of ice-free land created by the warmer climate. History Topic! Land Discovery of The Antarctic in 1675 Thank you Wiki. The first Antarctic land discovered was the island of South Georgia, visited by the English merchant Anthony de la Roché in 1675. Although myths and speculation about a Terra Australis (“Southern Land”) date back to antiquity, the first confirmed sighting of the continent of Antarctica is commonly accepted to have occurred in 1820 by a Russian expedition. The first human born in the Antarctic was Solveig Jacobsen. He was born on 8 October 1913 in South Georgia. “Indirect reported speech” is when we refer to a statement or fact from the past and go back one tense in our statement. So, if someone said “I am hungry” we would say “He said he was hungry”. Notice how the verb “To be” changed from “Am to Was”. In this example, we went back one tense to refer to what was said. Erin Schrode was an activist in the womb. By the age of 13 she had started a non-profit called Turning Green, a global student-led movement devoted to cultivating a healthy, just and thriving planet through education and advocacy around environmentally sustainable and socially responsible choices. She is young and passionate and hungry. And it’s not that she’s fearless but rather fear-with. She can face her fear and do it anyway. And at the age of 24, she surprised even herself when she decided to run for office, becoming the youngest person ever to have run for Congress. In this podcast, Erin talks to us about taking risks, doing the right thing and living a life of service.Follow ErinCheck out Run for SomethingIf this episode resonates for you, we’d love for you to take a screenshot and tag us on Instagram stories @ctznwell and @erinschrode and click below to tweet:What gets lost when we wait for the right time? @runforsomething's @erinschrode talks with @kkellyyoga about taking risks - because the stakes are too high not to make an impact: ctznwell.org/ctznpodcast #CTZN @ctznwellMore about this episode:In this podcast, we talked with Erin Schrode about what it takes to take risks and make leaps. And it reminded me of an article I read recently that said the problem for women is not winning - it’s deciding to run. When women run they are just as likely to get elected as men.But as Erin described her process of deciding, you could hear that narrative that women in particular embody - that we are never ready, never good enough, never smart enough or resourced enough to do anything much less run for office. I was inspired by Erin’s story of choosing to go all in, despite what was stacked against her.And she had me reflect on what gets lost when we wait for the right time? What’s at stake when we don’t go for it? When we live up to our potential? And her secret is this: before she decides to do anything big, she asks herself three questions:1-Where can I be most impactful?2-What am I most passionate about?3-What best sets me up for a lifetime of service? And she is proving that we can start before we’re ready. And often when we do, we surprise even ourselves around what we are capable of.Join CTZNWELL on PatreonFollow CTZNWELL on InstagramSign up for CTZNWELL’s weekly email WELLread and check out our free action guides at ctznwell.org.

Judi Shils has spent the last 15 years of her life spearheading grassroots community projects. While attending a Marin County Supervisors meeting in 2002, she listened to concerned citizens pose questions about the high cancer rates in their neighborhoods and express thoughts as to possible cause. The dearth of answers led Shils to form the Marin Cancer Project: Search for the Cause, and then the youth-driven movement for sustainable change, non-profit, Turning Green. In 2013 she created the first organic/non GMO-school lunch program called The Conscious Kitchen.
